• Participate in design and definition phase of projects.

Care2 Activist Support Associate

Job Description:
The Care2 Activist Support Associate is a member of the Campaign Team and supports Care2 contests and Care2 members who create petitions on ThePetitionSite.com. Tasks will vary depending on whether or not Care2 is running a contest at the time, but will include tracking, prioritizing and responding in a timely manner to help requests from Care2 members who create petitions and from Contest participants. The Associate will be one of the faces of Care2's PetitionSite, communicating with members through Care2's social network and via email. The Associate will manage the help documentation for Care2's PetitionSite and Contests, refining and updating as needed based on new features and user feedback.

The successful Activist Support Associate is a detail-oriented "people person" who thoroughly enjoys interacting with the public online and engaging constructively with Care2's members to answer their questions, solicit their feedback and champion their issues within Care2. The Associate is also a strong writer and communicator, is comfortable with Microsoft Excel and basic HTML, is savvy about social networking and enjoys supporting Care2's tools to promote progressive causes.

The Activist Support Associate reports to the Manager of Activist Marketing, and works primarily with the Campaign Team Marketing staff but also interacts with Care2's Customer Service Department. This position is a half-time contract position.

Responsibilities:

Direct Member Support

• Respond to all support requests for Care2 contests including but not limited to:
• User questions about official rules
• User requests for help in voting process
• User requests for assistance in promoting contests
• User complaints about organizations or individual voters in contests
• Respond to customer requests from petition authors for ThePetitionSite.com
• Other duties as assigned

Member Help Documentation

• Update Help / FAQs for ThePetitionSite and Care2 contests as new features launch
• Track user comments and questions to inform Help / FAQ updates and additions

Member Communication

• Work with Manager of Activism Marketing to draft and promote periodic user surveys to inform site documentation, new features and marketing campaigns.
• Develop relationships with PetitionSite super users through the Care2 network to help support the core PetitionSite community
• Assist Manager of Activism Marketing with monthly email newsletter to petition author community to market new features and promotions

Qualifications:

• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Proven organization skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong "listening" skills – ability to track and understand what users are saying about Care2's petition tools and contests in both formal help requests and in user forums.
• Knowledge of basic office programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of social networks including but not limited to Facebook and MySpace.
• Enthusiasm for Care2’s nonprofit issues and campaigns.
• Some basic HTML skills a plus.
• Work experience in customer service or online community management a plus.

Business Development Internship -- Washington, DC

Internship Description
This is a hands-on, interdisciplinary internship in a relaxed office environment that will give you a bird's eye view of the nonprofit sector and enable you to hone valuable online communications and marketing skills. Qualified undergraduate and graduate students will have an interest in online marketing and social networking, and a background in Journalism, International Relations, International Development, Communications, Marketing, Sales, Business, Sociology, Psychology, English or Web Design. It's also good if you are interested in social entrepreneurship and causes. To some extent, Care2 will tailor the internship according to the skills you present, and to your interests, while focusing on activities that will help Care2 advance its mission and business success.

Past internships have involved:

• Writing and Content Development: Interns were trained in Content Management Systems (CMS) to update the website. They also helped brainstorm new topic ideas for Care2's blog, Frogloop, that discusses online advocacy, member recruitment, and fundraising issues.
• Marketing and Communications: In order to create "viral" member growth, interns investigated ad placement opportunities, determined strategic search engine keywords, and created new e-cards and petitions. Interns also helped Care2 grow its nonprofit client base by assessing sponsorship and participation opportunities at nonprofit conferences and by conducting analysis to identify new nonprofit sectors that Care2 should explore.
• Competitive Analysis: Interns have profiled progressive blog sites and other online media outlets used by nonprofit groups for advocacy, list growth and fundraising.
• Research, etc.: Interns researched current events, wrote blog entries, interviewed nonprofit professionals and assisted in the creation of online surveys, podcasts, feature articles, MySpace type strategies and made recommendations to guide development of new "Web 2.0" services and identify process improvement opportunities.

The successful candidate will have several solid years of experience selling products or services to nonprofits, or in a related consulting field, and will have a wide network of industry contacts. Previous consulting, fundraising, or online experience is a plus. Previous experience developing cause marketing campaigns in which nonprofits and for-profits “team up” is also a plus. The position is based in downtown Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

• Identify new opportunities with nonprofit organizations and with agencies that serve them -- including direct mail, interactive marketing, consulting and P.R. firms
• Prospect and forge new relationships to boost the number of nonprofits that Care2 serves
• Develop customized proposals aimed at recruiting Care2 members to become email subscribers, members, donors and grassroots supporters of clients’ nonprofit organizations
