Online Organizing Strategist

Care2.com is recruiting an experienced grassroots and online organizer to help us turn our inspiring and raw member petitions into successful, full-scale progressive campaigns and media-worthy events.

The ideal candidate knows how to create real impact with decision makers, and is excited to mentor  citizen-activists to reach their full campaign potential. You will take a member-created online petition and help the member turn it into a well-planned and strategic campaign, complete with local impact, signature delivery, social media, email marketing, and earned media outreach. You are excited about working with real people to inspire them to make change, working alongside other strategists, social media experts, our PR firm and many of our inspiring and motivated 30 million members! You are very on top of the news, and able to react quickly to the changing progressive landscape.

You will:

  • Provide leadership on campaign strategy, such as which decisionmaker to target, how to deliver signatures, and what angle to take with the petition for best share-ability, win-ability and media potential.
  • Work with team members and member authors to win campaigns by coordinating signature deliveries, setting up media interviews, and coming up with attention-grabbing campaign tactics that will pressure decision makers. This also includes some customer service to make member authors feel empowered and provide them the help they need, whatever their comfort level with technology.
  • Strategize on creative campaign techniques such as social media campaigns and taglines, attention-grabbing signature delivery events, etc.
  • Work with two dynamic Care2 teams to research, write, edit, and target email promotions for member campaigns
  • Work with the team to attract members to create more petitions, and to bring new petition creators to Care2

You have:

  • At least 3 years experience in a campaigning or campaign strategy position – preferably with online and offline components
  • In-depth knowledge of governmental structure and decision makers
  • Experience with media campaigns and working with journalists
  • Basic HTML skills
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a knack for killer persuasive writing
  • Experience with social media campaigns
  • Mastery of internet advocacy trends and techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with many personality types
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and software
  • A dedication to Care2’s mission and a passion for working with others for impact on a variety of progressive issues.

Bonus Points for:

  • Graphic design skills for creating shareable social media graphics using Photoshop, GIMP or PicMonkey
  • Intermediate to advanced HTML skills

Responsibilities and Objectives:

- Independently monitoring news sources for progressive social change opportunities and pitching petition ideas for posting on the ThePetitionSite.com

- Researching issues to develop petitions with meaningful calls to action and strong theories of change.

- Writing concise and compelling petitions on local or global causes that you (and our 30 million progressive members) care about, including: animal welfare, protecting the environment and wildlife, international affairs, economic inequality, LGBTQI issues, women’s issues, human rights, corporate accountability, education, health, politics, and more.

- Light image editing for graphics used in your petitions

Requirements:

- Creativity, passion, tenacity, and a desire to make a difference.
- Ability to write awesome headlines and powerful stories about the issues you care about.
- Self-discipline and the ability to work independently.
- Photo editing and graphics skills are a plus.
- Advocacy, political affairs, digital marketing, or public relations education or experience are a plus.

Care2 PHP Software Engineer / DBA

Care2.com is seeking an exceptional high level PHP engineer to positively impact the world around us on daily basis.

The right candidate will have 7+ years of LAMP environment experience developing and maintaining complex websites and backend tools as well as a strong mid-level set of skills and expertise in MariaDB/mySQL administration. Our needs are primarily for a PHP developer who can provide us with about occasional DBA engagement as needed. The right candidate will have hands on experience as a key contributor to the growth and evolution of technologies and systems authored in PHP/mySQL. In addition to PHP and mySQL skills, experience with Redis and ElasticSearch will be key in our effort to build out a scalable infrastructure. We are not looking for somebody to maintain the status quo. We need your skills to help us reshape and improve our systems using industry best practices.

Engineering Responsibilities:

  • Develop PHP/MySQL code to meet the continued business needs of new site features and refinement of existing functionality.)
  • Define and contribute to the creation and maintenance of internal systems supporting the company’s various departments
  • Identifying and rectifying coding issues as bugs in new or existing tools surface.
  • Contribute to architecture direction and discussions, and assist in the progressive evolution of our existing code base.

DBA Responsibilities:

  • MariaDb/Mysql backup, restoration, and optimization
  • Database design, installation and maintenance of constraints
  • Administration of database objects including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages, etc.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of ongoing daily engineering experience working with PHP and MySQL.
  • 2+ years of mid-level experience administrating MariaDB or mySQL databases
  • Work experience developing software in a business environment, preferably with Linux/UNIX/Apache.
  • Database, application architecture and software systems design experience.
  • Comfortable functioning as an architect as well as contributing as an engineer.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, a firm grasp on algorithms, and able to find and implement simple, modular, scalable solutions.
  • Engineering experience managing WordPress as a CMS.

Data Analyst Intern

Care2 is recruiting an intern to work with our Data Analysis team to provide support to ad hoc projects and to help create and maintain data visualization tools. The ideal candidate Interns will learn valuable job skills and gain knowledge about working with Big Data and statistical modeling/methodology. We are looking for interns who can work with us starting in ASAP. Preference will be given to candidates who are available to work 40 hours a week (full-time).

Responsibilities include:

  • Help create and maintain reporting dashboards.
  • Write queries to pull relevant data needed for ad hoc analyses.
  • Superior analytical skills with unwavering attention to detail.
  • Strong decision-making, organizational, planning and problem-solving skills with proven ability to identify and prioritize critical issues.
