It's truly a "no-kill" shelter, and they go the extra mile for all of the animals who come to them!

The employees and volunteers are dedicated to caring for all their rescues and will provide extra care and love to those more in need. It's not a cookie-cutter operation. I've been a volunteer since July and am proud to be associated with this organization. I think it's run on a very tight budget so they can use all the $$ that comes their way! I adopted my sweet boy, Brian, from PAWS a month ago. He loves to visit his human friends at PAWS - proof to me of the wonderful care he received while living there for one month.

The staff and volunteers at PAWS are supremely dedicated to nurturing every animal that comes through its doors so that their time in the shelter is as happy and stress-free as possible and so that they are as eligible as possible for forever homes.

We have only had 2 dogs. We got both from this shelter. The first lab retriever mix lived 13 years and had to be put down due to arthritis in all joints. Their dogs are well kept, they are caring. The second dog we got was 2 years ago. We had a small dachsund at home that my daughter rescued from the Vet Hospital she worked at. We had to bring Heidi in to play with Turner- a german Shepard mix to see if they were compatible and they were. We were able to take Turner home and he is a very special loving dog.

As there continues to be no shortage of dogs and cats right here in the State of CT that need life-saving sheltering, PAWS remains true to it's mission, taking in local animals, many of whom would end up on the streets or put down in other shelters. The animals get 12 hours of care and love each day. 12 hours! And that's with a small staff and a huge team of volunteers. PAWS consistently accepts animals that might not meet admission criteria elsewhere, including senior animals, shy animals, and animals in need of medical care. PAWS is a no-kill shelter in the truest sense of the no-kill philosophy. (In loving memory of Sadie, Athina, Stevie Girl, Trixie, Fred, and Booberry, and all the others we've loved and lost.)

Animals ought to be respected by humans, both for our sake and for theirs. Mistreatment incites their pain, and indicates the unnecessary unsophisticated character of human society.
