My husband and I have known HART for a few years. But in that short amount of time, HART has helped us in a tremendous way. They offered to take in our dog Gunther when it came to the point where we could no longer afford to pay his soaring veterinary bills. After Gunther passed away, they were very supportive to me and my husband. We also got our Red Baron and Brandee from HART who provide us with such love and loyalty that is simply unquantifiable. We will always be grateful to HART and to their wonderful staff and volunteers.
HART is where I got my Peanut. He is a cute lovable little chihuahua/pug mix. If it not for HART I never would have found him. HART takes in animals that some other rescues would not. My Peanut was seen as aggressive by some. Chances are the poor thing would have been put down by others. HART took him in. I am grateful to HART for taking him in, thus allowing me to find him. Peanut is the best little dog a person could have!
Hart is very active. They take in animals that other rescue organizations would not. They are a homeless animal's best friend.
HART is an excellent resource in the Washington DC Metro area. They go above and beyond for every animal they care for. I have had a relationship with HART for 5 years, ever since they gave me, my great dog Onyx. Since then, they have helped me find a home for a cat in need and were wonderful caring people along the way! They get my vote for sure!
HART is very active, they go out of their way to show off the pets that need homes, they run a great web site, and they're super nice people. A very, very good organization.
HART is made up of caring, dedicated, very hard working people who save many dogs and cats who would not otherwise have a prayer of a chance.
I just think HART is great.
HART provides a great deal of attention to finding good homes for our cats and dogs, toward making sure the animals' forever homes will truly be forever. Too many people adopt from storefronts or shelters without a long-term plan; HART investigates adopters to make sure they've thought through whether they can care for the dog or cat for the rest of their lives. HART is always looking at the long-term, which puts the animals first!
HART is such a great team of dedicated volunteers and awesome management/organization! They make sure all their animals go to caring homes and are always on the lookout to resuce animals in need across the nation!! I love how they are a "no kill" shelter--they WILL find a loving home for the animals, no matter how much time or money it takes!
HART is such a great organization, I can't say enough! The folks who dedicate their time to our four legged friends are tremendous- they help to ensure animals are taken care of in with maintaining high standards and help to ensure all animals adopted go into a safe and loving environment. I love HART for all the wonderful love affair they have with the animals they rescue. They are the most loving and caring group of folks I know and work very hard to see that the animals get good, loving forever homes. HART is a small group with a small budget but with a VERY LARGE HEART!!!
HART is truly a wonderful organization - always stepping in to help an animal in need and helping to find them loving homes. They have done a lot to save many without much.
Many homeless animals saved each year because of the generous souls that comprise this organization.
As a previous rescue coordinator for a local shelter, I can't begin to count the times HART stepped up for the animal nobody else would take: the large black mixed breed, the sweet pit bull, the arthritic dog with cataracts, the injured animal in need of expensive medical intervention. What is even more incredible is that HART succeeds time and time again not only in reassuring each rescue animal that they are special and worthy of love, but also in finding great adoptive families who agree with them!
If there is an injured animal that no other group would help to save, you can bet that HART will be there. It is wonderful that they save healthy and not so healthy cats and dogs and find forever homes for them all.
HART not only helps their own rescues but they cross post for other shelters. This is how we found our beloved "Pinky". She was cross posted from the shelter "Homeward Trails" which is not as well known as HART. HART is all about helping any and all animals that need a good home. Their committment to making sure all the animals go to appropiate homes is unmatchable with any other organization I know of. My hat is off to HART and all the work they do for our furry friends!!
HART has always put the animals first. I started to foster dogs rescued by HART 7 years ago, adopting the first two (2) fosters I had as they were older dogs and weren't getting their "forever homes" very quickly - I can't imagine life without them. If it weren't for HART rescuing them, I'm sure they would not have gotten the love and attention they were so deserving of.
HART takes care of so many dogs and cats that would have nowhere else to go, and they do it in style and with great professionalism, all the while loving the animals. They are the best!
I am really impressed by the willingess of HART volunteers to bend over backwards in support of homeless animals, whenever the opportunity arises.
The genuine care and dedication of the HART volunteers caused me to volunteer too. The interview and home check process exceeds anything I have ever seen. HART saves lives and finds loving, lifetime homes for animals that would otherwise be euthanized.
HART saved my Happy's life! HART is supportive, generous, and truly cares for animals. Happy was on the table to be euthanized and someone from HART drove to Floyd County, VA to get her and bring her back to Fairfax. HART saved her life!
I have been in the vet field for a few years and have had the pleasure of working with many organizations. Of all the places, HART as some of the most dedicated volunteers and staff. They do some amazing work and have seen many of their rescues at our hospital.

We adopted our "Annie" Corgie/Shepard mix about 4 years ago. The organization was very thorough about checking us out and our home and yard before they let us adopt her. They really try to assure that the dog or cat will not be abused or abandoned again. We LOVE our Annie and we LOVE HART!!

I adopted two dogs from HART this past July 2009. Their foster mom, Kim, was wonderful and gave then the care and affectionthey needed after being abandoned. All the folks at HART are dedicated to giving dogs and cats in need a second chance. I'm glad they did or else I would never have met Wall-E and. Eve..they have stolen my heart.
I got my wonderful pup from HART 5 years ago. It's a great, caring team of folks who truly love every single one of these precious animals.

This is a great NO KILL shelter
HART goes above and beyond in not only rescuing the cute cuddly pets we all adore but restoring to health those pets that have been left for dead. They do a great job of connecting with the community and spreading the words of their work with everyone invovled.

My husband and I adopted Cindy and Willy, two Jack Russells from a puppy mill in West Virginia. Kim Novak with HART was their foster mother and helped us through the process of bringing them into our home. One day before we were to celebrate their one year "Adoption Day" 11/18/09 my husband died suddenly and Cindy, Willy and I were suddenly alone. Cindy and Will can't quite understand why daddy hasn't come home and we have alot of adjusting to do, but I know the love they have provided me makes my husband very happy. Thanks to HART for leading us to Cindy and Willy!

HART is aptly named - with a heart as big as it can be for all dogs & cats. They save animals that many of us would put down, and - this is so important - those animals go on to bless us and they are blessed too. I am SO proud to be associated with HART. My HART dog is a wonderful blessing to me!

I love HART because they help the animals that need them the most (not necessarily the most adoptable).
They are the best! Perfect example is the puppy mill. Not ONE of those dogs was ever treated as too sick to give them a chance for a forever home. HART goes out of their way to do the best that they can do for all of the dogs and cats. Also for United Way campaign, their administrative costs are the lowest around, and that's for everything, not just shelters.

HART has brought me the BEST dogs! I have found some true friends there who don't just adopt dogs and move on - they form friendships and care for animals throughout their lives. I have also used other places to adopt but HART by far is my favorite! I love HART for uniting me with my best friends!!!

My two wonderful dogs are HART rescues. HART has been a wonderful shelter to work with during both adoptions. They are committed to finding the right home for their pets and do so much for homeless animals in our area. We heart HART!

Because when there is a disaster, they rescue pets that are not thought about or cared for when their owners are rescued from any disaster.
This organization is incredibly committed to helping every dog, even ones other people would consider to be "lost causes"
HART is great - We adopted one dog from them, and they are very committed to ensuring the pets have the best home possible - for example, when we looked into adopting a second dog, they looked up their records to determine if the dogs would be a good fit, and actually said no, as they didn't seem compatible - serving as proof that they truly are committed to the best future possible for their no-kill foster pets. And super friendly too!
They are the best and do so much for the animals.
This organization took in a ton of dogs that were from a puppy mill. These dogs live in the worst conditions imaginable. It's sick to think that these dogs suffered while the horrible people who put them through that made money. I commend HART for taking in these dogs and helping them find new starts to life.

HART is a dedicated group of volunteers who open their hearts and homes to hundreds of homeless animals each year with the goal of finding 4ever homes for each and every one of them. We recently adopted a dog through HART ~ what a wonderful experience. We feel like we've made friends for life.
We got Jolie came from HART on Valentine's Day in 2009. She had been found near a road in rural Virginia, pregnant, and placed in a kill shelter. HART rescued her and placed her in a wonderful foster home where she had her 7 pups. They then found forever homes for all her puppies, and we found her! The incredible thing is that HART does this for hundreds of dogs every year based solely on donations and the dedicated work of volunteers who are out there every weekend showing off would-be adoptees. With so many placements you'd think they'd rush to give away dogs, but far from the truth, they were extremely thorough in their interviews and home visit. They even came out after the adoption to help us with her socializing! I am in awe of the wonderful work HART does and I only wish I had more space to adopt another wonderful HART pet.

Cathy Komenda was the BEST when helping us with a rescue dog adoption almost five years ago. The chihuahua/peke mix (Scooby) that she matched us up with has been a wonderful part of our family. The HART team members are dedicated and caring volunteers that give pets a second chance.
We have been working with Cathy komenda and she has been great with prepairing us for our new family member. We have always felt it is better to spare a life and give these animals a second chance. We are looking forward to many years of love and affection but this would not be possible without the dedication and time involved with all of the members of HART.
