Because they have the greatest volunteers that understand the needs of the furry babies and their deserving to find loving homes. These babies are gifts from God and deserve a good home! Please find it in your heart to help this no-kill shelter to expand to save many more gifts from God. Thank you for understanding these blessings.

Why do you love Washington Area Humane Society? the staff truly care about their animals and matching them into successful homes

The WAHS is a special place for rescued animals to end up. They are a no kill shelter funded by charitable donations. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly! The shelter even just helped find homes for a bunch of dogs and puppies that were rescued from a shelter that burnt down in WV. If the shelter could win $10,000 maybe it would be enough to expand a little bit to allow more pets in these troubled times.

I was a volunteer until I suffered severe complications from surgery. I have never met a nicer group of people from the vets to the trainers. This shelter needs quite e bit of work, and would fare well with these winnings. They do, however, make the best of what they have, and allor the animals are treated royally. Each person has a specific job and does it well. It is my hope that The WAHS will win this years award, for it could make a world of difference for their no-kill shelter!

The shelter does wonders for the hundreds of animals that pass through the building each year. The volunteers work non-stop to provide the best they can for the animals. Having volunteered there several times I can attest that each worker truly loves what they are doing. The devotion of each volunteer is noticed as soon as one walks in the door. Whatever way the animals wind up in WAHS, good or bad, I know that they are in a safe and loving environment waiting for the next special someone.

Our family adopted our dog Chelsea from WAHS in 1999. We had gone to the shelter just to "look around" and ended up driving home with Chelsea in the back seat. It was at that moment we became contributing members of WAHS. During our visit in 1999 we saw how hard the volunteers worked at caring for the poor, homeless cats & dogs. They not only worked hard at keeping the animals healthy but also at loving them unconditionally. I've been to a few WAHS functions and still find this same affection & dedication with all the volunteers today. They love their animals and work hard at finding them a good, compatable home. The volunteers are so close and personal with the animals; they know the animals by name and speak of the dogs/cats as if they were their own children. You have to be a "special" type of person to devote so much time, hard work - and love - for the welfare of all those abandoned animals; and I think all those "special" people are working as volunteers at the WAHS. This shelter deserves all the credit and monetary assistance it can get in order to continue the wonderful, selfless work in caring for the animals and finding them a good home.

There are so many helpless and homeless dogs and cats in this area. We need to support our Humane Society shelter because we need to find sanctuary for as many of these pathetic animals as we can. These poor animals didn't ask to be born in the street, or abused, or abandoned by people who should never have had them in the first place. Our shelter really works at making life better for these dear little creatures. They need all the help they can get. Winning the $10,000 would give our shelter an opportunity to rescue, rehabilitate, and care for more animals. These precious animals deserve our help, and the people who care for them deserve our support and our thanks.

The WAHS is absoultely one of the best shelters I've visited. The staff of the "cat room" are truly to be commended for their selflessness and concern in tending to these poor homeless animals. When we adopted our 6-mo-old kitten Isabella, so many staff from other areas of the shelter came to the door to say goodbye to her and wish her well. It was really heartwarming to know taht so many staff had interacted and cared for her during those long 5 months in her cage. The WAHS staff is really deserving of the $10,000 and the honor of being the best animal shelter!

Even though there are closer shelters, we have adopted three wonderful dogs from this no kill shelter over the years. The staff is so incredibly supportive! On the sad occasion that we had to return one of those dogs because our older dog was a threat to him, I broke down sobbing and shaking when I turned him over. The staff was so sympathetic and one member even hugged me to try and console me. I had written them a detailed letter about the dog; all his pros & cons, his needs, his habits, etc... I assume they used the letter and the supplies we left with him, because that lovely animal was re-adopted soon after we had to take him back. I can't thank them enough!

I recently started volunteering at the shelter and the staff are wonderful, they work so hard! They care about all of the animals, each one is treated like a member of the family. I have gotten 3 wonderful pets from the shelter. The shelter is a no kill shelter and THE STAFF is a bunch of ANGELS. THEY CARE ABOUT EACH SOUL that comes into the shelter and they do everything that they can to make each one comfortable with little funds, until they find a new home for each and everyone that has touched their heart. This shelter deserves to win because their HEARTS are BIG and their big hearts and caring ways have touched many souls and has changed many lives. It would be joyful to see the shelter get a BIG monetary boost. These angels help innocent souls and any help that they can get just opens their hearts even more.

Without the shelter, my family would not be complete. We lost our last dog to cancer and our house felt empty. We wanted to adopt a dog who needed a good home. The shelter helped our Missy by providing a place for her to deliver her puppies, adopting her puppies out to good homes, nursing her back to health (she was very thin) and then placing her at Camp Bow Wow in Castle Shannon. That is where we found her. We visited the shelter to sign the papers and felt the love from everyone there. Now I know why Missy is so loving. Thank you WAHS!! You will always have a special place in our hearts.

We adopted two dogs from the shelter this past year, after both of our dogs had passed. The first dog we got her name is Goldie, she is so sweet and loveable, she rules the house. We will have her for a year on the 30 of November. The second one the we got from there, we got her in July of this year, she is so full of life! She loves to be loved on and is such a happy go lucky dog. They are great company to have and our daughter loves to walk them both. The staff was great both times we were there and were not pushy at all. Thank you for all of your hard work!!

Why do you love Washington Area Humane Society? I adopted my siberian husky Dakota about one year ago from the shelter and I don't know how I ever lived without her. When my husband and I went to the shelter we didn't know what to expect. WHat we found were people willing tohelp us find a dog that fit us perfectly, who truely cared about the animals wll-being after their adoption, and a place I could truely get to know the dog of my choice before making a decision about inviting them into my home. We were able to walk her and play with her in an enclosed yard area and that made it all the easier to get to know Dakota and fall in love with her. I recommend adopting a shelter animal to anyone and everyone I meet who are wanting an animal.

I went to this shelter looking to adopt a cat. The staff spent a lot of time with me helping me decide what was the right cat for me and were able to tell me so much about many of the cats at the shelter. They were very knowledgeable and would recommend them to anyone.

Our shelter does an exceptional job of taking care of the animals and finding them loving forever homes. I hope that your company will indeed give the shelter it needs. We are a small facility but we haven't been able to achieve any funds from a national company. Please help!

We adopted a dog from the washington shelter about 3 years ago and it was the best thing we ever did. He is the best dog and they were very helpful. We tried to adopt a mate for him the following year but were unable to find another dog there that he "clicked" with and ended up adopting from another shelter. That experience was not as pleasant. We ended up with another wonderful dog but that facility did not seem to care as much about their animals as the washington shelter does. Every time we have been to the washington shelter their dogs are well taken care of and the facility is clean.

This shelter does a wonderful job of taking care of all animals that come in. All employees and volunteers are so caring and kind and take time with each animal to make sure they are loved, walked, fed and as healthy as they can be until they find their forever home.

We found our beautiful Dixie Doodles at this shelter. It took some time for the staff to find a dog that would get along with the two I already had. But the person assisting us worked tirelessly to find us the right match. And the rest has been history. Dixie thinks she rules the house, but my male dog knows better! She has been very loving and just a joy to have with us in our pack!

If it wasn't for a volunteer who had a female pitt mix who didn't like other dogs out for a run, we wouldn't have our little Paisley. She just reminded us of the rottie mix we had to put down the day after Thanksgiving. The shelter staff allowed us to bring Monty to meet her. She was needed as a companion for him. They get along like any siblings. Never thought that we would adopt a female, dog hating dog! LOL

They work so hard to help the pets / animals there be happy and get healthy. They have volunteers walk the dogs, care for the other animals, care for the injured, etc. They have really poured out their lives to help these to have happy stay there and to eventually find homes.

the shelter and it's workers are some of the most dedicated I've seen. I, personally have adopted two dogs from the shelter and the staff have been very helpful and knowledgable about the animals. The shelter could really use a facelift, though. They do the best they can with what they have, but a remodeled shelter would help them do their work better.

They are clean and friendly. The animals are obviously getting good care. I adopted my big Yellow tabby, Rufus, from WAHS. He had a bad hernia and the shelter paid to have it fixed. He's been a great addition to our family.

Last year we lost both of our family pets. One day we stopped at the local Petco and WAHS was there with a wonderful dog named Bella. My son was in love with her and on the way home we stopped to see what other dogs they may have when Bella came back to the shelter and that day we ended up bringing her home with us. She has been a delight to us every since with her beatiful blue eyes. Thank you WAHS for taking care of all the animals looking for a forever home and thank you for Bella.
