Miami Dade Animal Services is run by a group of dedicated individuals whose primary goal is to get all animals adopted. In addition, they have made leaps in restructuring the system as was left four years ago by the previous administration. Adoptions have increased tremendously; it is obvious that the goal of Miami Dade Animal Services is to turn the facility into a non-kill shelter, as is demonstrated by the efforts set forth by its Administrator and committed staff. I believe that the much needed funding to make this effort possible would be a God send to these loving pets and staff.

Since 2005, pet adoptions at Miami-Dade Animal Services have increased 266%, from 3,000 per year to a record breaking 8,330 animals. In addition, 50 Rescue Partners have broken their own record and saved 3,889 more pets. More animals than ever before in the history of the Department have been saved despite the difficult economic times.
Nonetheless, Animal Services also faces the challenge of in increasing number of animals abandoned at the shelter. Last year, ASD received 37,149 dogs and cats. Pet owners need to understand that spaying and neutering our pets is the only way to decrease shelter intake and stop the senseless euthanasia of healthy animals.
Saving the lives of over 37,000 pets a year is a community effort and Animal Services urges the community to do the right thing:
Spay/neuter your pets.
Microchip and identify your pets.
Adopt a shelter pet.
Pet overpopulation is something we can control, but we need the community to make a difference. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
