This shelter has been aroung for over 30 years and operates out of a building set back in the industrial area of Chicago Hieghts. We have some great programs to help low income families or people who have come on hard times keep there animals such as low cost grooming and vaccinations. We have a free food programs for those that can show proof of need. We also have a foster program that helps us save aniamals that may need socialazation or have medical issues. these homes also help create space when the shelter is full

I have grown up getting my animals from this shelter my whole life. My current dog, Simba, is from this shelter. He is one of the best dogs I have ever owned. They staff was very friendly and helpful in helping me pick the right dog.

I feel like every time I have been there, the animals seem calm and happy. Most importantly the shelter is clean! The staff actually knows what they are talking about and it seems like some of them have bonds with the animals. :)
South suburban shelter is so loving and caring to all of the animals that pass thru their doors. They are in one of the harder hit areas in regards to strays, and find a way to find homes that will love and nurture them.
I think it take someone special to take care of animals that does not have a family to take care of them, these animal are being care for by a special group of people I hope that this work will continue.
I have adopted 2 of my 3 pets from SSHS. I love them like they were my children and the staff is very dedicated and helpful. I know they have so many animals as I frequent the shelter but they could use a facelift to accommodate the huge amount of animals that they try to save/adopt. Please help this great facility just better their atomosphere and homes to so many sweet animals.
