My two adorable dogs are HT adoptees and I love volunteering for HT too!

A great all breed dog and cat rescue that pulls from a number of shelters.

Rescues approximately 1,700 animals (including special needs pets) from rural shelters in VA and WV per year. Has a great network of foster homes, volunteers and adopters. Desperately needs donations to continue its rescue operations and provide appropriate health care and spay/ neuter for the rescued animals while in foster care.

Homeward Trails takes in all animals, young, old, sick, healthy, cute, ugly and so on! These people have huge hearts and make room for every little critter in them.

Homeward Trails saves animals from the most dire situations and puts them in loving homes. We don't turn down any dog based on "policy" but rather go on a case-by-case basis!

I first saw Norbert in an online posting from Homeward Trails. I had promised my husband I'd stop looking, but we couldn't resist visiting the adoption event just to meet him. It took a while before we were permitted to adopt Norbert, because Homeward Trails wanted to make sure we would take care of him. I appreciate their concern about the animal first, and I love the online outreach. Plus, Norbert is the very best dog in the whole wide world!

Homeward Trails works with shelters in small or rural communities to give their animals wider exposure on lin (D.C. Metro area). Then they bring the pet to the adopting family. In my case they brought our perfect dog match, Angel from N.C. to Northern Virginia and right to our house. She's the best, and so is Homeward Trails.
