Mike and Abi are the best. I have watched their shelter grow through the years and it is always done right.

Mike offers great advice and gives the birds such tender loving care. Surrendering a pet is never easy, but I felt good knowing that my pet was going into good hands.

IOwa Parrot Rescue has given me 2 of my 5 parrot family members. They have a wonderful facility and do a wonderful and honest job. Mike has been incredible and supportive for my new pet shop. Let's show them how wonderful they are!!!!

I had to adopt out my sons Senegal parrot after my son left for the Marines They took him in and found him a good home. He gave us a tour and told us about all the birds there. It takes a very special person to do what he does, and do it so well.

Truly a haven for a poorly understood pet species, the birds have strong love and care to help them on their journies.

It is best shelter because the animals ALWAYs come first. They find a family for a bird, Not a bird for a family!

Iowa Parrot Rescue is the real deal. Mike dedicates his LIFE to the care of ALL orphan birds. Mike invited my wife & I to visit him over 3 years ago when our first parrot passed away. We had not heard of Iowa Parrot Rescue before then, but Mike invited us into his home for a visit. To make a long story short, we brought home our second parrot, Sammy. He turned our grief & sorrow into such joy!

Abi and Mike are absolutely wonderful and inspiring They have devoted their lives to rescuing and nurturing parrots and educating the public about companion birds. Their facility and knowlege are extremely impressive. It is clear that they put a great deal of thought and planning into their new buidling which reflects their knowledge about the needs of birds. The building is constructed to survive the sometimes harsh weather and its sequelae in Iowa (tornadoes, ice storms, prolong power outages, etc...). It is designed to give the birds as much protection and freedom as possible. Their website alone is enough to convince you that they respect, love, and understand parrots. Touring their facility only reinforces that impression. Mike invited me to tour their facility this summer and I was extremely impressed - they have many birds yet they know every bird well. It is evident watching them interact with the birds that they have earned the birds' respect and trust which is no small feat. Their care does not end when a bird is adopted. I adopted one of their small parrots this past summer and their guidance and advice since has been extremely helpful. While there are many excellent rescue organizations for all types of animals, Iowa Parrot Rescue is exceptional and well-deserving of this award for the best shelter.
