Ellen Jefferson reports "MIXIE has an adopter. And there are backups. So [hopefully], Mixie is safe." She also says thank you for the support and networking that saved her.
May all keep in mind the tremendous urgency involved in the lives of homeless companion animals... and stop dealing with breeders and "pet stores" to end the cycle of needless suffering.
Mixie, a 5 year old Pit Bull, had a great life. She had a young active owner who took her everywhere. He took her to work everyday and trained her to know every command you can think of. She knows hand signals and her vet said she was the best-trained dog he had met.
BUT on about May 3rd, 2009, her owner died. She got sent to the pound. Imagine how her life has been completely turned upside down - losing the person she loved and her home.
Please help Ellen Jefferson, President of Austin Pets Alive (APA) (512) 663-8643 to not let her die there. That is a double whammy of sadness. The young owner’s mother has a yorkie and she just can’t risk a fight (the yorkie would lose).
Mixie loves people and children and is good on walks and of course going to work. She sometimes growls at other dogs but has never gotten into a fight. The owner’s mother does not think she would do well with cats but did great with her four young boys. Austin Pets Alive! is trying to save her but we cannot rescue her because of her growling at other dogs. All of their dogs have to be together. Their Rescue Coordinator thinks that she is a tub of wags/wiggles and reminds her of a little piggy because she squirms and snuffles when she’s happy.
Do you know anyone who is looking to save a life or find a great dog? What about someone willing to foster until she finds a forever home?
She has less than 48 hours.
Please emailinfo@austinpetsalive.org or call APA's number above for more info. If you would like to meet Mixie, go to Town Lake Animal Center in Austin, Texas and ask to see the dog in pen # 230. They know about her case. APA are recommending that she go to a single dog household or to a very experienced pit owner if there are multiple dogs.
Please forward to anyone you think may be able to help
The petition: Welcome to the worldwide petition, Paul naked for PETA. For those of you who are unaware or unsure of our petition, well it's quite simple, we want Sir Paul McCartney to pose naked in one of PETA's successful anti-fur advertisements. My friends and I as committed supporters of PETA, wish to thank all who have participated in PETA's anti-fur awareness campaign. One particular celebrity however, who has not yet featured, and in acknowledgment of his support and activism, is the loved and respected Sir Paul. In our view, Sir Paul's global following and popularity, which flows as strong today as it did "Yesterday", would captivate and inform a wider population.
Please sign our petition, add us as a friend on MySpace and tell as many people about our campaign as possible. You can sign here and email us at PaulnakedforPETA@gmail.com, for information or updates.
Thank you members! Because of your support, the Utah legislature passed S.B. 297. This new law makes the torture of a dog or cat a felony on the first offense in Utah.
In 2007, Utah was considered one of the top five worst states in the country in terms of animal protection laws. This new law is a huge victory for animal welfare advocates everywhere.
Best Friends founder Gregory Castle followed the process from beginning to end and stated, "I've been tremendously impressed and delighted with the enthusiastic and energetic support that Best Friends members have given this effort during the last few months. Many legislators have told me that they have received hundreds and hundreds of calls and emails from our members. There is no doubt it has been a huge help in getting this important legislation passed. My personal thanks to all those who have made their voices heard for the animals."
Your voice made the difference. With your help we can continue to spread the message as we try to save as many animals as possible through awareness, education and action. With this online grassroots movement, we can confront puppy mills, stop breed specific legislation, support spay and neuter initiatives, and bring about a time of no more homeless pets.
Please visit site and take action and send email via the site to stop this shocking way these animals have been left to die, thank you. Please forward/crosspost to everyone you know thank you. Sharon.
