{ else }   Blog: No buddy left behind - helping soldiers save their pets

Please share!!   As many of you know, Sgt. Beberg's dog "Ratchet" is now home from Iraq and in Minnesota safe and sound.   More than 69,000 people signed the petition asking for clemency for the soldier's dogs, with orders of "shoot to kill" and certain death awaiting Ratchet.  The AP sent the story to every news agency around the world and it became headline news everywhere.  With the eyes of the world watching, the Army finally released  the soldier's dog and after a third attempt to transport Ratchet out of iraq, Operation Baghdad Pups finally rescued the dog.

But, our efforts do not end with Ratchet. Many more soldiers are anxiously waiting for their pets to be granted safe passage home to the U.S. Operation Baghdad Pups receives 4-5 requests a week from soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan, asking for safe passage home for their pets.

Our letter and petition to the Department of Defense to appeal their policy against animals and soldiers is now online.

Please take a moment to read the petition and sign it. A letter writing campaign to the DOD is our objective. The Army heard our voices about Ratchet and released him. Now, we must make sure the DOD hears our voices and listens. The policy must be changed. We know far too much about PTSD to ignore this problem.    Please go to:

Please share this with friends, family and your online communities.

Thank you for your time and continued support.

{ else }   Blog: Hard To Bear

Hi,

My name is Dennis Black Hawk. I’m an American Indian and have had black bears for 14 years. Don’t get the wrong idea, I don’t have the bears as pets. NO ONE should have bears as pets. I have a very small non-profit called the End Of The Trail Refuge in Arkansas. We don’t have a 501(c)3 as we can’t afford it right now even though our paperwork is made out.

I can save a whole lot of typing by giving you this link which will explain why I have the bears. This is the last court case Judge Alito decided before he was appointed to the Supreme Court. I’m the Plaintiff:

http://www.pamd.uscourts.gov/opinions/vanaskie/99v2048.pdf

By Federal Judge Vanaskie, and this one:

http://www.ca3.uscourts.gov/opinarch/023947p.pdf

By Federal Judge Samuel Alito

Almost every year, the adults have cubs. I raise them and donate them to reputable places like the Memphis Zoo. I will not have the adults “fixed” as we don’t believe in altering wildlife, even though the bears were declawed before I got them when they were cubs and before they were barely able to walk. I would NOT have done that.

Every year, I take the cubs around to schools, etc. and try to educate people that bears are NOT the fearsome predators that they are made out to be, they have just as much right to walk this Earth and share it with all other species, and about American Indian spiritual beliefs on wildlife. I (well I don’t touch a penny) receive donations for the care of the bears. This only last 3 months though. This year we received a total of approx. $ 600.

This year, I cannot find anyone reputable who would take care of the cubs. It’s a long term commitment, as black bears live 25-30 years in captivity. Therefore, I now have the adults and the cubs here.

This year’s donations were used to feed the cubs (very expensive to feed them, as their milk is extremely high fat) and to expand the pen for the adults which is far from finished, as I hate seeing them in a 40 x 40 pen which is the state minimum. I THOUGHT that I’d have a good home for the cubs by now.

For those of you who ask “why don’t you return them to the wild?”, I would tell you that first, it’s against the law to return anything born in captivity to the wild. Secondly, the adults were (unfortunately) declawed and couldn’t defend themselves or dig up grubs and roots. As for the cubs and the adults, they are acclimated to people and would turn out to be a “nuisance” and be killed, not to mention hunting season.

I’m still paying for the cubs’ food out of my own pocket, and I hardly make enough money for myself and my son. The adults eat well, (the male is 600 lbs.), as I receive donations of fruits and vegetables from a local supermarket.

If anyone can help or has any ideas, I would sure appreciate it.

Thank you.

{ else }   Message: NEED ADVICE PLEASE
HELP! The people who live behind me have a new puppy. I know this b/c for the past week I have heard the poor dog barking, whining, and yelping from behind the fence. He cries every day from early in the morning until five o' clock or later, at night. I can not see any food or water, when I put a ladder up to the fence, so I have been sneaking it to him. I live in Florida, and it is just starting to get very hot here. I am extremely concerned for this puppy's welfare. Of course, I contacted the local organizations in place, and they are reluctant to do anything at this time. I would be happy to keep the little guy in my care, with my 3 dogs, if the people wanted me to, during the day. I am afraid to say anything without asking advice first, b/c I fear if I am overly confrontational the dog will suffer. What should I do? *blacklab*

{ else }   Message: Please Help Me Bring Littlebug Home
Hi, I am embracing a horrific trauma in my life that has seen three anniversaries since April 15, 2003 in San Diego Family Court and find myself in need of friends like you for your generous support.

You see due to judicial crimes to me, I can't contact my Granddaughter and naturally this hurts me very much but there is another life this loss of contact has emotionally abused as well, and that would be, "Mama Guinea" Littlebug's guinea pig. I hate to see Mama Guinea grieving unnecessarily for her master Littlebug, and you could help me change that.....

I would like for you to sign the following petitions in CARE 2.
I am trying to get District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis to do something about perjury  and religious hate-crimes in San Diego Family Courts so I can have a fair hearing and bring my Granddaughter I have raised for seven years back home to Missouri to reunite with Mama Guinea.

I am also going to approach the senate to change some laws In California that are by the people & pets and for the people & pets so please sign the following two petitions in the two links below.

Thank You from Mama Guinea and Littlebug, the links are below. Please pass it around to your friends, family, etc..
Jacklyn
