Sama is a 10 year old elephant cow, living in the Pinnawela orphanage, Sri Lanka, after she had her right front foot blown away by a landmine in 1995. Project Lucky Sama will try to help Sama with a prosthesis and assist Pinnawela.

The project, "Lucky Sama", was established in Germany to support the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela and Sama. Because of her increasing size and weight and unnatural hind leg position to balance her bodyweight on three feet, her joints, as well as her spine, have changed.
