Last night about 12:00 my time I tried to come into Care2.com the site was slow abd one could not get around..This is why..They are working on problems..

Care2 and the PetitionSite have been under a DOS attack since around 9:30pm last night.  The attack is aimed specifically at thepetitionsite.com, but because both sites are located on the same servers, all service has been affected.  

At this time, we do not know who is behind the attack. During a DOS attack, what usually happens is that computers around the world (which have been infected by a particular virus) suddenly start sending lots of requests to a website, overwhelming it.  This current attack is very widespread and thus hard to stop.

We are working with our ISP and taking measures internally to stop the attack. It may still be sometime before service is back to normal.

Care2 is being hit with a DDOS attack

Starting at around 9:30pm on Monday, June 15th, Care2's PetitionSite has been under a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack.  This is a malicious attack intended to overload our servers and shut down our site.  If you are unable to reach thePetitionSite.com, or find Care2.com slow, the cause is this cyber attack.

We are working with our ISP, and taking a variety of measures to counteract the attack, however, the attackers have adjusted their tactics in response.

The attack is large, and appears to be from tens of thousands of computers.  DDOS attacks are usually perpetrated via viruses that have infected computers around the globe.  The perpetrators take control of the computers to send massive numbers of requests to a server, thereby overwhelming it. It is hard to fight because it is coming from so many computers, and new computers are periodically brought online to continue the attack.

We do not know who is behind the attack. Clearly, someone is threatened with the impact the PetitionSite is having.  It's possible the attack is being coordinated by a single unhappy hacker, or it's possible it's related to some of the petitions we've recently had related to international events.  It's pure speculation at this point as we simply do not know, however its size and characteristics suggest it's a well coordinated attack.

Hi Samantha..Well at least I know someone seen this thread..Care 2 has been having so much trouble with this attack ..not only once but now twice..I did see where the system is now updating itself as I got all my butterflies for my daily clicks from the past week..The best I can say is try to keep a eye on Randys Blog at twitter because as far as I see that is the best place to keep up to date as to some of the problems going on here at Care2.com

There are still alot of problems with posting in groups I hope it gets better soon and that this is not going to effect Care2.com site in the long run..Although In my opion it already has

Thanks JoAnna for posting this i have seen it and read it and tried to post to it but it wouldn't let me grrrrrrr so that why i didn't respond to it but i seen to be posting good right now but who know about tomorrow what it will bring we can only wait and see what happen and do the best we can with it all and many things are affecting care2 i have seen where so many members are leaving cause of so many problems going on here it use to be a great place but it changed in so many ways and lot of it started when they started changing and updating things in it so maybe it will be back to normal again one day we all can only hope and pray it does ...

Hi Ann ,I know others have seen this thread..Sorry I really didn't mean to come off like that..I just wish Care2 would communicate with their members and keep them updated..

Just like was posted above they didn't even know why they were having trouble here posting and stuff to this site..Let alone get into the site!

And sorry I just don't see why Care2 went and added Twitter and Facebook connection when there was already so many things wrong already! Look how long the Care2 email has been broke!.. I agree with you that when I joined it seemed very different..then it does now..

Maybe we should all just stop and go to facebook and Twitter..

Geez I am sorry I am going to go to bed..I guess it has been a long day for me..JoAnna
