Bioneers' Dreaming New Mexico Wins International Kudos

Bioneers BannerCan we shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy and create healthy communities? Dreaming New Mexico, a Bioneers collaborative project that seeks to reconcile nature and culture at the state level, maps the way. DNM was chosen as the runner-up for the prestigious 2009 Buckminster Fuller Challenge from about 200 entries worldwide. The jury noted, "DNM provides a rich community process that can be replicated across the globe to help us build strong local economies and sustainable, resilient communities."

Reforming food systems, energy and the economy

While Washington wrangles with food safety, climate change and the economic crisis, citizen innovators are creating real solutions.

Bioneers Banner Tainted peanut butter, sprouts and cantaloupe are only the latest symptoms of an ailing food system that's making people sick. The good news is that change is under way. Michael Pollan, the nation's leading thinker on food and author of bestsellers includingIn Defense of Food and The Omnivore's Dilemma, will examine the growing movement to redesign a healthier food system at this year's Bioneers Conference.

Great Lakes Bioneers enters its 5th year in Traverse City deepening relationships with Bioneers headwaters and with our neighbors. Coordinated by the Neahtawanta Center, SEEDS, and a slew of other professional volunteers, we’ll be serving local foods to the lucky, offering dancing to the democratic, and featuring fair-trade libations for the masses. The revolution has childcare, youth training grounds, media connectivity, and that special Bioneer crossroads synergy. Taos, NM

For the 2nd year, New Mexico Bioneers come together in Taos to continue motivating and inspiring each other to preserve our ecosystems, livelihoods, and traditions. Taos is home to earthships and old adobes; one of the first solar-powered radio stations, KTAO; and the longest-settled community in the U.S. – Taos Pueblo – a World Heritage site and lesson in sustainable community. Our growing season is short and yet small family agriculture, sustainable and traditional, is a living element of our eco and social systems. Grassroots leaders and innovators will engage in a community dialogue about energy footprints, coalition-building, rainwater harvesting, restoring the land and water commons, youth engaged in global/local learning, farming and food security, restoring ourselves. Activities also include educational field trips and an interactive art exhibit.
