STEVE IRWIN WAS MY HERO AND I AM HONORING STEVE AND HIS FAMILYWITH THIS GROUP. I WISH I COULD ONLY FILL HIS SHOES AND DO ALL HE HAS DONE. HOWEVER I CANT. I ONLY HAVE THE COMPUTER TO DO MY PART IN MY QUEST TO SAVE AND HELP ANIMALS BY MAKING THE WORLD AWARE OF THE GREAT PEOPLE AND PLACES THAT DO HELP ANIMALS ON A DAILY BASIS.
IF YOU WORK WITH ANIMALS OR KNOW OF SOME ONE THAT DOES PLEASE SHARE YOUR STORIES AND PHOTOS HERE.
please help me get this group going by telling me of people here in care2 that you find are great leaders for different animal groups.

personally any of the animal, environment ACTIVIST groups impress me. October 17, 2006 4:26 PM
with so many groups and some posting the same things from group to group, or basically about the same as many others like them, i find that any of the ACTIVIST and working groups that are hands on to be the best yet! i don't pay much attention too much to any of the groups, unless it has on hands working members in it. did you want me to name a few? or leave it to others to decide for themselves? giggle. hugs kindle

My invitation said "if you have a love for animals . . . tell me why . . . ." To which I can only reply, why not? No animal ever did anything to me to make me not love them. People, on the other hand, . . . .
Bears and canines of all kinds (except poodles) are my favorite but I love all mammals and birds. Fish are all wet as far as I'm concerned, and I still don't understand why Noah or his family didn't swat those two blasted mosquitoes when they had the chance.
I do not hunt or fish as a personal preference, but I do buy meat at the grocery store. Just so we're straight on that from the beginning.
I have been a long-time member of the National Wildlife Federation (U.S.) and a more recent member of the Nature Conservancy. In university, I wrote a paper on the grizzly bear and love to see them whenever I can in Glacier National Park which is just over an hour's drive from home.
I have walked dogs for the Humane Society until I moved out of town. I have two Samoyed boys who, along with my human wife, constitute my entire family (CNBC).
LOL... I don't work with animals except my 2 boxers when I run them, etc.... I do work with preschoolers and prekindergarteners though.... and they can be pretty wild, does that count??
Thanks for the invitation! I noticed ya sent me 3 LOL, I was out for coffee with my girlfriend and just got in not long ago. Steve Irwin was a great man that did an amazing job helping wildlife. I would love to accomplish half of what he did! I love all animals, I live on the beautiful appalachian route in New-Brunswick Canada, so it's very common to see all kinds of wildlife, especially moose! I can't wait to buy myself a nice camera so I can take lot's of pics for ya! Talk soon............

Hey Able today was the first invite I received or I would have been here sooner. I do not work directly with wildlife but I love our planet and all her creatures and will do whatever it takes to help you with your group! I too loved Steve Irwin and I adore his wife too. She was so brave and dignified during the time after his death. I think we might be surprised by her again in the future in some way. thanks for the invite Abel.

Thanks for the invite and I will try to contribute as much as I can. I don't think I measure up to the awesome things you guys are doing. Those seal pics were precious! Most of my work revolves around helping people who have been abused. Please visit my Web site if you want to check it out: www.hope4survivors.com
I am pretty busy with finishing my book and this Web site, my job and life in general, but I do admire your work and support you 100%.
This is a great group and i admire Steve Irwin very much.Although when he was doing the TV show what i didnt like was the way he was kissing and hugging all the animals especially the snakes and the alligators all the time but i guess he loved them very much. Thanks Mr.Bear for inviting me here and i hope to help any way i can.Sorry but I cant be a cohost because i have lots of things to do all the time and being a cohost demands a lot of time. But i truly admire all the hard work you do for the wildlife and i would love to be a part of this and any other of your groups for animals.
Hi Mr. Bear! I am here!! Thanks for the invite, you can invite me as many groups as you would like to.lol You have great groups!

Hi Abel: I'm here and thanks for the invite. If you still need one I'll be glad to co-host and I spell better than Hammy
You have to know that Steve Irwin was my personal hero and my 5 year old grandson continues to feel grief at his loss. I believed in what he was doing and I have made significant contributions to his Wildlife Warriors organization and to the Australia Zoo.
His father made such a poignant comment when he said "don't grieve for Steve-he is at peace. Grieve for the animals because they have lost the best friend they will ever have."
I love animals and all other critters and if you have seen my profile page you already know that my personal life centers on "Be Kind To All Living Things"
My personal philosophy comes from the Desiderata
You are a child of the universe,no less than the trees and the stars;
Thanks for the invite! Big Kudos to you for starting this group. Steve Irwin, in my opinion is, and always will be legendary. I watched Terri, his wife in the interview with Barbara Walters..God bless her for being so strong, and bravely speaking on the Crocodile Hunter's behalf, who's passion and dedication will never be forgotten.
I cried while watching a tribute to Steve Irwin on Animal Planet just days after his death-actually a day after my Grandmother's passing..They were showing video of Terri giving birth to their daughter..I remember saying, "I haven't even cried over my grandmother yet...But I'm crying over watching this!"
I'm curious about co-hosting for a group Abel. I've never done it. As far as my involvement with wildlife...As a child, I cried whenever witnessing a dead animal on the side of the road, attempted rescueing any strays, even tried to save a big raccoon that I accidentally hit (first & last time I've hit an animal)..I'm one of those people that, when I see a turtle crossing the road, I'll pull over and go to get it safety. It has always been a dream of mine to work with a wildlife rescue unit...Maybe I'll make it happen someday...
THE HOSTING TEAM IS COMPLETE THANK YOU ALL October 19, 2006 6:19 AM
WELCOME ALL OF THE NEW COHOST TOGETHER WITH ALL OF OUR IDEAS I THINK THAT WE CALL PULL TOGETHER ONE HECK OF A GROUP. AS MY HOST I WILL LET YOU ALL DO WHATEVER YOU WANT HERE TO PROMOTE THE GREAT PEOPLE AND PLACES THAT HELP ANIMALS. EVEN IF ITS JUST A STORY ABOUT SAVING A TURTLE ON THE ROAD.
I JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS AGAIN TO HAMMY, GAYLE, KEITH AND CELESTE FOR BEING COHOST FOR THIS GROUP. IF EVERYONE COULD SEND THEM A GREEN STAR OR SOMETHING I WOULD APPRECIATE THAT.
I actually did attempt to save a snapper before, and I had to put it in my car because I wanted to get it back to a body of water..It started out in the back seat...but crawled under MY feet while driving!! It was hissing, and striking at me with it's open mouth!! I screamed and pulled over into a hult! THEN, I got it out of the car and it went underneath the car-and back towards the road! I must have looked like a crazy lady, because I would run around the other side of my car to try and veer it away from the road..Meanwhile, the snapper would continue doing what it did best-snap at me & hiss...Finally, a young boy came to my rescue, and fearlessly reached under my car to grab the little meanie, exclaiming to his mother a way back, "MOM! Can I have a pet turtle?!"....I felt silly and helpless..lol
I breathlessly await the retribution from you-if you get started I'll have to pull out my Bubba and Eunice stories. I'm from the South so I have tons of them.
On another note,I support a local rescue shelter and my cohort in "crime",who runs the shelter, often "rescue" neglected dogs which sometimes involves wire cutters, bolt cutters and the ability to jump tall fences in a single bound. We do the majority of our work under cover of darkness but have been known to be brazen enough to do it in broad daylight. This summer alone,we "rescued" 63 dogs,11 cats and 1 horse. This angel of mercy just provides them a home until someone wants to adopt them. So far,we have escaped being jailed or shot at.
Once a month,I take 300 pounds of Nutro Lamb and Rice to the shelter and I bake treats for the animals. Each dog and cat has its own soft blankie and a toy-I have found these at thrift shops and some I get at pet supply stores.
I am not allowed to enter Augusta Mall because I have caused so many problems at the pet store there by demanding to see their list of breeders. The last time I was ushered out by security so I will need volunteers to take my grandsons there at Christmas to visit Santa.
I put flyers on all the Ol'Roy dog food at Wal-Mart informing consumers of the ghastly ingredients-so I am persona non gratis there too.
Anyway, just a few of the things I do-some I can't talk about cause I don't particularly want to go to jail but I would to save an animal.
My passion in life, besides my children and grandchildren,is the love I have for black labs. My Jack and Simon have been gone from me for almost 2 years but I still find it strange that they don't meet me when I pull up to my home. I helped their mother give birth to them and for 8 years they were the dearest ones to me on the planet. Those brown eyes haunt me to this day and will until I meet them again at the Rainbow Bridge.
I am proud to co-host this group and will begin inviting friends who are also Wildlife Warriors.
You are one of those angels... October 19, 2006 8:36 PM
aren't you Gayle? Bless you for being someone whom is willing to take risks everyday for the welfare of helpless, neglected animals...I envy your bravery, and reading your testimony gives me inspiration and the will do follow in your footsteps.
I'm happy to be here, as a fellow cohost...I think k.i.t. with all of you will give me the strength to take new risks in my life...Good one of course...for the animals, and for our environment!
Thank you for inviting me Gayle this looks like another wounderful group. I stop to rescue turtles too. We have alot of box and painted turtles where we are and right now they are everywhere. I have also seen bobcat and I can hear coyotes at night now. It drives our dogs crazy. We have alot of wildlife around our house because we are so far back from the road and are near the woods.
I have 11 rescued cats and two dogs now. I moved to this house with only three cats. The rest just fallowed my invisible sign that says " cats in need come here", they just keep showing up.
We just rescued a dog from the neighbors recently too. They moved out and left him with no food, water or shelter. He was very emaciated and had only a chain around his neck. He has been gaining wheight fast and will be ready for adoption soon. He is very smart and friendly. Unfortunately we cant keep him. Any help would be much appreciated.
I hope you all have a great evening! Hugs, Carolyn
Thank you, Gayle, for inviting me to join this wonderful group. I wish I had the 'credentials' you have-you are truly a bonafide Wildlife Warrior! I do love all the animals and really enjoy 'being' with people who feel the same. I, too, admired Steve Irwin; we will not see his like again, I fear! Lark
Thank you so much Gayle for the invite, though I dont work directly with any of our four legged, two legged, feathered, swimming, or crawling/ flying friends, I honour them everyday by not eating them, or wearing them, and I rescue any that I find in need, whilst out and about, and I spend as much time as I can writing letters, signing petitions donating etc ,and ofcourse I spend most of my leisure time with my three best feline friends Billy, Teddy, and Cosmo who teach me the wonderous compassion and unconditional love that animals posess, and their fun and unhibited nature, I have tremendous respect for the wonderful people who work so hard in the field of rescue and protection of both wild and domesticated animals, to be honest I am not so sure I could handle this kind of work, though I love animals, I get to attached, I worked for a while in a kennels/cattery, and was 'promoted' to the quarantine section, as animals coming in to the UK had to be put into quarantine for 6months, I found it heartbreaking, as so many of the (mostly dogs) where abandoned by their owners and if a new owner could not be found they were, put to sleep!! I found myself going home in the evenings not being able to sleep, with worrying about these poor creatures and wanting to bring them all home with me, till eventually it got to much and I had to leave, it takes a very very special kind of person to work in the protection and liberation of our animal friends, and I thank them all from the bottom of my heart, they are true heroes in my eyes, as are all the good people in this group, thanks again and I in my own small way will do whatever I can.
It does take a special kind of person to be able to work day-in & day-out with those (animals and humans) neglected, abandoned, and/or abused...I had always wanted to get involved with helping children in need, but I think I would lose my sanity (and sleep) from witnessing the abundance of cruelty bestowed upon them...I've had opportunities with employment in some of those areas, and reluctantly withdrew from them...But I feel it is my calling, to someday in the near future, take on these responsabilities...I've had some growing and learning to do first, and feel that I've still got so much to learn...But it is a need of mine to help others...
You seem to be a good being Muriel...and when the time is right for you, I think you too, will take some brave steps to help someone in need...I'm sure you already do everyday, without paying much heed to it.
Your weaponry lacks some of the essentials and requires skill I don't possess. I couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with that little ol' slingshot but you should see what I can do with a BB gun and a can of Mace. Also, your slingshot will not cut a chain from around a dog's neck and will not cut the lock on a gate but my industrial strength cutters work perfectly. Now, there are some individuals that I wish I could hit on the backside with your weapon-anytime you would like to join me on my midnight forays you are more than welcome.
In case I haven't mentioned it,I am a retired 62 year old trauma nurse-I am afraid of nothing and if I can do this sort of thing several nights a week then you younger folks need to get out there and do the same.
Hammy,I'm so glad to be in a group with you-I have a whacked sense of humor and I appreciate it in others. Guess the group will have to sit back and watch us trade insults and lies
In case you're wondering, there are some things I do that are legal but they don't give me the same thrill as skulking around an abandoned building to trap feral cats or jumping a fence into a backyard and leading an animal to a safe haven. When I lie down at night,I know my purpose here on earth has again been realized and I will leave this earth a better place-what finer legacy could any human achieve?
Simone-a true Wildlife Warrior. So glad to see you here.
Carolyn,Lark,Wendy and Muriel-thank you for being a part of this great group.
Please invite your friends who care about animals and want to take action-I promise that neither you nor they will be required to jump fences and cut chains. All we need is the desire to make a difference in any way that we are capable.
Thanks Mr. Bear for inviting me It looks so awesome in here! And Gayle, you already know what a huge fan I am of your storytelling.
So many friends already here, this is going to be great. I really loved that Steve Irwin was all about making his love for animals everyone's love for animals. His enthusiasm and joy was just infectious!
I am glad you created this group to honor him, his family, and his message.
I look forward to making some new friends here, and working together for the animals!
to all my friends who have graciously accepted my invitation. You were chosen because I believe that you have a love and respect for animals that will enhance this group. For those of you who haven't,please introduce yourself on this thread. I'm so glad you're here.
