anonymous Avatar and Photo issues... November 19, 2006 12:30 PM

I just took over a group for Eccentric.

I changed the name of the group and I tried changing the avatar for the group 5 times.

I know I am doing it correctly, but the avatar will not change image

Does anyone know what the link is to check our avatars and photos?

I saw the links in F&S at one time, but now the posts with the links have a red x in the box with the word spam on it?????

I know I went to the links and I was able to edit my avatars...

If anyone knows these links please post them...

Thanks so much PJ

I have been trying to change my group photo since last Tuesday. I sent a message through the help form, and they got back to me saying they logged into my group, and tried changing the group photo, and did it the first time. I thought it might be fixed, but it idid not work for me.  [ send green star]

anonymous Can't change group photo; avatars cycling November 20, 2006 9:26 PM

I've been experiencing the same problem with group photos as others.  No matter how often I refresh my page after uploading a pic (and I only upload it after I make sure it's small enough to fit the size requirements), it just won't "take."

The avatar issue is that mine keep cycling.  I never know from one post to the next what my avatar will be.  I've done all the usual stuff - emptying my temp files, clear out the cache, even reboot my computer and log in again - and my security settings are the same as they've always been for this site.  I don't understand why my avi keeps cycling.

anonymous  November 25, 2006 10:30 AM

I have used Privacy Guardian and CCleaner and have F5'd, also Contol F5'd... refreshed refreshed refreshed... I have cleaned ALL browsing history/cache in both the IE and Firefox to no avail.

I know how to add the new avatar and have tried countless times but it will not change, no matter what I do.

I also cleaned my prefetch??? There is simply nothing left to try or is there?

Help me pleasePJ

I see a lot of people reporting issues like this, but I have not been able to replicate this failing for me. I have tried changing my profile photo as well as my group avatars. Sometimes the first time I view my profile/group after changing it, the old image is there, but hitting refresh always updates the image properly.

Do you have your browser set to check for new versions of pages every time you visit a page? Otherwise your browser may not be looking for new versions of the photos.

In IE you can set this in the General tab of the Internet Options by hitting the 'Settings' button for Temporary Internet Files. I believe that this is the default behavior in Firefox (though I'm not sure). However, clearing your browser cache should force the browser to load the new image.

Oops, I hit submit before I was finished.

Another thing to bear in mind with this issue is that not all file types are allowed for profiles. For instance, while it is possible to upload .bmp files to your photo albums, you cannot use .bmp files as your profile avatar or group avatar. Also, animated .gif files cannot be used, and files larger than 2 MB. If you are having problems with a ceratin file, check the type of file and file size to see if it is one that does not work.

actually Jeff November 29, 2006 9:16 PM

are any gif files permitted..  I know that animated ones don't work, but when I tried to load my avatar just as gif extension it didn't take.. I had to switch it to jpeg..
I hadn't thought about the browser setting on the check for updated versions.. that might explain a lot..

Hmm, I just tested that again, and .gif files work for me. That is strange if you are unable to upload gifs as your avatar. Are you sure the file was not too big or something?  [ send green star]

JeFF,

I did everything you said to do to change the group photo in cat lovers, and it will not change. One of my coHosts tried another photo, and he couldn't get it to change, and my group sees the old photo, not the one I uploaded for the new group photo. It is 2 weeks now.

I also sent a help message that I still have no tracking of any kind, and no one got back to me. I can't reply to care2 help now since my replies were bounced back to me saying there was no such mail box that exists. So now I can't get any help.

ScreamingBelle,

Could you try uploading the image you are trying to use into a photo album and give me the link to it so I could look at it to see why it might not be working for your group?

Right now I have managed to change my avi that posts in groups to the Yule flower (red and green) but on my page, it's still the Eye of Horus flower to me.

I'm not complaining, not that it would do any good anyway, because it's a seasonal image and if it does show up on my page, who knows when I'll be able to change it again?

Kris,

For what its worth, I see the red/green flower in all areas for your avatar. You may want to check your browser cache settings to make sure it is setup to check for new versions of pages every visit to the site, which should help to prevent seeing caches images. In addition, if an old image is showing up for you on your profile page, or anywhere else, hitting Ctrl-F5 or refreshing the page *should* get the correct image.

Jeff,

I could refresh my browser until my fingers fall off and it wouldn't change a thing.

It's the same whether I'm here at home using Ubuntu Linux and Firefox, or at work with some version of Windows and IE.

Same, same, same, same, same.

Kris

Kris, it worked by refreshing at one time, but it doesn't anymore. I have enlisted the help of many people, and they cannot do anything either.  [ send green star]

anonymous script error December 09, 2006 11:23 AM

I really love the groups on care2 and have joined many. But when I go to open the emails in my email client I get a script error on every one. I am not sure how to fix this but it is getting very aggravating. Is there something I can do to fix this? Tammy  [report anonymous abuse]

Jeff,

Jack is now on the My groups page, but he is still not on my front page of cat lovers yet. I did refresh a couple of times.

I get the same email script errors that Tammy S. is getting.  I use OE6 as my email client.  I think it has just started happenning within the last month or so.  Did Care2 optimize for IE7?  If that's true, it might be why those of us using email based on IE6 have issues.  Even though I use FF2 as my browser, I know that OE depends on IE.      [ send green star]

Amazingly enough, December 12, 2006 3:55 PM

The flower on my profile page is now the red and green "Yule Sunflower" avi.  Just changed today!  That was a week or more after I first tried to change it.

So I guess if I want to change it for New Years I should start on Christmas Day, huh?

Jeff,

If you got Jack up for me, thank you. He is there now.

I guess I might as well forget trying the newer one I asked for right now, and leave Jack up for a  week at least.

The new Kitty that I tried to put up as the cat lovers group photo just showed up after about a week, but not on the front page yet. He is on the my groups and discussion page. I guess it takes time to get to the main page.  [ send green star]
