Liberal Media

| Hot!

As most of us know, the mainstream liberal media was ended with the Telecommunications Act of 1996.  From that point on, media organizations have favored profit margins and mergers and de-emphasized the pesky investigative journalism that is the duty of the 4th Estate.  Why?  Because that pesky investigative liberal journalism not only was itself not particularly profitable, but it often uncovered the shady dealings of the media parent company that ultimately employed investigative journalists, directly attacking their most profitable avenue.   Our formerly respectable journalistic representatives are now subject to corporate censorship of any story deemed dangerous to the bottom line, and the argument can be made that ANY for-profit journalistic entity should not be owned by any entity other than itself.

There are some journalistic entities that do own themselves, and it is to these that we must turn.

Air America/Nova M radio: listen whenever you can.  Thom Hartmann and Randi Rhodes provide great info.  They are talk shows, which like reality TV are not for everyone, but they WILL inform you like no one else does, with stories no one else reports.

Bob Shrum shows us why we lose against the media time after time

How many times have major Dem elites been given a chance to tell Russert the truth? He never takes questions on his show and is often brought on NBC and MSNBC to impart his truth to us. Given a chance to finally smack down Tim Russert on MTP with an opening bigger than a super highway to drive his very nice car through, Bob Shrum demonstrates why the liberal elite think it’s more important to kiss the ring of the High Commissioner of the Beltway weenies rather than stick up for the awful treatment Democratic Politicians have received for decades. He may know a lot about politics and the history of the party, but watch and recoil.

This isn’t about supporting Hillary or Obama because they will turn on Obama versus McCain in due time. In Schrummy’s mind he’d rather let them walk all over Dems, assist in hiding their roll in the process, then dare tell Russert the truth. Hillary Clinton actually took an ad out against Tim Russert and he felt so bad about it, but fear not Tim, you had Schrummy to comfort you and caress you. Please make sure you have me back on the show Mr. Russert, so I can bill many more millions of dollars to another Dem candidate. You see, I have a seat at the table. Don’t let Harold Ford take it from me, Tim, PLEASE!

MR. SHRUM: And if she wants to get mad, she ought to put a picture of Euclid up there, because the problem is the math doesn’t add up. No matter how you do this, this race is fundamentally over. She’s not going to be the Democratic nominee for president, Barack Obama is. And we need to go into a process of healing. And I want to say, on her behalf in the last week, the, the level of the rhetoric has come down, the level of the attacks have come down. She’s making an electability argument. I think she really cares about the Democratic Party, and I hope that, in the end, whether she’s mad at you or not, she can somehow or other help unite this party and move us toward victory in November.

Sure Bob, she shouldn’t be mad at the network over this? Or this one either. The Daily Howler: “Russert Wept:

Is there no decency? This would not stand! Helping us understand “her problem,” Bob Shrum rushed in to succor his friend—to pander, kiss, smooch, fuss and fawn.”

The New York Times Cleans Up Kristol’s Mess…Kinda

As my esteemed colleague Logan noted the other day, Bill Kristol embarrassed himself (again) last week when he claimed on the pages of The New York Times that he couldn’t find a single instance where an eventual Presidential nominee lost by a primary by a 41%+ margin. The Old Gray Lady finally caught up with blogosphere and has issued a “correction” to Kristol’s column.

Correction: May 21, 2008

In his column on Monday, Bill Kristol said he could not find a recent primary in which the candidate who would go on to win the nomination lost by as big a margin as Barack Obama lost by (41 points) in West Virginia. Mitt Romney won the essentially uncontested Utah primary on Feb. 5 with about 90 percent of the vote.

Also, the California Supreme Court is based in San Francisco, not the state capital, Sacramento.

Jeremy Skurnik of RoomEight, the blogger who first caught Kristol’s error, isn’t satisfied with the dismissive apology. Read why here.

John Cole says it best:

I am noticing a trend here. Kristol claims government is inefficient, ineffective, and bad, gets a bunch of his buddies elected, and proves it. He also rails against the MSM, claims they can’t get their facts straight, gets a job at the NY Times, and proves it.

Is the Secret Service Investigating Liz Trotta and Fox News?

One of the questions the Secret Service should be asking is: Were Liz Trotta and FOX News criminally negligent in using the public airwaves to joke about threatening a presidential candidate?

Greatest Obama Quote Ever

In the new issue of Rolling Stone, Barack Obama gave perhaps the greatest quote in the history of democratic politics. The greatest sound bite. The best, most reassuring statement about how he will handle this presidential race. It reiterates my belief that this will be no 2004, no Willie Horton type of year. Obama will not be swiftboated.

It was not all about pop culture. When Mr. Wenner asked how Mr. Obama might respond to harsh attacks from Republicans, suggesting that Democrats have "cowered" in the past, Mr. Obama replied, "Yeah, I don’t do cowering."

As Randi Rhodes says, the news has been cancelled.   Of course she means TV News.  The actual journalism is mostly web-based these days.
