President Bush's "guest worker" proposal is not a new program but actually just an extension and codification of a visa guest worker program already in place that is rife with worker and human rights abuses that favors big business exploits immigrant unskilled labor and drives down wages and denies employment to U.S. workers. This program that amounts to human trafficking on the part of Big Business Corporate Interests as current labor and immigration laws are seldom if ever complied with or enforced and are flagrantly flaunting existing laws and regulations with impunity. It is doubtful that any new immigration legislation, should it ever be agreed on and passed by Congress and signed by the President, will be complied with or enforced with any more consistency as current laws and regulations that are already on the books. It is all political posturing on the part of elected officials to make it seem to the uninformed and misinformed public as if they are addressing the issue and problems. Talk about "smoke and mirrors"!!!

A federal judge last week awarded $1.9 million to 600 local Yakima Valley, Washington farm workers in compensation for illegal treatment by Global Horizons, one of the country’s largest labor contractors.
The judge found “undisputed evidence” that Global Horizons, contracting for two local growers, Valley Fruit Orchards and Acre Farms, violated six federal labor laws in their employment of Yakima Valley fruit orchard workers. These violations included firing workers for not meeting undisclosed productivity requirements, misleading workers about the piece-rates they would be given, and misinforming workers about available transportation options.
Even before the court ruling, Global Horizons lost its license to operate in the state of Washington because it deducted income tax from workers’ paychecks—in a state that has no income tax...
Every year some 120,000 unskilled workers are brought into the US with guest worker visas. They are granted stays for up to one year, which can be extended up to three years at the behest of employers...
