The only material you need to work a knot spell is a cord of some kind. Anything will do, but make sure it is long enough to hold all your knots and the material you use is natural. Pick the colour to match the intention of the spell. You can use your cord as it comes, but to add more of your own energy to the spell, you can also braid it before working the knots. The material needs to be fairly thin or the resulting cord will be too thick. You can mix the colours, to suit your needs. Make sure that the cord is long enough, as it will shorten considerably when braided. Concentrate on your intent as you braid your cord. Once the cord is ready, it's time to work the spell. Any purpose can be used , but spells that involve binding are more appropriate. Some examples might be: spells to stop bad habits, to keep emotions in check, to control an illness, or to secure a new job. A typical spell has nine knots, and the words spoken are shown below. You concentrate and focus your energy on your purpose, and repeat each line as you tie each and ever knot. Your magick will continue to work as long as the knots are tied. Once your intent has been achieved, you can dispose of the cord, DO NOT UNTIE the knots. By burning it and then burying the ashes. Then the spell is dead. A Traditional Nine Knot Spell
By the knot of one, the spell's begun By the knot of two, I make it true By the knot of three, so mote it be By the knot of four, the open door By the knot of five, the spell's alive By the knot of six, the spell is fixed By the knot of seven, by the earth and heaven By the knot of eight, by the stroke of fate By the knot of nine, the (insert intent) is mine The number of knots and the wording can be altered to suit your need

Sometimes we work a spell, or do something, which we cannot undo, words we cannot unsay. No matter, the energy is still floating, still causing damage. You can undo this negative energy with a knot spell.
Take a piece of white cord, about 12 inches long and tie three knots in it. As you tie each knot think of the situation, the act done or words said which now you want to undo. When you are done, lie the cord flat out on a surface and sprinkle blessed salt over it and begin to undo the knots and as you undo each say:
What I said will now be unsaid
What I did will now be undone.
When the knots are now unmade.
Will be the magick now be gone.
So mote it be.
Now light a white blessed candle and place the candle inside your cauldron or a heat resistant surface. VERY CAREFULLY lower the cord slowly into the flame and allow the cord to be completely burned. When done, gather the ashes of the cord and sprinkle outside. By moonlight if possible

By dripping the wax in a bowl of cold water and seeing what shape the wax has hardened into, then a reading can be seen.
You can use any color candle although darker colors show up better. It takes only a bit of imagination on the part of the seer to decypher the images which emerge from the bit of hot wax allowed to drop into the bowl of cold water.
This little poem by an author unknown ---describes how to tell by the flame.
Touch a light to the little wick, Watch it burn to the candlestick. Study with care the little blaze; Fortunes are told in its tiny rays.
If an unseen power makes it weak and low, For you it foretells a tale of woe. If that same power makes a blaze bright and healthy, You'll be happy and wise, be good and wealthy.
here are the meanings of the shapes of wax that may be seen by the hardened wax

When the candle has burnt itself out the spell is complete.
For the blessed salt, where would I get it? Could I bless it myself? I really want to do the knot spell to undo some things. I can feel the negative energy and it's been 6 years.
I am looking for a calming ritual/spell. Things have been hectic.
A friend of mine and I want to start a little business making and selling natural things. Is there a good spell for that? I'm sure there is but I have no idea
I always bless my own then I can tagret the blessing for the purpoae needed and for the Diety I wish to call upon. I have never found a blessing for salt anywhere. And I believe that magick is a pursonal art and as such it must be crafted by you, and you alone for it to work correctly for you
I don't always bless my salt since it depends on where I obtained it. I am luck in that living by the sea i can gather my own and as Neptune has already given his blessings to all that come from the sea, I just thank him for his gift. however if bought salt from a shop look at the packet and depending on where the product comes from one can send a thanks for the gift to the relevent Deity.
Meditarian - Posidion and Neptune, these are the only major water deities that come to my mind although there is a Roman goddess called Salacia. Salacia is the Roman goddess of the sea but more importantly salt so if in doubt ask for her blessing upon your salt.
Joanna's post reminded me about my love for Sage. We have several smuge bundles of sage around the house and it's about time for a good cleaning. I have picked up the most fragrant sage incesnce sticks from the local Whole Foods Market, they are covered with a sage sented resin and the entire house changes it's energy when we burn any kind of sage. I put a love/health/happy/protection spell over all the food that I cook while sprinkling sage in it, and since I haven't turned green yet I figure I'm ok....lol
Who else has an obsession with a spice/scent/earth tool?
On part of our property is sage that grows wild. Not the kind you eat but I do use it for smudging and so far nothing bad had come of it.

sage and other spices/herbs... May 18, 2007 11:04 AM
Lisa, it sounds like you're a kitchen witch
Have you read the book, Magickal Hearth? If not, you would probably really enjoy it - there's a recipe for Sabbat Sage Bread in it that I make at least once a year, even though I'm not much of a baker myself - it's just soooo good, and it's perfect for the Sabbats (thus the name... )
I love cooking with magickal herbs and spices, and infusing my dishes with their properties for myself and my family...
My favorite scent is lavendar, but thus far I have only found a recipe for a chicken dish with lavendar, and I no longer eat meat, so I won't be making that one! LOL
re:sage and other spices/herbs May 19, 2007 6:57 PM
OK you pulled me out of my lurk mode Melissa, who wrote Magickal Hearth? I tried to find it with just the title and couldn't find it. I would love to read it as I am a bit of a kitchen witch myself.
The most powerful magic I have used, and works every time!!!!
Positive thinking! The law of attraction, (Karma). The important element of this is to KNOW your desire to be so. It will not work if you wish, or think, or hope. See it manefest, and know.
I recently quit smoking, and I thought my friends cast a spell to help me. A few days after I stopped smoking I asked them what kind of spell they used. Both assured me they hadn't cast any spells. After our discussion, it occurred to me, that I had cast my own spell just by sending out positive energy. After 24 years of smoking, I quit without withdrawl, or help. Try it!!!
does anyone know if Parsely has any magickal uses. if so could you let me know. I have an abundant amount of it growing outside on my balcony alone with chives, mint and two other herbs that I can't recall their names. also does the bluebell have any magical properities since my little community garden has some and I hate to just remove it without knowing if it can be used for anything. The goddess has blessed me so I am able to return what she has given to me.

I can't agree more with Deb. The most powerful magick is the force of your intention. I cast a spell for work and money on New year's eve and it has worked incredibly:As soon a sthe year began I had lots of interviews,m phone calls, apporaches-and right now I have job that I like and I do well at,and money keeps coming in steadily: I have cast other job spells in the past, but I think the reason why this one worked so well is the enrgy and intention I put on it-I remember i felt it myself.
I too love Jasmine & Lavendar. I wear Jasmine essential oil and have jars of lavendar everywhere. I also love rosemary & sage! I can't walk past either of them in the garden without running my fingers over them & enjoying the smell. I finally broke down & bought 3 lavendar starts this year after trying unsuccessfully to grow it from seed. I'll have to plant them near the rosemary & sage!

I grow my own Lavender, it's a huge plant now and I will be separating it this fall. I make my own oil for bathing. I clip the fresh branch with the flowers still on it and put them in a bottle of baby oil. Great for when you need a calming bath or shower after a hard day. I rub it on while still wet then towel dry. Crawl into bed and la-la land comes quick.

The circle we use to protect us from harm while doing any workings can be cast anywhere and any time. All you need to do is know where the compass points are and using yourself as the centre point.
First visualise
East - a yellow light for Air.
South - red light for fire.
West - a blue light for water
and finally North - a green light for earth.
Now imagine all negativity bouncing off the outside of your circle and now your mind should be free to connect with uncontaminated higher realm.
I agree with the late Scott Cunningham when he said that you don't really need all the correct items to perform a spell or ritual. These items are only tools for focus. I find going out into Nature and setting my intent through the guidance of my totems and Spirit Guides, plus, if you pay attention, Nature will answer........However, I do like to smudge for clearing, and I can't resist crystals. I am a regular at our local crystal store and I love the energy they emit especially if I am depressed. I can go into the store and immediately my spirits are uplifted. Another tool I like to use is the pendulum to shift energy.........Oh, yes, I have an abundant collection of tarot cards, etc. The one set I recently bought that I recommend to everyone are the Hawaiian cards. Just touching them OMG! you feel their energy. I saw them advertised in the magazine, "Kindred Spirits"

Sandy I am just like you, when ever I walked into my local new age store the crystals would draw me to them &I would just have to touch them. If any stuck to my fingers I would buy them even if I didn't need it at the time but a few days (99% of the time) I would require them for something. Oh by the way I am very upset since my local store has closed down & I have to go to the next city if I need anything but I am sure the Great Mother will help me when I require something.
Raven you are quite right Magic is the self and I have always beleived that magick only works if you are the magick not the tools around you although Mother Nature (to me) has a wonderful knack of giving me something.
Now for those new to Magick each day of the week is dedicated to a certain deity bar Sunday and Monday so here how it goes:
Monday - the moon god or goddess can be invoked althought the moon itself is a deity. You can use the herbs/oils chamonile, eucalyptus, jasmine or lemon oil. Use the colours silver, white or indigo for any workings on this day.
Tuesday - this day is dedicated to the mighty war god Mars for workings reguarding the law & courage. Use the following oils or herbs ginger, High John the Conqueror & basil. Best colours for this day are reds and deep orange. Those who follow the Norse tradition would invoke Thor.
Wednesday - this is the day of the winged god Mercury since he is the god of travel and communications. Best oils or botanicals are lily of the valley, lemon grass or clover & the colour best used is yellow. This day was also the day of Woden a Norse god so if you are a follower of the Norse tradition this would the God you would invoke.
Thursday - the classical god Jupiter would be invoked on this day since he is a god of strength & power (Father God & sky lord). The oils or incense used on this day would be clove, honeysuckle, nutmeg or sage. Best colours used are gold, green & royal purple.
Friday - the day of Venus & Aphrodite as well as Freya all goddesses of different forms of love (passion, erotic and exotic) even Ishtar could be invoked on this day. The oils or incenses used would be musk, frangipani, rose, raspberry, ylang-ylang even jasmine could be used. The colours for this day are usually red or pink.
Saturday - the day of Saturn a father sky god who was originally an argricultural deity. The inceses used could be cypress or patchouli. The best colours for this day are purple, black, white or green.
Sunday - this day is devoted to the sun so goddesses like Sol or Saule might be invoked. Incense or oil used would be frankincense. Colours - gold, yellow or orange.
Please note that silver candles can represent the God on your altar where as gold ones represent the Goddess. This is useful if you don't own the appropriate image of the deity you are invoking. Also any of the above information is only a guideline not a must be use what ever feels right to you.
Bright Blessings and positive energy going your way.
Although we may come from different traditions they all have similarities and I think can be melded together. The tradition I follow is from the native beliefs of Turtle island. We use the sacred plant tobacco, putting our prayers into the tobacco then smoking it so that the prayers can go to the Creator. We do pray to all the worlds of Grandmother Earth- sacred minerals, sacred plants, sacred animals and sacred humans. As well as Grandfather sky, the sacred ancestors and the creator. If we need something then we ask spirits for their help, whether it is information, comfort or healing. Their are many worlds, and spirits who care about us. I don't so much do small rituals as many in the Wiccan and other traditions do, but I respect that way of working.
What I learned through the years is that your 'intent' is the most important part of the ceremony. If you have a strong desire and focus, spirit will hear you and answer you. Of course you have to be still to receive the answer. blessings, ann

White Candle spell for blessing July 24, 2007 7:53 AM
White candle spell for blessing
Get a white candle-either a plain one (offertory, pillar, or taper) or a figural one in the gender of the person you want to bless.
Carve the person's full name on the candle, then dress it with Blessing Oil or Holy Oil.
For more power, you may place a name-paper of the person, or a photo, or some personal item of theirs (such as a bit of hair or a snippet of clothing) either under the candle or next to it. One easy way to do this is to place the paper or personal concerns under an overturned saucer and put the candle on top of the saucer.
Burn a portion of the candle every day for seven days, pinching it out between burnings. As you light it each day, say this
[Name], may you be blessed May all good things come to you May nothing whatsoever harm you May your heart be light May your travels be safe May your health be good May your mind be sound May your friendships sustain you May you be blessed in every way
If you have a special request for this person (such as that they find a lover, get a good job, come home safely from a war, or whatever), just add it to the list.
Some people use a large pillar-type candle and keep it going for longer than seven days.
They may make a habit of burning such a candle every day-or once a week, on Sundays -- for as long as their friend or relative needs help, even doing so for months at a time.
If the candle is large and it is to be burned in this way, it should be re-dressed with Blessing Oil or Holy Oil once a week: after the initial dressing, you can drop a tiny bit of oil into the "well" or hole in such a large candle just before lighting it each time.
CATNIP: Catnip is ruled by the planet Venus and is therefore useful in love, beauty and happiness. One of the favorite uses is "cat magick." If you feed your cat some catnip, it will build a psychic bond between you and your cat. You can also make a pink sachet and fill it with catnip, to wear or carry to draw love to you. Growing some in your home will draw positive vibrations and good luck to you and your house. Catnip tea is also great for relaxing and sleep inducing.
CHAMOMILE: To get a good night's sleep, drink Chamomile tea. It is also used for luck and gambling when carried or worn in a green sachet.
CINNAMON: Cinnamon is a wonderful herb to either burn as an incense or make into a sachet. Fill a green or gold sachet with cinnamon to draw money & success or to use as a healing charm. Put in a purple sachet to increase your magickal and/or psychic abilities. A pink or red sachet of cinnamon can be worn, carried or placed under your bed to draw love or promote lust. Use a white sachet filled with cinnamon to increase spirituality & bring protection.
CLOVES: Their magickal powers include banishing evil, clearing your head, love, protection and money. Burn cloves as an incense to draw wealth & prosperity, drive away hostile & negative forces, produce positive spiritual vibrations & purify the area in which they are burned. Wear or carry cloves to draw members of the opposite sex, to you. Using cloves in your magickal spells is said to ensure that your magickal intention is realized.
EUCALYPTUS: It is the best healing herb & can be used for protection. Carry some of the leaves with you, for protection. To help in relieving cold symptoms, combine the oil with camphor oil.
FRANKINCENSE TEARS: Magickal properties similar to Myrrh. Use these beads to drive out negativity & enhance positive vibrations. Can be used on a charcoal disc, as an incense to help induce visions & aid in meditation. You can also make a sachet of white or purple, to carry for spiritual growth and protection. Primarily used as a base for herbal incenses.
LAVENDER FLOWERS: Wonderful for use in love spells, lavender is an all-purpose herb. It can be sprinkled around the home to bring peacefulness & burned as an incense to help with sleep. Lavender has also been used for protection, chastity, longevity, purification & happiness.
MUGWORT: Used to induce psychic awareness either as a tea or incense. Make a weak tea to use to clean crystal balls and scrying mirrors. Placed beside the bed, mugwort is also useful in astral travel. Other magickal uses are for strength, protection, healing & prophetic dreams.
MYRRH: Wonderful herb for spirituality, either used with Frankincense or alone. Also good for protection, healing & exorcism. Burn as an incense to purify an area or use to purify and consecrate magickal items. Use with Frankincense in herbal mixtures or to enhance it's properties.
PEPPERMINT: Peppermint is a wonderful healthful tea, also aiding in increasing psychic awareness. (Drink before reading the Tarot, Runes, etc.) May also be used to help with psychic visions and helping with sleep. Sprinkled around the home, peppermint will aid in purification.
ROSEBUDS & PETALS: These are wonderful for use in spells to draw love...use red for passionate love, pink or white for romantic or true love.
For those whose crafting leans toward the fabric arts, you may be wondering what you can do magically with your crafting abilities. There are many things, one of which is the Magickal Quilt.
Traditionally thirteen rows of thirteen squares; this can be modified to any magically significant (to you) number of rows and squares. Multiples of three, five, and seven are usually good ones.
For example: A quilt for attracting good fortune could be 21 rows of 14 squares each. (Or 14 rows of 7 squares, depending on how big you make your squares and how big you want your quilt. It could be of green and gold, as these colors are readily associated with money, growth and expansiveness.
If you like, you could add symbolic stitchery to each square, or just some squares. You could also sew in pockets for herbs, charms, etc... stitch chants, spells or blessings into the fabric... perhaps (if your goal were monetary) even sew a coin into each corner of the quilt.
You could create quilts for many magickal purposes; some are listed here for your inspiration:

When traveling by plane, boat, or train, luggage can be misplaced. Put a spell bag of comfrey root and oregano in your luggage to ensure it will arrive when you do. Carrying a piece of moldavite (green translucent meteorites) or turquoise protects travelers. A spell bag containing feverfew can ward against sickness or accident during travel. Copper bracelets are said to aid against motion sickness. Make a mixture of salt, pine needles, and lavender to spread on the floor in hotel rooms to draw away negativity and the energy from former occupants. This mix will not set off the smoke alarms as smudge might.
Our collective focus now turns to new beginnings. To strengthen your focus on a new goal, select a card from your favorite tarot deck that symbolizes your desire. If it's an increasing or attracting goal, choose a night during the waxing Moon to cast this spell. If it's a decreasing or releasing intention, choose a night during the waning Moon. Light a white candle. Place your tarot card in front of you. On a clean piece of paper write down your goal three times, and place it in your wallet ( or someplace where it will be with You most of the time). Place the tarot card on your altar. When the goal is achieved, burn the paper and return the card to your deck.
Starry nights and brilliant days, Protection bless us, And fill this space.
May those we love gather in strength, And unify at times of strife. We call upon the Cosmos of which we are a part, May we flow with you and make a start.
Winds of night, Blow softly and upon all beneath. Waters of the sea, Protect us as we bathe in your healing deep.
Fires of the earth, Warm us without harm. Bring energy and not disaster.
Earth beneath our feet, Stay solid and true, As we move upon your ground.
May we be granted The blessings of long life. May the heavens smile upon us, Every day of our long, full lives.
May the wisdom of the ancients, Visit us in our dreams, And fill our waking time.
By the power of the bear, May there be strength in our actions.
By the vision of the hawk, May our sight be ever sharp. By the grace of the cat, May our bodies and spirits be lithe.

You need to find out the colour of the day and the incense of the day...
Color of the day: Incense of the day:
Gather together a potato and two pennies. Cut the potato in half and carve a circle in the middle of each half large enough to hold a penny. Around the pennies carve the name of the project to which you’d like to give energy. Put the potato pieces back together, and on the night of the New Moon bury the potato in a place where it will not be disturbed. As you bury the potato, say the following:
As the New Moon rises, all things will renew. I charge this battery with new resolve! My plans will now come true!
Picture the energy of the potato battery recharging your own energies and giving new excitement to your project.
