Yes, knowledge is power, and I think the more we know about the impact humans are having on this planet, the more we can help matters.

Please feel free to post videos here as well.  Occurrences such as Katrina will help to shed more light on the urgency of much needed improvements.

Houses are springing up faster than folks can fill them, and the developers are mowing down massive amounts of wooded acres to put up HUGE homes, which in turn takes more energy to heat and cool, thereby creating a horrendous cycle of energy use.

The world's population is out of control, and we're stripping more and more forrested and pristine land and waters to make our own selves more comfortable, not realizing that we may be making ourselves comfortable now, but what horrors does the future hold for our decendants?  And what about the animals?  None of us have any other place to go if we continue to rape, poison, and kill this planet.

We should consider this planet our home, and treat it as if our lives depended on its health and well being (since it does).  Every single living thing on this earth, as well as our air and waterways should be treated with respect, as without all of these we are nothing. The health of this planet depends upon us all, and it's time the leaders of all nations start being less greedy and more in tune with the needs and rights of Earth's inhabitants.

I have always believed that we are here to care for the flora and fauna, not exploit them.   Try to teach my children, their children and anyone else I can 'corner' to understand this also.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Thanks and bravo Billie:

Bright idea of creating and/or inviting all those who love animals with passion! I believe that in general someone who cares about animals also needs to care about their environment.

From 2000 to 2002 I fought with all my strenghts to save a watershed from clearcut. This watershed is in 600 acres of old growth forest in Vancouver Island and is the home of bears, cougars, raccons, rabbits, beavers, otters, ravens, eagles, gueese, blue herons, crabs, and many other little friends. My group and I finally won the battle and the 33 acres designed to be clercut were finally left alone. Another parcel is now under attack because evil always comes back.

However, from this experience I learned that to fight in this kind of wars we need to be a real slayer; the Ministry of Forest's employees were a very ugly kind of demons.

Heaven will protect us in the name of good and will help us fight against the power of $$$$$

Nice meeting you all!

I saw a special the other night on The Weather Channel, that was talking about how endangered the Everglades are becoming.  They said the Everglades were one of the largest watersheds in the US at one time, but now they're only a tiny sliver that will most likely disappear if things don't change.  This hurts us AND the little critters (and big ones) that once inhabited them.

What was once a massive watershed, has been mowed down to make room for homes.

Oh yeah, and one more thing....., according to some geographical scientists, New Orleans is located where a massive watershed for the mighty Mississippi used to be!

Hello group February 18, 2007 12:16 AM

Rosemary, Thank You for the invitation. Directly behind my house 20 years ago use to be a cornfield. It has been allowed to revert back to it's natural wetland state. Now I am able to watch turkey's, pheasants, cranes, hawks, eagles, and coyotes. Each day is a feast to the eye! I love wildlife in the wild.

Thanks! February 25, 2007 1:05 PM

Thank you for inviting me Billye! Lately I have been thinking more and more about Global Warming and what we all can do to help slow this process down. I watched Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore and was so taken by it, I cried afterwards. I went toi the website and found I already do alot of the little things to help, but this really upsets me. Even my husband watched it and was really taken by it. We talk to others alot about the effects, and I know I always tell people some of the simple things they can do to help.

I just really need a group about htis right now.

welcome, fran! February 26, 2007 9:43 AM

and you're right, it will take everyone pulling together and doing all of those little things if we are going to change this.  the best part is, when you educate someone about the little things they can do, they will look for other things, and they will pass the word on to others.  [ send green star]

anonymous Advance our agenda April 26, 2007 8:26 AM

If you do any online shopping, please don't leave money on the table that could go to charities. I have deals with over 1500 merchants (Staples, Amazon, etc) to contribute to a basket of the best charities that serve the Arts, Animals, Education, Health, Humanity or the Planet.  Please go to www.clickshopsupport.org and click the cause you want to support.  When you shop this way, each store has agreed to donate up to 25% to a basket of the best charities determined by an independent third party, Charity Navigator.  It won't cost you an extra dime, and in many cases you will save money using the exclusive coupons they offer.

Make these merchants step up to their responsibilities.   This is a concrete way to make the world a better place for us and generations to come.

Please let me know how you liked the shopping experience, and how I can improve this site to attract more people to shop with a conscience.  Please forward this to all your friends on Care2.  You can use the Referral Blaster on the site to let your non-Care2 friends know about this.  There is also a safe shortcut you can download that will sit on your desktop that will always take you directly to this marketplace.

Let’s start to feel good about where we spend our money!

One small mention is not bad, but anymore than that will have to be deleted.

I told Janet that I would make some rules and guidelines for this group, and I think I better get on that soon, eh.

Not many of you know that my sister died on April 10th after a long battle with Type II Diabetes. Her death hit me and the rest of the family extremely hard, even more than we thought it would. However, I've slacked too much, and need to get back with the program! It does no one any good to let yourself get too far down after a tragedy.

I appreciate you guys holding down the fort through this most difficult time. I'm way behind on most everything, and my mom and I are still sorting through Paulette's belongings. So I hope to be around more often, and I'll get those rules and guidelines up before long (I hope).

Thanks again,

BJ

Thanks for the invite Collen.  We are responsible of all creation.  Free choice is our gift, but many dont know that there is only one way to live peacefully , inharmony with everything that goes with the flow.  Moving oppossite to the flow is strugle and leads to self destruction.  It is up to us.  Thanks to pleople like all of you i started to believe in humanity again, there is hope.  Thanks.

My name is leo, i am from puerto rico, where 3 different cultures fusion to become one, puertoricans.

Hi All May 24, 2007 4:04 PM

Thanks to colleen o.  for the invite.  I do hope by Enviromental Integrity this group means to address more than just animal welfare, but also the trees, plants and the land that supports them.

tree seasons  I do not believe in harming any living thing, but the poisoning of the land, air and water is still a crime against nature and needs our voices too.

Where there is life there is hope

welcome, leo and davida! May 27, 2007 7:54 AM

like billye, my own life has been consuming a majority of my time and attention. i am hoping to get "back into the groove" now that things have settled down.

clearly, many of us here have an exceptional love for animals, but it's not the only focus of the group.  sometimes, by preserving the planet, we help the animals; at other times, preserving the animals helps the planet.  we all are, ultimately, one, and inexorably intertwined.

Welcome eveybody!!!

Right now with the political stuff going on, and many members having family stuff going on, we haven't had much time to frequent the group. But things will hopefully pan out soon.

If anyone feels like they want to become a cohost to help out Janet and I, please feel free to speak up or send me a network message.

Thanks!
