 October 20, 2009 7:00 AM

awwww, that is so cute!

catresea mentioned paypal. is cafepress accepting paypal this year?

 [ send green star]

From what I have read... October 20, 2009 7:43 AM

CafePress used to but dropped it for a very good reason..
PayPal takes out 3% in fees...
so actually we'd make even less of a profit...
Taking donations through PayPal costs us LOTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS of money a year....
(enough to spay/neuter Dozens of kitties!)...
I just found out there is a place when you make a donation to
check that it a gift..that way the donor pays the PP fee...
not sure where that space is that you need to check off or if it shows up in Chipins...
maybe someone who donates can clue us in...!

 [ send green star]

 October 20, 2009 7:53 AM

I don't think it is a possibility for chipins, though I am certainly not the last word on this.

When I make Paypal donations "by hand" (logging onto the PP website and entering the email of the recipient), one can click on a Personal tab and then click the Other button, you do get that option, at least for some recipients.

 [ send green star]

Andrew...Are you able to do it for WCR? October 20, 2009 8:01 AM

wondering if we need to change something on our end...
(and I hope it's easy...believe me...getting a straight answer from PP is nearly impossible)....

 [ send green star]

 October 20, 2009 9:03 AM

I just checked. Yes, I am given that option if I log into PayPal at the website, designate SpaldingUrgents@hotmail as the reciptient, move to the Personal tab (clicking away from the Purchase tab), and check the Other option box. The payment detail and confirmation page then has a box to check designating whether I will pay the fee or whether it will be deducted from the amount sent.

I do think the idea of the chipins - being able to see the donations reach the goal - is very good and probably increases donations quite a bit. On the other hand, they can be frustratingly slow to update. And their habit of ending several hours before their stated deadline is brutal. Many people donate at the last minute, and you probably lose many of those donations.

Cafepress seems to have put our calendars on sale.... October 22, 2009 6:26 AM

the 29.99 ones for $25...& the smaller ones for $18!
They never notified me so not sure how long this will last.but eveidently it doesn't effect our profit...
this is a great time to buy them!

It seems you have to do a search on CP for cat calendars..ours October 22, 2009 6:31 AM

will come up...click on it for sale price...
if you log in directly to our store it does not come up as a sale price....
goofy and confusing!

 [ send green star]

 October 22, 2009 7:29 AM

Thanks for the heads-up! That is a substantial saving!

 [ send green star]

Have no idea how long it lasts..waiting to hear from cafeP.. October 22, 2009 11:08 AM

and it's possible it's just some kind of goof on their part...
no idea....

 [ send green star]

 October 22, 2009 1:00 PM

Wow!  Thanks for letting us know about the savings!  It made me figure out my shopping list and place my order.

Does anyone want to receive a coupon for $5 off a purchase of $50 or more?  CafePress offers this deal after someone places an order.  (There's probably a minimum amount required of the original buyer, but I don't know.)

If you'd like to receive an email from CP with the coupon, please email me at cboyse@lib.nmsu.edu.  The catch is that I will be leaving work at about 4:30 Mountain Time this afternoon and I will lose the CP page for sending them email addresses, so I need to hear from you soon.

Susan, thank you for creating these fabulous works of art!

 [ send green star]

OK here's the scoop (and I'm NOT happy: October 22, 2009 6:25 PM

CafePress new policy :
THEY have set the retail Price when purchasing from their Marketplace.
In other words, the calendar WCR sells for $29.99 They sell for
$25.
If you buy it from CafePress marketplace: i.e. by doing a search for
cat calendars it costs $25 & WCR get's $2.50.
If you buy it dirctly through the WCR store: i.e:
http://www.cafepress.com/smpab
it costs $29.99 and WCR makes $11
which, without tooting my own horn, I must say, after spending
180 hours on it is not much to make but we were fine with that.
SO....
Re:The orders that were placed today:
Want to make the point that those that took advantage of it,
I AM THRILLED!!! Because you that did have funded a zillion kitties ...so don't misunderstand my obvious gruntle...

The promo bulletin I made lists the WCR store so we should be fine raising at least what we did last year...

anyway....I wrote CP a letter but I'm sure you can't fight City Hall...uhhhhhhhhhhh...I mean Cafe Press...

 [ send green star]

 October 22, 2009 6:48 PM

That is a fairly obnoxious policy to undercut their own clients. There really should be a way to opt out of that possibility.

 [ send green star]

It's not fair to the buyers if some get one price and others get October 23, 2009 5:47 AM

another price...
there are bound to be angry buyers who will think our store is ripping them off and will no doubt contact me...
I'm in retail and know that people react like that...
and it's not fair to us to make such a small profit...it's not even worth selling...
I am going to try to open a ZAZZLE store also...very similar..
but of course that is going to take hours and hours...
but it can't hurt to have at least the Calendars in both places..
I just hope the quality is as good...CP quality is superb!
will keep everyone updated!

 [ send green star]

 October 23, 2009 9:59 AM

Yeah, I'm an angry buyer, but ONLY at CP.  How dare they??  How cheesy of them.  Here I'm trying to be a cheapskate and they scam my favorite group in the whole world!  The good news is that I got in gear and did a little Christmas shopping (this is probably a new record for me for earliness).

To make up for CP foiling my plans to support WCR, I PayPal'd a "for anything" donation.  Hope it helps.

Hugs to you, Susan.  You're a truly wonderful person.

I checked into Zazzle.... October 25, 2009 8:21 AM

The 17" calendar is out of stock...
and the smaller size is different dimensions than the CP one so it would take alot of work to have my designs fit...
I will keep checking on the bigger one...
meanwhile, we will be fine selling strictly from our CafePress store...
and Carol:
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUMPING - this topic back up - ORDER NOW so you can get your calendars in time for Christmas...and you will need those cute greeting cards even faster so you have time to mail out!

 [ send green star]

 Tuesday, 3:36 PM

last year i gave a couple of the wcr ornaments as christmas gifts and of course kept one for myself which has never been put away. it has hung on one of the knobs of a glass enclosed shelved bookcase of knickknacks. perhaps they aren't a big enough seller to make more in different designs but at least give it some thought... perhaps a collection series with the year that particular one was first sold (either visible on the front or hidden on the back) featuring a rescued kitty on it for the year the ornament with that design was first put out. then after several years you could sell a collection of several - one of each year - as as a single item. i don't know but i think the idea has possibilities since many people like to collect certain items including cat items and/or christmas ornaments.

this is an example (very rough draft) of what i am suggesting. susan, think about it. it may or may not be a good or feasible suggestion. but i thought i may as well mention the idea.

Darlene...LOVE that idea...& your design is really great! Thursday, 5:53 PM

I will try to whip something up...and maybe even put yours on one...
will be a busy few days here for me...I work every single day
from now till xmas.....

 Thursday, 8:06 PM

Susan,

i didn't mean this year, it's too close to christmas and you work, manage things with WCR and surely have your own personal things to attend to. i didn't want to make you feel rushed to accomodate my request. i was thinking more like next year which could give you a head start.

besides, it seems more balanced to start a yearly series with with 2010 rather than 2009.

i don't presently have an art program, i think it may have been paint dot com that sent my computer back to sony for repairs.

i thought 64 bit system meant it was better than 32 bit but i've changed my mind. never again!

anyway, if you actually look at the one i did as an example, gail got pretty well hacked up in spots. it was the best i could do with what i had access to  (quick screen capture, yahoo mail photo program on yahoo, blingee and photo bucket).

never will there ever be an art program as simple yet superb results as adope photo deluxe home edition. but unfortunately adobe quit updating it several versions of windows ago and it made newer versions of windows unstable.
