isis... sorta hard to tell on my laptop but i am assuming that isis basically has the calico colors. however, they aren't separate and distinct, more sorta blended, especially her brown and black. is there a term for this type of coat? it looks to me what might be called dilute but i'm probably wrong. she sure is a pretty cat!

below is a calico, one that looks similar to isis and another one that actually might be dilute? would anyone care to enlighten me?

Darlene - Im very sorry but I have no clue also! But I'd very much like to know as well. At the same time I never understood the difference between calico and tortie.

I think of Calicos as having large splotches of black and orange on a white background, with the colors distinct and separate. Torties have blended black and orange coats.  Isis looks to be a Tortie, but with white added.

They're both beauitful kitties, let's get em funded! I love the Egyptian names

Not that I am any expert on this color discussion But when I am putting on PF if they have white then I put as Calico...no white is Torti...

Now for the Dilute vs regular...the black/orange/brown coloring is the regular Calico(if has large areas of white) or Tortie(no white or very minimal)

If it is more of a Gray color instead of black then it is Dilute...

Isis is definitely more Dilute Calico with Medium Hair

Olympus on the other fundraiser is really more Tortie but with litte white socks and chest which is cute...

Oh and widget is started at $40...

Just FYI - November 04, 2009 10:45 AM

If anybody is interested - The International Cat Association has a neat site with the "official" coat colors and patterns.  It has pictures!!

Its interesting to see what they are calling different cats -

thanks for the info! my only experience with dilute has been with fancy pigeons many years ago. i knew very little about genetics but what i learned was from experienced pigeon breeders. every so often the thought would hit me "i wonder if white on a cat is masking color like it does with pigeons. now i know! in my above post i had originally used the word red instead of brown and thinking i must have picked that up from when i had pigeons i switched the red to brown. the red in pigeons is very similar to the red in a calico cat.

my main breed was the indian fantail pigeon as below. i had some reds and red saddles such as these but i don't remember having any red tailmarks. i did have black tailmarks.

we only need $40 now.

that would be 40 people with $1

or 20 people with $2

or 10 people with $4

or 8 people with $5

or 5 people with $8

or 2 people with $10

or 1 person with $40

but please don't feel uncomfortable if you donate $1 or $3 or $6 or $7 or $9 or any amount between $11 and $39. unless you are sitting on your cat... then i hope you do feel uncomfortable but not because of your donation. nobody wants a flat cat!
