The fourth major category of ESP shown in the Cayce readings is retrocognition, the ability to see past events. For example, in the life readings (those readings which dealt with the soul) Cayce would often repeat aloud significant happenings in a person's life while going back over the years until the date of the person's birth. In one reading, he said, "1935-'32-disturbing periods-'31-'36-'26-not any too peaceful!" etc. (1650-1). In another life reading (1462-1), Cayce was given the incorrect date and location of birth for a young girl. In going back over the years he responded with, "We don't find it here". (He had been incorrectly told that the child was born on January 24, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio). Then, after a short pause, he finally said, "Yes, we have the record here (looks like it's the wrong place and date)." It was later discovered that the girl had been born on January 23 (a day earlier) in New York City and not in Cleveland.

A third category of ESP is precognition, the ability to view events before they happen. Many of us have had the experience called déjà vu; for example: you might be having a conversation with a friend and, all at once, be absolutely positive that you've had the exact conversation before. You may even know what your friend is going to say next. The Cayce readings suggest that one explanation for this phenomenon is that our dreams often foreshadow future events. Such precognitive dreams may be forgotten and onlydimly felt at those times as déjà vu experiences. There are countless examples of precognition in the files of the Cayce material. In many readings for children, Cayce foresaw what they would be like as adults, even going so far as to describe hidden talents and occupational decisions. There are also other examples of this precognitive ability. When completing a reading for one woman in New York, Cayce suddenly started giving a reading for a woman in Missouri, although no one had solicited it. Her request for help, dated the day after he had volunteered the information (5700-6), did not arrive until after his response had already been mailed. Cayce also predicted the stock market crash (900-425) more than six months before it occurred and foresaw the outbreak of World War II. He knew that he would die before his two sons returned home from overseas.

The Readings' Approach to ESP and Psychic Phenomena.
The story of Edgar Cayce's life is filled with examples of what this extra sense of communication is like. His ability to give readings in the sleep state could be labeled ESP because he somehow knew information that he had never studied, and he could see people and places and events without using his physical sight. Hello there. I work for the A.R.E. and am responsible for maintaining this official profile and our other social profiles on the Web. In answer to some of the questions here, yes the meditation room is still open and heavily in use. There is a staff meditation daily at noon, but anyone is welcome to come up.

The daily lectures and tour are still free. There are a number of other activities that go on here during the week. Many request only love donations since they come from outside sources. The membership fees cover the cost of production of the Venture Inward magazine and our monthly newsletters.

There are still a few people around here who once knew Cayce. Notably his son Edgar Evans Cayce, who was here last week for the dedication of the Gladys Davis Turner Classroom.

Your right it would be nice to hear from someone who knew him unfortunately I was born a year before he died but I did meet people who knew him when he was living,,like his son.

The last time I was in Va. Beach was in 1995 and the hospital building as I recalled wasn't done over as I see it in this video.

Unfortunately with dial up it takes me so long to watch a video so I generally don't watch them unless I have the time to spend waiting for it to load.

I can tell you a bit about what A.R.E. was like in the early seventies .Basicly it was a place where people interested in metaphsic's used to come .People interested in the after-life,reincarnation,the meaning of dreams,alternative medicine and psychic phenomina .Mostly those involved in the new age movement.

I became interested in A.R.E. when a woman I met in Virginia who used to lecture on metaphsics told me about Edgar Cayce and A.R.E. It changed my whole staunch Catholic belief system and opened up my mind to not only other religions,,especially eastern religions,, but it also gave me a better understanding of reincarnation and its purpose.Which I must say made much more sense than what I was taught in church and Catholic school.

I was hoping they would show the meditation room on the top floor of the main building I hope its still there .

The white building in the back where evidently they teach massage therapy at now used to be the old hospital and Edgar Cayce's residence years ago .They sure fixed that place up a lot !

I have a lot of his Cayces's books in fact I was just looking in one of them today to find out something on peanut oil massages formy sisters husband who has neuropathy.

I don't know if your aware that Cayce's readings on the bible and Christ came much later in his readings. He was reluctant to do these readings when it was first suggested to him that he should .I think it was because he was afraid that his own religious beliefs might shade his readings.

Cayce's earlier days were spent doing readings for sick people some of them he never took money for these readings or very little .He was never in it for the money,,he was in it to try to help people .

I have to admit that after reading all about Cayce's life work and the kind of man he was I have to wonder if he would have approved of his foundation becoming so commercialized .I think his son Hugh Lynn seemed to keep more in line with his fathers ideals.

Wow ! I have sat on the sidelines reading the posts and today I was shocked to see how the Edgar Cayce foundation has gone so commercial on the net.

I lived in Virginia years ago when Edgars son Huge Lynn Cayce was president of the association and  I visited the A.R.E. several times and went to their lectures,used their meditation room and the library all for free .

While they always had a membership fee for anyone who wanted to join the association they never charged anyone for sitting in on lectures and using the facility .

I hope you can still do this now ?
