Sorry JoAnna, was going to start a new discussion about Kangaroos for Bernadette, but wasn't sure whether to or not, as there are already so many threads going.
dianne
Bernadette, just to let you know about some of the creatures at Australia Zoo - too many to name, but here are some - please ask if you don't know about them.....
Bettong, Camels ,Cheetahs, Dingoes, Echidnas, Elephants, Foxes , Kangaroos, Koalas, Lemurs, Possums, and Gliders ,Red Panda, Rhinoceros, Tamarins, Tasmanian Devils, Tigers,Wallabies, Wombats: Cormorants and Darters, Exotic Parrots, Finches, Honeyeaters ,Ibis, Kingfishers ,Native Parrots, Pittas , Raptors, Ratites ,Stone-curlews ,Storks and Cranes: Boas and Pythons, Crocodilians, Lizards ,Tortoises, and Turtles, Venomous Snakes.
They also now run whale watching tours on Steves Whale One , out from Mooloolaba to look for the Humpback whales, and anything else might be seen on the day - like dolphins, sea turtles, sharks, stingrays, and lots of birds.
Hi,
best information about the Koala is on the" Lets Talk about the Koala "thread in this group. Their main diet is one particular type of eucalypt gum leaves, but they can eat and survive on many others, so there is no problem with them running out of food EXCEPT on Kangaroo Island, where they are eating themselves out of food, as there are no predators on this small island, and no disease, no man, no cars etc, so they are breeding and surviving and eating, and not giving the trees time to regrow the leaves - some of the koalas are being rehomed in other parts of australia where their numbers are diminishing, due to urbanisation, bushfires, and disease.
Re other animals that Steve and his family have helped , see the new thread on The Wildlife Hospital - I will post new info on that from time to time, so let me know if you have any queries from that.
Hello to Nyack, another newby! Can anyone tell me what that big cuddly animal is that Steve is holding? Wow. Must weigh about 50-60 lbs. What a beauty!

G'day everyone. I have to thank JoAnna for giving me the link to this great group.
I spent a year in Australia when I was 20-21 (over 40 years ago!) so I understand a little about the land Steve grew up to love so much. But of course, his love for animals was not confined to just one country. When I think of him, I simply cannot believe he is no longer with us as I feel his vibrant energy and enthusiasm, and in my mind's eye... can see his big smile and excitement over every little thing in life. I cannot see him as a man who EVER slept in in the morning... there was always so much to see and do in life.
That was an awesome birthday arrangement that you made for Terri, Jo. Beautifully done. This looks like a terrific group that I had to become a part of to keep tabs on what's happening with Steve's legacy and family.
New Members /Hello And Welcome To S.I.R. With Love !! July 14, 2009 10:58 AM
I'd like to welcome our two newest members Dianne M and Daffy To S.I.R. With Love!! We are so honored to have you with us and look forward to getting to know you!! If you have any stories about Steve or his family you'd like to share with us, we'd love to hear them, however short or long they may be. Just as a reminder, this is a "Los Vegas" kind of group; what's shared here stays here so "no worries, mate!"
