Good morning friends.  We are getting remnants of your cold weather here in the islands.  Of course, it is nothing like what you are experiencing, but for a tropical creature like me, it is very cold.  At night, with all the windows closed, we need to use blankets and it feels as if you had an air conditioner on the high setting.  Even my dogs are using sweat shirts, lol.  Have a great day

Well, I lost my "shorts" at the casino! LOL!  Didn't lose much $$ as I never take a credit card with. Don't really gamble much, but I do like to go maybe once a year.

I've got most of my shopping done, just a few little odds n' ends left--like stocking stuffers. Yes, I still stuff a stocking for my 24 yr. old daughter!

It sounds as though everyone is very busy.  Here too, just not enough hours in the day. 

AldiLa we have had the same weather as you and this morning it was freezing rain.  It has warmed up a bit and it is melting.  My yard is a mess.  I have not posted about it because it is so frustrating but my roof/siding is not completed yet.  ARGGG!  We had nine guys here yesterday putting up sheet insulation and tearing of the old siding and when they left I just wanted to cry at the mess they made of everything.  They indicated they will be done by the 23th, needless to say no lights outside it looks so barren.  Ok I will quit whining now, I have a warm home and I am indeed grateful for that. 

Oh by the way as you know I live in MI and we are becoming a lot like Vegas we have Casinos all over MI.  I hope you have good luck.  I think they are hurting because of the economy and so jackpots are hard to come by. 

None of my daughters will be here for Christmas this year   so we will have our gathering after Christmas.

Olga, working at the post office this time of year has to be very stressful indeed! I mailed all of my Christmas packages right before our Thanksgiving, 11/25. The lines were long even then!

Thanks for the sunshine Jennie . .it seems to have warmed things up a bit as it is in the 30's now. Freezing rain & all the snow has just about melted. The streets are an ice rink right now.

Jean, will your daughter be coming home for Christmas this year? Because I only have the one child, I always dread the thought of her moving far away. I think I would have to follow her wherever she goes. Poor thing, she'll never get rid of me!

I'm having my lazy day today Olga . . will go to a casino in Milwaukee, Wisconsin later today. Going to wear my lucky motorcycle boots! Would love to win the jackpot and buy all new kitchen appliances--I have them all picked out already! LOL!

It's the freezin' season here it MI too.  We had quite a storm with high winds and blowing snow.  It is bitter cold here.  Not the kind of weather for outdoor activities unless your a child and they do not seem to mind.

We are busy with preparation for Christmas, and yes AldiLa I would send you some goodies.

Oh, it's sooooo cold here in Chicago .. I'm so very jealous of your weather Jennie! Winds gusting 45 mph . . a high of 8 with windchills -10 today. It's very hard to go out into this weather, scrape your windows and freeze your way off to work. Alas, that is exactly what I now am going to do!

How fun that you met friends from Care2 Jean! I've only done that once & it was very recent. Met a lady that I've been friends with here on Care2 for 5 years. She had a 2-hour layover at the Chicago airport!

Olga, I love spicy wine, 80's music & shopping! That trip sounds like so much fun . . oh wouldn't I just love to do that with you some day!

Good Monday to everyone.  It has been a very busy week-end for us as we had friends from Care2 in our home for lunch yesterday and it was awesome to finally put a face on these these wonderful folks.  I wish we could all get together at some central location and really get to know each other.

Olga sounds as though you had a great time, shopping and drinking wine, unfortunately no one does that where I live.  Guess I could bring my own in a travel mug. LOL

We are going to the "one of a kind show" a The Merchandise Mart today. There are over 500 artisans at this show and I'm hoping to find some awesome Christmas gifts for friends and family there today. My BF was going to be in the show, but the $1500 booth fee was a little too steep!

How lucky you are AldiLa and Jean! I love the snow but in the last few years snow arrives sooo late...not as it was before and often it does not stay only for 2-3 days.

Yes, great that weekend is here but it run sooo fast...

I hope you are all enjoying Thanksgiving if you celebrate this holiday and if not, will count your blessings and pray for those who are less fortunate.

Well, we did not cook lobster today. Instead, we decided to help out at a local diner that opens it's doors every Thanksgiving for 30+ years now and offers free Turkey meals.

Turned out they had plenty of help, so we just supported that restaurant and paid for our meals today. Beleive it or not, I'm not a fan of turkey, so I had a gyros and a bowl of avgolemeno (a greek soup of lemon chicken & rice)

Just a peaceful late afternoon now, going to watch a movie in a bit "hannah & her sisters". It's a Thanksgiving movie, an old one.

Good morning all! Yes, Aldi is a grocery store here too. Apparently, this dog was found all mangy & hungry behind the Aldi grocery store, so the rescue people named him Aldi!

Many European countries have the tradition of putting up the tree on Christmas Eve, in fact--raised by my German Mother, that is what we did growing up.

It's nice to have the tree up for longer though .. I really like having it up for Thanksgiving. Speaking of which, does your country celebrate Thanksgiving? If so, what are everyone's Thanksgiving plans?

My daughter is driving to St. Louis, Missouri for Thanksgiving . Her BF's family is there. She will be home for Christmas though! My Mom is not feeling well . . doesn't feel well enough to travel the 2 hours to come to my house, nor does she feel well enough to host any sort of a dinner.   I guess it will be must my BF, Jeff and I. We are not that fond of turkey though, and at this point, I think we will have lobster with bernaise sauce! LOL!

This afternoon, I'm actually meeting a friend from Care2 at the O'Hare airport! She is coming back from a cruise with her husband and lives in Canada. I've been friends with her here at Care2 for 4 years and we've never met, so I'm excited!

Jean, yes, days run sooo fast...i agree, so good to try out new tastes and reciepes but not easy to translate well from hungarian and the ingrediants are aslo different..maybe similair but different.

My daughter is coming over this afternoon with her BF and her little dog "Chani". Jeff has made a wonderful pot of Avgolemono soup and is cooking seafood pasta for dinner. It smells wonderful in our home!

AldiLa it sounds as though your doing a lovely job of decorating for the holidays.  You inquired as to whether my girls do the cookie thing, once in a while they do, but they all work full time and in some cases two jobs.  I still try to do some cookie making with my grans but my kitchen is so small it does not allow for many group things.  Life was so much more simple when my girls were growing up.  I miss the old ways.

Getting started on my holiday decorating today. I'm washing my Christmas bedding. On my bed I put white flannel sheets with red christmas trees & a red duvet, and in the guest bedroom I put beige snowman sheets with an evergreen duvet.

Jean, do your children now keep up the tradition and bake cookies with their children? When my daughter was little, I always put a small tree in her bedroom too. If you have small children, they just love having their own tree!

Jean, this year we decided again that we will not buy big things to eachothers only kids will recieve little more. As adult we can appreciate the extra quality foods, drinks, pampering, decoratons and such...we closed out the money a little...or we try to not spend money for gifts. Of course nobody can stand to buy that some little cute something....This year i shall let it for the last weeks i think, in the open air advent market i used to find what i like and fun to walk in the light, drinking hot wine or punch...my sons also adore that mood....

in conclusion: i do not really shopping for Christmas.

aaannnd...my Grandma will be 80 (if God help us) on 27 dec...and we organize a party to her in a nice restaurant...i think to be together like on a wedding is the greatest thing, we are excited and hardly can wait.

 i am on vacation yepppyyyyyy....until 30 nov...

Good morning friends! We did not too so good at the art show, people are still very short on money these days. The artists with things at a lower price did very well though.

I've got a lot of my holiday shopping done already! Went shopping yesterday with my daughter and got a lot of things. Typically, I'll shop almost every day during my lunch hour at work as the stores are less crowded then.
