Hi All,
I am new to the group. I have been doing yoga on and off for a few years. Recently I started a more habitual practice due to a back injury I am trying to heal. I look forward to being a part of this group, I already learned a lot from the board!
April
I am new to this group - and I hate to say, new to social networking sites (so forgive my blunders!). At the moment, I am coming back to yoga and meditation with a renewed spirit. I started my practice eleven years ago, during my first visit to India and had a great experience of self-awareness, detachment and inner peace. But then, after getting on with "normal life", yoga had progressively become another form of exercise and had lost the original purpose. Now, however, I am really getting into the real spirit of a yoga once again, not only as a way to maintain balance of mind and body, but mostly as a discipline towards self-realization and harmony with the world. And so, in a week's time, I am traveling back to India (this is my fourth trip) and I will spend the next three months in the Himalayas, hopefully developing my self-awareness and my capacity for compassion. As I said, I am new to this kind of social interaction, but hopefully will be able to contribute something to this group and exchange opinions with similarly-minded people.
Hello everyone! My name is Lauren and I just joined this group. I love doing yoga - I currently practice hatha and ashtanga yoga, as those classes are offered at my gym. I have been doing yoga off and on for the past 7 years or so, but I decided to really get back into it at the beginning of 2009. I try to attend class at least once a week, but I feel best going 3 times a week when my schedule allows for it. I'd love to learn how to do yoga on my own at home for the days when I can't go to the classes!
Looking forward to meeting some of you and feel free to add me as a friend!
I am practicing Yoga for last 20 years. In India we r taught yoga in most scientific way. There are many instititutions that provide scientific traing of yoga. It is an art of balancing mind and body.
I have beinifited a lot by practicing yoga. but I would like to mention that one should not think about the benifits of it while practicing yoga. The benifits follw on their own if one keeps faith,
Hello, everybody! My name is cecilia and I've been practising yoga for the last 8 years. I can't tell you how much my life has changed since then. I feel good, healthy and strong, and of course, really connected with myself. The second step was being a vegetarian and now I feel completely good!
yoga is a precious gift from the indian ancients January 22, 2009 10:07 PM
its a nice to do yoga in the morning, because it refreshes your all the activity that youare doing daily

I agree about the effects of not doing your daily dose of yoga, however brief. It doesn't necessarily always make me do my practice, but I always regret it when I don't! And I love Yoga Nidra too!
Hello. My name is Stephanie. I have been taking yoga classes for the last year and a half. I find that if I don't spend at least a few minutes each day doing some poses that I get grumpy and stiff. I enjoy the meditation CD Yoga Nidra.
Welcome to Barb, Carolyn and Samantha! Do share your interest and questions with the group, and don't forget to have a look at the arcives, as quite a lot of topics have been discussed there.
And Happy Christmas/New Year/whatever you celebrate to everyone! May everyone's resolves to get more involved with yoga be strong in 2009! ;o)
The best thing I did was join a Yoga Studio -start my day practicing poses. Really makes you feel better and I find myself much more relaxed and positive !

Hello, I am new to Yoga and have been told by my Pain Dr that it would help with my back pain. I am interested in learning more about it and how to do it.
you mistaken me 2help is created for a social cause but here u will get only yoga related postings it is like sharing the knowledge about yoga i want to know more about yoga that is the reason i joined here
Welcome, Steven. You are never too old to start benefitting from yoga. There are some very gentle styles, which can be done by most people, and you learn ahimsa by practising - knowing your limitations, and being kind to yourself.
Welcome, too, to Thressa and Joanna (I'm working my way back throught the postings, and don't seem to have had email alerts for several of them ...)
Thressa, I think that you will find some threads about yoga with kids in the archives, but do ask if you have more questions - there are bound to be others who are in a similar situation.
Joanna, I hope that you will find your way into a regular practice again. I know that it is harder to do yoga at home by yourself - I never relax quite so much when I am having to think about what I am going to do as I do when I just follow what a teacher is saying. I'm sure that any time you find in your schedule for yoga willl be time well spent, as you'll probably be more efficient in the rest of your life after the relaxation and energy that yoga will give you.
Hello everyone, my name is Cindy. I'm so glad to have found a web page that is so positive!! I practice Bikram Yoga and i can honestly say that it's the best thing i have ever gotten myself into.
Hello to all my name is julie i live near detroit i am new to this website as well as yoga i hope to make time in my very busy schedule to incorporate yaoga into my life as i have many other types of meditation. Ill keep my eye out for tips Thanks to all who help others help themselves.

I took yoga five or six years ago and it was yoga which helped me to struggle with some really bad and difficult moments in my life. Last year I couldn't do it due to strange cicumstances, but it was really hard for me. I tried to do some at home but.... it's not the same. Now I decidet to reorganize my life a little bit to find time for yoga again.
i've taken a few yoga classes and never felt so refreshed, but now circumstances have me unable to take the class. any ideas how to begin at home and incorporate your children.
No matter your age or weight you can enjoy the benefits of these two forms of exercise. A Certified Instructor will not do anything in the class that would cause you harm. They are taught to gradually increase your abilites. You will be amazed at how relaxed you will become as well as feel good inside your own body again.
Yoga or Tai Chi? Hello! I want to have yoga and/or Tai Chi...I look and they said ... Well, I am big and I do not think the Lotus position is for me, if so please answere. My friend had Tai Chi and he did not practise it...I am not waiting for him to to mine as all other things...

I am interested in yoga but feel my old bones arent up to it ,very interesting group and I will have a rake around the archives for some advice, if anyone can throw a short guide in an easy to understand way it would help.
Hi, I am new to this group. I have been practising yoga meditation for many years. I was fortunate enough to get a good initial grounding in Iyengar yoga nd now I practice on my own and use yoga with more and softer breath as an aid to mindfulness meditation, (as well as helping my aging bones!).
I look forward to sharing and participating with you all in this group.
If you look at the group's archives, you'll find quite a lot of discussion about how to get started. A class is probably the best way, as then you will have a real person to answer questions, and interact with what you are doing. There are lots of different styles of yoga, so if you have the luxury of choice, you may wish to try a few different ones. DVDs are probably the next best choice, as you can see someone actually doing the poses, and can copy them. Books can also help.
We're delighted to welcome you to the group, Nayomi. Everyone has something to bring to it, whether they've done a handful of classes, or practised all their lives! Please feel free to ask questions or add to discussions.
I'm not fully knowledgable about yoga but, I've took a few yoga classes. Well I know enough that I really enjoy yoga which I was keen on joining this group!
Nice to meet you. I just started yoga just about a week ago at the local ymca. I want to practice it because I suffer from alot of stress. I have bipolar disorder, and have alot of knots in my shoulders and neck all the time. I have alot of depression also, and thought it would be good to do the poses to get me to relax. Wish me luck! Thanks! Sandi
Hi, I have never really posted anything in a forum before, but this seems really nice. I have been practicing different types of yoga for about 5 years now. I can honestly say it changed my life completely. Actually I can honestly say yoga is my life's passion. About two years ago I got into a Tibetan yoga brought to the west by Lama Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche, Kum Nye. Everything in my life shifted after finding this form of yoga. I am now living in a retreat center/publishing center. I practice and study Kum Nye everyday, and hope to contribute to preservation of the knowlegde contained in working with energy and perception in this way. I am interested in reading what other people have to say about their practice, and possibly insights that have stemmed from working with the body and 'subtle energy system'.
Motivation to start again needed June 04, 2008 9:17 AM
Hi all, I just wanted to say hello, and that I am definitely here for some much-needed motivation to get back at it.
I used to take classes of Hatha Yoga, and I LOOOVED it, but haven't been able to attend the past few years. I want to get back into it, just lack of motivation on my part.
Hello, everyone!! My name is Richard Embleton of South Africa and I'm a Sahaja Yogi. I'm in a 24 hour meditative state of genuine Sahasrara 1000 petals and I wish to give everyone the opportunity to join Me. There are many surprises for those who venture with heart in hand, and different ideas will always clash, but Truth is infallible...
I've been doin yoga for about 6 years now, since I was 12. Never attended classes, though, but planing on doing so this summer. Feel free to add me as a friend.
Just dropped by to introduce myself. I've been doing yoga for about four years and wish I had more time to devote to it. I've had to stop going to weekly classes due to pressure of work (studying for a degree in counselling) but can't wait to return in a couple of weeks - I really miss it!
Hi there yoga friends! I've been going to yoga classes and reading lots since about fifth grade when I found my dad's copy of Light on Yoga. However, I've always had a bit of a problem maintaining a yoga practice outside of classes. So I'm here to keep myself motivated while I pursue my practice at home. Thanks!!
You must try hot yoga, Bikram is what I would recommend. I found it 2 years ago, my instructor had multiple knee injuries, and was able to slowly built his knees back. Is is also AMAZING for back pain. I had a bad car accident 4 years ago and yoga has been the only remedy for my lower back pain It has inspired me to take the next step and become an instructor. I leave for 9 weeks in Acapulco, MX this Saturday...Good luck to you!
Welcome to Yoga Journeys, Burcin! I hope that you find this group interesting and helpful. Please feel free to start discussions, or add to existing ones.

Hi, I'm posting on care2 after a long time. I've been busy re-inventing myself professionally and have now taken on a new care2 name and identity. But I assure you, I'm still the same person, though a very much re-juvenated one.
I hope you find plenty of information to help you here. And please ask questions and share experiences!

Congratulations, Sarvo.
Unfortunately, I think the people who would be ready to commit to something like ojas shakti are few and far between unfortunately. Maybe that'll change with time.

Good news and bad news: First the good news - I'm a second initiated brahmana in the Brahma Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya. The bad news? No one seems to want to consider the importance of ojas shakti and as a result suicide and divorce rates are in a relentless upward spiral.

Your question is really broad - there are a lot of different styles of yoga and different poses, so it would be really hard to know where to start. Take a look through some past posts to see if those will help you, and then if you're still looking for more, start a thread with your questions.

Hi !
I'am new to Yoga,Iam thinking it will furthur help open chakras, and help with flexibility and spirituality. Can you help with photographic explanation(photographs with explanations written together with photographs) to help understand the yoga positions? Very much appreciated!
Yoga is wonderful, and any time that you spend on learning and practising it will be time well spent! It is quite hard to keep yourself motivated sometimes, though, especially if you are doing it by yourself. A regular class can help, if that's an option.

Very new to yoga. My doctor gave me a sheet of paper and told me that it would help with the panic attacks and also the weight loss. So far it has helped me calm down. I am looking for different discs to use at home as I can not afford to go to a gym to join the classes. Maybe at the local community college in the summer when things are not so tight. I have noticed that it helps also with the other exercises that I am doing. Mainly walking. When I buy my bike I have a feeling I will find that it helps to do the yoga poses before I go out. I am short and still 100 pounds overweight and deaf. Have lost over half my body weight that I need to lose to become healthy. I have plently of questions but will post them to the board as I am able to remeber them.
Merry Meet everyone, I am new to this group and just starting to learn Yoga, I am told it will help my pain and circulation. I purchased Yoga Booty Ballet (anyone try it?) it includes meditations (this I love). I live in Central CA.
I just wanted to take a moment and say hello to everyone - so Hello Everyone!!! I've been practicing yoga for several years now and I can't picture my life without it. I'm really looking forward to exploring this group further. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Hello I've been practicing yoga for several years now. Only recently made it a daily practice. I really admire the spiritual knowledge that yoga offers. Descriptions of the energy centers and channels really gets my attention. I think that yoga and meditatioin has made me realize the power of every thought, how we can observe the thought process. -William

Started as Hello... Ended as Help me! January 11, 2008 1:50 PM
Hey Everyone!
My name is Ali... I've always liked yoga. I started watching a show every Monday last summer. I watched it while the little girl I was babysitting was sleeping. I have really bad back pain and yoga seems to help. In fact, just last night... my pain was so bad that I could barely sit! I decided to do some yoga positions that I had learned and when I woke up this morning... NO PAIN!!! Fabulous... absolutely fabulous!
I'm a musician and so that leads to LOTS of standing and movement! My hurts from doing marching band (we think...)
I only know a few positions.. so if anyone has any tips for me... PLEASE TELL!!! I mostly need ones to help with my back and my knees. Maybe even my arms and hands...
I need some quick kind of yoga... I have a tight schedual you know! Between school... piano lessons... percussion lessons... and all the homework and practicing... I need something fast that will still make me relaxed and make the pain go away...
hello everyone, i was intro to the concept of yoga young by my mum, and i've taken a few classes while in thailand. it wasn't til this summer have a taken it somewhat continously. in my area, yoga is offered on 6-8 week cycles. of course, i'm speaking of the physical element of yoga. i hope to someday soon study more seriously in india. i have always firmly believed in yoga. even before practicing it, yoga is logical and natural. this belief is reaffirmed during the practice drought between class cycles. i do adore it, and wish i could take a daily class.
i look forward to seeing the path this group will take.
Thank you to Larry for inviting me into this group. I incorporate Buddhist meditation into gentle Hatha yoga practice each day. This allows me to connect with Source and connect with my body's innner and outer balance. I am an artist and I find that the more I am in touch with my Higher Essential Self, or Buddha-nature, the more 'authentic' and free-flowing my creativity becomes. (some of the time )
I look forward to popping into this group when I can, and getting to know you all.
Hi all.
My name's gary.
i live in tampa, florida, and have been studying yoga for some years -- since i had to learn to re-balance myself after a bicycle/car accident (me bike, them car LOL). I had had extensive experience paginating and typesetting a version of the Gita some years before the accident, and it came flooding back when i started meditating. That's (the Song Celestial) has become a big part of my yogic lifestyle. I write or a living (textbooks) so i have any schedule i need to work around.
i like to think i came out of the coma (19 days) lucid. Vedic studies, Yoga and meditation played a big role in my recovery, as they do now in my awakening.
It's nice to be here. And i practice alone -- most classes aren't very serious except for the physical nature of asanas. anybody here from tampa or environs that could recommend a serious teacher?
gary in tampa, florida USA. And God! is it beautiful here

Thanks, Dawna, for starting a new thread. I introduced myself on the other, but, I an not new to yoga, and am working on my teaching certification. I currently teach 2 classes a week, one is a vinyasa ashtanga-based class, and the other a yin yoga style. I love both of them and can't tell enough people how much yoga has done for me mentally and physically.

Hello. My name is Kelly and I am new to this group, as well. I am a beginner with Yoga, but want to learn more. I love the benefits I receive after a session. Also, I would like to know more about raw food diets and how to begin. I'm already pretty healthy, but know I'm so toxic due to pain medication I take for my back. I'd appreciate any advice.
Hi there,
I am new to the group, my name is Siri Datta and I am a Kundalini Yoga teacher. I am passionate around Raw Food too, and am always trying to get my message out there. I live in Dorset, but you can find me in Glastonbury, Brighton and London.
I am a writer and presenter too!
Happy New Year everyone! Siri Datta xx
