Urge Congress to Help End Violence Against Women August 19, 2010 11:29 AM

Urge Congress to Help End Violence Against Women

You can help end violence against women. Take action!

Sponsored by: Oxfam America

Sex trafficking, rape during times of war, and domestic violence are destructive forces not just for women, but for entire communities. Congress has the power to speak out against this systemic violence against women, and rally support for innovative programs that decrease acts of violence. Their leadership could play a vital role in supporting the work that Oxfam does in many places around the world.

Please ask your legislators to make women's safety an urgent priority. This leadership could mean the difference between life and death for a woman or girl. Sign the petition now.

Dear Decision-maker,

In her lifetime, one in three women globally will suffer from the first-hand effects of violence. This violence against women is a global health crisis and human rights violation that contributes directly to instability and insecurity throughout our world.

I am asking you to take a stand for women.

You have the power to speak out against this systemic violence against women, and rally support for innovative programs that decrease acts of violence.

I'm urging you to make it a priority to:

· Improve our government's ability to respond to systemic violence against women.

· Provide aid to women's groups on the ground working to help survivors.

· Support innovative programs that decrease acts of violence.

· Focus resources on prevention and ensure that dollars are used in the most effective ways possible.

Your leadership could inspire the international community to stand up and demand better for women around the world.

Please make a difference in the lives of millions of women and girls by making their safety a priority today.

Petitions for the Roos and Dolphins May 19, 2007 4:23 PM

Thanks both of these signed.

Jandi we live in a most beautiful part of the world in Scotland where we are at one with nature in all its glory. Each day is an adventure and a pleasure....and yet there is a breed of our fellow mankind that pay good money to come from their towns and cities with the express aim of killing anything that lives, moves, flies, swims. They call it sport! They even shoot our hares who only have one leveret (baby) a year and tend to keep the same mate for life. Kill one of these noble beasts and they might as well slaughter the entire family. These same types complain like anything when they can't find hares to shoot and look accusingly at us as if we have deprived them of their sport. So we walk arround after them collecting the filthy spent shell cases they leave littering this beautiful spot. It is always a great day for the country when the shooting season finishes.

Petitions to sign . . . and noted those signed! =) May 18, 2007 8:07 PM

Greetings all,

Hope this finds everyone in good sprits! We've certainly been active on some really important issues! Jandi, I just signed the petition for the roos in Australia. I just can't believe that anyone would expose their children to this type of behaviour! And here they are losing ground as a species . . . and we think they need "culling???" What's up with that?

At any rate, just wanted to add this one again; we're getting close to 1,000 signaures and as always, I know that 1,000,000 seems like an overwhelming number . . . however I truly believe that if we can't get AT LEAST that many signatures, the State Department is not going to take this seriously; it's already something we know that this administration does not take seriously . . . nor do they care about it.

Anyway . . . here it is! If you've already signed, then thank you! And if you sign now . . . also thanks!!! =)

Have a great week-end and I hope to get back in over the week-end! She is getting organised!

Petitions to Help Kangaroo's ~ and ~ Important Tax Information to attend to! Please!!!! May 18, 2007 5:55 PM

Dear friends, Kangaroo's are in need of our help. Please take a minute to sign...for our friends down under! Thanks, Ron G.

Hi Friends

I have a petition against the culling of the Kangaroos in Australia which Mark C kindly did for me as it kept giving me an error message.

Helen xxxx

Dear Care2 members,

After six years of Bush administration tax cuts for the wealthiest one percent of our country, the new Congress is trying to turn things around.

Democratic leaders in Congress want to help low-income people by improving the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit. These credits provide badly needed assistance, but currently they do not reach millions of the poorest children, and provide far too little to low-income, childless workers.

Click this link to send a letter to Congress in support of improving these tax laws:

This year, working families with incomes below $11,750 will be excluded from the refundable Child Tax Credit and 10 million children in working families will receive zero help simply because they are too poor. In addition, childless workers with earnings averaging about $6,050 get a very small EITC - only $230 on average.

Efforts to fix flaws in our tax system so it can benefit rather than penalize the working poor, must be a top priority. By increasing the amount and the number of people eligible for these tax credits, we can help lift up millions of America's working poor who have received little benefit from recent tax cuts or the nation's economic growth.

The poor don't have a lot of power. If we're silent, others with more money and power may shrink or eliminate improvements to these tax credits. But if hundreds - let's hope thousands - of us send letters, the needs of the poor will move up high on the priority list, where they belong.

Please sign and forward!

A wolf and a donkey share a cage in the northwestern town of Patok in Albania, about 40 km (25 miles) from capital the Tirana, May 9, 2007. The donkey was brought into the enclosure to be fed to the wolf, which was caught in the northern Albanian mountains four months ago. The animals have since become attached to each other, cohabitating in the cage for the last 10 days, and attracting curious villagers and local media.

These poor animals live in misery, the scared wolf cowers behind his donkey companion. They live in appalling filthy conditions with little room.

Please be a voice for these animals and ask for their freedom.

Dolphin/Foreign Policy Petition April 29, 2007 9:51 AM

I hope this finds everyone well, and having a great week-end. I have an important petition (and that is not to say that others aren't); I say this for a couple of reasons: 1) It's to help protect one of the most intelligent species on the planet . . . (sorry, not Homo sapiens!!! ); and 2) it is meant to influence U.S. foreign trade policy. So, in that sense, it's meant for Americans to raise their voices and participate in our government the way that our Founding Fathers meant it to be.

President Martin Torrijos stated recently that capturing wild dolphins for sale to aquaria is "reasonable;" he also stated that he felt it was something that should be "legalized;" I submit that very few--if any--Care2 members don't realize the insanity of this type of policy. However, the U.S. is in process of negotiating trade agreements with Central America, and Panama in particular.

Dolphin Bay is one of the areas that Torrijos feels capture is okay; that's like the people who live on Cougar Mtn. in Washington state complaining that there is a cougar in their yard! DUH!!! It's called Cougar Mountain for a reason!!! Sorry! At any rate, the petition is for delivery to the Department of State; as one who has a Masters in Conflict Analysis & Resolution, I can attest that negotiation of environmental conflicts is the best way to meet the reasonable tenets of an agreement. So . . . that's why I started the Petition.

I am trying to gather 1,000,000 signatures; and if they are worldwide, all the better; it demonstrates to the U.S. that others care about what our polices our, particularly our trade agreements. And I would imagine that most of you recongise that captivity for dolphins is cruelty. My research is on the largest of the dolphins: the killer whale (Orcinus orca). This top predator has taught me so much; and I have seen many types of dolphins and porpoises and realize how important they are to our marine eco-systems. Not to mention how beautiful they are.

They live in very tight social groups, just as we humans do; they bond, they teach their young (cultural transmission), and much, much more. Please, please help with this Petition: the sooner we can reach our target and deliver this petition to Sec. Rice, the sooner this element can come into the negotiations. and

The Petition can be found at:

and for all of you and

One example of this horror is a little labrador-cross dog which locals have named "Limpy". He is homeless and is roaming the highway and communities with a front paw which is broken clean through. His paw flails around on the end of his leg, totally limp. He now tries to walk on the broken leg stump with his paw flung all the way out to the side. People pass him by and do nothing to help him. He was either beaten or hit by a car.

  • Signatures: 520
  • Goal: 10,000
  • Deadline: Ongoing...
The Amur Leopard, a rare leopard found in Russia, is on the verge of extinction!

With only a few left remaining in the wild due to logging, farming, building and poaching- this beautiful species is on a harsh road to extinction if there is not any action done immediately.

The World Wildlife Fund has announced at a news briefing recently that there are only 25-34 of these graceful creatures still living in the wild; a major decline since the beginning of the 20th century when there had been several thousand Amur leopards.

There is some good news. The Amur Leopard can make a comeback if there is immediate action done to save them.

Please, don't let these gorgeous creatures dissappear! Something must be done!

Dear friends,

I am now at a very critical stage with the TESCO - Turtle campaign, the petition is now being found very embarrassing by TESCO.

The signatures with comments are the most effective as these are the ones that are causing the most embarrassment to Tesco.

If any of you are able to help gain signatures for the petition, preferably with comments, it would achieve the maximum effect at the moment whilst we are communicating with TESCO.

Most of you know by now that Turtles are able to withstand decapitation and remain conscious for some considerable time, there are reports of turtles remaining conscious for over an hour whilst being butchered alive.

I hope you can help us apply even more pressure on TESCO, take care, Paul.
