The owner of the dog, Wesley Barrett, claims that his unnamed neighbor shot and killed the dog, upon finding the dog dead he hung the dog as a message to his neighbor. A shocked witness of the hanging dog took photos and called animal control. Police were notified and sent to the Barrett residence, however, Mr. Barrett failed to name the neighbor that allegedly shot the dog, he failed to press charges and the police did not investigate this gruesome murder. According to many reports, an investigation into this murder has been requested, however, to date, the concern for Dusty's murder seems to have disappeared as quickly as his body. We call for an investigation into this senseless murder. We ask what pet owner would hang his dead dog and refuse to press charges against whoever allegedly murdered his dog? We ask the officials of Kentucky to take a stand, do not let Dusty's murder go unpunished, this was blatant animal abuse and nothing less. Dusty was only 2 years old, I cannot imagine the pain this dog suffered prior to his death. Dusty R.	May 31, 2009 7:05 AM Marcus Campbell, Jasper, AL, was happy when he found out his escaped boxer, Boost, had been found and turned into the Humane Society in Walker County. He showed up early the next morning before the shelter was even open to pick up his prodigal pooch only to find out that Boost had been euthanized within a half hour of being dropped of at the shelter. “She asked what I needed, and I said, ‘I’m here to pick up my dog that you got in at 4 o’clock.’ She said, ‘The only dog we got in at 4 o’clock was the boxer dog that an old couple brought in.’ I said, ‘Yes, ma’am. That’s him,’ and she said, ‘We done put him to sleep.’” Humane Society Executive Director Lane Reno says the dog was dropped off by an elderly couple at 4 pm, quickly evaluated by staff, thought initially to be a pitbull or pitbull mix and euthanized by 4:30. She didn’t sound too remorseful that they had killed a beloved family pet either. “We can have any individual bring a dog in. It’s a family pet. It’s never bitten anybody. It’s really nice, but I guarantee you if it tries to bite one of us while we’re reaching for it, we cannot and will not put that animal up for adoption.” Basically, the shelter was full, they had to available cages or space so it was quickly bye-bye to Boost ever though Marcus Campbell says Boost was a friendly dog, had a collar and was well-fed and taken care of. Campbell’s attorney, Brett Wadsworth, will file a civil lawsuit on Tuesday- against the Walker County Humane Society, Executive Director Lane Reno, and Walker County this Tuesday, arguing all three broke the law. “What our goal is in this is not to get a large sum of money,” Wadsworth explains. “Our goal is to make sure this does not happen again.” The law requires dog or cat owners be notified when their animal is impounded, if ownership can be determined, or the animal may be put up for adoption after at least seven days. The Code of Alabama also requires all counties to have a suitable pound and impound officer. Walker County, which has neither, is essentially breaking the law. The City of Jasper pays the Humane Society to impound its dogs. “And that’s the keyword, ‘impound,’” Reno says. “That’s official Animal Control when you can impound animals and hold them in hopes that an owner comes, but we just don’t have that kind of facility.” Reno maintains lack of space has been an issue. (ABC3340.com) To me this is just incomprehensible! To euthanize a dog almost immediately without giving the owner a chance to come forward, especially a dog which is so obviously healthy and well-bred. Even if the dog were “moody” as she put it, that’s no reason. He was probably scared, traumatized. Most shelters will hold a dog for a certain period of time in case it belongs to someone before they put it up for adoption or euthanize it if they decide it cannot be adopted. If the euthanasia substance isn't carefully and accurately administered, an animal's lungs could be punctured, causing them to fill with fluid, a painful way to die. My dear friend Marion G knows all about it as her fantastic organization drove all the way from Germany to bring down about 1,500 kg of dog food, medicines etc. They save animals from all over EUROPE - many from Spain and Italy and even Moscow - and keep them in foster until they go to their homes - the dogs never go into shelters or kennels. March 09, 2009 8:53 AM Target: Apple Tree Mobile Home park Sponsored by: Marian Elliott Poppy lives at Apple Tree Mobile Home Park in New Castle Colorado with his canine companions, Bella and Boots, and his human family. Recently, the management of Apple Tree announced that only one dog per mobile home would be allowed. Because Poppy's family had two dogs before moving, they had secured permission for two dogs, in writing, prior to the move. They were sure that after explaining how they had come to have another, permission would be granted to keep all three. Unfortunately, the management of Apple Tree did not agree. They recognized that the family was "Grandfathered" and could keep two, but a third would have to go. The family suggested that Poppy, at age 15 years, deaf, and with a heart condition, should be allowed to live out his natural life and no other dogs would be added. The other two dogs, both 5 years old, would be kept as the two dogs the family is allowed. Again, the management of Apple Tree did not agree. The family has been told that they must produce a Veterinary receipt for the euthanization of Poppy within 30 days or face eviction. They do not have the money for a court fight, nor do they have the money to move their mobile home, yet they are desperate to save Poppy. Our Story: My neighbors dog was in my yard aggravating my 2 dogs, while being provoked one of my dogs pushed the gate open (which unfortunatly had not been properly relocked by my lawn maintenance company) and escaped. The two dogs began to fight in my yard, unfortunately the other dog, a Yorkie did not make it. I am at my wits end!!! They claim it was in their yard when it was not. After seeing my dog escape I ran out and stopped the fight, my dog let go instantly however I have a Staffordshire terrier and she is 66 lbs and the other dog was very small. This was a horrible accident but with the new law they will put my dogs down since the neighbors can't seem to get their story straight. We are talking a matter of inches, now how can they kill them for a matter of inches. These are my kids and taking them away is wrong. I feel horrible about what happened and paid all the expenses for the vet in order to try and save the Yorkie's life. The neighbors have even said it was not our fault and the Animal Control has even said they are not dangerous but with the neighbors constantly changing their story my dogs still sit on DEATH ROW. This wonderful lady just needs 1,000 signatures to make her battle winnable, but if she does not get 1,000 by October 18th this battle will be all but lost due to politics’ and the powers that be, that would be a terrible shame and waste of a valiant effort. These children need her to win this fight! Sponsored by: Patricia This insert was in the Daily Voice Newspaper telling of a Pit Bull named Tammy who was burnt to death by her owners! The owners wanted to punish her for jumping over the wall into their neighbors garden, so they fetched her and put her in her kennel and doused it with petrol and set it alight!! Tammy was only found a few days later by Animal Welfare workers who wept when they saw her. Tammy had sustained such severe burns to her legs, belly and face, she was also blinded by the fire. The SPCA had to eauthenaze Tammy because she was just in too much pain. The heartless couple could face charges of jail up to a year and fines up to R 200 000. This is not enough for what they have done to this innoccent victim! We plead for the maximum possible punishment! For every 500 signatures I receive I can send it to the SPCA for use in the prosecution of these people. Tammy's death will not go unseen, she is an ambassador for all pets around the world! Group History 12:10 PM There was a great article in People about a father who lost his baby girl when a licensed child care provider shook her and caused massive brain damage. Instead of giving up he started doing research and found that over 1,400 children a year are affected and many of those who cause the harm cannot be convicted because prosecutors cannot prove intent. He started fighting and got Cynthia's Law passed. It makes it a felony in New York State to cause injury-regardless of intent- by "shaking, slamming or throwing" a child under 5 and the penalty in up to 7 years in prison. He is now working to get Federal Legislation and counseling for parents. I feel this is a cause many will feel strongly about so I created a petition for us to sign and forward to him to help get the legislation passed.
