KANE had his leg amputated and is doing wonderful. We have also posted a short video on his web page showing him walking. This is one of the sweetest little dogs. He just loves to be loved on and give kisses. He is so happy go lucky about life. We already have a wonderful new home for him to go to.
CHANCE is doing rehab 4 times a day for 20 minutes each time to get him to start using his back leg that was so damaged before surgery. He is beginning to put a little weight on it which is wonderful. He has put on about 7 pounds since he came in and his mange is starting to show signs of his fur growing back. He is an incredibly sweet dog that will make someone a wonderful family companion. He will be available for adoption in about two weeks.
DUCHESS has had more tests and surgery than any dog we have ever had. Yesterday we did an endoscopy at UVS to rule out that she didn't have a piece of plastic that was causing her to throw-up all of her food. We didn't discover anything like that but did discover that the lining of her esophagus and stomach is completely raw and inflamed. We are now beginning to believe that when she had parvo & pylori as a pup her condition was so bad that even though the original causes were treated it inflamed her stomach lining so badly that she now has a chronic acidic stomach. We have started treating her with medication to soothe her stomach and reduce the acid and in the process she seems to be able to hold her food down for longer periods of time. She is ravenous all the time. If you get near her run and you are not feeding her she gets very upset by moaning and crying. She literally has been starving to death. She will remain at UVS where she is being treated and monitored hourly. We are all committed to getting this sweet pup on the otherside of this horrible life she has had. She is a sweetheart and will be available for adoption once we have her on the mend.
MAMA BEAGLE & PUPS are doing great. They have sarcoptic mange and have improved dramatically. They have even started to get a little hair back on their bodies. They will be going to another rescue in Kentucky where they will complete their treatment and be adopted out there.
We have been asked by a lot of people to resend the last e-mail about Nutmeg around again because the links were not working on the original one. Our internet provider was updating their system while we were sending out e-mails and in the process it corrupted the links. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and for the extra e-mails that we have had to send to fix the problem. We desperately still need donations for this beautiful boy and also a wonderful home.
Thanks for caring and helping us with all these wonderful animals. Without our Guardian Angels none of this would be possible. If you cannot donate, but would like to help, send to your animal loving friends that might be able to. Remember, all out donors are like family to us. We talk to you via e-mail several times during the week. We love the communication and when we do not hear from you, we get concerned that something might be wrong. Please drop us a line just to say hello and ease our minds that you are alive and well.
This sweet, energetic 16 month old chocolate lab was saved from being PTS at the Elberton, GA shelter No one would step up for her because she had an old fracture that required surgery. She was immediately taken to Greenville, SC where she had surgery to repair her leg at Upstate Veterinary Specialist. Most old fractures cannot be repaired and the leg is usually amputated. We did not want that for this young pup and were willing to do whatever was needed to save her leg. After several hours of surgery they were able to repair the leg. She will now require several months of restricted exercise to build up her leg and then will be as good as new. She is a beautiful young lab dog that did not deserve to be dumped at the shelter to be PTS. Accidents happen and it is up the the pet guardians to make sure their loyal companions are taken care of.
MAMA BEAGLE & BABIES WITH MANGE LEFT TO DIE AFTER BEING TOSSED FROM BACK OF TRUCK
These sweet adorable 6 week old babies and their mom were pitched from the back of a truck and left to die. They all survived but have a severe case of mange that will kill them if left untreated. They are completely hairless from the mange. They are going to the vet today to be treated for mange, secondary infections and brought up to date on all vaccination. We will also have the Mom spayed when she is able and also her tested for HW. If she is positive, then we will have her treated. They are such sweet little pups that are just miserable with the mange. They appear to be pure breed beagles. As soon as we know more we will post it on their web page. For now, we want to get them treated and on the mend. They will be fostered in Hawesville, KY which is where they are now.
LAUREL & HARDY available for ADOPTION July 29, 2009
These two beautiful pups are available for adoption. They were originally going to be euthanized because they were brought into Greenville County with parvo and all parvo pups are euthanized immediately. They have been treated for parvo and are out of their quarantine period. They were with a family that was fostering to adopt them and we have decided to not allow the foster family to adopt this beautiful brother and sister. They are a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Shih-Tsu & Dachshund mix. They are up to date on all shots and are 4 months old. We would like to have them adopted together. If you are interested in these wonderful pups, please contact us at the e-mail below.

We wanted to thank everyone that donated or forwarded the e-mails around about the abuse cases we had this week. Below are the weekly updates for our recent animals. We greatly appreciate your support and kind letters. Without our Guardian Angels, none of this would be possible.
Since were on the topic of senior dogs, here is a beautiful girl who desperately needs a home.
As I was finishing up the articleSenior BenefitsI received an email about Honey Bear. She was rescued by The Pepper Foundation in Studio City, CA.
Honey Bears story
We rescued Honey Bearfrom
the Harbor Animal Shelter in San Pedro where her family dumped her
cause they said they could no longer care for her. She is the sweetest
dog ever! She is about 12 yrs old but is very agile and still active.
She is very affectionate and give sweet kisses! she will make a
wonderful companion and wants to be your best friend! Please give Honey
Bear a chance, she wont let you down!

About Our Rescue Group
We rescue dogs mostly out of the Los Angeles City shelters and find
loving and forever homes for them. We mostly take in the special needs,
and senior doggies on their last days at the shelter. A lot of the time
these animals have been abandoned and we want to give them a second
chance at a forever loving home. Donations are always welcome since we
operate by donations only..You can always make a paypal donation to Planetheart. We are a 501 c 3 and all donations are tax deductible.
I have to believe someone out there is going to look at that
precious face and contact the shelter about adopting her. Dont you
just want to grab hold of Honey Bear and shower her with love?

PAWS takes in 34 dogs from Kennewick puppy mill
On Saturday, PAWS took in 34 of the more than 370 neglected dogs seized
from a suspected Kennewick, Washington puppy mill operation. With
hearts beating rapidly, staff met the kind volunteer who drove the dogs
across the state, and welcomed the small, frightened creatures to our
shelter.
This
week, the dogs and puppies, all American Eskimo dogs, minis, or mixes
of the breed, are receiving much-needed medical attention, thorough
grooming, and behavior evaluations. Most are going to experienced and
loving foster homes to spend time in a quiet, home environment to
recuperate and receive crucial socialization. After spending their
entire lives in cramped cages with little or no positive humane
interaction, it will take time for these pups to
adapt to every day life, such as being inside a home or walking on
grass.
The
earliest the dogs will be available for adoption is the middle of June.
If you are interested in adopting one of these special needs dogs,
first read more about the reality of providing a home for a dog rescued from a puppy mill. Interested adopters must come to PAWS in Lynnwood and talk to an adoption counselor in person.
How can you help? If you are not ready to adopt one of these puppy mill dogs, there are still plenty of ways you can help:
Adopt another dog or cat already in our shelter. This will help open up space for other animals in need.
Become a foster parent.
While these puppy mill dogs are going to already trained foster homes,
that means those foster families aren't available for other animals in
need. PAWS is always in need of loving, attentive foster volunteers to
provide temporary care for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in their
homes.
Donate today.
At a time when our services are being used more than ever, PAWS is
stretching our dollars to help care for these new arrivals, and ensure
that they are placed into permanent, loving homes.
Thank you for your kindness and compassion for animals in need!

Voilá, the North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue starts receiving much needed donations. Easy, safe, and painless.
The NMAR is a wonderful organization who give dogs like Ana,
pictured, a chance to have a normal life. Beautiful Ana hasnt had it
easy, shes lived at the shelter since she was four months old, over 2
1/2 years.
This poor girl has been with us since she was a 4 month
old pup, and was feral for all intents and purposes. A kind man was
able to trap her and bring her to us with the hope that we might be
able to turn her around. We attempted to present her for adoption,
thinking that someone with a soft spot for tough cases would take her,
but we had no interest from anyone. When she was only 8 months old, the
vets discovered that she had extremely bad hips, and we did not expect
her to live comfortably for long.
Amazingly, Ana has continued to surprise us. Although still very,
very shy, she is sociable on her own terms, in her own time. She will
sit for petting and loving as long as the human is also seated. She
will often jump up on the couch and initiate the attention, even with
people she has never met before. She has NEVER shown any aggression
towards humans, she simply runs off when she is frightened. She plays
with toys and snuggles with her doggie friends. Ana gets on well with
every dog she has ever met, and runs and plays with exuberance despite
the conditions of her hips. She has required very little pain medicine
up to this point, and if you did not know she had hip issues, you would
not be able to tell by watching her play.
Ana is going to require a very special family, preferably with no
more than two dogs and parents who will have lots of time and love to
give her. If you think youre the one please contact NMAR as soon as possible, there are some changes at the shelter and Ana desperately needs to move on to her forever home.
HOW URGENTLY IN NEED ARE THE ANIMALS?
Call AND e-mail BEFORE 8:30 A.M. on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3.
See contact information above. Generally, animals are subject to lethal
injection after five (5) days of impoundment. Injections typically
occur on Wednesdays, but because the shelter becomes SO FULL at times,
they may occur more frequently. Contact NOW!
Thank you for returning my call. This is the dog I told you about.
When I went to the petfinder's site I did not see him listed. He
is a pound dog. This rescue apparently lists their own dogs and then also posts
dogs in the Rockport Pound. Please forward to anyone that can help. He is
a beautiful boy. Can't believe he does not weigh more than 50 pounds. He needs
out of there!!!!!
Thank you-

sent a message about poor Torro, hes been in the pound since March 23,
his time is up. Some rescues have asked about him but Torro did not dog
test very well. Thanks to a loving volunteer dog walker Torro is coming
around quite nicely.
Isnt there anyone out there that can take the time and give him a chance?
