Whats your favorite kind of fishing? April 25, 2005 12:46 PM
Everyone has their favorite kind of fishing.. Some like the peacefull cat fishing where you just cast out on botom and wait. Others prefer the more active style such as bass fishing.. What do all of you prefer?
Myself I love cat fishing but it does get a little boring at times. Around here we call it Shovelhead hunting... I always take another pole to bass fish with while I am waiting for the big shovels to come and swallow my blue gill..
ALso what kind of baits do you use for catfish? I use bluegills and creek chubs and when I really feel like going after the "big one" I will use about a one pound yellow bellie...
what about bass fishing? Do you use live bait or lures?
I usually use live night crawlers but I will sometimes use a kicktail lure...
I like to fish for them when they are still alive. April 25, 2005 1:17 PM
Not into thowing a bomb in the water, like the commercials do.
I have fished in Indiana on the Wabash. I was a kid and the thing I remember most (besides the beauty 7 and putting our carp in a gunny sack, staking it to the shore and the American Indians that lived in the junk yard coming and getting them once a day or so) was hooking my little brother in the head, as I was casting, while he was taking a wiz on a tree behind me. He was my biggest, so far.
We caught a lot of sunfish/bluegill/carp.
I like to kick back and fish, but I like a fight too. So I guess my smallies would be fun for the fight and trout (I'd rather eat catfish) are the most sittin fish catchin. But you do have to watch you line with trout. Plus, they bleed so easy. I hate to catch something and kill it if I don't want it. But the lake I go to has plenty of bald eagles, so when I throw them back I get to see the eagles fish too.
My biggest cat was 12.5 lbs flat head caught on the colorado in AZ.
Hubby on the other hand will stand for hours waiting for a bite or cast a spinner out 100 times without getting tired.
Spearfishing is the best. More exciting, you get to see a lot more and learn a lot more. And when you hit a big fish the adrenaline really pumps.

We can leave the house before 6 am and stay ALL day and not catch nothing but my daughter and I still have a blast!
We live in West Virginia and the trout are everywhere if you know where to go!My grandfather showed me holes noone goes to.Trout are the best fish in the world to eat and catch.Yeah in that order.
Probably trying to catch king salmon in the spring & silver salmon in the fall. Fished commercially most of my life drift netting in later years & set netting with my parents when I was a kid. Up till about 10 years ago when my daughter got tired of being a deckhand & bought my boat & permit. Never heard of anyone trying to bomb fish except maybe a creek robber. Also enjoy dipnetting for smelt in the spring.

You might be right at that, didn't think about that one. Listning to the silvers hit on a dark quiet night can be fun too.

I used to fish all the time, when my first husband was alive, but have not been fishing for a long time, now, we fished mostly for blue gills, catfish, and croppies, sometimes if we were lucky we would get a bass, or a northern pike, but was rare, I caught a 4lb northern pike on my birthday, back in the 70's at a place called Indian springs, was just lucky, i caught him on a cane pole, with a blue gill hook, was very fortunate, the line didn't break, I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana, so mostly go fishing near Kendallville Indiana, and marble lake in michigan, at marble lake back in a cove, we used to catch a lot of catfish, wish I had a companion to go fishin with me now, still have my cane pole, and use it most of the time. If anyone around my area would like to have a companion to go fishin with let me know. Marge

My best friend just moved from Rome city. I was in Kendellville a few years ago. Though I never got a chance to fish then.
We have folks in Ft Wayne too. But my Indiana fishing memories were in and about Warren fishing on the Wabash. There was a mill and dam where we would go and net minnows. Grandpa would put his in a jar for fishing the next morning and I decided to put mine in the bird bath, never figuring the birds would eat them.
Used cane poles, caught cat fish, pan fish, big carp and my little brother (in the head).
I will have to say Stripers. I usually catch and release exclusively. This one went on the table. This girl fell to a motor oil colored 4' long tube, trolled over an offshore hump. She was 50lbs 6oz.
Freediver, Thanks for the kudos on the fish. Stripers have white meat similar to cod but firmer and alittle fishier. Not a very good fish for deep fry. Halfway decent in a pan but best baked with butter and a hint of garlic(in my opinion).

We enjoy Trout fising year around in my state. I like Trout, Bass, and Catfish fishing. I have gone Catfishing off of a sailboat, which was enjoyable, but rather buggy experience. Mostly, Significant Other does all the fishing, due to my difficulity getting to the site.

Depending upon the mood and season, either stream fishing with flies or spinners or ice fishing. I never liked ice fishing as a kid, but when I moved to Seattle and couldn't do it, I realized that I missed it.
Flyfshing is our passion. Daughter is a guide. Catch and release. Would like to do some trips to Central or South America and Alaska. We have flyfished for Tarpon in Florida and one trip to Alaska for Silvers. Any experiences or tips for South American trips or Alaskan trips would be appreciated.

You must be a great dad for your daughter to be able to have grown up in such an atmosphere that she is following her heart. Heck most people don't even know what they wanna do.

Sad to say but most of the fish have been fished out here in Central Texas. We like to go to the Gulf coast and go fishing. Among my favorite are flounders, they taste delicious and red fish, yummy. I also love gafftop catfish too.
That's too bad. We had some big fish kills in Montana where some of the better lakes were either all but out of fish or there were only fish too small to catch and keep. It took some years to recover.

I like fishing for conger eels we catch them from the pier usually 3-6foot long, and about eating them i make them into little nuggets and fry them in batter lot of people dont think you can eat them well you can, i also catch smoothhounds and doggies, this is in Liverpool.
My favorite fish's for eating, "before I became a mindless vegetarian?!!!" was "Northern Pike" beleive it or not?!...I would go fishing with some neighbor, guy/fella up to northern Minnesota, and we would eat the fish's with the "Y" bones and "skin" and "fins" and sometimes even the "eyes!"....yes!!!! I said the "EYES!!!!"??? I can still see those beady little fishyyyy eyessss starrrring back at me, even to this day!... I shouldn't really be revieling this?...but the best way to catch dem dare Northerns, is to get yourself a "table spoon" or a "small sugar spoon" and "saw!!" that is to say "hack saw!!!" the metal handle off of that there stainless steel,if your cheap!" or preferably "Stirling Silver" spoon, if your feeling "ritzy!"??? and then put a "swivel hook" treble or maybe single hooks, because youll be catching so many fish!?...on the end were the handle was, and then a swivel or steel leader were you attach the lure to the fishing line. The best way to use the above mentioned rig, is to row or motor up wind on a "sunny and windy" day, and then drift fish down wind, kind of like trolling, but with natures trolling motor, "the wind!" I garunteeeeee!!!! You will catch fish!!!!!!! "Usallyyyyy"!!!? Please don't abuse this lure, and hook, line and sinker?! I'm not kidding! It only really works on "Sunny days", but who wants to fish on cloudy days, or in the dark anyway??? hope you catch a few, as I sure have done so...many times! S.W.
P.S. I would also like to mention, its possible to use "Dynamite" to catch fish, as it stunns anything in, or near the water, including myself or yourself!!!???? The game wardens might not like this technique, However!!?
