anonymous Have your say about our direction, ideas and goals. June 14, 2007 9:57 PM

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you in advance for your input.

Please set me straight as you see fit. I think there are some issues that need addressed before the group moves forward.

I think my first mistake with the group was rushing for action. I should know better than this, I place a lot of importance on communication and I always complain about people rushing forward without common agreement. I posted topics to get people talking and rushed forward without a common agreement.

I have received input from some of the group since posting the last thread. The members are divided, mostly cause by the perception the name gives. Many of the comments come from people that only want a full revolution. Some of the comments have been from people who are afraid that revolution is what the group is about. The problem is in the name "American Revolution" was ill conceived as a description of the idea.

I think before we move forward as a group, we should be organized and communicating first. I think people need to have their input heard, and agree on what we are doing. I also don't think I presented a plan that I can completely agree with after hearing out some of the members.

I wasn't going to say much: but feel I should now.

First, YOU are the one who called this group. YOU should define clearly what YOU mean by "American Revolution". Or whatever else YOU want to name the idea or the group.

Then, people will have something solid to either agree with, disagree with, partly agree or disagree, etc.

To ask people to "collectively define", is to ask for chaos and going round & round & getting nowhere.

Same goes for goals, objectives, etc.

There used to be this "quaint" saying on Madison Avenue: Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes!

If YOU make clear what YOU mean, then those who agree with YOUR definition of "Revolution", or disagree, will know where they stand. Is it "Revolution" like 1776; or is that a "metaphor"? Of course people have different images in their minds!

This is why, with free-thinking human beings, you will NEVER have "unity", unless the kind imposed by FORCE -- i.e., the Catholic Catechism or the Communist Party Line! It is ok not to have that sort of "unity"! But, there really is no other "unity"! of "everybody"! in my opinion.

So, in my opinion, it is doing it backwards to call people together, and THEN seeing what they can "unite" on. I would say, state clearly and COMPLETELY, EVERYTHING you want or expect. Then see what response you get! You won't get "everybody"; but, you'll get people who know what your goals are and if theirs are approximately the same!

That should take care of many or most mis-understandings.

I guess I have said enuf!

First of all I am not interested in being a dictator here, this a group about getting the people heard. That is the goal of the idea I was trying to share. That is why the intent is to put media control in the hands of the people. So, to say "YOU", "YOU", and "YOUR", kind of leaves out others opinions, and that is not MY goal. I appreciate your input, and have taken your input into consideration, including your stand against "unity". At this point WE have identified some flaws with the original launch of the group and the way the idea was presented. I do not think WE will benefit from pursuing a flawed start. I do not intend to pursue a single minded push forward without regard for mistakes I make. I am more interested in the people being heard than the people agreeing with a bad idea. I hope you can understand that, and allow the rest of the group to express their opinions as well.

To clarify my intentions... It is not about Impeachment, or Revolution, it is about controlling our own media, and making use of the refined techniques of propaganda. Media control and propaganda are what controls our democracy, and why when you are aware that you feel your vote does not count.

Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to get headed in the right direction. Promoting communication was the intent of this thread, and I do not believe we should or are moving forward without communication.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Dear James:

In stating that this is about "controlling our own media", I think you have defined the goals, aims, etc. of the group. I didn't mean, by capitalizing "YOU", to exclude anyone else! Under that banner, there is of course room for LOTS of discussion and variety of means.

I want you to understand, that in being against "Unity" {or forced or fake Unity!}, I am re-hashing old, old, old, old, old, {yawn}, old, old, old fights on the Left in my day. Maybe this is irrelevant here, and this can be a new direction!

Thank you for your input.

My idea of unity is that we are the people and whether I agree with your path or not, I think you voice is more important than FOX, CNN, MSNBC etc. Maybe this is a type of unity that appeals to you, maybe I just don't understand your point of view, but unless I ask, and we talk about it, I will never know.

As far as defining goals...I guess taking control of our own media could be considered a fairly solid goal. But, how to make it happen, and how to promote it and what to use it for is kinda up in the air. I see opportunities to put power in the peoples hands, and that is where I want that power to be.

By defining a goal of Impeachment or Revolution we were quickly divided, this wasn't my intent. When I started the group I had a scenario in my head of events to make use of this power. The name stemmed from this scenario and the timing of the event and even though I still think it is a powerful label, I also think it has too many problems based off the perception it gives.

I think "We the People" or "Voice of our Own" would have been a better name to project the right image and allow flexibility for everyone to be heard and have their own voice.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

we the people need to voice and be heard.isn't this the reason this group was started?  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Exactly, but I think I started the group off on the wrong foot, and I'm trying to correct the mistakes I'm aware of. One of the mistakes I made was to rush forward toward action, skipping any real communication. So hopefully, we can take a bit of time now and discuss how we can make the best use of all the ideas we have. The people do need to have a voice, on the streets, billboards, everywhere, including here. So please, express your ideas, and support or disagreement of other ideas.

The name of the group and it's use as a common label for uniting the people seems to carry a perceived goal that not everyone can agree with. The label in a way predefines a goal that is only part of what the people want and does not represent the more valuable idea of taking the media into our own hands. So it seems, if we are going to use any kind of common label, we need to discuss what will be the best label. What ideas do you have, or like, or disagree with?

Uniting the people has even been addressed, BMutiny brought up a very good point about that, and hopefully we are resolving the issue. Again it comes down to the perception words, and how well we have communicated our intended goals.

I just got cut off early, I'm helping some friends move today and they just arrived.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]
