HOW TO USE TAGS/GRAPHICS March 03, 2008 11:26 AM

Hello everyone.  After speaking with Daria today, I decided that there needed to be some clarifications concerning hotlinking and using tags/graphics.  It is my mistake by thinking everyone knows how to snag tags/graphics and many do not.  This is quite okay, this is a crash course.

Hotlinking-

Hotlinking means you have not saved a particular tag/graphic to your computer and then moved it to a Photo Album. (Photo Albums on the internet include: Photobucket, Fotki, Care2) When you right click and copy and use somewhere here on the internet, you are using that person's bandwidth which is illegal.  I can not tell you exactly what a bandwidth is, but by you using someone else's bandwidth causes problems for the original owner of the tag/graphics.  Have I lost anyone yet?

Snagging-

Snagging means finding a graphic you like and saving it to use somewhere on the internet.

Copying/Pasting

This is where I screwed up folks.  If you find a tag/graphics you like, you must save it first to your computer, transfer it to a Photo Album and then use it from your Photo Album.  This is your own bandwidth.  You're not stealing anyone else's bandwidth.  You can use your graphics anywhere as long as you have it in a Photo Album.

To make a long story short, if you see a tag/graphics you like, copy it to your computer.  Download it to a Photo Album and when you want to use this graphics, go to your Photo Album, right click, copy, and then paste wherever.

That's all I know and any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to try and find an answer for you.

Thank you and Happy Snagging.

Kathryn Sweetheart......I usually save my pics/tags in my care2 Album......& leave it open for anyone to brouse & use.....is it acceptable to do the same with the one I use from here....& if so would you like me to put them under a separate album....ie "Tags from tags & graphics group"....love & blessings always,Jay!x x  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Jay, it's not necessary to connect the group with the graphic.  That's so sweet of you to ask.  If you would like to put the groups' name, I'd be honored.  But overall, have fun and snag all the graphics you like.   Love you bunches, Kathryn

thank you for that info. kathryn, it clarifies some things for me.

May I ask here how to put a graphic on your group billboard as you have. they have directions from about 20 people in the C2 host group and i could not follow. I would be taking this picture from my Care2 album.

Peace, C.C.

CC, sure no problem with helping you this morning.  On your group homepage, go to Group Billboard.  Click onto the EDIT button.  Whatever graphics, tag, photo you want to add, paste it onto the new page that looks a lot like a REPLY TO page.  Type in whatever you'd like, etc... and then click preview and then save.  It's  pretty simple.  If this doesn't help, I'll look at another way for you. Love ya, Kathryn

Well, I created an account. I used a throw away email address, and you don't have to give any personal information.
But in order to crop and rotate pictures you have to get their advanced program. So I clicked that, didn't see anything saying I had to pay. But the plug ins won't work with my browser.
This computer is very fussy, and since it's the only one I have right now, I try not to upset it.
Looks like a cute program.

Is it ok to snag a graphic then use free online image editing tool to add my own name and other embellishments without overstepping boundaries?

I am still trying , but this all so new that I want to make sure I do it properly.

Thanks for any response of assistance.  Thank y ou.

Photobucket question September 24, 2008 9:45 AM

It's me again.  I have been trying to take a photo from my album in Photobucket and copy and paste it to the "Free Online Image Editor" program I found, after copy and pasted I did finally manage to get it to show up on the editing site, and attempted to enter test to the tag, but that is where I got stuck, on PB I copied the direct link code to the Image Editor and that worked, then I coukln't add any effects to it.  I greatly appreciate any info you can give me.  Thanks and have a great day.  Got to go put the baby down for a nap.

Hello Anita.  I find that snagging a graphic and saving it to my computer first works better on Free Online Image. You can download the graphix from you computer easier than Photobucket, in my opinion. Then once you've added name/text, etc... then you save the graphic to your computer and then download the image to Photobucket.  It might be a longer process, but I find it works best for me in this manner.  Hopefully this helps you. And yes, you can use any graphix on Free Online Image. Thanks for your questions dear friend. Love ya, Kathryn

book graphics February 18, 2009 9:34 AM

Hi everyone, I'm not a  real new member and I've surfed through lots of times.  You all do a fantastic job.  I admired your skills so very much even when I wasn't "in the market" for graphics.  Now I've been trying to learn the process--I'm learning but not at all swiftly!  LOL

I do have a request, if it isn't too much trouble. Ive been looking for graphics of books--diaries, bibles, library shelves and books.,open books, closed books, books with flowers or pen and ink...whatever you have..

Also, it would be nice to have invitations.  "please be my friend"  "come and join us"  that type of thing...

Carry on guys.  Youre great!

Anita... March 08, 2009 10:54 PM

I just came across your question about putting your name on a
graphic... just make sure the graphic does not have a copyright on it. Anything that has a copyright cannot be altered. Hope
this helps!

do we need to change the name of the graphics before saving them to our computer?

[ send green star]  [ accepted]

 April 08, 2009 5:32 AM

Tami, whenever you save anything to your computer, especially graphix, pictures, etc... it is best to rename it.  It's called stealing from that person if you do not change it. That's what I've been told and I just find it's easier for me to find a graphix if I rename it anyway. So, I hope this answers your question. And thank you for asking.  Any more questions, please feel free to ask away.   Kathryn

Vondi, I would love to find "invite" graphix for you. If we can't find any, I know there's several of us that would love to make some for you.  I apologize for just now getting in this thread to answer your question/request. Love you bunches, Kathryn

 April 08, 2009 5:40 AM

Melanie, again I failed to check this thread out and answer questions. Please forgive me.  I find after downloading graphix to your computer, it's best to put them into some type of Album.  I use Photobucket.  Once my graphix are in Photobucket, then I click onto the graphix (which brings it to it's original size) right click (copy), then come here to Care2 in the reply topic, right click (paste) and your graphix will appear.   Just don't move your graphix around in Photobucket after you have posted here. If you do, then you'll get that ugly little message that says this Photo is no longer available.  It breaks the link between Photobucket & Care2 if it's moved once it's used.

I hope this helps.  Any more questions, and I promise I'll look more often into this thead to help everyone out.  Thank you Conni, Daria, & Amy for helping out also.   Love ya'll bunches, Kathryn

Dumb question time....  I'm not sure I've been doing this right.  Tell me if I'm not.

I've been copying graphics from here and other places into my computer.

Then I transfer them to my care2 albums and go from there to post them on various threads etc.

Now I keep reading about photobucket (my son promised to help me set up an account there, but so far we haven't gotten it done)  Yaaaaah!  Do I need that to make this work?

So this is my question:  IS it okay to do it the way I've described? I mean, it's been working, but maybe that isn't right....

Do I have to use photobucket?

Also, once a picture is in my care2 album or in a photobucket account, may I erase it from my own computer storage?

Sorry, guys, I don't mean to be so dense, but y'all are a font of information!  And I love you for it!

Vondi, good news sweetie, you're doing the right thing. Question for you though. When you snag a tag/graphix and save it to your computer, are you changing the name of it? For instance, if I post a graphix and my name for it is say "Cat1" and you want to snag the same tag/graphix, you would save it and you could put "Tabby1" for you.  Folks would call it "stealing" if you don't change the name when you save it to your computer.  I had to learn that one the hard way.

Yes, once you have stored the tag/graphix to an online album, you can delete/erase it from your computer.

As for Photobucket and Care2 Albums, they are both good resources to have.  Photobucket is great for me. I hold thousands of graphix in the 3 accounts I have. Yep, I did say 3. LOL!!!! But you can use any online photo album of your choice.  So, you're doing it correctly using your Care2 Album.  And just know, no question asked is the dumbest question. So, we're here for you. Love you lots Vondi.  Kathryn

I use Photobucket also.  I find it easy to load images and I like the format.  It's so easy to search for images on Photobucket and save them right to your own albums.

Kathryn, quite some time ago ( possibly a couple years) I was told/or read somewhere not to change the name of files.   I know I've gone to sites where they have graphics to share and they say you can save them but not to change anything as it is their work.   I'm confused. I've done both.

 May 13, 2009 9:10 AM

Daria, when someone says not to change anything, they are speaking of the graphix itself.  In several groups I snag from, they will tell you whether you can add/delete from their graphix.  This even includes adding names to a graphix.  So, to be on the safe side, if I see someone's water mark or name anywhere on the graphix, I don't use them. Now, don't get me wrong, sometimes I do use them.  Now, if it's copyrighted, I definitely don't use them.  There's a fine line with graphix and their usuage. Whenever you snag a tag, it's considered stealing if you don't change the name of the tag when you save it to your computer.  Now I learned that about 2 years ago. So, to be on the safe side, just change the name when saving it to your computer. Hopefully I made sense while typing this.

I'm afraid I'm confused about hotlinking. I always save to my own computer and then transfer to photobucket, then when I want to use a graphic from my account, I right click & copy. Then when I go to my group, I paste. Recently I was told this was hotlinking because I was using someone else's bandwidth. What am I doing wrong? And whose bandwidth would I be using if it's from my account? I was told I had to type in the url from the box below the picture and then paste that into the box from the toolbar where it says add a graphic. Any help to clear this up would be appreciated.

Karen, as far as I know you're doing it correctly.  It's my understanding that bandwidth stealing/hotlinking is when you go to a site or someones pics and copy and paste them right from there.( not saving them to your computer first).  If you save them to your computer..and as Kathryn said..change the file name, upload to PB and post from there..you're fine.  :o)

Question July 23, 2009 12:24 AM

There are graphics that have a space to fill in.

How do I type in a message?

Michelle, there are several free online image editors that you can use to add text to graphix.  They are real easy to use & have several types of fonts/colors to use.

This link here is the one I commonly use.

Hope this answers your question. Kathryn

Revonia, yep, Photobucket is actually the best place to keep graphics.  Care2Albums allow you to do the same, but their space is limited.  So, I choose to use Photobucket and yet to have any problems with it. I apologize for taking so long in getting into this thread to give you an answer.  Love ya, Kathryn
