anonymous Are your cosmetics safe? July 16, 2007 7:13 AM

Hello everyone!

If anyone would like to check their safety of the beauty and bath products you use in your home:

http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php?nothanks=1

I was very surprised when I first found this above site to see that so many very reputable cosmetic companies not only test on animals, but add chemicals to our products that cause cancer!!! You can also check if your product tests on animals.

anonymous Creme de la mer too :( July 16, 2007 8:09 AM

When I fist found this site I was SHOCKED that so many were bad Im happy its helping you also Sophia!!! Im so delighted that I found this site as before many of my "natural" cosmetics were actually causing me so many problems and I didn't know they were the cause.

Crem de la mer one of the most expensive skin care products contains cancer causing chemicals! I was so happy that I never paid the $300 a jar etc! .. I soon told my friends about that and they were not happy at all.

Are your Cosmetics safe? July 16, 2007 10:39 AM

Many women buy their cosmetics without thinking if the products are cruelty free or not. Vey often consideration is given to the fact that some celebrity is using that product. It is consoling to know that this group is  formed to give stress on the question whether or not the cosmetics we use are cruelty free or not. I wish the group success!! Thank you Sophia for the effort and for the invite.

Dutch organization July 16, 2007 11:30 PM

I am a member for I think almost 20 years of a Dutch organization that provides information about non animal testing products, also for cosmetics.

They have a guide for products free from animal testing.

The url is Dutch, but you can look up some brands and perhaps you can buy them also in other countries.

I just checked my make-up products, Bare Escentuals mineral makeup and it actually was in the low-risk range except for their lip products which were in the low end of the moderate range, so if they are not tested on animals I will continue to use; this is the best makeup I have ever used; it is not heavy, doesn't break your skin out, lets it breathe and yet provides good coverage; its good for dry or oily skin, very pretty colors in the shadows and blushes too.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

SPF??? + You know you're obsessed with MAC when....
I just read on another LJ community that in order for a product to have an official SPF rating the US FDA requires animal testing to establish the SPF.
Does anyone know if this is true? MAC doesn't test on animals and don't the foundations have SPF in them? I know my studio finish matte has SPF 8 and the new prep and prime line has something with SPF also. Whats the deal with this?

I will find his site again.

BTW Sophia, you have the most Serene beautiful voice I have ever heard! Im surprised (puzzled completely confussed you don't have Queen status in the Music world Im sure you will be the most famous singer of all time! Very seriously I will definately buy your album when it comes out.

Bloom cosmetics are very beautiful but nt for stage.. too light. They have a gorgeous light pink... the two I have used are called "Princess" its light Pink but maybe too light. A nuetral Pink.. sort of a Beige Pink is called "Doll". It contains Aromatherapy ingredients so they smell very nice. They do not test on animals

Bloom:  http://www.bloomcosmetics.com

But for Vegan make-up:

Golden Glow also have two lines of Make-up on their website that are natural:

http://www.goldenglow.com.au/default.asp

I will try to remember some of the good brands I use LOL! I will go have a look through my make-up bag LOL I haven't been wearing any make-up these past weeks, giving my skin a break

Zuzu Luxe is meant to be Vegan Stage Make-up.

But I can't find there official website.. just many Vegan Artists talking about the product online. Anyone know of Zuzu Luxe?

Back to the search, just checking out MAC if it's safe etc.. If it tests on animals..

I found some Zuzu Luxe here however it looks like only one or two products

http://www.gabrielcosmeticsinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=3

Another Makeup line that apparently doesn't test is RAMY....

But the products are only semi-safe on your skin

RAMY... Is the Make-up artist who studied in Sydney then went back to New York.. he has made a good attempt at trying to make his make-up both safe and natural.

http://www.ramybeautytherapy.com/

So far that looks like the safest choice for stage make-up, however I had a look at Bloom.. they had many foundation items.. base and eye shadow base and so on... so perhaps its got stage potential.. I used to wear Bloom on stage (Ballet ... LOL.. A distant memory

The above link will lead you to the foundation range of Bloom.. I used to wear it as a Ballerina LOL.. however your much more prominant on stage than I was (moving around LOL) .. so I don't know but it looks ... like it could be ok.

MAC 8:16 AM

Did you know MAC is owned by Estee Lauder?.. ... I didn't know that.. anyway.

Here is a link to the safest MAC product and it still contains Cancer causing chemicals.. it would be great if you could use RAMY or Bloom.. I think its a matter of testing them.

News: The Soap Star of Our Green Business Network

soap

Since 1995, Maggie Hanus, owner of A Wild Soap Bar in Manor, Texas, has had one passion – all-natural soap.  That's when she taught herself the art of soap-making in the kitchen of her log cabin outside of Austin and decided that being a green entrepreneur was the right next step for her.  Since then, each step of the way, as her business has developed, Maggie has committed to building her business sustainably.

"We re-use all boxes and packaging materials and use biodegradable corn starch packing peanuts," says Maggie.  "All company literature and product labels are printed on recycled 100-percent post-consumer paper.  Our natural products are biodegradable, cruelty-free, mostly vegan, and minimally packaged or not packaged at all.  In addition to reducing, reusing, and recycling, we offset 100 percent of our manufacturing and shipping carbon emissions."
