Humpback whales, bald eagles and wolves are recovering thanks to the Endangered Species Act. But as they prepare to leave office, the Bush Administration is planning one last gift for its industry allies: gutting the Endangered Species Act from top to bottom. If they succeed, over a thousand endangered species will be threatened with extinction without recourse. Recovery successes like the bald eagle and grizzly bear will be a thing of the past.

A leaked draft of the plan shows Bush's intent to do away with the requirement to recover species.  Bush's plan also gives states veto power over reintroduction programs and allows the destruction of critical habitat areas. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

For more than 30 years, the Endangered Species Act has provided critical protections for America's wildlife and the ecosystems upon which they depend. It has saved hundreds of species from extinction and put many more on the road to recovery.

The Harp Seal Hunting : more deaths year after year.

In early March, hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals call out to their mothers, alone on the ice for the first time. But then the sealing ships arrive. A scene of peace and innocence becomes a makeshift factory of terror and cruelty as the ice is covered in blood.

These helpless baby seals, some as young as two weeks old, are clubbed or shot to death for their fur. Many will even be skinned alive or die trapped under the ice after being injured. The "hunter" usually tries to dispatch the seal before killing and skinning them. The methods include: kicking in the face and/ or beating the babys on the head with clubs or hakapiks. Then the sealer proceeds to skin the animal. Tell to Canada Government what you think about the harp seal hunting. Tree Nation will send it to Mr. Stephen Harper, the Canadian prime minister.

The Heart of Borneo's forest area is 1 of the only 2 places on Earth where orang-utans, elephants and rhinoceros still co-exist and where forests are currently large enough to maintain viable populations.

The remaining Borneo rainforest is the only natural habitat  for the endangered Bornean Orangutan . It is also an important refuge for many endemic  forest species, and the Asian Elephant , the Sumatran Rhinoceros  and the Bornean Clouded Leopard .

I'm relieved to say it's been a week or two since anyone has written to ask me if the activities depicted on the Bonsai Kitten Website (user discretion advised) are real.

Clearly, they are not.

Even so, the site, which purports to describe "the lost art of body modification in housepets" (consisting basically of stuffing small kittens into glass jars), has offended and angered quite a large number of people. Probably just as many are baffled by the fact that anyone takes Bonsai Kitten seriously.    I've sighed.  Yes the religious right is a scarry thing, imposing their 'values' on everyone else.

   The particular case sighted were parents of different faiths, and one chose to use that difference as a weapon to hurt the other parent.

   Yes, it is wrong that a judge, any judge would would support that possition, but the family courts in this country will take away children at the drop of a pin because that is how their department gets more money.  The child welfare portion of our government is one of the greatest abuses of power in this country, that is why they have to change their name/initials so often.

Save Marine Wetlands - Honduras Mangroves

This is a mangrove forest. Beautiful, and a haven for all kinds of marine and land life. Mangrove forests are one of the last marine wetlands, and are one of the fastest disappearing.

And why? For SHRIMP. Yes, they're being destroyed for cheap shrimp. Shrimp farms chop down the mangrove forests which take hundreds of years to form, and replace them with big ponds full of cheap shrimp for sale in the west.

Thomas E. Jones and Tammy Bristol of Indianapolis have been ordered by Judge Cale Bradford of Marion Superior Court to "shelter" their child from their religion.

The First Amendment and court rulings are clear that
parents have a fundamental right to raise their children in any religion they choose.

Thomas E. Jones and Tammy Bristol both practice the Wiccan religion - a pagan, Earth-centered faith. There were an estimated 1 million pagans worldwide in 2002. In the United States pagan believers have larger numbers than those who practice Sikhism, Taoism and several other religions that are recognized as "established".

Judge Cale Bradford has failed to demonstrate how the
beliefs of Mr. Jones and Ms. Bristol are harmful to the
child, other than saying they may cause confusion. This order has been inserted into a divorce decree in which the parents have no disagreements in regards to the religious training of their child. Both parents desire that the child be raised according to their shared beliefs. Judge Bradford has blatantly violated these peoples' First Amendment rights.

Judge Cale Bradford has committed an extremely serious act of discrimination against these people and their religion. Judge Cale Bradford has proven himself to be a danger to the well being of the citizens of the state of Indiana and he must be removed from the Judiciary of the state of Indiana.

In an effort to thwart the non-confidence vote Canada's Prime Minister is apparently going to approach Queen Elizabeth at the Pope's funeral to ask her to dissolve the law that allows such a vote.

Please write to Queen Elizabeth and tell her that you are a citizen of the world and have no confidence in Paul Martin as Canada's Prime Minister because he insists on a brutal massacre of infant seals in an utterly vicious manner against the wishes of his own country and the world.

We, the undersigned, are outraged at the refusal of a request to list a Pagan/Wiccan Study Group - Magickal Moon in the Salisbury Post, which is located in Salisbury, North Carolina. The reason given for the request by the FAITH Copy Editor was both ignorant and discriminatory. "The Salisbury Post FAITH section is for people who believe in God" and "this is not the image that The Post wants to portray."

We fail to see how denying a Pagan/Wiccan study group an equal space with other congregations fulfills this mission statement. The decision was made with personal prejudices and not handled with a professional demeanor.

Regardless of whether or not Paganism is The Salisbury Post's religion, it is our religion. The Federal Government recognizes Paganism/Wicca, as an official religion. Military Courts of Justice in the U.S. have also found Wicca to be a valid religion, deserving of protection under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. In the case United States v. Phillips, (42 M.J. 346) in 1995) the concurring opinion by Judge Wiss stated: "First, Wicca is a socially recognized religion. It is acknowledged as such by the Army. See ‘Dept. of the Army (DA) Pamphlet 165-13-1, Religious Requirements and Practices of Certain Selected Groups: A Handbook for Chaplains’ (April 1980), revising A Pamphlet 165-13, ‘Religious Requirements and Practices of Certain Selected Groups: A Handbook for Chaplains’ (April 1978). Further, it is acknowledged as such in courts of law."

Pagans and Wiccans are a part of your community. We are your neighbors, your coworkers, your children's teachers; we are professionals, but most importantly we are your readers - your customers! As engraved on your building and imprinted on the Opinion/Editorial page of the paper "The truth shall make you free"; misconceptions about pagans, and being denied access to public forum makes it all the more difficult for the truth to make any of us free.

Equally numerous and frighteningly frequent were last year's cases of puppies, dogs and cats being intentionally shot by hunters.

WE WANT TO CHANGE THE LAW THAT ALLOWS IT AND STOP THIS MONSTRUOUS DEMONSTRATION OF BARBARISM AND HATRED.

In the small town of Stobrec, which is a suburb of Split-the second biggest city in Croatia, is going to happen an environmental hazard.
In area of Stobrec, unpolluted beaches and clear sea, will vanish. This area and local residents are endangered by developmental project, which includes effusions of industrial and domestic toxic water, rubbish and sanitation of all Split region (about 125 000 residents).

The problem is that local government is not intending to put biological-chemical purifier, but only mechanical. Also they are intending to put the drain only 1,8 kilometres from coast.
