Fear Factor and the rat blender November 06, 2004 7:48 AM

This is the most disgusting thing I have ever heard. Fear Factor is going to be putting rats in a blender as part of their 100th episode. I just sent a complaint and if you can get the word out to others I'd like to see a lot of people write in to say this is not on. The like to the contact page for NBC is: http://www.nbc.com/nbc/footer/Contact_Us.shtml Go down to the bar that lists shows and click on Fear Factor. What will be next, cracking rabbit skulls and sucking out their brains?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Well, I sent a polite but extremely patronising e-mail.  [ send green star]

Rats in a blender. November 06, 2004 6:15 PM

These sort of activities or games they partake in is absolutely ludicrous. What sort of vile, disgusting, repulsive, sick minded people gain or get out of doing such foul things is beyond me. Who ever or what ever came up  with the idea of these inhumane activities must be a twisted, warped, depraved soul who is in need of serious psychological help.

What is this world coming to?!?! November 06, 2004 8:32 PM

I hate these reality shows!! These people really need to seek psychiatric help. This is so sad. I will be posting this topic in my Animal Rights 101 group to spread the word. I hate Survivor, Fear Factor - any kind of reality show that uses animals in these grotesque ways - it doesn't need to be like this!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Actually, I hope my e-mail wasn't too patronising or they'll dismiss it as another stuck-up Brit...

But really rats are so trusting it's just EVIL to abuse that.

I'm pretty sure they will disregard any emails of complaints. I think this show thrives on the controversy. It was my thoughts exactly about rats, they are so trusting. I watched part of another movie not long ago where a kid keeps dangling this rat over his snake who refuses to eat it. It was making me sick watching, the only saving grace was that the snake eventually swallowed his OTHER hand while it was dangling in the terrarrium. People can be so stupid.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Yep, they disregarded my complaint.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I was talking to a friend who hates rats.... November 08, 2004 6:51 AM

She was talking about news stuff and I mentionned the rat blender thing. She hates rats and I have to keep my boys well out of sight of her when she visits. But even she said that was out of line. I've gotten mostly support from people when I mention we should complain about it. Thanks for helping to bolster the complaint.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Fear Factor November 08, 2004 10:08 AM

I hate to be a black cloud of news but writing to those people is a pure waste of time.  When they first started using rats and other animals in their shows, there were thousands of letters written and petitions sent in protest, only to be answered by a form letter, which means they don't even read them!  As far as they are concerned, the animals which are alive and used, are with animal wranglers so that makes it all right and the ones that are dead, well that's ok with them.  They must have real high ratings to ignore all the protests they get, which basically means we animal lovers are in the minority, and are completely ignored.  Apparently there are a lot of sick people out there who enjoy watching this crap and the contestants are no better either.  That's my 2 cents worth on the subject.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I've found recently that speaking up doesn't accomplish anything... November 08, 2004 10:07 PM

..but I'm going to keep doing it anyway.  It just makes me violently angry.  I can't even tell my husband or he'd throw a fit and call them up screaming.

There was a "rock band" that did all kinds of bizarre things with dead animals on stage and put rats in a blender (no one documented whether they were already dead).  Despite all the complaints they only had their show cancelled because they were planning to have a live suicide during their show.

People are incredibly sick.  It makes me sad to be alive sometimes.

Yeah... well I'm quite happy to be alive and that's exactly the reason it's evil not to give that chance to rats. I don't know what evil is, but WHAT gives people such a thrill from sick stuff like that?  [ send green star]
