What is ok to keep potions or mixtures in? Is glass better than plastic?

Hmmmmm... Good question!!!! I've just always used Glass because I prefure the feel of glass to plastic.... I suppose that it would depend on what you are going to put in your potion... I know that some essentiial oils can be rather strong, and I wouldn't put a potion containing such in plastic

I NEVER use plastic to store magickal things. With plastic being made from chemicals I don't want that influance in my magick. I use glass. I like mason jars, old jelly jars that I clean out well, any glass that I can reuse I do. Also the mason jars you can buy by the case in all different sizes at Walmart really cheap. they are tight fitting & can be sterilized which I do if I am putting a healing salve in or other healing potion of any kind.I also sterilize the jars b4 putting in lotions or bath potions. Like I said it is just my opinion but I never use plastic, also when using plastic, chemical influance aside, if you want to reuse the container, more often than not, you can't because plastic has a tendency of absorbing the scent of whatever is in it. Think about left over pasta sauce that you put in a tupperware. Well, I hope my 2 cents helps.
I also prefer glass for potions and/or mixtures. I keep my candles and incense and charcole in tupperware to keep my dog from eating them (he likes the smell, I guess) and harming himself. For everything else, it's glass.
Someone told me glass preserves better than plastic.Of course in what regards to cooking oil I favour plastic because I still remember the nighmare my poor Mom went through cleaning the mess after breaking a bottle of oil by accident when I was still a kid...

I remember having to throw away some tupperware that I had gathered a large collection of piñon pine sap in because it wouldn't come out.
I decided it was glass from then on because the glass is slick enough to get clean and I can boil it to make sap and was & things float out.....And glass comes with all these other things, so it's as if it's free.
I like a "glass pantry" that sparkles. It makes me feel rich somehow.
Altho, I see more and more food products being put into plastic....I'm not liking that.

Definitely glass... there's plenty of ways to find glass containers too.. from reusnig glass bottles and jars to jelly jars... I know these can be found at flea markets, yard sales.. junk sellers almost always have jelly jars/canning jars of various sizes..
Plastic absorbs too many odors and also have a way different feel to them.. cheap, unsubstantial.. Glass is heftier and has a more permanent feel... I even keep cooking spices in jelly jars in my little spice cabinet and it works well... I can label them easily with stickers and you can see much easier through the glass than with plastic to know what you're grabbing..
Ideally, I go with glass. Old pickle jars, bottles found in the ground, whatever. But, I also have small children so I do have some things in plastic. The danger is just too great to even try to have all glass.
Thank you for all you responses! I feel weird using plastic as well but for the only mix I have made so far I had no choice but to use a plastic tube with a cork in it. I am hoping to be able to buy some glass containers. I have some baby food jars that I have saved and I will be using them.

Baby food jars are a great idea! I recylcle those big glass pickle jars and use them to store lots of things like baged herbs, incense, candle chunks (I make my own), etc... I do have a few plastic containers that I keep magaizines and craft supplies in though.

I like glass for liquid, and some vegitation (cuttings ,etc) but I do sometimes use plastic baggies to deliver fresh cut herbs to friends and aquaintances from work. I get my glass bottles with corks from some of the "cheap" stores like Wal-Mart and Big Lots for close to a buck. And a lot of times a local craft store will have something appropriate at a decent price.
