Are You A Child Of The Sixties? March 10, 2007 11:24 PM

Well if so what do you have to share with the children of today?

Well?

Any values you had/have that you hope todays Hippies would/should carry on? Are you making an effort to instill your values in our youth? You can be damn sure Republicans are making an effort to instill their values in our youth.

Civil Disobedience for positive change in public policies March 11, 2007 10:44 AM

Civil Disobedience has two meanings - both of which are important.

1. making a public nuscience of yourself, for a cause you believe is right. - be willing to go to jail... be willing to be abused by authority... and get the press' attention whereever and whenever possible.

2. be civil while being disobedient!  it defeats the purpose of your protest, to adopt the same means of abuse as those you are protesting against.

  It is difficult to remain peaceful while being lied to, lied about, abused, and refused your civil liberties - TOUGH!  this is a form of warfare, don't expect to not get hurt... be smart, make sure all your injuries and injustices happen on video!

Love and Peace   oh, and bandaids and gasmasks too

oh,

and if yer gonna smoke pot - make it a sacrament... it's a living thing - ya gotta respect it, like everything else...

The more aware you are, the more responsible you have become. - no denial allowed beyond the auspices of ego.

Lessons of the sixties May 12, 2007 12:08 PM

Howdy folks

I think the most important lesson is:

Question authority.  Always.

And no matter what generation, but especially for younger folks -- Don't believe everything you see or hear.  Always check things out for yourself.

Oh yeah : ) and keep smiling : )

For those that were around, I'm sure you remember this:

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Hello everyone!  Yes, you could say I am a "BABY BOOMER"

a Child of the 60's   .. Maybe one could even say I am...   In some ways, okay that may be politically correct but ...  I remember when "pimp" meant something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than what it means today, same with several other words such as, sick, bounce etc. and so on...

bug.gif (8537 bytes)

I remember "Saddle Shoe's, Hip-Hugger's, Bellbottoms, Tye-dye, Fringe, Pot, Go-Go Boots, Baby-Doll Shirts, Jemi Hendrix & Woodstock, ". The Flashback's remind me of how great those days were (jk  lol).

Isn't it funny how they're all coming back into style, especially sometime's as a mix match of style era's.

Never burned my bra, just never wore them!  Love going barefoot, still use words/phrases like, Cool Man, Far Out, Freak Out, Turn On, Turn Off, Doobie etc., etc.

I'm stubborn, willing to fight for what I believe in, dislike "authority" a great deal & don't mind speaking my mind.  I've been called a rebel, a hippie and a "teenage adult", among other things

So Glad to meet all you other Hippie's, sure we will get to know one another better through post communication etc., until then Take Care all..

"Hang in there & Peace Out"..

hello May 17, 2007 9:51 AM

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l265/JoAnn_011/60s.gif Hello I ran away from home when I was 13 and went to San Francisco,and lived with my hippy family for the next 5 years. I thank God for all of them when I went there I was filled with hate from my home life,but I learned to forgive,and to make my life what I wanted it to be,to question authority when I knew it was wrong. The music of the 60 was what changed the world,I sat on the streets and ate food with Janis before she was a hit.I was in the big riot that happened in 69,and saw so many of my friends beet down and hurt,and decieded that I would take the love I had found there with me for ever and have tryed to do that.LOL Iam making Tye Dye shirts this sat with my youth group,and talking about the 60 and what we learned. Peace to all Jo Ann..  [ send green star]

Hi Every Child of the 60's May 17, 2007 10:08 AM

I am so thrilled to see you carrying on the wonderful traditions you learned in the 60's. Whether it is the life honoring value system or the Tie Dye fashion (I used to be known as the Tie Dye Lady in my neighborhood when I hung drying shirts from my trees). Let us continue that which brings joy!  [ send green star]

Being a sixty year old man that was a Marine in Vietnam in 68 and 69. I also spent  from the end of 69 till the END of the Vietnam War protesting against the war. I hope the Hippies of this new generation will get involved in stopping this war in Iraq. How many times must our government make the same mistake. We must never get involved in a Civil War. First Korea then Vietnam and today Iraq. I believe that we as a nation and a people that we can learn that Piece is better then War. That only through talking with our enimies can we make this world a safer place. We must all learn to live toether in PEACE. I just hope that this new generation will keep the fight going for world peace an answer to Global warming and freedom to all.  [ send green star]

Sure Am February 16, 2008 7:19 AM

Believe me I AM A CHILD OF THE SIXTIES !!!!! So many times I find myself wishing that I could just close my eyes and be back to the sixties again.

All that has happened to me is that I got old. Today I find myself doing what I did back then, right out of the Marine Corp from Vietnam protesting the WAR. Well here it is 2008 and here I am back in Washington Maching against the WAR. It was a great time to live. The War in my life sucked, but the friends in Vietnam and the ones at the marches where the best friends ever. The feeling of each of us all together taking care of each other. The way life can be lived if just everyone would just give it a chance. Yes I am a child of the Sixties

Oh, absolutely!  Two summers ago when my nephew was turning 13 he asked what life was like for me as a teenager. I did the only respectable thing a child of the 60's could do; I took him to Greenwich Village for the day.  Though there are barely remnants of days gone by, still there was something in the air and he breathed it in.

Child of the Sixties August 18, 2008 1:17 PM

I can't rememeber the Sixties not for the reasons most people have but becuase I was born in 1969 on April 21st.  Right before Woodstock i always wonder if I was one of the babies you see in the pictures of the event.  I can do this becuase I am adopted and do not know if real parents were hippies or not.  My adopted parents were what you consider square.  They were never hippies they were straitlaced all the way.
