I use www.fco.gov.uk for information about countries I am visiting. I occasionally look at the US and Australian equivalents but don't have them saved as favourites.

A website for the green traveller.... August 18, 2005 5:32 AM
Seat61.com
This website is the work of one man, Mark Smith, whose favoured seat 61 on Eurostar trains led him to put together a list of times and directions of how to get to almost any city in the world by train. With enough detail to make it quirky but not so much that it becomes inaccessible, Seat61.com is a must for anyone wishing to reduce their ecological footprint by using a more sustainable form of transport.
The name implies that it covers just UK weather but the travel section is useful. I am off tomorrow morning to Gothenburg in Sweden for a long weekend so used the site to see if I need to take rain gear or sun cream! Sadly, it looks as if I am in for showers!
Well Pat, I can say that the VisitScotland site is a very serious one. Last year I submitted a request on the site and they sent me a wonderful package of (paper) brochures about Scotland.
Some similar sites are http://www.visitshetland.com (Shetland Islands from the north of Scotland) and http://www.visitorkney.com (Orkney Islands from the same region). They both offer free brochures and newsletters.
But the best site about Scotland, with wonderful images and a modern design is the alternative for the official site:
http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk
I always keep the site in my bookmarks and I frequently visit it only to relax. It has a lot of pictures of ancient monuments (the age of Stonehenge) and maps with the places where we can find them.
Thank you.

Customised Driver/Guided Tours of the UK and Europe September 27, 2006 3:23 AM
Hi Fellow Geo Trekkers. Whilst being a well-travelled Geo Trekker myself, I also offer a customised driver/guided tour service for visitors to the UK and Europe. I thought that members might like to know about my website. This is an unashamed plug but I am very proud of what I do. I tailor an itinerary to meet the needs of small groups of 2-6 individuals, taking in whatever they would like to see and experience. I meet the party on arrival and accompany them throughout their stay, providing historical and cultural insights in a friendly, conversational way. Curt Bellfy, a Geo Trekker based in Phoenix has experienced one of my 'sojourns'. He recommended that I post this message. For more information check out my website at www.uk-sojourning.com I would welcome feedback from Geo Trekkers on the site content (and of course any enquiries). John Greenwood
