Hi Veronica-thank you for inviting me to be a member of your new group! I feel honored to be a member and I would love to learn about your home country! I know a bit of history as European History was my undergraduate major along with psychology-I had 36 hours of Russian history, French, history, Austrian history, English history-I loved it all! So I would love to hear about the history of your country. I studied history from the beginning of time (anthropology classes) to WWII and the present. I am a willing student! And I love discussions. I will check in as often as I can...please be patient w/me as I am involved in a lot of volunteer projects in "real" life and my time on computer is somewhat limited these day...I'm so glad you started this group. I know this will be a success! peace, love and hugs, jennieb

heloooo, to you all...... September 30, 2007 3:55 AM
and i have to tell you i am so happy to find you all , here!!!!!!!!it's such a good feeling to have you , my good friends, in my new createrd group!
yesterday i was thinking..... what a nice country i live in.... so many beauties, everywhere, so unknown..... such nice places, such interesting geography, mentalities, because there are living here all together in good friendship, romanians, hungarians, germans, jewish, serbians, bulgarians[these are minorities, of course, the last ones], so, why not to tell you about, about i know, lol.....
sorry for i came only now, but in the last time my network fails all the time, hope, it will not happen again today....
i have also, to tell you, perhaps, most of you know, from monday till friday i'm not in the city , but on the countryside, so i'll be able, only to create new topics, lol, from my cell phone, so, please excuse me for this inconvenient, but, in the weekends, hopefull, we'll be together.... when you'll have time and mood for it!
so, please be free to put all questions you wish, i'll try to answer to all, perhaps not always online, but a little later...
also, you have to excuse me if i do so many mistakes, grammar mistakes, but as the english is not my native language, you'll be so kind to fogive me!!!????? thank you
I did visit your country once a long time ago. I was in Bulgaria on holiday with my parents and we went on a day trip over the border and I can tell you I was GOBSMACKED at the beauty. It was like stepping back in time. The countryside was so unspoiled, everything was rustic and old. Hardly ANY cars!! People were harvesting by hand! I also saw 'Dracula's' castle, nestled on a mountainside amongst a forest. It was absolutely amazing. I hope it hasn't changed much from then. I'd love to visit again one day. Another thing I noticed (although I was young) was that the men were sooooo handsome!!!

yes, they are handsome..... October 01, 2007 12:42 AM
INDEED, MOST OF THEM ARE HANDSOME,,,LOL, STILL, AFTER THE REVOLUTIOIN FROM 1989 THEY ARE ENOUGH....AGRESSIVE
I'M SO GLAD TO SEE YOU ARE INTERESTED, I'M GLAD TO HAVE YOU HERE!
I HAD FEW YEARS AGO A VERY GOOD GERMAN FRIEND, AND HE SAID THE SAME, DEAR ALF, THAT ALL IS SO NATURAL, SO UNSPOILED, HERE....WAS, INDEED.... AND STILL, IN SOME PLACE THERE IS... HE ALWAYS SAID IT CANT BE FIND IN OCCIDENT PLACES LIKE THESE, SO NATURAL, AS GOD LET THEM, THERE ARE IN HIDDEN PLACES OLD VILLAGES, WHEN DO YOU GO THERE YOU FEEL LIKE AT THE BEGINNING OF 20 CENTURY, OLD HOUSES, OLD FORESTS, NICE PLAINES.
BUT, NOW, AS WE ARE PART OF EU, WE BEGUN TO MODERNISE EVERYTHING... IT'S GOOD, BUT LITTLE BY LITTLE THESE OLD PLACES WILL DISAPPEAR.
I'M NOT SURE, DEAR ALF THAT YOU SEE DRACULA'S CASTLE....BECAUSE,HTERE IS PELES CASTLE, THE ROYAL CASTLE, I'LL TRY TO FIND SOME PICTURES ABOUT. THIS PELES WAS MUSEUM FEW YEARS AGO AND DRACULA'S CASTLE- ALIAS BRAN -CASTLE WAS NOT OPENED FOR THE PUBLIC, IT IS ONLY FEW YEARS AGO...I WILL TRY TO FIND ALSO PICTURES FROM IT...BUT YES, IT'S A VERY , VERY NICE COUNTRY WITGH MOUNTAIN, BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS, LARGE FIELDS, THE BEAUTIFUL DANUBE DELTA, THE BLACK SEA AND SO MANY, MANY NICER PLACES... I WILL TELL YOU ABOUT ALL....AND I'LL ASK ALSO THE ROMANIAN FRIENDS TO TELL YOU.... BYE FOR NOW , DEAR GOOD FRIENDS, GOD BLESS YOU ALL
AS MOST OF YOU KNOW , I HAVE TO LEAVE YOU NOW FOR FEW DAYS, TILL FRIDAY, BECAUSE I HAVE TO GO ON THE COUNTRYSIDE TO SEE THE DOGS AND CATS FROM MY HUMBLE AND MODESTE 'SHELTER' I GAVE TO THEM THERE AND I RETURN ON FRIDAY, TILL THEN, BE FREE TO POST ALL YOU EISH ABOUT ROMANIA, I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT ARE YOU INTERESTED OF, THERE ARE SO MANY INTERESTING THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT US, SO MANY PLACES WE WILL VISIT TOGETHER, SO WELCOME BE AGAIN HERE, IN MY COUNTRY, EVEN IF NOW ONLY BY 'CYBER', BUT I WAIT YOU WITH MY BEST AND DEEWPEST LOVE OF MY HEARTH! GOOD BYE FOR NOW, HAVE A NICE, PEACEFULL WEEK, ALL OF US,. GOD BLESS YOU ALL OF YOU, FOR ALWAYS, YOUR FRIEND FROM A FAR, STRANGE BUT WONDERFUL COUNTRY, VERONICA LACH
I have learnt about the real Vlad Dracula, and what I learnt was that although he used some brutal methods (and I don't support brutal methods), he was a freedom fighter, a major leader in the campaign to free Romania from the rule of the Turkish empire. I admire him for that.
I like the Romanian countryside, architecture, accent and language, and the name of the country sounds nice too - "Romania". I think I have heard some of the music too, and I like it.
I like Nadia, the young gymnast who made a perfect 10.... (I saw a film about her.)
I don't like Romania's siding with the nazis in WW2, adopting fascist ways, and persecuting minorities. I find it quite disgusting.
Fortunately we can learn from history, use the positive things, and avoid repeating the harmful things, eh, my friends?
I'M SO HAPPY TO HEAR THIS October 01, 2007 7:58 AM
YOU KNOW A LOT OF THINGS, ABOUT US, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! AND, WELCOME! I PROMISE YOU TO FEEL GOOD WITH US, YOU'LL ENJOY OUR GROUP, OUR FUTURE 'CYBER' TRAVELS, ASK ALL WHAT DO YOU WHISH TO KNOW, SHARE WITH US YOUR OPINIONS, IDEAS, WHAT IS MOST FASC INATIONG FOR YOU TO KNOW, I'LL BE BACK ON FRIDAY, AND WILL TALK ABOUT ALL
Thank you, dear Veronica, for the invite! This is a wonderful idea, for us to share everything that is beautiful about our country. There are many things that we are not proud of, but, as a whole, Romania is as beautyful as her people, it is somehow wild, untammed... Sometimes, I wish it stays this way...
As about Dacula... I love him! I don't believe that bloody vampire crap, it can't be true... I respect Vlad Tepes - this was his name. I guess he's the only one in our history who succeded to eradicate the thieves! Good job... (We'd kind of need someone like him nowadays...)
Sorry that wasn't the castle I saw. This one was right in a forest on the side of a mountain. I called it Dracula's castle because it just looked exactly like you would imagine it to look. All stone with lots of spikey bits and looked like it would be very hard to get to. We didn't actually go to it just saw it. Its somewhere near the border of Bulgaria and near the Black Sea.

Acually Alf,I find it quite confusing myself.Went to several sites for info, and discovered one is showing a different castle to be Dracula's one from the other. So I might have done something wrong there. If so,sorry about that.I guess we'll have to wait for Veronica to find out.Hope you enjoy the pictures anyway.

hello to you all, my dear friends, welcome to my old and new friends! October 05, 2007 9:51 AM
yes, elena i absolutely, agree with you, i also admire VLAD TEPES!!!!!LOL!
IT IS VERY HARD TODAYTO SPEAK ABOUT VLAD TEPES , WHO IN PEOPLE'S MIND BECAME DRACULA, THE BLOODY VAMPIRE!STOKER CONTRIBUTEED A LOT TO CREATE THIS IMAGE OF THE CRUEL PRINCE.IT IS NOT TRUE.INDEED, HE WAS A CRUEL BUT VERY RIGHTEOUSE RULER.HE PUNISHED THOSE WHO LIED,STOLE!IN MIDDLE AGE, CRUELTY WAS COMMON.
AFTER SO MANY CENTURIES WE KNOW VERY FEW THINGS BECAUSE THERE ARE FEW TRACES. TO ASSOCIATE VLAD TEPES WITH THE MONSTROUS VAMPIRE IT'S HYSTORICAL FOLKLORE...
WIKIPEDIA WRITES THAT THE SYMBOLE OF HIS FAMILY WAS' DRAGONS ORDER', VLAD TEPES WAS THE SON OF VLAD DRACUL, HE WAS BORN IN1431 AT SIGHISOARA. HI OFICIAL NAME WAS
VLADISLAUS BASARAB -LUXEMBURG USED TO SIGN HIS NAME' DRĂCULEA',AS THE FIRST DOCUMENT MENTIONED HIM IN1459 AND AFTER THE PORTRAIT MADE OF HIM BY ODHSENBACH STAMBUCH.
THE BRASOV'S SAXONS WERE VERY ANGRY ON HIM, BECAUSE HE LEVIED TRANSIT TAXES TO ALL WHO PASSED THROUGH TARA ROMANEASCA [ VALACHIA] TOWARDS BUCHAREST,BULGARIA OR ISTAMBUL. THAT'S REAL THAT HE WAS A VERY HARSH PRINCE AND PUINISHED ALL WHO BETRAYED HIM,BY IMPALEING THEM,I REPEAT HE WAS VERY FAIR AND JUST.
BUT FROM BEING CRUEL, LET'S THINK WHAT THE INQUISITION MADE,TO BE A VAMPIRE.....LOL, IT'S A LONG WAY....
WE CAN ' THANK' BRAM STOKER THAT HE MADE SO VERY [IN]FAMOUS OUR VLAD TEPES!
PROBABLY IS CONFUSING, EVEN IN PEOPLE'S MIND IS CONFUSING, WHICH IS THE SO CALLED DRACULA'S CASTLE.
BY LEGEND BRAN CASTLE IS ASSOCIATED WITH DRACULA, BUT HE SLIGHTLY EVER STEPPED THROUGH THE THRESHOLD OF BRAN CASTLE!
HE SPENT MOST OF HIS LIFE ON THE BATTLEFIELD OR IN HIS CAPITAL CITY, TARGOVISTE!
So if there are buildings that have close connection to VLAD TEPES...THESE ARE!
THEY WERE REBUILT BY VLAD TEPES WHEN HE MOVED TO TARGOVISTE.
THE CASTLE YOU MIGHT HAVE SEEN AT THE BLACK SEA IS PROBABLY 'BALCIC', BUILT BY QUEEN MARIA IN A ROMANTIC BYZANTINE STYLE. HER HEART IS BURIED THERE IN A GOLD CASSETTE.
I COPIED THE POSTS RELATED TO HISTORY IN THE TOPIC CALLED 'A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY', SO PLEASE POST ALL THE HISTORICAL TOPICS THERE, THANK YOU!
[send green star]
Veronica, correct me if I'm wrong but, based on a documentary I've seen a while back on the real "dracula", wasn't he called the "empaler"?

good morning, DEAR NICOLE, October 07, 2007 12:11 AM
HAPPY TO SEE YOU HERE AND ASKING...
ONLY ONE THING I WISH TO ASK YOU ALL MY, FRIENDS, I CREATED SOME NEW TOPICS, CALLED, GEOGRAPHY,A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY, ONE WITH FOLKLORE MUSIC, WHERE, I ASK YOU TO PUT THE QUESTIONS, IN ORDER TO NOT RUN FROM A TOPIC TO ANOTHER, AND LET'S LET ' WELCOME' TO SAY 'HELLO' TO THE NEW FRIENDS.... OK???? PLEASE
SO,VLAD TEPES,THE EMPALER OR DRACULA IT'S THE SAME THING. HE WAS THE SON OF VLAD DRACUL AND HIS REAL NAME WAS VLADISLAUS BASARAB-LUXEMBURG II andUSED TO SIGN ' DRACULEA' WHAT IT MEANS INROMANIAN LANGUAGE :{SON OF) DRACUL
THE CONFUSION IS BECAUSE OF STOKERS' NOVEL ' DRACULA' WHICH ESCRIBES A VAMPIRE, THE COUNT DRACULA,AND IT HAPPENS I THE 19-TH CENTRUY TRANSYLVANIA AND ENGLAND! THIS NOVEL WAS INSPIRED FROM LEGENDS ABOUT VLAD TEPES, ALIAS DRACULA TOLD HIM BY A HUNGARIAN PROFESSOR, ARMINIUS VANBERY,BUT VLAD TEPES TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH STOKERS DRAKULA, IT'S ONLY A FICTION...
I'M VERY HAPPY TO KNOW YOU, DEAR NICOLE, JE SUIS TRES RAVIE QUE TU ES FRANCAISE, MOI , J'AIME LA FRANCE!BEAUCOUP, BEAUCOUP! JE T'EMBRASSE

Thanks for the invitation. I've alway had a real fondness for European architecture. And the countryside is beautiful, as well. I recommend installing Google Earth. I used it the other day to look at Romania - from the sky - and the patterns in the farming areas, just north of Arad is an amazing sight.
Thankyou Veronica for creating such a beautiful place to visit.
My heritage is Russian /Polish and I have a yearning to visit Europe in
the coming years... before I become too old to climb to all the wonderful places. I love the beautiful countryside and the older
castles and architecture very much. My parents lost touch with many relatives due to
WW2...more so my mother who was sent to the German war/concentration
camps. I have been trying to find some information about my family history but not much to work with..
Romania is so utterly mystical which has great appeal to me..
I too associated Romania with Dracula.. I have watched almost every
Dracula film over many, many years.. I have spent part of today
listening to the music and will research more...what beautiful castles.... so many places to see...
Many thanks again.... love and blessings
