Hi Marie July 07, 2009 7:15 AM

Marie thanks for the warm welcome and the star!
I too lost my home about 6 mos after I quit working.  It is a terrible thing to go thru.  we thought it was where our kids would continue to grow up and be our family home forever. I feel for you and will keep you in my prayers.
Do you think your symptoms are in any way associated with the stress you have been under?
I applaud you for HS'ing 5 children! I still have one i'm hsing, she will be in 10th grade this year. Dont know what I will do with myself when she is finished....hsing her has kept me busy and kept my mind occupied these past 6 years. I think I will be lost.

What is your chronic pain from?  DO you go to pain management?
I'm so sorry you lost your garden and property....it is so important for us to have SOMETHING to do to feel useful.

Just wanted to say thank you and I hope you feel better very soon....will keep you in my prayers.
Kim

Very nice to meet you, Kim. I am not doing well and not posting much. I lost my house 2 months ago, where my family and I planted 230 trees, including 70 fruit trees, and built a 700 square foot raised vegetable bed which was enabling me to get the little bit of exercise I need and can handle. This was a great loss, a very senseless loss. I have also been sick for over a month with nausea, dizziness, chills, and way beyond my normal level of pain. I raised and home schooled my 5 kids from preschool to high school in pain, so I'm not new to challenges in life. But I think this is one of my worst challenges ever. I've lost nearly everything and can't get over the nausea and vomiting. I would appreciate any prayers or encouragement I can get right now. Thanks.

New Co-host Kim Intro July 06, 2009 5:32 PM

Hi everyone! I have been here a few days trying to familiarize myself with the site.  Figured it was about time to send an intro.

I am a 43 year old mom of 3, registered nurse, disabled for 6 years due to DDD, disk bulging l5/S1; s1 radiculopathy; facet arthrosis and SI joint disorder.  I have been fighting this demon of Chronic pain for 8 years.  HAve been in Pain Management for 7 years....been thru the gamut of injections and other procecures with no significant relief....,finally my doc recommended an Intrathecal pump after a failed SCS trial.
The pump has been a Godsend!  I finally got back part of my life that I lost to the pain.
I have also been fighting for SSD benefits for 6 years and finally won late last year......the most stressful years of my life!! Between dealing with my disability Ins Co and SSDI along with not being able to work in the profession I am passionate about and dealing with the pain, all the meds, procedures, tests and EXPENSE I thought I would lose my mind.
I hope to be able to contribute something here and looking forward to getting to know everyone.  I am having a bout of arm/neck pain right now that is limiting my computer time so not sure how much I will be around in the coming weeks but hopefully will get it sorted out soon.
I have some very interesting info on Vit D that I am looking forward to sharing with everyone in the near future.  I have been researching Vit D recently and the connection between vit d and multiple diseases may surprise you.  According to one doctor vit d deficiency is near pandemic and is associated with many diseases/disorders including chronic pain/fatigue/depression.
All should be having vit d levels checked ....it's becoming a standard test due to the research that has been done in recent years.
Anyhow.....thanks for reading.  Sorry for the long intro.
Hope you all have a great, low-pain week!
God Bless
Kim/VA

Hi to everyone here. I hope you all have some peace and relief heading your way. May you all be too blessed to be stressed.

I suffer muscle/skeletal with chronic pain and some nerve involvement since late 80's progressively worsened until I stopped work mid-90's. Like most of us, I manage this 24/7 pain with medicine and change of lifestyle, diet and rest, hot showers, yoga, hold that mental attitude work as prority more than people know, eh? but, even with all that, don't go anywhere or do anything. I live alone with no family nearby.

I too, like a few others here suffer cspine degenerative dis.disease with 2 forms arthritis, osteo and poly, loss of hearing and sjogrens which affects my vision, fms, cfs, and must be ck'd monthly for thyroid levels.

Divorced from an abusive marriage and awful sep/divorce, mine is now a very quiet life. Still, unable to sit or stand for any amount of time with 20# weight lift limit leaves me unable to be self-supportive. Sometimes the swelling makes walking a hardship but that is sporactic.

The good days are ok but people say I dont look sick and sometimes folks expect too much and I feel out of place when I forget or can't keep up and they might cop an attitude when I park in the front spaces and what not.

I figure people react differently to things they can't see or don't understand and what they cannot see is the tremendous strength and effort it takes to get by minute to minute, just managing all this, well it is tiring.

My doctor listens to my complaints, which for me on a good day is like the flu at best, refills my prescriptions and I go home to survive on SSD best I can. I look forward to being part of the support group. Thanks for having me here.

Faye...I love your positive attitude and you are so right about what we learn from being in daily pain. When I find myself starting to 'whine' to myself, i think of others much worse off, then i can deal with it better.

Great to have you

Hi everyone,I just joined this group and although I already know a few of the people from other groups,it's always good to make new friends.I suffer from degenerative disc disease and suffer pain 24/7 but I refuse to let it ruin my life. One of the payoffs of living with chronic pain is that you understand and have compassion for other people who are suffering. This love for others can really fill up your life and helps you get through the bad times.Pain is neither positive or negative,it is the way in which we deal with it that matters.Pain can bring about great wisdom and can even bring you closer to your authentic self. It's a difficult road some of us need to take and sometimes it can be incredibly hard but when we reach out to someone and they take our hand it makes the journey just that much easier.I look forward to holding hands with all of you,Peace and Love Fayexxxxxxx

Edward...and thank you for introducing yourself...and thank you for the honor of co-hosting your group. I will be in shortly. I think it is amazing what you are doing for the disabled. I, myself, have been 'fighting' the system for 6 years now and am very frustrated with it...my lawyer keeps telling me it won't be much longer...think we have different ideas of 'much longer' as she has been saying that for a year (lol)

Peace & Welcome, C.C.

Hi Everyone May 30, 2009 12:03 AM

Hi Everyone & thank you Rain for your message.
I live in Yorkshire in the north of England & have just moved house back to the picturesque village of Altofts where I grew up & where a lot of my friends & family live.
I've various health & disability problems but the 1 which has caused me chronic pain for the longest is tarsal coalition of both feet-it's the painful form of flat feet.
If this is noticed before the age of about 10 something can be done about it but unfortunately the symptoms otherwise begin to appear at just the age when it's too late to treat-about 12/13 years old.
It's not that well-known about & the only people who can understand how it affects your entire life are other sufferers.
After saying that, however, I wasn't going to give in to it!
I was extremely lucky to have inherited unusual strength from my paternal grandfather, who was born in Galway in Ireland & had the strength of 3 men & was once invited to join a travelling circus as their strongman!
Unfortunately he passed away when I was only 2 years old so I've no memory of him-even more of a shame in that I inherited another gift from him which is my love of animals.
So, unable to participate in the usual sports-anything involving running/jumping, I tried my hand at lifting weights & Martial Arts-Karate 1st then others in later years.
These were ideal as I could do them in bare feet, which is more bearable for longer & I still do them to this day & they became my way of life.
After leaving school I spent 4 years at Art School, also having the gift of artistic ability but I've made my living from being a Martial Arts Instructor & this in turn has helped me to cope with often severe pain-also-being a very determined person has helped lol.
Ange & my 3 furbabies-Tiberius, Kirk & Jet

Hello May 23, 2009 6:05 PM

Hi I'm Jane. I've got 3 beautiful daughters and and grandson due in September. I haven't been able to work in over a year, making it hard financially. I have had to quit several jobs, and even lost jobs, due to my health problems. I'm currently waiting to hear from Social Security about getting SSI. Sure hope I hear from them soon.

I am excited to be a Grandma. I am hoping to be as fun of a grandma as I am as a mom. Which due to health conditions I won't be able do to alot of what I was when my girls were little, but I'm not going to give in and let my body win. I want to be able to get on the floor and play or go out and shoot some hoops when he gets bigger. God willing I will be able the best Grandma ever.

I have 3 bad  discs in my neck, which prevents me from having normal rotation of my head. I also have 3 bad discs in my lower spine, causing most of the pain in my back and legs. I cannot stand or walk for any length of time, without having pain so bad at times I could just cry. I cannot sit or lay in one place for any length of time, or I won't be able to either get up or roll over.

Now to add to my pain last June I broke my foot. After two surgeries I still am having problems. I've had many cortisone shots without relief. My doctor says that he may have to do a couple more surgeries to fuse the bones together. Which doesn't exactly excite me any, since there is no guarantee it will relieve my pain.

The worst problem I have with my foot is that I won't be able to wear any of my shoes. I'm stuck wearing athletic/walking shoes. No more shoe shopping.

I try to find a little humor in everything. Sometimes it helps to forget the pain, but I found that reading the scripture helps me most, along with my search for the fountain of youth.

anonymous Welcome new members March 23, 2009 8:41 AM

Happy Monday to all,

I am Rhia, one of the hosts and I want to welcome the newest members to the group. Thanks for joining and giving your support. Feel free to post information, ask questions, and participate in all ways you feel you can.

I have to keep this short. I had rotator cuff repair surgery last Wednesday, and had to be kept in the hospital two extra days due to the extensive damage and trying to get the pain under control. 2 of my 4 tendons were torn completely from the bone, plus I had bone spurs and other damage that really put me in a world of hurt. On top of that, one of my first nurses that evening after surgery decided NOT to follow doctors orders, and due to her incompentency I did not get my pain meds as I should have. Needless to say there was a huge mess for her. I had two doctors and the head over the nurses and floor involved. I did get my meds on time and was waited on hand and foot. They finally got my pain more under control on Friday so I got to come home. IT will be slow as far as recovery, so be patient with me due to it being slow for me.

I am thrilled to be a part of this group.. and glad to see new people.

Rhia

Greetings All March 06, 2009 8:34 PM

Just a quick note to introduce myself to the group.  I am a 61 year old grandpa with chronic pain in my c-spine and lumbar spine, and arthritis in my hands. I was forced to retire a year ago because I used too much sick leave following two surgeries on my c-spine. That's the sad part.  The good part?  I had enough time with my company that I could retire with a chance to survive. The best part?  I can now spend time with my four grandchildren and my lovely wife!  Ya gotta look for that ray of sunshine, ya know!

Re: [Chronic Pain Relief] Welcome & Plz. Introduce Yourself IV November 28, 2008 10:51 AM

Yes here too in Nw Pa it snows, snows and keeps on snowing. I had an ok thanksgiving but developed a bad migraine last night. Nothing helped. This is the 3rd yr in a row so I don't know if was something I ate because my db had a headache too but not as bad as mine. It was either the stuffing, or turkey because thats all I had except a piece of cherry pie. I feel better today, so now begins the 3-5 day attempt to decorate my tree. Add a few ornaments, rest and repeat lol. Why does it take 4ever to decorate but mins to tear it down? Everyone have a pain free day. Me too I only get relief from a hot bath. I woke up this morning about 4 with severe pain in my mid back. I took a pain pill and a hot bath. Without I wouldn't slept at all. Its been snowing here all last week and the colder it gets the worse I feel. The bad thing is its not even winter yet. Usually here in western Pa we don't get lake effect snows till Jan. Its 20* colder than normal, just hoping we can have 50's in Jan lol. hi, so sorry for all your pain I feel better in very hot water, sadly I cant live in the tub LOL I used to do water therapy also, but cant afford it  but in the couple months the pools are open here I go and do things I remember from the therapy, I usually feel better in the summer compared to the long winter we have here.
I hope you find some relief!

Introduction November 22, 2008 5:14 PM

Hello, I too have never introduced myself or really followed the group much. I did join a Chronic Pain group through MeetUps, here in town that we actually go to coffee houses and such and have meetings with guest speakers and such. It's pretty bad...last one I havd RSVP's that I was coming and at the last minute I had to call and cancel going to my Chronic Pain group because of my chronic pain...Sheesh!! My name is Bren. I live in Northern California. I have chronic degenerative disk sydrome and osteo arthritis. I have bursitis in my left hip and tendonitis in many places. I have fibromyalgia and I have had 3 cervical spine fusion surgeries. I still have pain in my neck. But at least I'm not on Oxycotin anymore!! My Rheumy wrote me a script for warm water exercise about a month ago and I just found a place I can afford and go twice a week. YIPPEE!! Anyway..nice to meet you all : ) Bren

Hi there, welcome tot he group, wether new or not were very happy to have you! I sure hope they find out whats wrong with you chris, there is nothing like having pain 24/7 and all they do is hand out pills (which sadly dont even take the pain away, if they did maybe it wouldnt be so bad not knowing if the pills worked!) its a shame that half the time they may even know whats wrong but they just cant help us any way. Or they give lots of promises and do tons of surgery and your not any better off then when you started (this is comming from a woman whos had 4 back surgeries, and many proceedures)
make yourself at home, hope you find some useful info and friendships

Hello Everyone November 21, 2008 8:42 AM

Although I have been a member of this group,I haven't
participated..shame on me but I'd like to wish the group
enough..enough happiness in their lives, enough strength to make it thru the day, enough knowledge to know what is best for you. Thru the years I've had to learn to deal with all sorts of pains along with the mental side affects from being in constant pain.I'm labeled by the doctors as "special" cuz every test taken comes back normal..then they turn around and write out a perscription ,that's when we go into battle, how can you give me medication when you don't know what the problem is or where it is coming from. Anyway, CC & Debbie "thank you" for this group.

to all of you. I am glad you have come to learn and hopefully share information to help conquer our pain. I myself have had a rough couple weeks with lots of pain, but dr. increased my meds and there is a bit of relief. i am so trying to get on a schedule so I may be here everyday, but as you all know in pain...it's hard to schedule life...let's change that here!

Peace & healing Prayers, C.C.
