What you can do about war...

This is a great way for us to empower ourselves to take some action and be of some help.

Blessings,

Joanne

Posted by Neale Donald Walsch at  http://blog.beliefnet.com/conversationswithgod/2009/01/what-you-can-do-about-war.html

Yesterday I posted here Part 1 of an in-depth commentary on the Gaza Strip tragedy by Marianne Williamson. Today, Part 2...

Part II
by MARIANNE WILLIAMSON

For five minutes each day, be a spiritual activist.
You probably already know what to do. Turn off the TV; neither CNN, MSNBC or FOX know the news. They only know data.
Turn off the bright lights. Put down the newspaper. And go within.
However you do it, turn your attention to the God of your understanding. Surrender your own hatred, give over your own wars, and ask that this year you be lifted above the violence that still lives inside your heart.
With your eyes closed, see on one side of your inner vision the Israeli people. See their physicality, their mannerisms, as you recognize them on the material plane. Now see a light within their hearts, and slowly watch that light expand, extending beyond the confines of their bodies. See the bodies begin to fade before the greater light of their eternal selves.
Now with your inner eye look to the other side of your inner vision, and see there the Palestinian people. See their physicality, their mannerisms, as you recognize them on the material plane. Now see a light within their hearts, and slowly watch that light expand, extending beyond the confines of their bodies. See the bodies begin to fade before the greater light of their eternal selves.
Now using your inner eye -- your greatest source of power -- bear witness to what happens as the inner light of the Israelis begins to merge with the inner light of the Palestinians. Bear witness to the merging of their spiritual selves. Simply watch and focus, for what you focus on grows stronger.
You are bearing witness now to a higher truth, thus using the power of your mind to draw a heavenly truth into material manifestation. In the presence of higher thought forms, lower ones fall of their own dead weight. In the presence of light, darkness disappears. In the presence of eternal truth, temporal lies begin to fall away.
In the words of Dr. King, "No lie can last forever." The idea that the Israeli and Palestinian people are truly separate, or have separate needs, is simply a lie of the mortal mind. Spiritually, we are all one. Israelis and Palestinians were created by the same God; in Him they are equal and they are joined eternally. Only thought forms have separated them. Thought forms of guilt and separation have been handed down to children born innocent of such lies, generation after generation; those are the true enemy here, not either group of people.
As any of us move beyond the fear-based thought forms of separation and guilt to the truth of our eternal oneness, it becomes easier for everyone else to do so as well. Let's give up the way-too-easy, so-American way of chiding either Israelis or Palestinians for their difficulty in forgiving the past. What both peoples have endured is almost unimaginable, and only the truly sainted among us should even for a minute consider judging either side.
We don't have to; and when in our own right minds, we don't want to.
Use the power of your mind to create a new possibility... a miracle in the Middle East.
As the poet Rumi wrote so eloquently, "Out beyond all ideas of right and wrong, there is a field. I'll meet you there." So go there now. Such thoughts are not just poetry, or even symbol, any longer. In the world that's being born, they're the stuff of a new politics.
No more simply asking, "But what can I do?" Go even further, to "What can I think? What can I pray for? What can I meditate on?" Pray for the removal of all walls that separate any of us from any of us, not only on our earth but also in our minds. Pray for the removal of the guns that still fire within your own mind as you accuse or withhold your forgiveness from anyone. And pray that at this perilous hour, those of us whose lives have not been touched by the horrors of war can be of service to those whose lives have been.
Dear God, please deliver them.
And dear God, deliver us.

UFPJ NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, DECEMBER  12-14

This will be an important event as many individuals and major organizations in the peace and justice movements will be gathering after election day to discuss the direction and how to move forwards our collective goals. VFP's voice is an important part of these discussions. We should have a strong presence to ensure the veteran peace voice is heard.

Make your plans now! As a participant in UFPJ's 4th National Assembly, you can help set the direction for the peace and justice movement and lend a hand as we prepare for effective and united action on post-November terrain.

While anyone is welcome to attend this gathering, only delegates of UFPJ member groups (as of December 1, 2008) may participate in decision-making:

 - 2 delegates per independent local organization or coalition
 - 2 delegates per national organization
 - 1 delegate perlocal chapter/affiliate of a national group

A National Peace Academy will educate for peace. Definition: Educare' (Latin) - to draw forth; to lead out. Imagine an academic community dedicated to drawing forth the essential peacebuilder in all of us while demonstrating the principles of peace in its everyday functioning. Such is our vision.

In April 2008, a diverse group of people from the business, government, and peacebuilding communities gathered in Cleveland, Ohio, at Case Western Reserve University to envision a National Peace Academy and took on the shared responsibility of making that vision a reality. Since that April Vision Meeting, we have been delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response to our announcement. Thank you for your interest, support, encouragement and participation in this historic endeavor!

We want to let you know what is so unique and compelling about this endeavor. We are designing the National Peace Academy utilizing AI, Appreciative Inquiry, an inclusive co-creative design process that calls forth from the group the vision of what is possible while drawing forth the best of what all of us have to offer. It is exciting and on the cutting edge of what is emerging in these very challenging times.

Some of the suggested objectives of the National Peace Academy include the advance and support of:

  • Existing peace education and peacebuilding efforts
  • The study of the phenomena of peace
  • Research, program development, training, and education for professional and citizen practice of peace and peacebuilding
  • A worldwide network of peace academies
  • Structures and programs in government, military, business, and civil society for a culture of peace

At this time, the infrastructure for the design process is in place, including an advisory board, a secretariat, website (www.nationalpeaceacademy. us), several work teams, answers to a set of frequently asked questions, an informational flyer, and soon a formal case statement that elaborates the need for and unique design process of this historic endeavor and provides a management plan and budget for carrying it out.

Please send this e-mail on to others and let us create the momentum for our March 2009 Global Stakeholders Summit at Case Western Reserve, where 200-300 people will gather to design the National Peace Academy utilizing Appreciative Inquiry, facilitated by Professor David Cooperrider.

Do you have ideas? Do you know people who might be interested in funding the project? Do you want to participate? Do you have an idea for a logo? Please be in touch!

Click here to read the National Peace Academy flyer and please take a minute to share this news with others, using our easy Refer-a-Friend - thanks.

Get Together

Love is but a song we sing
and fear's the way we die,
You can make the mountains ring
or make the angels cry,
Tho' the bird is on the wing
and you may not know why.

C'mon people, now
smile on your brother,
ev'ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.

Some will come and some will go
and we shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
returns for us at last
We are but a moments sunlight
fading in the grass.

C'mon people, now
smile on your brother,
ev'ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.

If you hear the song I sing
you will understand
You hold the key to love and fear
in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both,
it's there at your command.

C'mon people, now
smile on your brother,
ev'ry-body get together,
try to love one another right now.

PEACE LESSONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD - ready to order, ready to use

Peace Lessons from Around the World, 16 lessons based on the four strands of the Hague Agenda for Peace and Justice for the 21st Century, has arrived and you can order it for $25. by filling in the order form. To download it, Please click here. These lessons have been edited for educators by Andrea Libresco and Jeannette Balantic in cooperation with the International Advisory Committee of the Global Campaign for Peace Education. Other peace lessons that were not included in the book will soon be posted on this website and as lessons are received they will be added.

We firmly believe that to reach peace we need to teach peace, and this book represents the third publication from the Hague Appeal for Peace to help accomplish this goal. The first book, Learning to Abolish War, Teaching for a Culture of Peace can be down loaded from this home page as well as the Peace and Disarmament Education book, the story of the partnership with Albania, Cambodia, Niger and Peru with the United Nations Department for Disarmament, to help change mindsets and sustain the removal of small arms.

The mission of the Hague Appeal for Peace is in transition to the wonderful new organization, Peace Boat-US. You can reach them at info@peaceboat-us.org or go to their website, which is being constructed, www.peaceboat-us.org

We salute each of you who is doing something to move from the culture of violence which has defined the past century and the beginning of this new century, to a culture of peace which must define the rest of this century so there can be a safe, peaceful and just future for our children and grandchildren and theirs.

This website will remain, but will not be changed save for the addition of new peace lessons. Peace Boat-US will continue our work and add their own also in the interest of reaching peace with justice for all.

We will not disappear, just move on, and are grateful that a younger generation of experienced wonderful people will continue this rewarding and important work from our office.

Cora Weiss, President
for the Hague Appeal for Peace.

Tomorrow is John Lennon's Birthday! Anyone care2 comment on how he has affected your life? I know when I hear "Imagine" on the radio, a calmness comes over me!

203!!!!

Let's get it to 1,000 by the end of August!!!!!

This past week, I had a rather hard day at work with the heat and all. I stopped to get gasoline about a mile from the house. As I started the car for the final mile, “Imagine” began to play on the radio. Needless to say, I went into cruise mode so to hear the entire song. The stress and tension of the day seemed to flow from me as the song progressed!

I just checked the petition and saw the signatures were up to 159!

Come-on Peaceniks!

Let’s do what we can for this legend and role model of our movement!

Imagine
John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

It's time to imagine Peace

| Hot!

Dear friends:

This was a post on my Peace and Nonviolence group this morning.  I think it's a great idea some of you might want to lend your energy to.  Who knows?  it might start a light wave that will help it happen!  If it calls to you, feel free to spread it far and wide.  A little bit of love goes a long way.

in love and light,

Maria

IMAGINE THE JOYS OF PEACE

Everyday at noon, please, stop for a short moment
and imagine the joys of peace....

That's all!

Just take a few seconds to imagine all soldiers abandoning their weapons and going home to their welcoming families and friends. Imagine the feasts...

Imagine the relieved turning back to ordinary life and things that really matter.
Imagine the caring and collaboration. Imagine a decent life for everyone.

Imagine all this and concentrate for a little while on the essence of joy for you. - In your mind's eye see the joys peace brings, in vivid realistic pictures. Breath deeply, peacefully ... relax.

Imagine the joys of peace...

Fill your heart with the joy of peace...

That's all!

Imagine peace at noon:

Please make it a daily practice, or prayer, meditation, visualization, blessing, call it by any name.

Imagine and join people world wide at noon
in this peaceful and effortless peace-movement for everyone. You can do it alone or in groups, where ever you happen to be. You can also do it when it's noon in another time zone. Just imagine it vividly!

Imagine the joys of peace at noon!

Thanks and all the best to you!
