cyber party moved to it's own thread...no party here!!

left the party to talk to my former montessori co=teacher. things are not going so well there...very sad. i'm tired now after working in the garden in this heat and humidity, having a pretend party and hearing not such good news about where i used to work in chicago. guess i'll go to bed...

i'll be a bit scarce for a while probably...i have to deal more with my IRL problems which i'd much rather pretend aren't there, but that never is a good solution. nothing life threatening that i know of, just water in basement, toilet flushing issue...and other silly things like that!

if anything fun happens, let me know!...yeah, right!

it was nice while it lasted last year...it was a good group and it was fun, but i finally have to accept that there really is no "group" any more. there is a lot of information on community collected by various members scattered throughout the threads that may or may not be of use to anyone. a few people think it should be saved...i think i agree. i can't quite figure out how to separate the wheat from the shaft and it doesn't seem to be worth my effort to even try.

becoming part of a community or starting a community is proving to be a much harder thing than most of us realized. some of you, i know got tired of just talking. some have given up or are close to it. some of you, bless your hearts, are still struggling without much support...don't have time for talk..i wish you all the very best.

i would like very much to keep in touch with you. if you don't already have my email address/phone #, please message me and i will give it to you...rod, i still can't get your email to go through, but at least we have been successful with messaging.

as i said in the bulletin, this place  will remain mainly as a source. if you find anything interesting, file it away on a thread for the rest of us who occasionally may drop by...it will be like a quiet reading room.

thank you all for the encouragment and hope that you have given me and each other...please continue and let me know when you have joined your community or the one you start is up and running!

got my basic cable connected...nice to have something to escape from dealing or even thinking about irl problems, but will call plumbers to do a "toilet colonoscopy" sort of thing to see what's happening down there between the apartment bathroom and the septic. i hope that will be resolved without too much expense, etc. and then on to the next of lifes little...and usually expensive problems!...that would probably be the leaking ground water where they re-concreted the bathroom floor, that has the toilet that won't flush, that goes to the septic that had to be emptied that leads to the drainfield that isn't draining and may need an expensive mound system that may or may not solve that problem that lay in the house that jack built...water, water everywhere and all the boards did shrink...and not a drop to drink...well i don't have that problem, but pump needs some work down the line...not anywheres near the current list of too dos! ain't country life fun?

Sorry to hear your house is crumbling around you, and your group isn't going as you hoped. But TV makes a nice distraction. I recommend "Big Bang Theory" at 8:30. I believe they are all fans of Dr. Who.

I tried to send you a green star to cheer you up, but it seems I'm not allowed into the super double secret clubhouse to do that, so I made you one myself:

green star

i am cheered up!

thank you bill...that was very nice...i like this star SOOO much better!! i refuse to become part of the silly old friend's club. it's kind of funny to say, "i have no friends"..it sounds so pathetic!

oh dear! the fall of the house of pickerilweed! goneril has told me from the begining that i should tear it down and start all over...i'm too old for that...i'd like to tear down a lot of things and start all over. i'd like a strawbale house or a really cool earth ship...in my next life.

i missed the big bang theory...was it good?

hey rod...if you are around...would you like to be cohost of this sinking ship? you don't have to do anything unless you want to. i'm not sure being a closed "group" is a good idea...i hate closed groups unless there is a REALLY good reason. it's nice to be able to invite people to come visit, look stuff up and they don't have to join. like someone just asked me about cohousing today.

Well if after all my Caveats You Still want me sure I'll Bite

as Even though I don't Contribute near as Much as You;

 I do feel that this group is important;

 and I will contribute Where and when I can;

I wish your House Was Easier to deal with;

I hope you can solve things and get a Tennant/Partner; Soon.

the thing is, this will be just a really low key deal...anyone can come in when they want, to post or not to post...that's not even a question.

you could do a blog kind of thread if you like. i'll just add stuff as i am inspired, like with the cohousing material i found today. and other members could, if so inspired, post whatever community related things they like whenever they want or people members or not...if we have the group open can come just to have a lurk or look around. i think your right about making membership controlled for posting reasons.

rod, a mutual friend of ours has recently turned into a cat and inspired me...i've been thinking of changing my avitar...sick of looking at it all in a row. i'd like to change my name too, but don't want to confuse anyone! you do know that i was the bigger one on right in that avitar!

as cohosts we may occasionally want to communicate...i don't seem to be so good at that. there is a host bulletin for that purpose, but i tend to forget about it. we could use ordinary messaging or just start a host thread and let it all hang out...i think i like that...then other people could but in their two cents if anyone can afford it. it's not like we have secrets from the multitude of people who will be reading our words of wisdom! very important: please tell me when you disagree or don't like something i've said or done. we are bound to see things differently at times...i don't think i really needed to say that...

did you get the invitation to accept being cohost?

rod...i'm going to start a "host/ cohost and others" thread to talk about how we want to do things...i'd like it to be out in the open..if you disagree or have any other thoughts about it,it is all open to discussion. please argue and disagree with me if you like!

Sounds ok with me

i know what you mean...when i was much younger i didn't express my opinion much...i guess i'm making up for it now. i contacted care2 about your picture not showing up.

rod, you should like the thunderbox posts!

still trying to get my septic working...emptied 2 weeks ago...full of water again. now i know i have a drainfield and where it goes...have to have some guy come out and dig it up and try to auger pipes...no guarantee that will work either. what fun!

capitals

You guys should work out a captial letter exchange. Rod has too many, and Pickerel not enough -- heh.

BTW, are we not supposed to say P.'s real name in the group? -- like "Voldemort"?

With Me it's Partly Caps for Emphasis But mostly a typing Pattern

Oh and Pick Works Too...

But, all that extra work hitting the shift key!

it's all in the eye of the beholder...at least here it doesn't matter. if you must know...it's easier...i could say i'm emulating ee cummings...artistic licience, you know! my name isn't voldemort! should i make a corny remark about not calling me late for dinner? i may change my name...BUT, it's more interesting than following silly and boring rules. express yourself...type upsidedown...wheeeeeee!

i want to have a working legal water system here because if i die...which of course i will...who knows when...i'd like my daughter to be able to sell the place. if it looks like a choice between mound system or compost toilet, i think i'll go with compost toilet...the store bought kind. a whole system would just be too, too expensive and i don't know how many people would rent a place with a compost toilet even the fanciest kind. i'd like to do grey water too...ah, if i were younger and i didn't have to do it all by myself...money would help too!

Waiting for Harry Potter

I'm sure you are all viewing this on your iPhones while sitting in your lawn chairs in the line waiting for the Harry Potter movie to open, so here are some "radio stations" to entertain you:

burning my old soffit board in the fire pit as they put up the new metal ones with lots of vents. had to be done. i hope i don't run out of money before i die...on the other hand, i'm hoping to live a long time yet. still have to deal with the septic...to build a mound or not to build a mound...

rod, i just came upon the beer group that you're in. i may join it when i'm in a calmer, more optimistic state...made me want to go out and buy some interesting beers, and ales, etc.

ya I've Been Sampling for awhile, Now I need to get busy and

Make Some, First I want to do some Berry and Apple Wines &/or Freeze Jacked Liquors..

But I would like to geow my own Hops, and Make My Own Super Hoppy Ales..

i've only had homemade beer once...very yeasty like the root beer my mother used to make...i like it that way for a change. is homemade always yeasty? i guess i should go join that group and we could talk about this there, but i just don't feel like it yet.

Beers, Ales and Wines Can be Filtered before Bottling
5 months ago

However anything that is fermented in the Bottle will have some yeast Sediment; Proper Aging helps With The Green Taste; But The other Way to Deal with that Yeasty Problem is To Chill close to Freezing; Then Without Shaking or Otherwise Disturbing the Bottle Slowly Pour it into a chillled glass Leaving the Last Murky/Yeasty Bit in the Bottle; (or Pour the Last Bit on the Ground For All your Dead Homie's)(Damn Fools Nowaday's Pour the First Out on the Ground)

why would they do that? there used to be a canadian brand that had that homemade yeasty taste. we tried it a few years later and and it was just like other produced beers...no yeast. a little yeast is ok, but pouring off the top...isn't that where most of the alcohol would be?

introduce new members?

Hi, Rosemary,

I'm about to go visit some people who live in a sort of underground house (sort of), and thought they might be interested in the alternative housing area. Since I joined through Facebook, I'm not sure how to do that from their house if they don't have FB. Well, I'll just blunder through, I guess.

Sorry people aren't contributing to your group like you want. Maybe your "post or else" messages are a little intimidating to some people.

Also, I don't know how much they let you manipulate the site, but I think if you had the list of topics at the top as the first thing people see, it would give them more an idea of what's here, without scrolling (people hate scrolling -- heh).

Carry on...

Bill

i don't know. one could always join care2 and then "unjoin".  no, people just don't post because it's not one of those social/discuss whatever you want groups. i've given up trying to be nice about it and know people aren't going to do it. it's nice if someone comes by now and then. i hear more from people through email, messaging, and phone. it's a good place to keep information.

the discussion board does list the topics and they are color coded to several general topics at the top. you should see the topics and threads on LEFT, RIGHT,AND BEYOND.

i'd be interested in hearing more about their house.

Sorry, the occasion involved a bigger shindig than I thought (a double birthday party), so there wasn't an opportunity to show them your group. I'll be in touch with them by email, so will send them the URL. They aren't all that involved with computer life, so I don't know if they will feel like joining.

How are your TV and plumbing problems going?

changed everything to comcast very basic service...phone, internet, and cable.

i'm waiting till next spring to decide what to do about septic drainfield...may get compost toilet for basement. right now i can't afford to do much of anything until i start collecting on my annuities. eventually will probably move to basement apartment and rent the original part of house...hopefully!

I finally got around to emailing the link to your alternative housing page to the people I visited. I got the impression they aren't all that into computer life, so don't hold your breath waiting for any input.

Good that at least you have TV, now. Do check out "Big Bang Theory" on CBS Mondays. I think if you like Dr. Who, you would like the show. Although, come to think of it, I don't like Dr. Who all that much (not that there's anything wrong with it) but BBTh is one of my favorite shows. Anyway, I'm sure the characters are Dr. Who fans.

not hooked on the newer dr. whos, but i did love k=9, sara jane and had a big crush on tom baker for a time. i've had tv, but those convertion boxes didn't work well so switched everything to comcast and am actually paying a little less per month than when i had phone and internet with at&t....at least till next year. for some reason, most of my favorite tv shows have only one name, like "bones", "monk". "lost". "numbers", "ellen". i watch mostly the same channels as i did before, but don't get 20, the city college pbs station any more.

i don't hold my breath for many things these days. they all ready have their alternative house, but they might be interested in some of the other threads...or not. what was their house like? do they have compost toilets?

The house is kind of dug into a slope, with the roof covered with a layer of dirt. Don't know how thick. From that side, you hardly know there's a house there. From the other side, it seems like a regular house. The toilets flush. That's all I know about them.

There was as series featuring the present Sara Jane. I watched a couple of episodes, but didn't really get into it. Of the ones you mentioned. I only watch Monk. Fringe is my new favorite show -- http://bit.ly/1aCdIl

why did they build there house that way ...to conserve on heating/cooling?

k-9 was also featured in that spin off. i never saw it.

i thought i might have a procpective member to little white pines, but it didn't work out. it was nice to feel a little bit of obtimism for a short while. we should have a contest to see who can get the first member to join their community...who will it be? dave, greta, dd, valerie. me??? these are the ones who already have land, but it could be someone else.or who will be the first in this group to join a community? my bets are on chrystal. marti is kind of in a separate class and has an unofficial community thing going.

HI Everyone, I am sorry I have been so out of touch. Part of it was that Care 2 didn't keep me updated about posts, but now I get a summary called a digest that lets me know if things have been posted. I do not have much in terms of IC at the house I built and live in. With my wife and I things just happen, and a lot of it is not what is wanted. Something more akin to IC is a real life group I am dabling with that we now call Worcesr Energy Barn Raisers. We volunteer our time, and very limited and dwindling funds from a tiny grant to do weatherization work. Another project is coming up for a nonprofit called the Genesis Club, that is an international IC for people with some mental problems, or that had them in the past. My speciality is the energy auditing and actually doing the weatherization work of a little insulating, and mainly air sealing. I will try to keep more of an eye on things here, and wish you all well.  Glenn

howdy stranger! i haven't been around here much either and certainly no one else has. it is always good to, hear from you. i haven't been in touch by email with anyone either.

i think any group that comes together to do something possitive is most likely going to have elements of a community. i belonged to a prairie restoration group in chicago for about 10 years and we got together to work on prairies in the areas forrest preserves mostly every sunday. i think that was a community of sorts.

glad you are getting group notifications again. i get them on my other email account, but not the care2 account. care2 is sadly understaffed and i think are losing members because of it.

hey, if anyone is out there, i hope you are all well. it would be nice to hear from you...REALLY...even if you aren't making any progress communitywise. i'm getting nowhere with that, myself...but plodding along. if you see anything of interest about intentional community or related, please share it with the "group".

i'm venting:  this used to be a good group of people interested in intentional community. there are no good intentional community groups on the internet. mostly a bunch of naive guys who have some land and think it would be cool to start a community with their buddies or total strangers and just because they think that, it will be so. i thought we were better than that. i know some of the members are discouraged...i'm discouraged too. should you give up just because this is much harder than we all thought? when this was a good group, i got to know and like and respect many of you and enjoyed our discussions. i envisioned this group as a place to help and encourage each other. if there is anyone out there who is still trying...i mean seriously trying and wanting to be part of a community i hope you will be posting. if there is any brainstorming, moral support, encouragement, information...anything this group could provide, i'd like to help with that. i think talking about our dreams, clarifing them, working on them together can help make them real...but nobody said it would be easy.

i'm 68...i don't have a lot of time to get it all together!
