Honourable Minister Dr. Berger,
As you are aware, during the early morning hours on 21th May 2008 twenty-three raids and searches were carried out by a coordinated police operation against animal rights advocates in Austria. In the progress of these police raids doors were crushed open without any warning and the sleeping people assaulted with drawn guns. During the searches all people in the residential premises - being targeted, visitors or bystanders - were subjected to massive verbal and physical assaults, threats and intimidations by the police-squads.
As reason for this excessive police operation the public prosecutor had invoked §278a StGB (formation of a "criminal organization"), a piece of legislation, which Austria had introduced to combat Mafia-like organized crime or terror-groups, but no evidence, whatsoever, has been brought forward by the state of Austria that such allegations would have any foundation in the allegations against the ten animal advocates. None of the conditions, which §278a StGB requires to be applicable, are given and none of the other allegations brought forward could be proven by the prosecution either. Despite all this flawed process, the ten detainees are now kept far over the time allowed by the Austrian law in detention. The most basic laws of Austria and Europe, and legal principles like "Innocent until proven guilty!" as well as the internationally guaranteed freedom of speech and expression are therefore neglected and violated with impunity by the judiciary in Austria, for which you, as Minister of Justice, have the duty of oversight.
Though even the senior public prosecutor has consented meanwhile that excessive and inappropriate and thereby illegal force and methods were used by the special squad during these operations, the arrested people still 10 remain detained in remand prison, despite the fact that no evidence has been brought forward by the prosecution concerning any wrongdoing, which would warrant the police operations or the meanwhile now even extended detention of the arrested Austrian citizens.
In addition the confiscated computers, data and other material of five legally operating non-governmental organizations have been retained by the investigation now also for over two months and thereby the legally guaranteed right of these organizations as well as the work of civil society to operate unhindered within the legal framework had been made nearly impossible. Such is also a clear violation of many European and international conventions to which Austria is a signatory.
It is thereby obvious that in Austria the work of animal rights defenders as well as civil society in general is criminalized outrageously and the good standing of legally and successful operating non-governmental organizations shall be tarnished. Though this has made the work, which also depends on private sponsors and contributors, of these NGOs nearly impossibly and has caused serious economic and operational damage, the excessive police operation as well as the unjust detention of the animal rights advocates has already backfired and has damaged the international image and reputation of the Republic of Austria severely, which is clearly the fault of a flawed system of the executive and the judiciary. During the first session under the French EU-Presidency of the council of European justice and internal ministers on 24th/25th of this month in Brussels you realized yourself the grave concern other European states have concerning the present developments in Austria.
Based on all this, we hereby too protest to the utmost against the illegal state operations in Austria and the unjustly extended detention of the ten animal rights activists.
Our work also consists of and supports legal activism in order to improve animal welfare legislation and like the detainees we refuse any form of illegal aggression, but in these cases brought here again to your attention, illegal aggressions against citizens and civil society are carried forward by the Austrian State, which you as Minister for Justice have the duty to stop.
Dear Minister Dr. Berger, we therefore request from you again that you engage yourself, stop these atrocities and do everything possible to have the ten detainees set free immediately.
Please have the detainees set free, kindly respond to this letter and we hereby request officially to keep us informed concerning what you have done and will do to rectify this unbearable and unjust situation in Austria.
You are the responsible Austrian Federal Minister - not just of justice, but for justice - and we therefore plead with you: LET TRUE JUSTICE PREVAIL !
It is essential for consumers to know that burgeoning meat consumption has caused a massive overproduction of chickens, cows, pigs, and other animals, leading to unprecedented production of feces that end up in rivers, streams, and irrigation water, and contaminate otherwise healthful produce.
Salmonella are intestinal organisms. Needless to say, tomatoes and peppers do not have an intestinal tract. When feces end up in irrigation water, salmonella can contaminate the surfaces of plants and can apparently pass into their rootlets, ending up inside produce. Infectious bacteria from animal feces also contaminate agricultural fields, workers hands, retail shelves, and kitchen surfaces.
HELP FOR STRAYS AND PETS--PETITION TO EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT July 19, 2008 11:48 AM
This was forwarded to me today from my new friend Suzanna--It needs 1,000,000 signatures before it can be presented to the European Parliament. Please sign, forward, crosspost as this lays down standards for treatment of pets and strays in EU countries. Allows for prosecutions under standards set forth. Think this is needed as a step towards ending some of those abuse cases we see everyday here at Care2. Thank you!!

Dear Dove,
If the Bush administration and a Denver-based natural gas company get their way, Utah's remarkable Nine Mile Canyon may soon be transformed into a massive industrial zone.
We need your immediate action to halt this destructive scheme in its tracks. The deadline for submitting comments on the plan is May 1!
Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/redrock/takeaction right away and tell the Bureau of Land Management to reject this disastrous proposal, which would put more than 800 new natural gas wells in the Greater Nine Mile Canyon area -- home to the greatest concentration of rock art sites in America.
The BLM has just released a study that grossly underestimates the impacts of proposed natural gas development on the region's irreplaceable cultural and natural values.
The plan calls for drilling non-federal wells in Nine Mile Canyon itself, along with dozens if not hundreds of wells in side canyons and other public wildlands now being considered for designation as a national historic district.
Nearly 200 wells would be drilled in the remarkable wilderness-quality lands of the Desolation and Jack canyons.
As a result of existing natural gas drilling in the Nine Mile Canyon region, compressor stations already run nonstop and dozens if not hundreds of heavy trucks hustle up and down the canyon around the clock.
Yet despite the serious threat of expanding these activities into the Desolation and Jack Canyon wildlands, the Bureau of Land Management has failed to propose protection for them as "wilderness study areas."
Forget the IFAW! Boycott Japan and spread the word! April 26, 2008 12:24 PM
The best way to stop whaling for good is to boycott Japan!
The IFAW does realy nothing, and i repeat nothing to stop whaling! They just collect money thats it! Forget the IFAW its a comlete waste of time and money just like Greenpeace the only one who realy did defend the whales has been Paul Watson and his Crew at the Steve Irwin! But even they did not ask for a boycott because they seem to love whalewatching just as much as Greenpeace does! The only way to stop the killing is if they loose money real money! The Nikei Index needs to react on the Boycott otherwise you will see commercial whaling with the greatest ships you can imagine! 1000 whales? Forget it they will go for thousands of whales!

Thank you for taking the time to tell Gucci to stop selling seal fur. After hearing from thousands of PETA activists like you, Gucci has assured PETA that it will not sell any more seal fura product of the vicious Canadian seal hunt. This is a great step in the right direction! However, Gucci continues to sell items featuring fur that has been ripped off the backs of other tortured animals. Now is the time to let Gucci know that it can do better!
Your participation in our efforts is a crucial part of our success, as you can see from this exciting victory. Please continue to help animals killed for Gucci's fur items! Click here to let Gucci know that the time has come to go faux and that no matter where the fur came from, every fur item that Gucci sells represents unimaginable suffering.
This year the Canadian government promised a more humane hunt. They said âCanadaâs seal hunt is humane, sustainable and responsible.â They lied.
Thanks
to your support, IFAW Hunt Observers have been on the ground and in the
air documenting the hunt since it opened on the 28th of March. Only
days into the hunt they have captured on camera instances where animals
were shot and clearly left to suffer on the iceâ¦in one case for over
a minute. They have witnessed live seals being hooked and dragged
across the ice. And in one of the more disturbing moments they watched
as a sealer wrote an expletive on the ice while a recently clubbed seal
behind him started to move...obviously still alive.
Observing
and documenting the hunt is not easy work. It means hours of anxiously
scanning the gulf region looking for sealing boats - because the
Department of Fisheries and Oceans wonât release specific coordinates
of where hunting is taking place. It means watching hours of tape to
make sure we document every violation that we captured on film.
But without this footage the world would have no idea of the kind of
cruelty really taking place.
And if you can, please consider making a donation to help in the fight to end this cruel and senseless hunt.
Of every dollar spent around the world by IFAW during the past three
years, more than 83 cents went directly to animal welfare programs and
institutional costs. Your gift enables IFAW to document the cruelty of
the seal hunt, fight for more seal product bans in Europe, conduct vital research to help save seals and works to end the exploitation of animals around the world.
The Canadian government will continue in their attempt to justify the seal hunt â both in Canada
and abroad. But no matter how the truth is distorted, it cannot change
the fact that the seal hunt is terribly cruel and unneccesary.
Your support is today is more critical than ever. Thank you for
standing with IFAW and with the seals.
I had a friend that really made me aware of what is going on around the world in global warming. I want to be educated on everything we know about it. I was telling him that satilites and the space station has taken pictures that will { I hate using this word} scare you. I really want to get involve in this subject. Scott really brought up some good research and studied it very well. I am going to be the first to say. That I need to know everything I can about, and what countries and all the laws and letters you can. I do not want to sound stupid, but, lately it is hard for me to go out and get all this imformation. If someone can sum it up for me and let me know the lastest or current issues I would really be greatful. This is a very serious problem. I am going to try to get some things if allowed to tell and show what Nasa and other countries and satilites are seeing and learning now. So if anyone could give me a quick class on the issues and problems we are having on this, I would like to help.Thank you so much for your time.
Today, we joined a lawsuit requiring the EPA to
regulate global warming pollution.
In complete defiance of last year's Supreme Court
ruling, the Environmental Protection Agency has refused to issue
a formal determination that global warming pollution endangers
public health or welfare.
Today, Environmental Defense Fund joined with a
dozen states and ten other non-profit organizations to file suit
to require the EPA to comply with the Supreme Court's decision
and issue its determination within 60 days.
The EPA is defying the Supreme
Court and endangering our economy, our environment, and
our health. The law and the science are clear: The EPA must
regulate global warming causing pollution.
Instead, as today's Washington Post
editorial reports, EPA administrator Stephen Johnson has spent
the last year "making decisions that increased U.S.
contributions to global warming." This includes denying
California's waiver request to cut global warming pollution from
automobiles -- an unprecedented step that derailed similar
efforts in 11 other states.
Global warming is the most urgent environmental
threat facing the planet today. We have a chance to solve this
crisis, but we need national action now to unleash the clean
energy technologies that will reinvent energy and stop global
warming.
We will keep you posted on this case and our
larger campaign to pass a national cap on America's global
warming pollution this year.
Time is running out on
the Bush Administration, but that hasn't slowed last-ditch
efforts to hand over 6 million acres of pristine Idaho
forests to the oil, timber, natural gas and mining
industries.
Idaho is home to the
largest stretch of unspoiled forests in the lower 48 states, and
the last pristine habitat in the Northern Rockies for countless
fish, wildlife, and plant species.
The administration's
latest proposal, however, would throw out
protections under the Roadless Area Conservation Rule
for six million acres of forest lands, which can lead to mining,
logging, road construction, and oil and gas development in this
serene, unspoiled wilderness.
Removing current
roadless protections in Idaho will expose this magnificent
American treasure to irreversible exploitation:
Millions of acres of
untrammeled forests will be opened to commercial
logging
As much as 545
million tons of phosphate could be mined near Grand
Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, worsening selenium
poisoning in local streams and aquifers
Wildlife habitat and
fish-bearing streams will be degraded or
destroyed
Pristine backcountry
areas once enjoyed by hikers, hunters and anglers will vanish...
with no chance for restoration
Join us in protecting
this great national treasure and preserving our rights to enjoy
the splendors of our nation's natural wonders? without wreaking
havoc on this delicate and vital eco-system.
Tell the Bush administration
that our forests should be protected, not destroyed. And
hurry! Public comments on preserving this stunning
forest from development will only be accepted between now and
Monday, April 7.

Fighting the Illegal Wildlife Trade in the Skies
Dear Tammy,
Did you know that while you're traveling
between countries, endangered species could be sharing your
flight - in violation of international law? In fact, on March
14th a traveler was arrested in Bangkok's international airport
trying to smuggle 20 baby slow lorises, 30 monitor lizards, and
25 flyriver turtles - all protected species!
The illegal international trade in wildlife is a
multi-billion dollar industry driving many species to the brink
of extinction, as animals and wildlife products are smuggled to
supply an illegal market in exotic pets and luxury goods made of
endangered species.
On April 22-23, 2008, world leaders
in the aviation industry will meet in Geneva at the Aviation and
Environment Summit to discuss the steps the industry can take to
minimize its environmental impact. Please sign this petition, as
we will forward it to the summit and urge them to consider their
role in combating the illegal trade in wildlife and protecting
animals in the wild.
Encourage airlines and airports to
be more vigilant when inspecting and transporting luggage, to
make a concerted effort to stop the illegal transport of
endangered species and illegal wildlife products, and to work
with law enforcement authorities to bring wildlife traffickers
to justice.
Thank you in advance for taking action and spreading the
word. This is a critical message to the
aviation industry to help protect wildlife from being
illegally traded and transported around the world.
Sincerely,

Dear Monsieur Rochat:
As
a leader in the global aviation industry, I am requesting your help in
combating the international illegal trade in wildlife and wildlife
products.
The illegal trade in wildlife not only affects
individual species but entire ecosystems. According to the U.S.
Congress, this multi-billion dollar illegal trade is also tied to
organized crime, drug smuggling, gun running, and even armed separatist
movements and insurgencies. The implications for global health are dire
as well. The illegal wildlife trade can spread diseases like bird flu, SARS, and other contagions, affecting not only humans but livestock, wildlife populations and even the world economy.
The
aviation industry leadership can play a critical role. I urge you and
the leadership in your industry - at airlines, airports, and freight
carriers - to include this issue as part of the agenda at the Aviation
and Environment Summit in Geneva.
I
encourage you to work with the world's airlines and airports to be more
vigilant when inspecting and transporting luggage, to make a concerted
effort to stop the illegal transport of endangered species and illegal

This petition is to ask Borneo's 3 nations (Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia) to conserve the area known as the Heart of Borneo - a total of 220,000 km2 of equatorial rainforest - through a network of protected areas and sustainably-managed forests, and through international co-operation led by the Bornean governments.
All
consumers have the right to know how their
product reaches the sho-shelf, and past
surveys have shown that peole would be less
likely to buy products if they explicitly state
that they/their ingredients HAVE been tested on
animals. We are camaigning in order to raise
awareness of the extent of animal testing, in
order to enable consumers to make more informed
decisions with regards to the products they buy.
We
the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to make it a
legal requirement for all products to explicitly state if
they/any of their ingredients HAVE been tested on animals.
The term painted fish refers to ornamental aquarium fish which have been artificially coloured through extremely cruel processes in order to appeal to consumers, especially young children. Buying an animal only due to its appearance when one is not sufficiently prepared or willing to take care of it is wrong. The color in the fish fades within months, leaving it undesirable to those who bought only it for its coloring. Unfortunately, most of these fish perish due to dye-related complications far before the color has a chance to fade.
How it's done: Dye Injection - Large needles are used to inject dye under the skin. Because only a small area is affected, the fish must be subjected to many punctures to achieve the desired effect. The popular painted glassfish are dyed this way, using florescent colored paints. Fish that are injected often contract infections from the punctures.
Dipping - As barbaric as dye injections seem, this practice is even worse. The fish are first put into a caustic solution that strips off their protective outer slime coating. They are then dipped in dye, or injected with dyes, after which they are dipped in another chemical that irritates the flesh to stimulate re-growth of the slime coat. This method is very stressful, and has a high mortality rate.

They are unable to speak to us in a way we understand, they cannot stand up for themselves nor can they help each other like we can help them. You can help, even if it might seem like it will never make a difference for them, by signing the petition to get it banned. Its free, its quick but it really could help. You can also email me a letter that I will include when I send the petition off, it can be any length. This could also make a difference. With state officials planning to kill 70% of the wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies and southwest wolf recovery efforts continuing to falter, its time for a national wolf recovery plan.
What is clear is that if the gray wolf is to be truly recovered and delisted in the lower-48 States, a nationwide recovery plan is the first and best step towards that goal.
-- Petition to the USFWS for a National Wolf Recovery Plan, 2/20/08
Dear Tammy,
With the support of caring people like you, today we launched our latest legal efforts to save wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies, notifying the Secretary of the Interior that we intend to sue to reverse last week's elimination of vital federal protections for these amazing animals.
But with the future of wolf recovery and the lives of hundreds of wolves at stake, Defenders of Wildlife is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a lasting future for wolves in America.
By removing wolves in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana from the list of federally protected endangered species last week, the Bush/Cheney Administration has officially green-lighted state plans to kill as many as 70% of the wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.
The announcement opened the door to the killing of more than a 1,000 wolves by aerial gunning, trapping, poisoning and other lethal methods. It could also close the door on wolf restoration in Oregon, Washington, Colorado and other parts of the gray wolfs historic range.
Last week, Defenders and our allies at the Natural Resources Defense Council filed a formal petition with the Fish and Wildlife Service calling for a national wolf recovery plan.
Such a plan would protect not only wolves in the Northern Rockies, but also provide a needed boost for wolf recovery and management efforts in the Southwest, Northeast and Pacific Northwest.
South Africa has announced it will reverse its 1995 ban on killing elephants and resume culling of elephants in May. Elephant family groups could be rounded up by helicopters and shot from the air by marksmen.
The Bush administration is poised to allow two giant energy companies to drill exploratory oil and gas wells up to 14,000 feet beneath Colorado's spectacular Baca National Wildlife Refuge.
Last year, BioGems Defenders and other NRDC online activists sent more than 48,000 messages protesting this destructive drilling scheme. Despite this outcry, the Bush administration is moving forward with the plan, which could pave the way for massive industrialization of the Baca Refuge.
Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/yellowstone/takeaction and tell the Bush administration to halt the Baca oil and gas project until a thorough study of its potentially devastating environmental impacts is carried out.
The Baca refuge is an important calving ground for deer and elk and provides a natural sanctuary for imperiled wildlife, including the ferruginous hawk, the threatened burrowing owl, the greater and lesser sandhill crane and the Rio Grande sucker, an endangered fish. Over 4,000 elk depend on the area for critical winter habitat and calving grounds to shelter newborns.
Thousands of migrating birds visit the refuge each spring and fall, and hundreds of ancient Native American artifacts lie buried under ancient layers of sand. World-class archeological sites dating back some 11,500 years have been found nearby.
The proposed drilling project threatens to transform this irreplaceable wildland into an industrial zone -- contaminating air, land and waterways and unleashing a barrage of drilling-related traffic and noise. Even the adjacent Great Sand Dunes National Park could be at risk.
Energy companies currently own the rights to oil and gas reserves beneath the refuge. But the Bush administration has the authority to block reckless and destructive industrialization on these lands.
Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/yellowstone/takeaction and demand that the Bush administration protect the Baca National Wildlife Refuge from the far-reaching impacts of oil and gas drilling.
Thank you for helping to protect our last remaining Rocky Mountain wildlife habitats.
Sincerely,
Frances Beinecke President Natural Resources Defense Council

Anthony was waiting to die because despite the fact that there are laws in this country which are intended to protect the lives and rights of people like Anthony, Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc. decided that they needed their money more than Anthony needed to live, so they disconnected the electricity at the family residence.
In August of 2007 there was a woman in Florida who was also on a respirator, and she lost her life because the electric disconnected her service and over a bill that was less than $200.00. This particular case made national news, yet there are still utility companies that dare to attack our most vunerable of citizens. Anthony survived without his respirator for 9 long and agonizing hours due to the fact that family members took turns respirating him through the use of a hand pump.
We have to send Progressive Energy Carolinas, Inc. and every other utility company in this country a message that these attacks on respirator patients is unacceptable, unlawful and immoral.
We need to get bullfighting banned, and as you'll see from the news submitted by Live, Spanish politicians are trying to convince the European Parliament NOT to ban it. Please give us strength, support a ban by signing the petition.
We urgently need signatures - it would be great to have a thousand to hand in to the Spanish Embassy in London this week but there is a long way to go. Please help. This is a lovely and innocent man who deserves all the help we can give him. He is in danger of being returned to Morocco where he has already been severely tortured. Please, please sign and if possible forward to even just a few friends. My thanks again. Love, Eleanor
Ivan Cepeda is one of Colombia's most prominent human rights activists and the recipient of Human Rights First's Roger Baldwin Medal of Liberty in 2007. Many of you took action last year to demand that the false criminal charges against him be dropped.
On February 4, there were worldwide protests against Colombian guerrillas (FARC). Now Cepeda and others are organizing similar peaceful marches on March 6 against human rights violations by another major party to the conflict in Colombia, paramilitary groups.
Despite wholehearted support for the anti-FARC protests, the Colombian government has opposed the anti-paramilitary protest. More alarmingly, a Presidential adviser stated on national radio that the anti-paramilitary protest organizers, including Cepeda, were guerilla terrorists. After these comments, Cepeda and other human rights defenders have received death threats from paramilitaries.
Please tell the Colombian government that it is unacceptable to endanger the lives of human rights activists by smearing them as guerillas. Demand that the Colombian President correct his adviser's statement and recognize that everyone has the right to participate in the March 6 protests.
Tell Harry Winston stop lagging and sign on to the Golden Rules!
A laggard bejewels the stars In just a few days, Hollywood's celebrities will gather in L.A. for the Oscar awards ceremony. Many of the red-carpet stars will be outfitted in Harry Winston jewelry. Past Winston-wearers include Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie, Susan Sarandon, Renee Zellweger and Queen Latifah.
Stars don't shine wearing "dirty" gold Unfortunately, the jeweler to the stars has yet to commit to sourcing its gold and precious metals from cleaner sources. Already, 28 major jewelers, including Tiffany & Co., Cartier, and Piaget, have signed on to the "Golden Rules" criteria for more responsible metals sourcing. So why is Harry Winston lagging behind?
Urge Harry Winston to do the right thing! We've tried to get Harry Winston on board through letters, phone calls and in-person meetings. Now, we need your help to nudge them in the right direction. Please take action!
SIGN AGAINST CHINA'S BEAR FARMS FOR BILE and against China's FUR methods! February 20, 2008 6:25 AM
This one's in Spanish, but please do sign it, it´s against China's horrific acts of cruelty towards animals in general, but especially towards animals used for fur and towards bears (to get their bile). I set it up on behalf of a Spanish organisation called Anima Naturalis who campaign heavily against animal cruelty.
Urge Busan's Lotte Hotel to Close Tiger 'Exhibit'!
The Lotte Hotel is Central Busan, Korea, is keeping a Siberian tiger named Cesar confined to a small display window in the hotel's breakfast room. Cesar lives among artificial plants and rocks in a barren enclosure—three walls and the roof of which are completely open to the outdoors, giving him no protection from the hot sun, torrential rains, or freezing winter temperatures. Several guests have reported that Cesar spends much of his time pacing and is showing signs of "zoochosis," a condition in which captive animals express their frustration and loneliness through obsessive, repetitive, and even self-destructive behaviors.
The Lotte Hotel has sentenced Cesar to a lifetime of boredom and loneliness. In the wild, tigers roam territories of up to 650 square kilometers, but Cesar's entire enclosure measures only a little more than a few square meters! Even the biggest enclosure cannot provide Cesar with the space, exercise, privacy, or mental stimulation he needs.
Please join People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia-Pacific in urging the Lotte Hotel to secure a more appropriate home for Cesar immediately.

Take Action on This Issue
Subject:
Dear [ Decision Maker ],
(Edit Letter Below)
I am writing to express my concern about Cesar, the Siberian tiger who spends his days languishing in a cramped enclosure in the Lotte Hotel breakfast room. Tigers' extraordinarily complex physical and psychological needs cannot be met in captivity.
Cesar's imprisonment is doing nothing to attract business to your hotel - in fact, most people would be saddened by his plight. I urge you to take immediate action and find him a safe, secure, and permanent home where he can have freedom and space to engage in his natural behaviors.
Sincerely, [Your name]

All activists: Please Sign the petition to thank Vietnamese officials and citizens who took the first steps to protect the critically endangered saola and urge them to continue their efforts to ensure that this imperiled species survives.
To: The Ministry of Health and Welfare and some companies who test on animals for beauty, fabric, home care products in Japan. Such as Shiseido, Kao, Kanebo, Kose, Menardo, P&G, Max Factor, Johnson & Johnson, Nippon Lever, Pola, Japanese Consumers Co-op Union, Lion, Mandom, Hoyu, Oppen, Kiss Me Cosmetics, Saisyunkan Seiyaku, Sunstar, Naris, Noevir, Feminine, etc.
Human beings ought to have kindness, compassion and responsibility in the way they treat animals. Abusing the innocent animals is a shameful crime.
Animal testing for cosmetics, shampoos and hairstyling products, skin care products, tissue and towel products, laundry and dishwashing detergents, oral care products, and household cleaners is needless, arrogant and absolutely cruel. It is obvious that the poisonous substance is harmful for human beings and environment even though you have tested on animals for billion times.
It is nonsense and selfish of you insisting that animal testing is necessary to protect the consumers. Because everyone can choose harmless and cruelty free products.
We, the undersigned, ask you to stop all animal testing for beauty and house care products. You have to sell cruelty free products like other civilized companies are doing. Enlightened countries have already banned animal testing for beauty and house care products.
We, the undersigned, cannot agree to the fact that some companies are exporting animal cruelty free cosmetics though they are selling cruel one in domestic trade. It is an insult to the home consumers.
We, the undersigned, will never purchase products while the company is torturing and murdering animals. And also, we will keep asking worldwide people to boycott the cruel products. If you wish your company would survive through the new century, you should stop animal testing immediately.
Petition: Homeless Veterans February 19, 2008 3:00 PM
"Who are homeless veterans?
The U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) says the nation's homeless veterans are mostly males (4 % are females). The vast majority are single, most come from poor, disadvantaged communities, 45% suffer from mental illness, and half have substance abuse problems. America’s homeless veterans have served in World War II, Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam War, Grenada, Panama, Lebanon, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Operation Iraqi Freedom, or the military’s anti-drug cultivation efforts in South America. Forty-seven percent of homeless veterans served during the Vietnam Era. More than 67% served our country for at least three years and 33% were stationed in a war zone."
From the petition author (Care2 member, Wilfred Marks):
"The only state in the United States that does not have a domiciliary (home for homeless veterans) is Nebraska (America's Heartland). This is just plain wrong!!!
Please sign a petition to locate a HOME for HOMELESS VETERANS in Nebraska. There are 4 empty buildings on the Campus of the Lincoln VA Medical Center that could be used for Homeless Veterans. All they need is a staff (babysitters). The staff could be provided by volunteers like myself!!!
They protected you!!! . . . Don't you owe them a warm place to stay?!?"
I´m sorry, I know we're not supposed to comment here, but this is exactly why I´m commenting... do we really need to record the fact that we have signed? I thought this was for petitions only... It would be so much easier if we stuck to the rules, especially to help the collators! It takes much longer to go through all the links for petitions because of the comments. Also, I thought we were supposed to be separating the USA petitions (where non-USA people cannot sign) etc etc. It's hard work going through all the messages, digging out the links for the petitions, but if we're also getting the USA ones and we don't know they are, it takes much longer, as you go to them then realise you cannot sign anyway. Sorry to sound so tough and maybe horrid, it's not my intention, but can we not keep some kind of order here? I thought that was the whole point of this group, and it's taken me so long to sign them all! Thank you so much and apologies again.

Pamela Anderson and Brigitte Bardot Unite: "Love Seals, Don’t Club Them!" Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
One thing you should know about blondes, we tend to stick together, especially when it comes to helping animals. And since two legendary blonde bombshells and all 'round inconic sex goddesses are better than one, Brigitte Bardot and Pamela Anderson have now united to call for an immediate end to the Canadian seal hunt.
Photo Credit: Star Max Inc. This afternoon while visiting the Brigitte Bardot Foundation in Paris, Pamela filled in for Mme Bardot (who is ill and can't travel at the moment) and held a press conference publicly condeming the seal hunt and everyone who wears or designs fur.
The famous blondes want everyone to help stop the annual hunt in which hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals are bludgeoned to death with clubs and "hakapiks" (clubs with a metal hook on the end), for their skins. BABY SEALS!!!
I just can't understand how anyone could ever witness this and still think it's OK to wear seal fur or any fur for that matter. It's hideous and disgusting and evil.
Please sign our petition asking the Canadian government to permanently end this cruel practice.
The suffering of chimpanzees and other animals used for research is not limited to what goes on in actual experiments. Their experience ongoing phisical and mental suffering from the endless boredom.... Pleas take action.
I'm not really sure what a "collator" is, but if you need another one, please let me know. I sincerely want to help. I have something that really "BUGS" me about Care2. Often time there are posts by people that I'm interested in but posts are never dated. I think each post should include a date so you know how old it is before you reply.

Dear Tammy,
February 20th is an anniversary we do not look forward to celebrating. That day marks one full year that the Bush administration has stalled ship strike protections for endangered North Atlantic right whales—a year in which two more North Atlantic right whales were struck, out of a population that totals only about 350. How many more whales need to be injured and killed from ship strikes before the Bush administration will take action to protect them? Let the President’s Office of Management and Budget hear your voice on behalf of whales.
Ship strikes are the number one cause of death and serious injury to endangered whales, but rather than demanding responsible business practices from shipping companies, the government has stalled rulemaking that would force ships to slow down to protect critically endangered whales. A few influential shipping industry interests have the resources to be heard loud and clear by the Bush administration, while the administration continues to ignore clear scientific evidence showing that slower speeds would save whales. The Bush administration needs to hear your voice on behalf of whales.
Not exactly a petition but we need to vote on this !!!!!!!!!!!!! February 14, 2008 8:31 AM
Subjectlease vote YES to fur being inhumane to wear.-we are losing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Date:Thu, 14 Feb 2008 10:01:20 +0200
I can not BELIEVE that there are more people saying that it's NOT inhumane to trap an animal, skin it alive, and then wear it. WTF is wrong with people? Can most people now understand why I am advocating for animals rights now? This stuff is absolutely cruel and ridiculous!
A desperad plea for more signature’s! Signing alone is good but not enough! Please forward this mess February 13, 2008 4:42 PM
A desperad plea for more signature’s! Signing alone is good but not enough! Please forward this message and cross post in other groups so we can truly make a difference.
I would like to ask everyone to sign my petition against the monsters who throw animals to the ground and then skin them ALIVE for their fur.If you have time please watch the film (not for sensitive souls) and send it to all your friends. The film is just a horror show and it needs to stop now I have put a lot of time into this but there are just not enough signatures yet to make a difference.
You can do even more by
1) putting this message in your own group or crossposting in other Care2 or myspace groups.
2) Copy & pastethe URL’s displayed below, or you can find it at the petition site itself next to the video and above the picture of the fox, and create a banner for the petition

It's true! If you are a multi-national oil company, that is. A week ago today, the Bush administration auctioned off 30 million acres of Alaska wilderness to oil and gas companies, who will now be able to get their hands on the regions estimated 15 billion barrels of oil. The going price of our land? $86.67 an acre - a little over 17 cents a barrel.
Oh, and guess what else? These 30 million acres are home to half the world's remaining polar bears.
It would be a lot harder for oil companies to wreak havoc on this wild landscape if the polar bear were protected under the Endangered Species Act - but, par for the course, the Bush administration has been dragging its heels on awarding polar bears this protected designation, missing deadline after deadline.
Will you join me in calling on Congress to stand up to the Bush administration - and demand a stop any new oil drilling in polar bear habitat?
For over two years now, environmentalists (like yours truly) have been working to protect the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act - but the Fish and Wildlife Service keeps delaying a decision. We couldn't figure out why, and then a certain 30 million acre tract of polar bear habitat hits the auction block - an area of land that would never be opened if the bear were protected.
We can't let 2008 will go down in history as the year the Bushies took every last thing they could get their hands on. Please take a minute right now, email your members of Congress, and ask them to stop any oil and gas leases in polar bear habitat.

We Will Fight for Your Freedom !!! Thank You Eleanor! Fellow Actitivists I Urge You to Please Write to: Farid HiIIa I am so Greatful that People Like Hans & Eleanor Exsist!!! ~ No Surrender~
Please read the share and write for Farid. This is an extremely serious and for me heartbreaking situation. This young man phoned me every Sunday morning and made me laugh. He has twice in his life suffered serious torture - I can't read about it!! but I know others who have and it's horrific. Yet there is not a shred of anger or bitterness in him. He has spent five years in prison for nothing, just fighting extradition to Spain. He is innocent.
If Spain extradite him to Morocco, it will be more of the same for him. Unimaginable physical torture and perhaps for the rest of his life. Please take just a little time out of your life to help him. He deserves all the help he can get. Write to these people. Let them know people care. Love, Eleanor
A petition will follow. My thanks. I thank you for everything you do.
If you could find some time to forward this, I would be more than grateful. Many thanks! Eleanor
Dear Friends - Farid's lawyers (former UK lawyers who will be paying for his Spanish lawyers because he is innocent) now know where he is even though he is still being held incommunicado. What is frightening is that they think that he is being 'questioned' by both the Moroccans and the Spanish. Please write to give him a message of support. Amnesty International has been informed by his lawyers of the latest developments and hopefully they will produce an action.

As you may know, bestiality is the act of raping animals. It causes psychological and physical damage. If you are tired or seeing animals be raped, sign here.
Petitions care2 the perfect system.. February 11, 2008 6:22 AM
We will have to make sure that people do not receive one petition over and over again. If we do not spread these and all do the same work..we can concentrate on the new petitions! And make sure that all petitions are listed in a database that can be checked on the members.. I invite care2 to solve this problem! They could run a scan on all petitions that have not yet been signed! All true activists would sign all petitions that they did not yet sign if they are for good causes no matter what, animals women, children, human rights, cool it, cancer research research, clean water for all people in the world, AIDS HIV, Education for all children on this planet you name it we will sign it but make it more easy. And keep all petitions in the system or if organisation want to run the own petitions they should use the Care2 system on their sites.... Imagine what the impact of that would be as soon as the community wakes up!!!

NEW PETITIONS,and i do mean NEW!! February 10, 2008 6:37 PM
This thread is for new petitions,ie. ones that you have just made/or sourced from the care 2 site, just make sure they ARE NEW, also please read any submission very carefully to make sure that the cause is just, and not a Puppy Farm or some such pulling a cheap trick.
DO NOT OUTSOURCE PETITIONS ie from outside care 2 as these will be dealt with in a seperate thread, also petitions which are just for a particular country and its citizens such as the U.S.A will also have a separate thread.
DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING BUT THE LINK and a line or two at most of description (date petition made would be helpful)
We are trying not to cover old ground, so please keep it NEW!! when you see a new petition sign it by all means, but leave it at that, at the end of each week we will try to collate all submissions and send them out to be forwarded on to your respective circles of friends.
P>S> does anyone want to volunteer to be the collator?
