please support our livestock production reduction petition for the animals! March 13, 2009 5:07 PM
Hi all!!
The University of California, San Diego student organization: VEG
(Vegetarian Environmentalist Group) is happy to present an online
petition which aims to reduce the livestock industry via means of
removal of governmental subsidies for livestock farmers as well as
implementation of tax for livestock products for their detrimental
external social burden on the environment. Here is our petition link:
The Izembek National Wildlife Refuge is one of Alaska's most ecologically unique refuges,
with lagoons, tundra and stunning mountain peaks. This incredible
habitat is home to brown bears, wolverines, caribou and other wildlife.
But a proposed road would slice through the ecological heart of this special place, devastating fragile habitat and the wildlife that lives there.
Tammy, as a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, your Senator, Blanche Lincoln, can defeat Ted Stevenss and Lisa Murkowskis costly and unnecessary bill that would blaze a destructive path through one of our national treasures.
Call your Senator today and tell her to oppose a path of destruction through the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge. A Committee vote could come as early as Wednesday.
Blanche Lincoln DC:(202) 224-4843 Local:(501) 375-2993
Deliver this simple message: My
name is Tammy and Im calling from Berryville. I want to urge my
Senator to oppose S. 1680 -- a bill that would create a destructive
road through the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge. S. 1680 would
devastate this special place by blazing an expensive and unnecessary
road right through the heart of the Izembek Refuge, disturbing the
fragile habitat and wildlife that live there. I urge you to stop this
harmful and costly road by opposing S. 1680. Thank you for your time.
Tens
of thousands of waterfowl, seabirds and shorebirds rely on the Izembek
for nesting and feeding. In fact, the refuge shelters the threatened Stellers eider and nearly the entire population of the Pacific black brant and the emperor goose each fall.
With your help, we can defeat this costly and destructive plan -- and preserve one of Alaskas most spectacular places.
Sincerely,
Noah Matson Vice President for Land Conservation Defenders of Wildlife
As climate change
causes the continued shrinkage of Arctic sea ice, polar bears are
increasingly at risk. Leading American scientists say placing the polar
bear on the federal Endangered Species list is key to its survival.
If the Secretary
listens to the scientists, the polar bear will gain important
protections. Additionally, federal agencies will need to consider how
their future activities could affect the species -- and that could be
an important step in leading the government to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Please sign our petition to protect polar bears today.
Right now a project called the Yazoo Pumps
threatens to destroy 200,000 acres of Mississippi Delta wetlands
the home of the Louisiana black bear.
The Environmental Protection Agency
recently announced a plan to stop the Yazoo Pumps, but
we need your help to make sure there is a groundswell of
public support for this plan.
May 5th is the fast-approaching deadline to
send your official public comment to the Environmental
Protection Agency supporting its plan to stop the Yazoo
Pumps.
For the first time in nearly 20 years, the
EPA is using its "veto authority" to stop the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers from constructing the environmentally destructive
Yazoo Pumps project.
Just one minute of your time will
help protect 200,000 acres of Mississippi Delta
wetlands that would be drained and destroyed by the
pumps. These are the same wetlands where Theodore Roosevelt
famously refused to shoot a bear that had been tied to a tree
an action that sparked the creation of the teddy
bear.
Stopping this project will also
protect some of the best wildlife habitat in the heart
of the Mississippi River Flyway, keep several wildlife
refuges and national forests healthy and save
taxpayers more than $220 million!
On April 17th, hundreds of people came to
the public hearing in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to support the
EPA's plan to veto the pumps.
Now YOU can help by personalizing and
sending comments to the EPA to make sure it "Dumps the Pumps" to
protect Mississippi's precious wetlands and wildlife.
Almost 1 million pythons, boa constrictors and anacondas
were imported into the United States from 2002-2006more
than 500 a dayand more were bred in captivity here.
The practice of keeping such snakes as pets is a
threat to human health and safety, the environment, and the
welfare of the animals themselves. They are dangerous, may carry
disease and can wreak havoc on ecosystems if released into the
wild. Additionally, the snakes suffer when
people cannot meet their complex dietary and habitat
needs.
Between now and April 30, The U.S. Fish
& Wildlife Service (FW is accepting public
comment on a notice of inquiry, the
first step in a process that could ultimately prohibit
importation and interstate trade of pythons, boa constrictors,
and anacondas as pets.
hello all, are you as tired as I am about laws in certain states, how they are ignored, weak, not enforced anywhere or too many loopholes everywhere, me too. I am so fed up with Missouri crap, I am jumping off the band wagon and taking matters into my own hands. Join me and sign this petition, animals deserve better. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/wake-up-missouri
Release and Restitution for Chimpanzees in U.S. Laboratories
Bill
Introduced to End Invasive Research on
Chimpanzees!
Our promise to all the chimpanzees
we know - that we will help all those who
are still waiting in laboratories - will be fulfilled
with passage of the Great Ape Protection Act.
Dear
Friends,
I am
writing to announce very good
news:
The
Great Ape Protection Act was introduced today by U.S.
Representatives Edolphus Towns (D-NY), David Reichert (R-WA),
Jim Langevin (D-RI), and Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD.) With strong
bi-partisan leadership, the bill seeks to end invasive
biomedical research and testing on all great apes in U.S.
laboratories and to release all federally owned great apes into
permanent sanctuary.
Project
R&R is working diligently with HSUS and other
organizations and individuals to secure a precedent setting
number of co-sponsors and a groundswell of public support for
this bill, which offers the promise of protection from research
to all chimpanzees now languishing in laboratories, many for
more than 40 years.
Sincere thanks to
all of you for your ongoing support. And thank you for
remembering as we continue to ask for your help as we work
toward our legislative goals.
PLEASE contact your
federal legislators and urge them to join Rep. Towns, Reichert,
Langevin, and Bartlett by signing onto the Great Ape Protection
Act as a co-sponsor.
By taking
action and asking your family and friends to do so as well,
we will build the support essential to pass the Great Ape
Protection Act!
Sincerely, Theodora Capaldo, EdD President & Executive
Director NEAVS/Project
R&R
The Great Ape
Protection Act
Prohibits:
> Invasive research
on great apes > Federal funding of such
research both within and outside of the
U.S. > Transport of great apes for such
research > Federal breeding of great apes for such
research
Requires:
> Permanent
retirement of
all federally-owned great
apes
Species like the tiger - one of the most spectacular animals on earth - are disappearing at an alarming rate.
Its true. Today less than 2,500 tigers roam the earth's wilds with no more than 250 in any one population.
Their decline is spine-chilling. These
majestic animals are dissected for use as medicinal remedies their
habitats are swallowed up for farming and housing as populations in
Asia increase and hundreds of tigers are killed with their valuable
coats sold in the black market.
And tigers aren't the only ones
disappearing. Another species is pushed towards extinction every 20
minutes. Extinctions have not happened so fast since the dinosaurs were
killed by the collision of an enormous asteroid with our planet
65,000,000 years ago.
Tammy, you have the power to stop the
extinction clock. These creatures are counting on you to give voice to
life on Earth, and slow down these astronomical rates of extinction.
There are two easy ways you can take action right now.
Sign the petition
and help us reach our goal of 20,000 people (1,000 signers for every
minute of the extinction clock) to send a powerful message
to influential leaders at the World Conservation Conference in
Barcelona.
Donate a Buck-a-Minute ($1 for every minute of the extinction clock - that's just $20) and help me protect critical habitats worldwide, curb climate change, and build conservation capacity to respond to the extinction crisis.
Your caring and generous $20 donation not
only helps assure that tigers are here on our planet for good, but that
all species have a better chance of survival - even humanity
ourselves.
There are a lot of ways you could spend
$20 - but none as meaningful as being part of the change that helps
save splendid animals like the tiger. Please don't wait another minute.
Help us reach our goal of $20,000 and 20,000 names today!
Thank you so much for your support, Tom Brooks Center for Applied Biodiversity Science Conservation International
P.S. Want to know the science behind how we set the extinction clock? Find out here.
We're over half way there...help us get 20,000 names!
I don't know if I have posted this to this group or not but if I have please realize how important this subject is to me. The US wildlife trade is inexcuesable. It is 5 billion dollars a year and world wide it is over 8 billion. These animals are meant to be left in their natural habitats to roam free. If imported and exported many suffer horific deaths, some mammed for life, abandoned, starved, abused. Some are taken to sanctuaries already overloaded with animals while others are set free in ecosystems that aren't their own upsetting the balance. Some who are set free seek human contact for food endangering those around them. Please, with tears in my eyes and lump in my throat help me fight this! Please pass this petition on to all you know, post it everywhere, please get involved ! Thank you so much. Glezela
Photographer and America's Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker just took a trip to Canada to shoot probably the cutest models he'll ever have the pleasure of working with...baby seals! My crush on him just got about ten times bigger.
Of course as we all know the pleasure is short lived because in less than a month those same baby seals will most likely be bludgeoned to death in Canada's barbaric annual seal hunt.
So Barker decided to do what he does best and photograph the seals to show the world the amazing faces of the gentle, trusting animals who will soon become fashion's latest victims.
"I hope to raise awareness in the youth of today with the graphic images of both the joy and desperation from the largest mammalian birthing site and consequent killing fields on Earth. This sort of behavior cannot and will not be tolerated by the youth of today and I intend to do something about it," he said.
How marvelous that someone who's actually involved in the fashion industry is speaking up for the baby seals instead of cashing in on their horrible deaths. Of course, Barker's not the only celeb calling for an immediate end to the seal hunt and I'm sure he won't be the last...unless it's actually stopped once and for all that is, and that's where you come in.
Barker is calling for the youth of today to do something about the seal hunt and since youth = you please sign our petition
Add your name to the petition urging Prime Minister Stephen Harper to end Canada's cruel seal hunt. Please forward the petition to your friends and family.
Every year in Canada, hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals are mercilessly slaughtered for their skins, and we want you to help get this cruel practice banned by signing PETA's seal petition. Watch the video to see more.
Canadian-born Pamela Anderson has joined PETA and animal activists worldwide in condemning the hunt.
"As a proud Canadian who frequently travels abroad," says Pamela, "I am alarmed that people are starting to see Canada as a country more beholden to a pack of greedy hunters and to the seal-skin 'fashion' whims of a few countries than to the massive international outcry against such a barbaric activity."
Santorini a well known Greek Island with a unique oiko system which is threatened by this wreck. Please help save the enviroment and all the sea life in this area.
Living in an amusement park is no fun for the seven elephants at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. If you visit the Elephant Encounter, notice the bullhooks in the hands of the elephant keepers. Bullhooks are shaped like fireplace pokers with a sharp steel hook at the end.
We feel that the capture and breeding of wild non-human primates from Mauritius for import into the United States or any other nation for the purpose of "scientific research" is an unconscionable abuse and subjects those primates to lives of unmitigating hell. We also feel that the value of such experiments are dubious at best and do not merit the destruction of other living, sentient beings, particularly some of our closest relatives.
Covanceis an animal testing lab trying to come to Chandler, Arizona. They have MANY Animal Welfare Acts violations as well as a terrible history of controlling dangerous viruses such as Ebola! The city council and mayor's office have gone behind closed doors to bring this company to the city without any input from local residents. We are trying to stop that! Covance is clearly NOT a company we want doing business near us...or anywhere!
REUNITE CHIMP BROTHERS HUNTER AND LYONS!! I'm begging you, can't we please try to get this to target? Let's reunite these poor boys as they have suffered ENOUGH!! http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/877116649
Hunter and Lyons were removed in 2005 from the Yerkes Primate Facility and sent to separate locations after 21 years together. Your help is vital to see that these two chimpanzees are reunited together in permanent sanctuary - forever.
South Africa has announced it will reverse its 1995 ban on killing elephants and resume culling of elephants in May. Elephant family groups could be rounded up by helicopters and shot from the air by marksmen.
All activists: Please Sign the petition to thank Vietnamese officials and citizens who took the first steps to protect the critically endangered saola and urge them to continue their efforts to ensure that this imperiled species survives.
Subject: Allow a European Convention To Protect Pets and Stray Animals
A member of the European Parliament, Mr. Alain Hutchinson, is committed to cooperate with animal welfare and to get a "European Convention Protecting Pets and Stray Animals" passed as soon as possible.
He needs 1 million signatures in order to present the project to the Parliament. That means we need to get hard at work and collect those signatures.
Can you please help by signing this petition? It's easy and won't take much time. To go to the petition copy this link to your browser: http://www.romaniaanimalrescue.com/Europe.htm
I posted this petition I had just started this past friday. It's also to stop the trapping of otters and bobcats in Illinois. I had immediately started this petition after reading the news article that was posted this past Friday night. I posted it in the "New Petitions and I mean New!" thread right after I created it. Just wanted to post this so that I can let you all know that I am running one,too.. and don't want to be forgotten because I'm willing to fght this as well.
My good friend Leslie Postin has discovered that Illinois state are about to allow the trapping of Otters that were reintroduced following man's destruction of these wonderfull animals in the past. I need not tell you just how cruel trapping is nor the suffering the animal is subjected to before being dying...I hope I do not need to tell you that. This madness has to be stopped before it is started. Nature is not some sort of fairground for man's entertainment. It has a job to do. Otters help to keep fish stocks healthy by weeding out the sick ones. Leslie has done a petition which is http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/oppose-trapping-season-on-otters-and-bobcats-in-illinois
I have created a petition for a woman in my state who was wrongly charged for trying to help a dying dog that was penned up and neglected in someone's yard. We are trying to get the PA governor to pardon her- no charges were brought against the dog's owner. Please sign this petition and forward it to as many people as you can. I would greatly appreciate it!!!
Online action - Please send an important letter to the Australian Prime Minister, who can end this cruel trade. Urge Mr Rudd to uphold his word to protect animals from cruelty.
We're sorry, but based on your address, you are not eligible to take this alert. This alert is intended for California activists only because the letters are going to California Representatives.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMF is considering allowing the states of Washington and Oregon to kill California sea lions at the Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River in a misguided attempt to protect endangered salmon from being eaten by the sea lions.
NMFS’s proposal would allow Washington and Oregon to capture and lethally inject or shoot as many as 85 sea lions each year. According to the Environmental Assessment (EA) this proposal is the NMFS’s "preferred option."
This crisis over endangered salmon and hungry sea lions is just one example of what happens when humans degrade an ecosystem. Please tell NMFS to choose a more effective and humane way to protect endangered salmon.
Comments are needed by February 19. So please don’t delay — take action and you may be able to avert this tragedy.

On February 12, 2008, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will hold an advisory hearing to consider an ordinance which will prohibit rodeos and the use of wild and exotic animals in circuses and traveling shows. If this ordinance is approved it will affect both private and public lands within the county.
Your attendance in support of this ordinance is important, as the number of people who show up will likely influence the outcome. So please consider taking a half day off work if you can — a few hours of your time will make an enormous difference for animals used in rodeos and circuses.
We also urgently ask that you contact the Supervisors prior to next week’s meeting, to urge their support for the ban.
Thank you for using your voice to protect animals from these inhumane and archaic events!
I am cross-posting this from another group, to help get this goal met for petition signatures. Please sign, and forward to friends. Thank you. Much Love and Peace...Namaste, Dar
