9 PUPPIES BEING GASSED TOMORROW MORNING - TUESDAY IS THEIR LAST DAY! Picture Just outrageous, this gorgeous litter of 9 is listed as UNADOPTABLE which means they can only be released to a rescue. Having pulled from this shelter before it generally means the puppies are scared, shy, thin, or skittish. Due to overpopulation if you are not 100% perfect your fate is death by gassing. We can commit to them if you can help us out. Our good friends Brandy and Jess at Throw Away pups are willing to quarantine these kids for Help Save One at their facility AND transport them for $100 per puppy (all inclusive) which is EXCELLENT. This includes a 2 week quarantine, transportation, and all their care. If you can help us out click on the urgent dog fund above. We need to be able to fund this endeavor and we know you will come through for them! Can you even imagine gassing this family? Interested in adopting?? Fill out an application online.

Ana's & Her Babies Fate, December 09, 2009 1:13 AM

This was Ana's fate who ended up  was faithful all her life.....After all it  fault that instead being sterilized not to make more puppies was left to bring lots of babies.... over night We are desperate, we have puppies all over, we need donors to support our hard and expensive work, and we need people to understand that we can't function without permanent financial support. We have mummies to sterilize, so that they don’t have the same fate like Ana again, not to have more unwanted babies. Also, the babies need internal and external deworming, vaccination so that we can finally put them for adoption action that needs lots of work and special food.

Brandy needs a home. December 08, 2009 2:52 AM

Let me tell you a little bit about my girl Brandy. She's neutered and 11yrs old (you'd never know it) and 35lbs She is a princess. Loves attention but doesn't like to be croweded. Cuddling has to be on her terms which is almost always. She loves sitting with her head resting on your lap  while you watch tv and pet her head between her ears.  Her
ears love being rubbed. Loves to be petted for hours if you have the time. She will let you know when she has to go potty and be ready to let her out when she tells you or you may clean up an accident. She is house broken but occasionally doesn't give much notice that she needs to go. Also if she gets excited like when you first come home she needs to be let out right away.

Brandy had back surgery sometime in 2001 I believe. She jumped off the sofa when the doorbell rang and drug her back legs behind her. She didn't know that her back end was paralyzed. We took her to U of P on the advice of our Vet. She had emergency surgery to repair a herniated disc in her back. She recovered very well but this is what led to her having accidents. As I said she is house broken and she does not like having accidents in the house. Let her out frequently and encourage her to walk around since this helps her to move everything the way it should. She sometimes walks outside while she is going potty.

While she loves to be petted you must remember that her back is sensitve. You can pet gently but if you put to much pressure on her back she will turn her head and flee nip at you to let you know not to do that. She takes treats from your hand very lady like, very gentle.

Her feet are very sensitive. She will let you dry her feet if she gets them wet (she thinks she's a cat and doesn't like getting wet) but don't think you can clip her nails by yourself.

I have pampered her and on rainy days I would hold an umbrella over her so she wouldn't get wet. I know, a bit much, but I love her and would do anything for her.She also likes to sleep on something cushy like my bed.

Mr. Beagy in FLA needs a Home. December 02, 2009 12:11 AM

ASAP!
pls send to GSD rescues and any rescue that might take an older GSD:   Look at this BEAUTIFUL boy!  Kathy is a rescuer, not the owner, but if you can help, she can put you in touch with them. Kathys email is DevineVirgo@aol.com (@ aol .com)

I got an e-mail from a woman who has to move and cannot find a place that will not let her have her dog, below is her e-mail to me. I will attach his picture too, do know if you can help or not. Duke is a German Shepherd who will be 9 years old in December.  We adopted him from the animal shelter when he was 5 months old.  He is lovable and a big baby who loves to have his back scratched, and loves affection.  He loves to play with other dogs but has a right hip problem he fell down the basement steps when he was 2 the steps had no carpeting, so he is afraid of going down inside steps with no carpeting.  Has no problem going down outside steps.  If he is playing and turns his leg or hip a certain way he will cry.  I give him an aspirin in cheese or lunch meat every 4 hrs as needed and he is back to normal in about 2 days.  He loves to be outside winter and summer.  Will sit outside for hrs at a time as long as he is sure you are inside.  He has lost my husband and mother who he was close to and will now lose me so he will need a lot of
love.  I feed him Beneful Healthy Weight dry and either Beneful wet or Purina wet mixed in with dry.  If I do not have wet food I put gravy over the dry. occasionally table food.  When I leave the house I give him treats and leave music on so he knows I will be back.  He is a barker no one can come near the house without him barking.  Strangers cannot just walk in.  I usually have to hold his collar until he sniffs them and I keep saying it's ok.  I baby sit a 7 month old baby and he just goes up and snuffs her and he was fine.  If I tell him no he does listen.  He does not let anyone touch his food while he is eating or his treats and toys while he is playing with them.  He is healthy no heart or worm problem or any medical problems.  He is loyal and wants a lot of love.  He also has a chip inserted and it registered with the American Kennel Club.  If lost he can be tracked.  He has 2 lumps on his lower sides one on each side the fat has confirmed thru x-rays and test that they are fat deposits and nothing more no threat what so ever to him. I just want to say I love Duke and it breaks my heart to have to give him up, I only want him to have a good and lovable home.  Please do not put him to sleep.

duke of PA

My name is Mr. Beagy and I am an old guy that lived my life on the streets with my homeless dad. One day he just left me on the corner and never came back. While I was waiting for him, a mean pack of dogs attacked me and I was really ripped apart. A wonderful, caring lady saw me limping and bleeding and stopped to take care of me. She brought me home and took me to the doctor's office and he made me feel much better. I have been at her house since then, but there really isn't a lot of room for me bc she has many other dogs with special needs. She says that I am a very adoptable senior and I deserve to live inside with a family. I am very happy to be with all other dogs, cats and people. If you want to give me my chance, please call Kathy at 305-401-4693 or email her at klcremer@aol. com.

Good morning all – I have a friend who works with Hart 90, which I’m sure most of you have heard of. He’s asked me to help get the word out that The Greyhound Racetrack in Kenosha, Wisconsin is closing December 31 of this year. They have 900 Greyhounds that need to be adopted or they will be euthanized. That’s only 6 weeks away – not much time to place a large number of dogs. The more advertisement they get, the better the chance they have of being adopted so please feel free to pass this on to other who may be able to help.

Contacts are: Joanne Kehoe (Operations Director) 312-559-0887 or Dairyland Racetrack Adoption Center 262-612-8256. If you’re unable to reach either of these parties, let me know and I can contact a volunteer from that organization and have them get back to you.   dstoc@comcast.net

Maggie...
Please Help Us Keep Her Heart Beating! beating heart

This is the tale of a little pup named Maggie.....

Maggie was originally found as a stray in Darlington County South Carolina.  She was picked up by an Animal Control Officer and taken to the local high-kill shelter where she remained in residence for several weeks.  While at the shelter her name was "Babs".  Due to her name, and her absolutely adorable face, she caught the eye of Barbara Tilton from Ditty Dats & Dogs Rescue.  As, Babs, is also her nickname!!!!    With an instant connection with this little pup, Barbara stepped up to pull Babs from the shelter and provide her with a safe haven until an adoptive home could be found.

Babs came to rescue underweight, but full of spunk and sweetness!  You can view a video taken of her shortly after her arrival in rescue playing with some other foster puppies HERE.

After remaining in rescue for a few months packing on some much needed pounds Babs was adopted by a wonderful family.  She was quickly renamed Maggie too!  Maggie made an instant connection with her new mom and dad, as it was simply love at first sight!  She also made fast friends with Mya, the resident Boxer!

Things seemed to be going great for Maggie.  You can get much better than a fabulous family to love and a friend like Mya to play with.  But, that is where Maggie's story makes a turn that none of us saw coming.  After playing with Mya in the back yard -- they LOVE to play chase!!!! -- Maggie would have labored breathing and a rapid heart rate.  With the obvious concern over Maggie's symptoms she was taken in to see her veterinarian to find out what was going on with her.

Maggie's doctor did an exam, took a check x-ray, and also did an ultrasound of her heart.  He believes that Maggie has Cardiomyopathy and recommends that Maggie be taken to see Dr. Bill Tyrrell, Jr. with the Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates in Leesburg, VA.  Taking Maggie to the cardiologist will provide a firm diagnosis on her heart condition, and it will also provide options and a clearer picture about what is in store for her.

Cardiomyopathy is a heartbreaking diagnosis.  You can read more about the disease HERE.  Simply put -- there is no cure for this condition.  I know that personally, I am hoping that Maggie has been accidentally mis-diagnosed!  I know the odds of that are probably slim, but surely one can hope in the face of a future like what Maggie is facing.

As Maggie has stolen the hearts of her family in the short two weeks that she has been a member of their family, they would like to do what is best for her.  They want to take her to the cardiologist to see what the recommendation is for her future.  As Maggie doesn't appear to be in any pain at this time, it is quite possible to provide her with a longer quality and quantity of life by administering certain medications to offset the symptoms of Cardiomyopathy, such as Lasix's, etc.

Due to the dedication and love that Maggie's family has shown, Ditty Dats & Dogs Rescue would like to raise the money to pay for Maggie's visit to the cardiologist.  We feel that this is the least we can do.  There are not that many families that would adopt a puppy and want to keep her and see her through a life threatening disease, especially after two short weeks.  Maggie's family is simply AMAZING and KIND.  She couldn't have asked for a better family to be adopted by.

It is estimated that it will cost approximately $800 for the consultation with Dr. Tyrrell, the pediatric ultrasound that is needed, and any prescribed medications.  We do not know at this time, if any other tests will be required.  Can you help us to ensure that Maggie is given the best medical care possible during her time of need?  If Maggie's new family hasn't turned their backs on her after 2 weeks, how can I?  I am dedicated to raising the money to help give Maggie every chance possible at a long life.  Please ChipIn $5, $10, $20 -- every bit adds up.  And what it adds up to is simply INCREDIBLE.  Please... give the gift of life during this holiday season.  Let little Maggie into your heart and hopefully help to soothe hers.

Maggie aka Babs

WE HAVE 32 MORE FOREST FIRE DOGS COMING THIS SUNDAY ~ NOVEMBER 22th  !!!

We desperately need fosters homes for this coming Sunday's arrival!

The last four Sundays we took in over 120 dogs that were saved out of the California Forest Fires in San Bernardino.

There are over 800 acres on fire and over 1300 Firefighters and all these forgotten dogs were refused by the local shelter due to lack of space.

They give us two options either board them or euthanize them and because these dogs are so great we are boarding them & saving them and bringing them up to Seattle 30 dogs at a time !!!

These dogs are so lucky to be saved as many dogs did not make it out alive.

We are making arrangements to bring them up here on Sunday ~  November 22nd.

Please ask around to your friends, family and co workers for a month or two of loving a dog in desperate need.

* Must fill out a Foster Application

Brownie needs a Good Home November 22, 2009 3:19 AM

I have a weak heart for seniors.  But for this 92 year old man to refuse to leave his dog behind is just heartwarming. Please someone step forward and give Brownie a loving home so that this man may be with his wife again.
Brownie's owner is 92 years old and needs to go into an assisted living home...but won’t GO because of Brownie~

I am a 7-8 old year handsome boxer,
My mom was put into a home with Alzheimer’s about a year ago and my dad needs to be with her but he won’t leave me, he refuses to until I find a home or foster family. You see my mom is about 90 years old and dad. well he is a trooper at 92 years old.

I want to help my mom and dad by pleading for someone to give me a loving home. My aunts and uncles all say they “don’t need another dog”, so they can’t help. Please help this may be their last Christmas together; If you can help by fostering me or giving me a lifetime loving home please contact

dogs@classysassypaws.com

Oh yeah I will be completely vetted, up to date on all my vaccinations,
neutered and micro chipped.

He also has a thyroid condition which is probably why all his hair has fallen out and his skin is so bad! When we got him he was a mess, but with good medical care and lots of TLC, this little guy is going to thrive.

Unfortunately his dental is going to be considerably higher than most of the dentals we've done on doggies due to how bad it is. We are now about $500-$600 short of what  we need to be able to take care of his medical needs and to give him a good quality of life pain free!

If anyone can make a small tax deductible donation to The Pepper Foundation can be sent either through www.paypal.com under our email account which is planetheart@aol.com or to:

We understand if you cannot make a donation at this time,  but  you can help by even forwarding to a friend. thank you so much!

PLEASE HELP LITTLE MINGO, WE NEED TO RAISE FUNDS FOR HIS SURGERY!

our good friend Carly made this wonderful little video of Mingo the day we rescued him, thought we'de share it with you. oh she accidentally called Mingo a "she" but Mingo is a "he" will be changed soon.

we rescued this tiny boy from the North Central Animal shelter just in the nick of time. he was really sick when we got him out with an upper respiratory infection and a UTI. Poor little angel he was so stressed out!  He is the sweetest little old man ever! We just got his blood test results yesterday and unfortunately he does have kidney disease, and his liver enzymes are high and his white cell count also high, which can also be due to the serious infection in his mouth.

We NEED to do his dental ASAP because the infection is so bad it could actually shut his kidneys down. Also, his mouth is in alot of pain, and he is having a hard time eating. Due to kidney disease it will have to be done with extra care. and it looks like he is going to lose most of his teeth. He will need to be on Iv fluids before, during and after to flush out his kidneys from all the disease and bacteria in there. These little old guys can go into complete kidney failure if this is  not done properly. he is a real little truper though!

He also has a thyroid condition which is probably why all his hair has fallen out and his skin is so bad! When we got h

Who can help Lucy? November 17, 2009 12:51 AM

Farmingdale NY

Who can help Lucy?

This is Lucy. Lucy is a 9-10 year old beagle who was left by a dumpster and emaciated when she was about 2.5.

Someone found her and took her in and loved her to pieces. But Lucy's angel passed away.

She died in January '09 and Lucy has been in the house ALONE since then. The 2 older married children can not take her. I know one daughter has a child that is "cardiac". I am unsure about the other.

Because of their guilt, they over feed Lucy, so she needs to lose weight, but other than that, is healthy and current on her shots, etc.

Lucy is happy and playful normally- but because of this, she is very depressed, understandably.

She has been using a wee wee pads because someone only goes there once a day. Could you pass this on. Maybe we can get Lucy a home for thanksgiving?

I tried Beagle rescue and they don't take seniors. WTF???

Anyone else? We can get Lucy to wherever, we will make it work, just
please... someone, help Lucy find a home.

Surely, someone knows someone who can give her a forever home.

Please guys, WAR, stands for "Win Animal Rights", and they're not an Extremist Org, I know some people don't like those, and the're better than they sound,  a New York Org, fighting for Animals´ Rights, mostly through Demonstrations, and they're good, Peaceful, nonviolent People,

Please help save Oreo, don't let the ASPCA, New York, put down that Miracle baby, thrown off a 6-Story building in Brooklyn, and surviving,Act, send EMails, cassie ,

On November 3, 2009 in a WAR action alert, we asked the question "what ever happened to Oreo", the young dog, 1 year old,  that was thrown from the rooftop of a 6 story Brooklyn building?

Many of you wrote to the ASPCA and many of you forwarded the ASPCA's written replies to WAR.

Mr. Sayres told  those who wrote that Oreo is doing well,  healing and that a decision has not been made about what to do.

Now the whole ugly truth is starting to come out, as the ASPCA frantically tries to spin the story, in a way that will protect the ASPCA from scrutiny. See the New York Times story that was just published:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/13/nyregion/13oreo.html

You can post a comment to the NY Times article and we encourage you to do so, as we are sure that the ASPCA will be reading those comments.

Please write to or phone Ed Sayres immediately.

Ask them not to kill Oreo and to find a suitable rescue or rehabber for her.

Won't somebody please help him?  He has seen so many others at the shelter come and go....now his time on this earth is all but done.  RESCUE IS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY.
Bo had rescue lined up, but when another dog hurt Bo's leg they backed out. Bo's leg has healed and is fine now. A wonderful volunteer at the shelter has sponsored Bo and he is fully vaccinated, wormed and neutered.

LIPPY (SASHA) ---14 lbs SHIH TZU---URGENT URGENT URGENT!
Lippy is your basic little dog. She is friendly in general, but when she’s tired, she would rather be left alone. Below is a pic of her when she came in. She was quite a matted mess. She has been shaved now. You will find a pic of her like this as well. She is 7 yrs old. She was surrendered by her owner. The surrender form paints a clear picture. Sasha was given away 18 months ago. When the original owner saw the dog one week ago, she was in complete neglect. The original owner had Sasha for 5.5 yrs from the time she was 6 wks old. The surrender form states that Sasha has never shown signs of aggression and has lived with children. She is housebroken and barks when she wants to go outside. She has been spayed, updated on vaccines and is hw neg. She’s just not handling the shelter environment well. When she’s is tired, she reacts with some growling.

A835771 – Chyna

Chyna is a super sweet nine year old Yellow Lab that was brought in to the shelter last night by her owner.  The request was that we put her to sleep.  We just couldn’t – Chyna is full of life, eating & drinking normally and active like a 5 yr old.

Our Vet feels she has many years ahead of her….she should not lose her life right now.

However, because she is a euth request, we need to secure placement within 48 hours or the euthanasia request can be honored.  (euth request animals do not need to be placed on the euth list, so if you are considering her, please let us know now – SHE WILL NOT SHOW UP ON THE EUTHANASIA ALERT)

The owner told me she sometimes has a hard time getting up, and at times cant hold her bladder.

Chyna is a TRUE no concern.  She weighs 100lbs! (maybe that is why she cant get up at times)

Objet : A lire svp, trafic de chats RP

Hello,

bisous,

Great Dane being tortured, screams as they put hot chillis in raw meat!!
Huntington Park, Nr Downey!

I have just heard a terrible story of a Great Dane being tortured in a car wash, 8001 Casala Car Wash, on Pacific Blvd, corner of Cudehy, Walnut Park (comes up Huntington Park) nearest shelter Downey.

This dog cries and screams, as the workers feed him raw meat with hot chillis in it!  A neighbour heard Salvador say, "don't forget to put the hot chillis in the meat"!!

This poor dog is being used as a guard dog, but they're driving him crazy with the hot peppers, and NO WATER!  This is torture!!

The owner of the car wash is Salvador Casala, the workers Leo, Sergio, Victor.  I heard they had a Pitbull before, now the Pitbull has gone, could be training for fighting, hard to speculate, but that dog has gone!!!!!!!

Cheree and Marc..........Ginger knows about setting up fundables to help raise money for groups in need of help.    She can show you the ropes..........answer questions.  I know 3500.00 was raised for a cat sanctuary in SC (I think)  There are several others  like Best Friends, I've also researched the American Humane Society that offer help for shelters as well.   Will do some more surfing if you need me to?

Subject: 2 Old Dogs Need Help: Please read and cross-post

From Kathy at Pet Rescue: They are closing down after almost 30 years of service due to a lack in funds!!

We have seen Duke, Dustin, Duffy, Kurt and Millie, Freddie, Alexis and Diesel, all over age 8, most over age 10, find forever homes in the last years of their lives.

I have one more bonded pair that I need help with, and this will be the biggest challenge yet. My special pair have lived 11 years at the shelter, one having lost her leg to cancer 5 years ago. Please meet Ginger and Louie. They have lived together in their kennel for 11 years. Ginger is a 13 yo female mixed pittie who only has 3 legs and Louie is her beau, a beautiful German Shepherd mix who is also a senior at 12 yo. They are loving dogs that have always been picked over but never picked. They have seen hundreds of dogs come and go since 1998 when they first arrived at Pet Rescue Miami. They love each other, but not other dogs and their hearts would be broken if they were to be separated. You would think a dog with three legs would be at a disadvantage, but not Ginger. You should see her dig with one leg in the middle of the yard to find herself some cool dirt to lie down in. And Louie, what a big kisser and at age 12 he still relishes in a hearty game of fetch. They both love to walk on the leash and Ginger tries to keep up with Louie, but when she can't, she just lies down and rolls over for the belly rubs, which she knows are coming her way ! The two are quite a pair and there will be no end to the tears of joy if these two could live out their lives in an air conditioned, loving home, made just for the two of them. I know this is a tall order, but we have met many challenges. Please post their pix far and wide and hope we can work another miracle for Louie and Ginger.

I am available for emails at klcremer@aol.com
THANK YOU!

This is a different shelter with some needs as well.....thanks everyone, it is truley heartbreaking.....

===================================================================

Peanut Pet Shelter is the shelter in Playa Del Carmen (near Cancun, Mexico) we got to help out while we lived there. My family there still do. They need money to save all the tiny little puppies abandoned all over Playa and are giving away an all expenses (more than all expenses paid, it's amazing, read the prize description below - I've been to many of these places and this is an incredible deal) paid trip to Playa Del Carmen. All you have to do is buy one Peanut Pet Shelter fridge magnet and you're entered to win. So, you get a cool fridge magnet, you get to help some doggies in need AND you could win an all expenses paid trip to visit Mexico (and maybe stop by the shelter on a Saturday when they have their famous dog wash)! If you don't have a PayPal account, you can still checkout of PayPal with just a credit card. http://peanutpetshelter.org/store.html

If you can't afford it, please send along to other dog and animal lovers, as the shelter has about 80-90 dogs now, most of whom we've fallen in love with. Including one my Mom and I rescued who has been named Canook after his rescuers Literally every day there are more dogs that need help.

Here is my favorite, Trina. We call her Trina Tripod because she has a mangled hind leg, about which she does not care in the least and is the absolute happiest dog in the pack, which is why she is my favorite.

See the rest of their puppies here and thanks for passing it on!! http://peanutpetshelter.org/adoptiondogs.html

I just spoke to Cobb County Animal Control (in Georgia) http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/GA137.html and this senior boy is still alive.  HOWEVER, if any more dogs are brought in, he is the next to go. His euth date was postponed but the shelter is now full so he is on the "any moment" list.  Hardy is not on the Petfinder list for some reason but he is still alive.

Please crosspost for this sweet senior boy so he can be saved in time.If someone is able to commit to adopting/fostering/rescuing him, here are the hours of the shelter and contact info: (http://animalcontrol.cobbcountyga.gov/contact-us.htm)

need help to help October 08, 2009 2:11 PM

Hello, Club K9NorthWest (a Seattle based club) is about to make some trips to take in some of Camp Wolfgang’s burden. If anyone is in the Seattle area we are asking the communities for any assistance you can give. We need crates and are taking donations for fuel. We are also looking for fosters in this area. All foster’s expenses (in reason) will be reimbursed. Thank you for any help you can give, we are just trying to help these dogs have a chance.

Subject: ABUSED and SICK shar pei in NC

Warning: GRAPHIC PICTURES!

Please cross post!

The story:
My sister called me today while I was doing transport for the pregnant pitty. She had went to a yard sale in Kings Mtn, NC. The guy came out side and a dog came out with him that was skin and bones. The guy yelled at the dog and forced it back inside. When the dog turned around my sister noticed the back end of the dog was missing and appeared to have flies and bugs all over it. She called me....

I called animal control who did go there and the man denied it. He said the dog ran away. The officer searched his house and property but no dog was found.. After speaking to a neighbor I confirmed the dog has been there for the last year or two and has been roaming the neighborhood with this wound for at least 2 weeks. I decided to take matters into my own hands and went and explained to the gut that I was not with animal control and am an independent rescuer and that if he would sign the dog over to me I would get it taken care of. He said ok and went outside and got the dog out of a drain pipe. He put the dog in my car and signed the papers. I informed animal control of this and he said he would take care of it from there.

The owner, if that is what you call him, claims the dog chewed his tail off and he could not afford to take it to the vet. In my opinion the it looks like an axe was used and chopped his tail off to make a wound for a bait dog.

Now, I have the dog at my house. A vet friend of mine took a look at him for me today and she says that since it has been there for at least 2 weeks that I should not spend the large amounts of money at emergency vet and we started him on antibiotics and pain medications. I am taking him to my vet Monday to see what needs to be done. If anyone is interested in helping with medical bills please let me know and as soon as know what the treatment plan is I will direct you where to send money. As of right now it will be Conover Vet Hospital 103 Thornburg Dr SE. Conover, NC 828-465-5720. The Shar Pei rescue of Virgina has agreed to take the dog if they can find a home for it. Until then he is here at my house. I have named him Cezar!

Thank you so much!!!

I can transport this weekend if someone can save this baby.

Some beautiful animals here Sue.....the Sheps......my heart aches for those loyal dogs who don't understand what they've done to deserve to be left alone....unwanted.  I don't know how much more I can take of this.....this poor pit....who survived a fire.....still no one will take her.

I've had no response on any of these, and April is at the brink of being PTS by the Leland P.D. It's such a shame, because she is so sweet!! But, she has taught me one thing, I will never again attempt to rescue a Pit. Arrf has spent thousands of dollars treating her for her burns, her heartworms, and even spaying her, and we are still unable to find a rescue willing to help her!!
If she can't be rescued, none of Leland's Pits could be!

Linda
www.arrf-arrf.

April, the burned Pit mix who is on death row!!! It is going to be a crying shame if she has gone through all of her pain from the fire only to end up being PTS!!! Someone, please rescue April!

I've been trying for 8 months to place her. She has permanent disfigurement from the fire she was in. Arrf has treated her for heartworms and spayed her. She had to stay at the vet's for months because of her burns....had she gone back to the shelter, she could have gotten infected easily because of how nasty the shelter is.

April is a wonderful dog....no food-aggression problems and gets along with other dogs....not sure about cats!

Dogs unwanted!
Don't Judge a Dog by its Color

If you're like us, you probably chose your dog based on some cosmic connection you felt when he looked at you with those beautifully sad and soulful eyes. However many people use more mundane standards in selecting their life friend/pet. For example you may be surprised to learn that finding homes for black dogs, particularly larger ones, is a real problem for shelters. Black dogs are commonly the last to be adopted, if at all.

Destined for death in many shelters, they are passed up by adopters for reasons incomprehensible to the rest of us. Harmful superstitions, negative labels, exaggerated fear, all apply to the color black and thus a black dog. Even worse, they are often consigned to the pit of mediocrity with comments like "too common" or "too ordinary". It doesn't seem to matter much that these dogs are often highly sociable, in good health, and blessed with great temperaments.

The problem is the color of their coat, just like the more familiar species with continuing issues regarding skin color. There is actually an acronym used to refer to them, "BBD" or big black dog. The label is akin to a stamp on their foreheads with the word "doomed" written in bold letters.

These dogs are frequently passed over for their lighter colored counterparts by potential adopters and often end up being killed by the shelter. When interviewed, shelter workers constantly lament, "nobody wants a black-coated dog."

A little known reality is that shelters across the country are overflowing with black-coated dogs. "Please don't overlook our black dogs," shelters plead on their websites and bulletin boards along with pictures of the dogs, ready for adoption.

both males living in mud and feces. It is really bad.
  They are very
sweet see pics below. They look very GSD, but have
  floppy ears.  We
fixed their mother a purebred GSD below and their 2
  "inside dogs!!"
Please help us get them out of this terrible situation before he
changes his mind or sends them to AC which is what we
think happened
to the other 6. Thanks Alicia DDB SC adogfriend@gmail.com

"Milkshake" is a Black Lab pup just 5 months old. He is at the top of the euthanasia list. He can only get a reprieve there are faxes are waiting for any dogs at 8AM, otherwise this pup will be the first to be taken to the euthanasia room.
It would be nice if there were a fax just for him  --  he has been waiting for SOOO long (the longest of anybody there.)  All the space this puppy has is what we see; there are no outdoor runs here; dogs may get a brief walk outside if staff has time.

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG QUICKLY!!

It takes many emails to generate one fax to save one life!

This sweet girl is so emaciated that you can't even tell what she is but she is a 2 year old catahoula.  She was dropped off in front of a house in Hinesville, GA. and LEFT TO DIE. Animal control was called because she was so emaciated that she could not walk.  She just layed in the ditch.  A rescue in the area took her in and then we were contacted to help her.  She is at the vet now being treated.   We will post more information as we get it from the vet.  What we do know is that she has been terribly abused to be in such horrible shape.  She is just as sweet as can be and all she cares about doing is giving lots and lots of kisses.

The 3 sad seniors have a foster home waiting for them in North Carolina.

They will be pulled under S.T.I.C.K.S ORG./ DEBB

They now have a chance at family life in a home!  They will stay as long as they want to or need to as fosters of S.T.I.C.K.S---most likely as permanent fosters to live their life there as long as they are happy there!!!

Yes, they do have medical issues and we know for sure there will be bills and one is hw low positive and has a leg infection.

Two of them still sit all curled up in balls at animal control one is terrified and one shakes all the time. That is why they needed a FOSTER HOME and not another cage to life in.

If you can help with their elder care I am 501c3 and your donations are tax deductible and Greatly Appreciated!

Poor baby........ September 17, 2009 6:15 AM

Agnes came to us on a Pilots N Paws flight from Tennessee.  She is a 3 legged Black Lab mix girl. Chest x- rays show she has buck shot in her chest and a bullet in one of her remaining 3 legs.  Who know what this girl has been through in her life.  Now she has been diagnosed with intestinal adenocarcinoma ( cancer ).

PLEASE read this:  Agnes is such a loving - smart and good natured dog.  Her life up to now does not seem to have been good.  We do not know how she lost her leg and we can only guess how she felt laying somewhere and getting shot in the chest with buck shot or how it hurt to get shot in the leg with a bullet - having to hobble on her only other 2 legs.

ENOUGH!  I promised her she would not suffer any longer ... and we have a chance to help her.  The vet and the biopsy have indicated  SHE MAY HAVE A CHANCE IF WE REMOVE THE CANCER PART OF HER LOWER INTESTIN NEAR THE RECTUM.  BLOOD WORK AND CHEST X RAY LOOK GOOD.  IT'S NOT TOO LATE.

Saint Francis takes the souls that have no chance of adoption and little chance of survival without extensive medical help.   Please help us out by making a donation no matter how small.... PLEASE HELP AGNES.

The animals at this shelter are dumped by 4 counties and are euthanized every 5-7 days. If your rescue group is willing to take any of them or if you know someone who is, please contact me ASAP as their time is runing out. They have cats, puppies and dogs.

http://www.petfinder.com/shelterSearch/shelterSearch.cgi?offset=25&limit=25&zip=&status=&shelterid=FL762&tmpl=0&lat=&long=&preview=1&sort=

We are trying to schedule a flight thru "Pilots for Paws" to help save some of them. They would be transported from Chipley once someone commits to take them and then travel to Tallahassee to get on the plane.

Mogli, is a bull dog/Boston Terrier mix that is there that just wants a second chance at life, his info is:

Maggie Needs A Home

(Image: Curve)

Carter and Jennifer rescued Maggie who was tied to a tree without food or water. They would love to keep her but are prevented by a housing regulation. So they asked Best Friends to get the word out that Maggie is looking for a home.

Here is what Jennifer writes about Maggie:

Maggie is a sweet puppy who will thrive in a loving home. She is a 9 month old brindle pit bull puppy with beautiful amber eyes.  She has a loving, sweet temperament and loves to be held and have belly rubs.  She has had all her shots and has been spayed.

Maggie is a smart, playful, affectionate, energetic pup who gets along very well with people and other dogs.  She currently plays with our pack of 7 which is comprised of dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds.

I know Maggie is going to be a wonderful companion for someone.

If you can provide a wonderful forever home for Maggie please contact

Jennifer (828)884-4426

or email her at

Tennessee is GreenListed!!!

PLEASE HELP this badly abused Evidence dog!!!!

6/30 this sweet soul was dumped at the shelter with horrific injuries. Owner's claimed he was attacked by coyotes and they feared for their lives and that is why they did not try to help save their dog.

No coyote attack, his wounds were from chemical burns. Owner's were arrested and convicted of animal cruelty.

He is so sweetest love bug you could ever meet. Just flops on his back for belly rubs. So desperate for love and affection.

Over 6 weeks in ISO healing his painful burns and after all this boy has been through, he is now in danger and needs help!!!

GreenListed!!!
