I can not see any humor really, in the fate of the children and their families in these stories here at this Group. Now for ndn peoples we have used humor to make our history bearable. Was it funny at the time it took place? No way! So it would be nice to see smiles on these children's faces again, so they can heal.

You're Right LRD, Humor has it's place..But when you see pain and sadness in a child's face, ...There is no humor to be found there....Childhood is a magical time, or at least it should be...Children should be free of the burdens that so many are forced to deal with each day...All they should have to worry about is what game to play next or who's It , in a game of tag.... their days should not be filled with thoughts like...will I eat today..? Will I sleep peacefully tonight...? If just one child is robbed of the innocents of childhood..than that's one child to many...Humor does have a place after all...it belongs on children's lips and ,laughter in their eyes... if we look at one child , any child, anywhere in the world... and we don't see that..Than we as a species..have failed...And great accomplishments or feats we achieve..will never make up for letting one child know sadness.... O.

FACES OF THE INNOCENT

Putting a face on the victims of Burma's Ethinc Cleansing. These pictures also cronical the valiant efforts of the couragous Free Rangers of Burma. If it were not for their efforts, these children would already be dead. This is their reality.

Comments at Films in Burma Stories by Buffalohair March 21, 2008 8:50 AM

You know Judith, there are films out there that show the reality of the world that children are forced to live in.... Rabbit Proof Fence ( Australian film)...Water( India ) are just two that quickly come to mind.... I am sure there are dozens more... I have noticed that the major studios NEVER fund these types of films....Could it be that the films leave the viewers emotions raw..??? And they come face to face with the real world...??? A world that most people don't want to admit exists..?? Onedia P.

Margaret, the other day , Richard and I were doing the laundry..and we noticed that we had a full load of baby blankets and such... As we have no little ones in the house..you can guess that they were for our animals...How sad... that we treat our animals better than some children are treated.... Our animals go to sleep with a clean bed, full tummies, and they know they are safe...and loved...The same can't be said for millions of children around the world...Onedia P.

Stories from Dooplaya District, Karen State, Burma, March 2003, by Saw Takkaw

The girl, Naw M, unfortunately faces much more serious health challenges. At age 14, Naw M weighs only fifty pounds. Her small body and stunted growth even shocked the Thai hospital staff who deal with “border cases” regularly. She is anemic, malnourished, and has “chronic” malaria. At the time of writing this report, she was in the hospital and listed in serious condition. (Source: Free Burma Rangers, 2003)

Risks on the run abound. This young boy was wounded by a falling tree. Although the wound refuses to heal and the boy may end up losing his leg, his family will not attempt to get help. That itself is too risky. There is no medical care in Burma, and the trek to Thailand is life-threatening and in any case they will probably be refused entry. It has been reported that only people who have stepped on landmines are accepted in Thai hospitals. This boy is at risk of gangrene and is likely to need his to be amputated.
