Living in Glass Houses: The GOP's Own Man is Convicted of Voter Registration Fraud

By Project Vote

Cross-posted at Project Vote's Voting Matters Blog

By Michael McDunnah

The McCain-Palin campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) spent the better part of the fall screaming about alleged "voter registration fraud," and to this day the GOP and the right-wing media machine continue to raise the specter of voter registration shenanigans that are somehow undermining the integrity of American  elections. Now, after months of reckless invective and fruitless investigations, incontrovertible facts have been admitted in court, and someone has finally been convicted of voter registration fraud.

Fraud did take place in the 2008 election--conducted for, and paid for by, the Republican Party.

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday evening that Mark Anthony Jacoby, owner of a for-profit group called Young Political Majors (YPM), pled guilty to voter registration fraud in Los Angeles. Brad Freidman of the BradBlog has been keeping tabs on Jacoby for months, and wrote yesterday:

"Jacoby and Young Political Majors were hired by the California Republican Party to head up their voter registration efforts in the state. Jacoby had been arrested for Voter Registration Fraud last October, smack dab during the media's orgasmic heights of last year's phony GOP ACORN "Voter Fraud" hoax, even as Fox "News" (and the other news outlets who similarly fell for the scam) were going wall-to-wall with their unsupported insinuations about voter fraud by ACORN, Democrats and Obama."

Jacoby's YPM firm has been the go-to operation for GOP registration and petition drives in several states.  In 2008 the California Republican Party hired YPM to register tens of thousands of voters, paying $7-12 for every Californian they registered as a member of the GOP, according to the Los Angeles Times last fall. "Jacoby's arrest ...came after dozens of voters said they were duped into registering as Republicans by people employed by YPM. The voters said YPM workers tricked them by saying they were signing a petition to toughen penalties against child molesters."

According to the Times, "YPM has been accused of using bait-and-switch tactics across the country. Election officials and lawmakers have launched investigations into the activities of YPM workers in Florida and Massachusetts. In Arizona, the firm was recently a defendant in a civil rights lawsuit." (In what was perhaps an attempt to define "irony" for the press, the state GOP issued a statement last fall calling the charges against Jacoby "politically motivated.")

Jacoby pled guilty Tuesday to personally lying on his voter registration forms to register at phony addresses in order to collect petitions. (California law requires petitioners to be qualified voters.)  The Associated Press reports that, according to the District Attorney's Office, "two felony counts of perjury and one felony count of voter registration fraud were dismissed under the deal." Jacoby was sentenced to three-years probation and 30-days of community service.

Clearly, Jacoby's conviction and sentence amount to a slap on the wrist, and, if the widespread allegations of YPM's reprehensible tactics on behalf of the Republican Partyare true, further investigation and prosecution is needed.  If all the partisan pressure they've brought to bear to pursue baseless allegations of voter registration fraud elsewhere was anything more than political grandstanding, the GOP leaders

Electronic Vote Tampering Is a Real Flipper: Diebold Talks Garbage!

"It's Not a Clock Function! It Changes Votes!"

By Chip Created 2008-08-17 10:27

Velvet Revolution [1]'s Segment 5 in the Stephen Spoonamore's Diebold vote tampering expose series is brief, and loaded. Computer code wizard Stephen Spoonamore describes just one way that Americans' votes can be manipulated, and cast fraudulently for another candidate. Although a Diebold official claimed that a common programming fix called a patch was a "clock function," when Stephen examined the code, he found that it is actually a "comparator," one way that electronic voting can be compromised [2].

Installation of the "clock function" was important enough to be hand delivered, just two days before the election. Chambliss' son, Bo, is a registered lobbyist for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He is also a member of the Capitol Club [3], which "maintains a membership of only one hundred from the greater Washington, D.C. area and beyond." Their sponsors [4] include: Vineyard Vines, Anheuser-Busch, Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, National Beer Wholesalers Association, Red Bull, Rolls-Royce North America, Mercedes-Benz, Moet & Chandon, Buscadores Tequila, and Beretta.

In the 2002 election Stephen mentions, Max Cleland, an incumbent, decorated Vietnam veteran triple amputee, was "beaten" by Saxby Chambliss, after Chambliss used campaign ads pairing Cleland with Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona said [5] of one ad, "[I]t's worse than disgraceful, it's reprehensible;" Republican Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska said the ads were "beyond offensive to me."

More on election fraud....

Caucus Fraud Data, Analysis, Articles, Testimonials & Videos
INTRODUCTION

In two weeks the Democratic Party will formally nominate Barack Obama as its candidate for President of the United States.

It's the triumph of fraud.

I've spent the past two months immersed in data from the 2008 Democratic caucuses. After studying the procedures and results from all fourteen caucus states, interviewing dozens of witnesses, and reviewing hundreds of personal stories, my conclusion is that the Obama campaign willfully and intentionally defrauded the American public by systematically undermining the caucus process.

This site represents the fruits of my research. It's a work in progress, obviously, and also a central repository for a vast array of data: articles and blog posts from around the web, personal emails to me, interviews with witnesses, affidavits and testimonials, campaign communications, and videos of the caucuses themselves.

I have elected to make this information public. I hope that it sheds light on the caucus process and inspires reform or total elimination of the caucuses. I also hope it gives pause to those Democrats who believe that Barack Obama is the rightful nominee and that Hillary supporters should just "get over it." I have been a Democrat my entire life, but I will not support the Democratic Party at the cost of democracy.

Big business is making sure it wins the Presidency..link to article

http://www.alternet.org/democracy/94334/?clD=974077#974077c974077 Its entitled "Big Business is making sure it wins the Presidency" surprisingly..and is by Matt Taibbi.Basically the article illustrates how both big party candidates are being backed by the same big business backers (there are a lot of b's in this post for some reason),plus backers are getting around the rule that states that each financial backer, can only donate $2300.00.

The article also goes into detail re the lack of scrutiny re these activities, and re the voting procedures for the upcoming election.

My post Dead democrats in a dead democracy (under Bluegorilla),is in there, giving a big shout for No in November...but theres also some good posts as well,so don't worry.Cheers Rob x

The following from Mark:

"...please watch it and then ask yourself why the election fraud investigators featured in the film (Bob Fitrakis, the chubby one, Greg Palast, whose face I'm sure you've seen before, and Brad Friedman of bradblog), are STILL encouraging people to vote.

BLOGGED BY Brad Friedman ON 7/26/2008 6:35AM

So we learned last week that new information concerning Republican high-tech guru Mike Connell's alleged participation in computer-aided fraud from Florida to Ohio to the Swiftboaters to RNC headquarters to Congress has helped lead Ohio attorney Cliff Arnebeck to reignite a long-standing federal lawsuit concerning Ohio's 2004 Presidential Election.

We learned this week that Connell may have been threatened by Karl Rove should the GOP's "high IQ Forrest Gump" --- so described for his uncanny ability to be found "at the scene of every [GOP] crime" --- fail to "take the fall" for election fraud in Ohio, according to a letter sent by Arnebeck to AG Michael Mukasey asking for Connell's protection.

But who exactly is this exceptionally successful, yet largely-below-the-radar-until-now Republican operative?

The following clip (appx 6:45 mins) from the new documentary film, FREE FOR ALL! (downloadable in full, free for all at www.freeforall.tv) by filmmaker John Ennis, gives us a small taste of who Connell is, and how he fits into the big picture.

BRAD BLOG readers will likely recognize a few faces here. Please enjoy...

Better still, why not just start a discussion topic for each article and post the link instead of posting the article?

When discussions get long, Care2 slows down, so posting the articles would make the topics long to begin with.

If we just post the links, we could get discussions going without the wait.

I just posted Republic vs. Democracy as a discussion topic, and that reminded me what the problem was.

Discussion topic posts are limited in length, so I had to post it in three parts. Shares aren't length-limited.

If anyone has time to go to the links that I've given for my articles, and copy and paste each one as a share, we could then start a discussion topic for each of them.....unless somebody can figure out a better way?

George Orwell also said, "Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." He had it right all along. Mark, you are doing a great job at that! All of you are. I have been trained in research, so I can do some research for the library, and help figure out organization. Also plan to print and pass out flyers. Mark, do you have a thread here on articles you post? If it goes into OPED news, or Daily Kos I can recommend it. I am only sorry I have not been here more.

Are you following what's happening in Zimbabwe?

The opposition party is getting ready to boycott the election because it is rigged.

"“There is a huge avalanche of calls and pressure from (MDC) supporters across the country, especially in the rural areas, not to accept to be participants in this charade,” Nelson Chamisa, an MDC spokesman, told the Reuters news agency this morning.

If boycotting sham elections can expose the fraud in banana republics like Zimbabwe, it should be good enough to expose the fraud in Banana Republics like America®.

There are some excellent points on here, and Mark I strongly appreciate your position of keeping the whole project on track,we could all go over and over the same ground of snatched elections forever.
I do though, reckon it is a great idea to offer a detailed historical page or two on the site plus a library. I would say that the idea would be useful, for educational reasons, and also because of the lessons that can be learned from history. In the battle for hearts and minds,it seems vital to be able to give historical examples..we know that the other sides, will have their narratives which point to the fundamental good working of US democracy even in the recent past.
For example those spineless Democrats (who allowed Presidential candidate Bush to usurp President Gore etc etc ),were keener to show the integrity of the system, than to expose its rottenness .Our body of historical knowledge would be necessary to counter the idea that the system (with the odd flaw)has generally worked fine, and will continue to..generally speaking. There are certainly people who will be wavering on this topic, such detailed examples from recent history could win them over.
History also makes us aware, of the patterns of fraud, and the many possible tricks that can be pulled to undermine the will of the people, though this list is always getting longer as new methods to defraud are put into operation. We might be aware of much of this, but not everyone would be.Examples might enable people to develop more perspective.Knowing your enemy is a good thing.
The list of anti-democratic forces,in the modern US have been listed countless times, and the reason why I support this cause,is because the rottenness runs throughout the system..(and the same forces are doing the same across the world)..it won't disappear with an Obama victory,it is too deep for that, and as history shows, the dems are inextricably wound into the rottenness anyway.
A politician in the UK,one of the few with any guts and principle left Ken Livingstone named his biography "If voting changed anything, they'd abolish it".I think that wish to hold power and destroy any real threats to it is what we are up against.

We have a LOT of improvements to make, Carole, if we are going to fulfill our pledge.

If people don't vote, the government may have to throw out the voting machines and the central tabulators--that's what happened in Ireland. But we still won't have honest elections until we get rid of the crooked elections officials. Once they're in jail, we need to have citizen-owned transparent elections so that we know that our votes are counted. But we also need to get rid of the political parties. Who the hell are they to tell us what's on the table or off the table, or who's on the ballot or off the ballot? We need publicly funded elections so that people can get on the ballot through merit instead of only for money. And honest districting so that incombents don't have safe seats and can be voted out if they don't respresent us.

We need to abolish the Electoral College. We need to make the Supreme Court an elected, not an appointed position, with strict qualifications, not just any crony of a president, and in order to have government of the people, by the people, and for the people, we need to be able to overrule Supreme Court decisions (like Bush v. Gore 2000) by popular vote. We need to get rid of Congress and have proportional representation so that everyone has a voice. We need a new Constitution (not amendments to the old one) that gives us a democracy, not a republic, because a republic can too easily degenerate into a dictatorship or a fascist state when representatives seize power for themselves instead of representing their constituents.

There is so much that needs to be done, I could go on forever. But the first step is to reject fascism, reject war, reject rigged elections, and take back the power that is our inalienable right. And that's exactly what we're doing.

It's only scary as long as you think your vote "counts."

Thank God, we know better.

Now, what is our improvement?

I'd rather work toward creating than cremating.

Mark I just have a second to comment and then I am going to do some reading as you have suggested. I do agree that there is a group of  rich people that are running this show. I am here to learn as much as I can. I know it didn't matter how we voted the last 8 years. That is really quite upsetting and should be to all Americans. Get angry about it..but it more frightens me then angers me, because if we don't educate ourselves and others our country is going to continue to fall. I have not voted ever HA!!! and I an't going too. I registered last year  why because I listened to someone who I don't even go around anymore.  I will not vote stand down. I told my husband about the voting and the 9/11 but he doesn't believe it. I asked him to just sit and watch and listen, he's blind like a lot of other people and to a lot of others not. My Grandson 17 knows the truth about it. I'm not a Donkey or Elephant I'm neither.

Good for you, Jaylena. I will be looking forward to your comments after you have looked at some of the materials posted.

In the meantime, you say, "Every vote should be counted, every vote should matter," but you also say everyone should vote. Even if their vote is NOT counted? You will be a lion/lioness for the right to vote in rigged elections, to have your vote NOT counted, and you call that freedom?

What good does griping do? Bush was not elected, we have the right to gripe about it, but not the power to impeach him. The Constitution says that only Congress can impeach and that the people are forbidden to have that much power. Is that democracy?

Do you want government by the people (that's what democracy means) or government by Congress, the Supreme Court, and the White House?

I'll post another share for you to read. It is called "Republic vs. Democracy." We do not have either one. We have an oligarchy, a government by the ruling class. If you are a millionaire and you belong to the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderbergers, then you should vote for your fellow oligarchs, Obama or McCain. If you are one of us, the common people, you should not vote for them to rule us.

No I don't believe you missed anything at all Cebelica. I was stating that only because there are still many people out there that don't vote and they should be educated. They want to gripe but they don't vote. Every vote should be counted, every vote should matter. I just hope this election it will. I am still reading all of what Mark and Carole have posted. I am hear to learn also.  I certainly know I don't understand all of how elections work.  I do remember in my state the machines not working. I live in a small town with a University and some of these young people are very disillusioned by these leaders. It is time for a change for our country.

A quote from "Witness to a Crime" (referenced in Mark's subject Host Share):

"In the audited counties, three-fifths of the ballots punched for a liberal black woman for Chief Justice, and half of the ballots punched in favor of gay marriage, were also punched for Bush.  Thousands of ballots in heavily Democratic precincts were pre-punched for third-party candidates.  Voting machines were rigged, tabulators were rigged, ballot boxes were stuffed, ballots were altered, ballots were sorted according to candidate, and ballots were destroyed."

I highly recommend that members take some time to look at the materials Mark has been kind enough to point us to.

I watched this and it was all rigged. Its going to happen again because people believe in the voting system.. To bad they don't go back to the old fashion way of voting this is what needed. I know it is not conected to USA, but want to ask for your oppinion  about this, perhaps some conclusion can be helpfull.

Here, while former Yugoslavia was falling apart, in Bosnia were elections.

So, results of elections 1991, were  that national parties (all 3) won more than 90% of votes (which was clear sign we are entering war!).

But, in personal talks nobody admited  that gave a vote to national party, at least nobody admitted to me!

Was this election product of fear, or was fraud, or was a result of lack of infromation and education, I do not know even today.

And even after so much misery and after 17 years, nothing much changed!

Though have no access to all data and soursec, i have some  image about what was happening, can imagine machine working beside, but also, am afarid sometimes not to fall in a  trap named "beleiving in conspiracy".

To be honest, sometimes am so confused by huge ammount of informations that do not know what to think..

But , is something am almost sure about. And that is that international lobies of different kinds, sometimes have great impact in something what should be inner decision of state and its citizens.

But, as I said to Carol, I believe in american people and things will trun in better ways!

This much, now am going to read and learn. Thanks again!

Melita, at the bottom of the topics is a host share titled "Consensual Political Intercourse." It is important that everyone read it and also read some of the source material listed after it. The situation in the countries you know may be different from the situation here.

Although the conservatives have made a big fuss about it, introduced new laws, tried to get prosecutions, etc., we have only one (1) documented case of voter fraud in the U.S. -- conservative TV commentator and hatemonger Ann Coulter used two different addresses to register to vote. Because she is a conservative, she was not prosecuted, even though many federal prosecutors were illegally fired for failing to prosecute cases where there was no evidence of fraud. No other cases have been found despite millions of dollars spent looking for them. We DO have thousands of documented cases of ELECTION FRAUD, when the machines or the elections officials did not count the votes, counted them for the wrong candidates, or produced more votes than voters.

We have had not one but TWO stolen presidential elections in the U.S. That led to eight years of wars of aggression in which millions of innocent people have been killed and trillions of dollars spent on those wars.

If there was ANY chance that the 2008 election would not be stolen, I would advise people to vote. There is NO chance that it will not be stolen. Nothing has changed since 2000 and 2004. We have the same political parties, the same elections laws, the same elections officials and the same voting machines.

Please read the article and look at the source documents.

The Presidential race in the U.S. is between one candidate committed to war and another candidate committed to more war. If you want peace, you are told to vote for the candidate committed to war instead of the candidate committed to more war. That was what we did in 2000 and 2004, both times the less evil candidate won and the election was stolen and given to the more evil candidate. If your goal is peace, and you vote for war, people are going to think you are crazy. But there is no peace candidate with any chance of winning whatsoever. So if you vote for peace, war wins.

What we can and will do, is NOT vote. Then nobody can claim that we voted for war.

There is not only a chance that the election will be stolen, there is NO chance that it will not be. Some polls show that 80% of Americans oppose the wars. They have no chance in this election of voting for peace--the only choices are war and more war. You cannot work for peace by voting in an election that is rigged so that only war can win the election. If your goal is real peace, why would you urge people to vote for war or to vote in a rigged election where only war can win? I don't understand how you can want peace but encourage people to vote for war. I don't want war, I will not vote for war, and I urge everyone who wants peace not to vote in rigged elections where only war can win.

Please read the host share and look at the source material. Thank you for being here and for contributing to the discussion. I welcome your comments after you have looked at the facts.

Dear friends

Will write few lines here, not as an expert, which I an not anyway), but as an ordinary person, human being, and as citizen who take part in social life, and perhaps am also manipulated, and am not even aware of it, but am trying to do my best not to be.

I am not so familiar with elections in USA, but i am afraid that voting pattern is pretty much the same all over the world, and in all countries.

System  seem to provide people all rights and we all have constitutional right to vote and express our opinion.

So, according democratical rules, election reslut shoul show a will of majority!

I have always wondered about few things:

1. About hidden political (financial) machine behind public  appearance

Here I think about abbusing and manipulating people , for i was withess here how election can be framed (dead people on lists, people paid to vote for certain party, lobies, false identities at voting list, corrupted commisions who count voices and so on, and so on)

2. The other thing I was always thinking of is the profile of people who vote (and again am speaking from the point of my experience here and I vote in 2 coutries, for have double citizenship)

I think the second issue I mentioned is more important.

It is urgent need to ensure true information to voters and to increase their level of education and understanding. For, so many people have right to vote, and truly they do not know how to use this right, because of many reasons  (and capital reason is  is insufficient education ), so can be  easily manipulated

and misslead.

Voting isn not right only, it should be our duty and responsibility, and responsibility include also deep considering who will we give our vote to.

Also, here people were invited to boycot elections, because of irregularity during elections.

I have always strongly dissagreed with it.

For, in this way, when we do not vote, we give up and give winn to those who we disagree.

And right these people who abuse elections and manipulate people, because are very motivated for many reasons,  are  very disciplined and take part in elections regularly.

I would support boycot and claim-DONT VOTE, only in case when there would be some chances that elections could fail and should be repeated.

So far, the best way is education of people, and infroming them as much as possible, and I think, this gropu here could be great contribution to this.

For after all, the true majority of people, not only in USA, but all over the world,  has commons goal-and that is real peace, work and bread for everybody and safety in everyday living  where we can try to reach our personal  happiness.

Thank you

As such, I feel it is important to have a "library," chronicling the corruption of the voting process.

Please feel free to educate yourselves by perusing, it and educate others by contributing to it.

I have, of course, known about caging for years, as has everyone involved with election reform and election integrity. We're also familiar with literally HUNDREDS of other ways of rigging elections for which there is tangible, documented evidence. Retired NASA physicist, Dr. David Griscom and a friend of his, for example, found a very highly sophisticated method of rigging elections in New Mexico and they published their findings. Most of the sources I listed as resources for my "Consensual Political Intercourse" article also have links to other sources. It has become a large industry in the years since 2000 and the amount of documented evidence already available is staggering.

The problem is that few people bother to look at the evidence, prosecutors usually won't indict public officisals for rigging elections , courts won't convict them, Congress alone has the ability to impeach and they won't no matter how much evidence there is. It is good to have, important to know, but useless in attempting to bring about change, so it is only a distraction in this group.

If you'd like, you could add "educational outreach" in the Jobs to be Done topic, but there are many large election integrity groups who have been devoted to that for years. It is only thanks to them that documented evidence is no longer dismissed as a conspiracy theory by most people.

I think we need to stop playing catch-up and reacting to stolen elections and concentrate our energies on PREVENTING the next one. We need to discredit it by not voting in it and to demonstrate that this government and its rigged elections are illegitimate. Knowing that past elections have been stolen and that the November election will be stolen, doesn't  help anyone if we allow yet another election to be stolen. We need to be in the crime PREVENTION business and leave the criminal investigation and prosecution to others, particularly since it is a waste of time in a corrupt system and many more millions of people will die unless we act to establish a true democracy and stop delegating our power to unaccountable warmongers.

I think you'll find it interesting, Mark.  They have tangible evidence of "caging."

And, yeah, I have to remind myself as well that a good part of enlisting people for this effort is educational, so I understand.

Thanks for your consideration!

I'd plumb forgotten that there are still people who aren't fully conversant with the facts of the stolen elections. I'll try to find time to watch that video and see if it is appropriate to add the the sources I have listed after my "Consensual Political Intercourse" article. Thanks, *C*.

But I think we should keep this group for work on the Put the No back in November campaign.

If you say so, but the video features Greg Palast discussing in detail 2004 election fraud.

The "Indict Karl Rove" is off-topic.

The Democrats voted for the Military Commissions Act to exempt Bush, Cheney, Rove, and themselves from international law, and in the U.S. all he has to do is appeal to the Supreme Court to have a lower  U.S. court's guilty verdict overturned, or Bush can pardon him.

Working within the system is not appropriate for this topic.
