What Made a Believer out of Pope

Monday July 20, 2009
Fox News recently ran an excellent article on UFO investigator Nick Pope. Pope worked in the British Mod's UFO section for a number of years, and during that time, he morphed from a UFO skeptic to a believer.

He says that he doesn't exactly have the "smoking gun," but he does cite several cases that prove to him that UFOs do exist.

A cigar-shaped unknown that passed extremely close to an airliner.

A USAF pilot got close enough to fire on a UFO, and almost did.

A photograph of a UFO that has worried British officials.

He also states that public pressure for the release of more UFO files is overwhelming, and believes that more and more countries will come clean on what they know about UFOs.

Check out the article at Ex-UFO Researcher Details British Government X-Files. Would the cases listed above wet your whistle for more info? It sure did mine.

Let's Mine Alien Technology

Monday July 6, 2009
Here is a great report written by a man whom I know, and talk to now and then, researcher Stephen Bassett. Steve is an excellent writer, and ardent UFO researcher. One of his articles has been picked up by our parent company, the New York Times.

Steve has stated without reservation that our government has "extraterrestrial vehicles" in their possession. He asserts that reverse engineering the alien technology would be extremely helpful in creating a new energy source.

He goes a step forward by saying this technology could totally replace oil as an energy source. Check out his article at A Climate Solution That's out of This World, and be sure to give any comments you have on this subject.

UFO Sighting Reports

Thursday July 2, 2009
Welcome to this week's session of UFO sighting reports. This time, we have three reports from the US, and one from Brazil. First, we go to Arizona, where three people saw high flying unknowns. Then from South Carolina comes a report of flashing objects which flew in a square formation.

From Texas, we read about a man who, while driving down the road, saw a green, fireball-like object. And lastly, from Brazil, a man reports the sighting of a metallic, ball-like object high above a plane.

Be sure to see the full details of these reports at UFO Sighting Reports, 07-02-09, and don't forget to keep your eyes on the skies. Please comment as you wish.

UFO sighting sparks worldwide interest

A MIDLAND UFO sighting has sparked worldwide speculation about the existence of aliens after an amateur pilot spotted six pairs of mysterious lights on Christmas Eve.

Dad-of-two, Andrew Freke, an amateur pilot for more than 15 years, spotted the bright orange lights flying above his Solihull home while he was smoking a cigarette at about 11pm on Christmas Eve.

At first he believed it was simply an aeroplane from nearby Birmingham Airport but he quickly dismissed the idea because the three pairs of lights were silently flying in a zig-zag pattern at about 150 miles-per-hour.

Officials from nearby Birmingham Airport confirmed they had no aircraft matching the description in the area on Christmas Eve.

After Mr Freke’s story appeared in the Birmingham Mail last week, people from as far afield as San Francisco and Germany have reported having the same close encounter.

Alexandra Schädlich, from Reichenbach, Saxonia, Germany, said: “My family and I saw the same thing. We saw it at 10pm, 12.30am and 2pm in Saxonia.

“At 12.30am we counted eight balls on the night sky. They changed direction and one also waited for the others on the sky.”

American UFO spotter, Brent Hoff, added: “My girlfriend and I had a very similar, but substantially longer and closer experience several years ago in San Francisco.

“I’d be interested in talking to Mr Freke about it.”

But the main sightings all seem to be clustered in the Midlands.

Michael Trigg, aged 23, from Sutton Coldfield, spotted a bright orange light zig zag in the sky for a minute shortly after New Year’s Eve fireworks and two readers reported four orange lights and a bizarre rotating circular object hovering over their Shirley homes at 9pm on Christmas Day.

Alan Clarke, from Nuneaton, also spotted a series of orange globes flying over his local shops at 5pm on January 2 and the Civil Aviation Authority are now investigating.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: “The MOD examines reports solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity.

“Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, there is no attempt to identify the nature of each sighting or report.”

Obama and UFOs

A group called the Extraterrestrial Phenomena Political Action Committee is urging President-elect Barack Obama to "end the six-decade truth embargo" on UFOs. Specifically, the group wants Obama to "demand a full briefing" from the military and intelligence agencies on what they know about extraterrestrial phenomena. They want him to press for congressional hearings. They want him to "formally acknowledge the extraterrestrial presence." And make available for development the technologies that aliens have brought to Earth.

They want him to open thousands of pages of documents, and who knows, maybe even divulge the plot of "Battlestar Galactica's" final season before it airs this winter.

We just have one thing to say to the incoming president: Don't do it!

Please don't open all those glorious government files full of UFO reports and alleged alien abductions and other mysterious lights twinkling just above the horizon and moving away at speeds that could not possibly be an airplane—or a weather balloon!

Sure, we'd like to know if and when the aliens arrived here. We'd like to know why—with technology (and weapons?) so clearly advanced beyond anything we have—they are skulking around.

But we urge the president to resist the UFOlogists' demands because . . . well, because what if there's no smoking ray gun in those files? What if all those UFO conspiracy theorists are wrong? What if the whole alien invasion plot is as flimsy as a Klingon's anger control?

Life would be so much bleaker without the possibility that aliens are here on Earth, or at least in the general cosmic vicinity. That tantalizing hope has fueled so many magnificent books, television shows, movies—and imaginations.

Many of our top scientists today are sci-fi geeks. From what we've read, the first spark of their future career paths came when they encountered classics like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "Star Wars" or "Star Trek." Or when they read masters of science fiction such as Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury or Arthur C. Clarke.

Obama already has a long enough to-do list. We doubt that he has time to plow through all the files on Area 51. Let's keep it that way.

The U.S. government hasn't managed to keep many important secrets. Let's hope one of them continues to be the truth about aliens on Earth.

This relates to the well-known incident of an alleged alien encounter at Rendlesham Forest, dubbed "Britain's Roswell" after the supposed contact made with aliens at Roswell in the United States.

Several drawings are visible in the files from those keen to demonstrate what they had seen.

One such sketch was made by Metropolitan Police officers, who were called out to a house in Stanmore in the London Borough of Harrow on 26 April, 1984.

Three officers spent an hour observing the object in the sky, which "moved erratically from side to side, up and down and to and fro, not venturing far from the original position".

One of the Pcs, who saw the object through binoculars, described it as "circular in the middle with what appeared to be a dome on top and underneath" with different coloured lights.

Common explanations

Visitors to the National Archives site will also find a videocast from Nick Pope, a British UFO specialist.

Mr Pope picked out one incident where a UFO was spotted over central London.

A sketch of a UFO, made by a Metropolitan Police officer

"This is a very interesting illustration that, actually, UFOs are seen in built-up areas. People have this idea they're seen in desolate, rural places.

"There's a sighting actually on Waterloo bridge, when a number of witnesses actually stopped to look at this UFO that was seen over the Thames."

Mr Pope said the most common explanation for UFOs were aircraft lights, bright stars and planets, satellites, meteors, or airships.

A detailed briefing is available within the files, which was prepared by the MoD for Lord Strabolgi, then government chief whip, for a debate on UFOs in the House of Lords in January 1979.

The briefing said that "there is nothing to indicate that UFOlogy is anything but claptrap" and that the idea of an "inter-governmental conspiracy of silence" was "the most astonishing and the most flattering claim of all".

The briefing goes on to say: "Let me assure this House that Her Majesty's government has never been approached by people from outer space."

Also available on the website is a podcast from Dr David Clarke, an expert in UFO history, discussing the files.

Dr Clarke, who is a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, told the BBC's Radio 4 Today programme that conspiracy theories about aliens are "very difficult to disprove".

He said: "I doubt the disclosure of these files will convince those who believe there is an official cover-up.

"Inevitably, some have already dismissed this release as a whitewash. For them the 'truth' still remains out there, hidden no doubt in more above top secret files hidden somewhere else."

Files released on UFO sightings
A sketch of a UFO [Pic: National Archives]
This is how one person described the UFO they had seen

Secret files on UFO sightings have been made available for the first time by the Ministry of Defence.

The documents, which can be downloaded from the National Archives website, cover the period from 1978 to 1987.

They include accounts of strange lights in the sky and unexplained objects being spotted by the public, armed forces and police officers.

One man explained in great detail his "physical and psychic contact" with green aliens since he was a child.

The writer said that one of them, called Algar, was killed in 1981 by another race of beings as he was about to make contact with the UK government.

The letter's author said he visited their bases in the Wirral and Cheshire, while his wife reported seeing a UFO shot down over Wallasey on Merseyside.

The eight released files are part of almost 200 files set to be made available over the next four years.

These documents will be available to download for free for the first month.

A spokesman for the National Archives said they were now becoming available after several requests made under the Freedom of Information Act, and also because of a "proactive move by the Ministry of Defence for an open and transparent government".

Much of the previously classified paperwork is made up of correspondence from the public sent to government officials, such as the MoD and then-prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

Another document reveals the experiences of a 78-year-old man who alleged that he met an alien beside Basingstoke Canal in Aldershot, Hampshire in 1983.

He said he went on board the craft, giving a detailed explanation of it, before being quizzed by the aliens about his age.

He was then told: "You can go. You are too old and too infirm for our purpose."

'Britain's Roswell'

Another letter, from the director of a group called the Wigan Ariel Phenomena Investigation Team, asks the MoD if it had a code of practice for dealing with an alien invasion.

A further document reveals how, on 21 February 1982, a group of customers and staff at a Tunbridge Wells pub reported an unknown object with green and red flashing lights - seen heading in the direction of Gatwick airport.

There are some reports from more official sources. The United States Air Force filed a report about two USAF policemen who saw "unusual lights outside the back gate at RAF Woodbridge" in Suffolk in December 1980.

Airliner had near miss with UFO

A passenger jet bound for Heathrow Airport had a near miss with a UFO, Ministry of Defence files reveal.

The captain of the Alitalia airliner shouted "Look out" to his co-pilot at the sight of a brown missile-shaped object shooting past them overhead.

Civil Aviation Authority and military investigations could not explain the 1991 incident near Lydd in Kent.

The unsolved close encounter features in UFO-related military documents made available by the National Archives.

After ruling out the object flying past the Alitalia jet being a missile, weather balloon or space rocket, the MoD closed the inquiry.

Nineteen files covering sightings between 1986 and 1992 are being made available online.

Almost 200 such files will be made available by the MoD over the next four years.

The current batch also includes a US Air Force pilot's account of being ordered to shoot down a UFO that appeared on his radar while he flew over East Anglia.

There is also an MoD request that army and navy helicopters not take photographs of crop circles, because of concerns about undermining the official line that the military did not investigate unexplained phenomena.

And the files also contain a letter from a woman claiming to be from the Sirius system who said her spacecraft - also containing two "Spectrans" with "Mr Spock ears" - crashed in Britain during World War II.

UFO expert and journalism lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, Dr David Clarke, said the documents would shed new light on relatively little-known sightings.

He said some conspiracy theorists would already have decided that the release of the papers was a "whitewash".

He added: "Because the subject is bedevilled by charlatans and lunatics, it is career suicide to have your name associated with UFOs, which is a real pity.

"The National Archives are doing a fantastic job here. Everyone brings their own interpretation.

"Now you can look at the actual primary material - the stuff coming into the MoD every day - and make your own mind up."

Published Date: 15 October 2008
Wednesday, 5.30pm - TWO UFOs have been seen in the Grantham area in recent weeks after a lengthy period of no sightings.
Ken Charlton spotted a mysterious glowing object in the Grantham area on Monday night.

The retired RAF aircraft technician saw an object about the size of a car between 1,000 and 2,000 feet up.

It was moving from east to west at around 250mph and was flame yellow with a translucent dome on top.

The object moved silently.

Ken said: "First impression was of a small aircraft on fire, but it kept the same altitude and speed until out of sight for some four to five minutes.

"I was an aircraft technician with the RAF for 24 years and have never seen anything like it."

Retired St Wulfram's Church verger Brian Buttery spotted another mysterious object at the end of September.

He spotted the object while walking in Belton Avenue at about 9pm on Saturday, September 27.

He said: "It was oval in shape, orange in colour and moving approximately N to S. I lost sight of it as I got nearer to my bungalow as the roof obstructed my sight. I went to the rear of the bungalow and it had disappeared.

"I went inside and to the back door and on looking out saw the the same light in the same place as I had first seen it. It was on the same course and as it passed it started to fade and I could only see bits of it as it went further to the south.

"I thought that this one was the same as the first and had circled round but when I looked again to the north another one came into view. In all there were five of them, all on he same course and a regular intervals.

"It was very difficult to judge the height of them but they gave the impression of having a light on them like a hot air balloon.

"There was no sound at all from any of the objects."

"Like wildfires in the Australian outback, rumors of an upcoming mass televised UFO sighting over American skies are taking the Internet by storm.

Blossom Goodchild, an Aussie actress and author, has the international Ufology community on its ear with channeled information concerning the eminent appearance of a massive extraterrestrial spacecraft for October 14th, 2008. Calling themselves 'The Federation of Light', these Beings from another world have stated to Goodchild that they intend not only to make themselves known, but also to remain more or less in place for a full 72 hour period, thereby providing the media with ample opportunity to once and for all capture on film evidence that will silence the skeptics and debunkers forever. The predicted rendezvous point? Alabama."

Thousands of previously illegible manuscripts containing work by some of the greats of classical literature are being read for the first time using technology which experts believe will unlock the secrets of the ancient world.

Among treasures already discovered by a team from Oxford University are previously unseen writings by classical giants including Sophocles, Euripides and Hesiod. Invisible under ordinary light, the faded ink comes clearly into view when placed under infra-red light, using techniques developed from satellite imaging.

The Oxford documents form part of the great papyrus hoard salvaged from an ancient rubbish dump in the Graeco-Egyptian town of Oxyrhynchus more than a century ago. The thousands of remaining documents, which will be analysed over the next decade, are expected to include works by Ovid and Aeschylus, plus a series of Christian gospels which have been lost for up to 2,000 years.

01-Oct-2008, Parallel Lougheed Hwy, Pitt Meadows, BC: (06:12 am)

My boss and i were going to work this a.m. 6:12 and as we headed toward Coquitlam it was completely dark and clear, i noticed what i thought was a plane about 1500 feet up, it has 2 wing lights solid white lights, a single strobing orange light in the center and 2 bright blue random strobing lights under the front. at first i thought it was a plane as we approached but could not recognize the lights as regular aviation lights, orange light look very strange especially its intensity. i kept a clear sight on it, realizing it wasn't moving, then slowly it inched east bound forward,....we were in bumper to bumper traffic creeping slowly so i was able to enjoy watching it. i told my boss to look at it, he thought it was a plane too but it didn't move, then slowly moved forward east bound. it was about 1 block north of the hwy, parallel, he then thought helicopter, but i opened my window and could hear any noise. why would a chopper be hovering in the dark low just off the Lougheed?,...we see the RCMP chopper all the time, it has a very distinct turbine sound easily heard day or night. this was very strange, silent and the lights were not regular pattern. i hope some else lets you know, without a clear body shape its lights looked like it had wings yet hovered, it was probably the size of a small private jet. anyone in traffic this a.m could easily of watched it, the duration was about 8-9 minutes,....it was so different and clear with very bright lights it stood out as very different.

Serbian Radio Stations have been flooded by calls from the town of Zenta-where a cluster of cars leaving the town westward have been halted on the road as two craft identical one to the other land on the road-one was hazy completely and blue light covered it, the other was more clear and cone shape with flat top.

One hovered and a being described as grey-green four foot with large black eyes a small mouth and no ears?? floated to earth from a mere height of one meter then quickly returned to the craft and both sped off.
Witnesses included two truck drivers, a town GP, two nurses, and other labourers.
The authorities came to the scene and dispersed the crowd that gathered.

Local police are claiming what was seen was a set of party balloons-however all witnesses say this is out of the question-the crafts were sophisticated, humming, glowing-and shot off upwards. the alien life-like and moving as a human.

One witness Alexander Petrovic says " this was the strangest thing I ever saw and cannot accept it was a balloon."
