Thanks
for the invite, Donna! We (my husband and I) have been dealing with
the homeless for years, either through the Truckers Christian Chapel
Ministries or with the Union Gospel Mission. I'm currently working a
couple of days a week at the UGM in Salem, OR. It's been really
interesting -- whole lot of fun watching new people come to Christ.
Let's invite more people and get some good information shared!
hello
and thanks for invite My self and hub have been working with the
homeless for many years and have been very blessed for that.Your site
looks great, hope to get to no all of you here Jo Ann host of people for
justice.
Helping the homeless as a sector requires a capacity to view the
situation of homelessness from the perspective of the homeless. As this
is easier said than done, the NGO where I work conducts a training
program for young professionals to go through a 6-month on-the-job
training in community organizing. The spirit of the on-the-job training
curriculum is to train young potential community organizers through
helping urban poor communities help themselves. The training is
conducted by a training team whose members are veteran community
organizers. The trainees live in identified urban poor communities and
help people identify their priority poverty issue. People learn to
tackle issues from the simplest ones to the more complex ones. The
trainees, with the support of veteran community organizers help people
develop and resolve their identified issues. Examples of simple issues
are: absence of street lights, absence of potable water, absence of a
drainage system, absence of a day care center and so forth. Having
tackled these issues, the people are prepared to address eviction
threats from the government or from private landowners. Recently, more
than 5,000 families have been notified that they will have to vacate
the place where they live in 2 weeks and the eviction notice does not
provide options. The people, because they have organized themselves
through small issues in previous years and therefore have experienced
spreading their wings have been prepared by experience to respond to
the eviction threat through dialogues with the local government, the
legislative branch of the national government, church leaders and other
stakeholders. The themes of the dialogues are really about asking
government to follow what are provided for in the Urban Development and
Housing Act. Even with a law that is supposed to protect the rights of
the homeless, without an organized assertiveness, the poor will end up
marginalized and alienated. Sometimes, mainstream society abdicates its
duty to be in solidarity with the marginalized. The work of the NGO
where I have been a member for more than two decades now is to make the
poor retrieve the rights that they thought have been lost to
powerlessness and hopelessness and help organized urban poor groups
link up with supportive stakeholders or build potential supportive
individuals, institutions and organizations so that the poors voice or
agenda are better heard and responded to positively by the government.
This is my contribution in helping the homeless in my country.

Then Joshua said to the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow
the LORD will do wonders among you."
God wants to do incredible things in your life... even things you might
consider impossible. Today's verse is proof of this!
The problem with a lot of believers these days is that most of us like
to play it safe. We like living life in our little comfort zones. But
being a believer in Jesus Christ is not always about playing it safe!
Sometimes, oftentimes, God calls us to step outside of our comfort zone
to follow Him. And when you take that leap, what wonderful things He
can do in and through you!
Now, you may think it's impossible that God could do something amazing
through you. But trust me on this. All you have to do is take that
first step of faith. God will never ask you to do anything that He
won't give you the strength to do. He will make a path for you. He will
direct your steps and blaze a trail before you!
Today, I want to challenge you to be spiritually, emotionally, and
physically ready for the adventures God wants to take you on in your
life. Take time to read and study His Word, talk to Him through prayer,
and bottom line... seek after Him!
And when you're facing what seems impossible, remember what it says in
Matthew 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things will be added to you."
God bless
Pastor Fred

As Charlotte-Mecklenburg's population grows each year and our relative
supply of affordable housing decreases, we continue to see the numbers
of homeless families and individuals swell in our community. Over 5,000
people are homeless in Mecklenburg County on any given night and tens
of thousands annually That total includes people who are living on the
streets, staying in shelters and with friends and family, or living in
transitional or permanent supportive housing. Nearly half are families;
more than a third are children. "Street homelessness" is the image
commonly presented to portray homelessness, yet less than 10 percent of
the 5,000 homeless people in our region regularly live on the streets.
Almost half of all homeless adults are employed. Why not invest this
kind of money into day shelters for the homeless. You could provide
lifeskills classes to these people. You could provide GED classes, and
work training. this would help them transition from a life of nothing
into a life of something more. Finally people would be able to get back
on their feet and contribute back to society. Do you really believe
that people who are homeless chose to be this way? It happens because
life happens, not because this is the way they choose to live. Please
think about the future of Charlotte and the surrounding areas. Think
about the future of our youth. Over 2,000 children in our area are
homeless. A primary cause of homelessness in the Charlotte -
Mecklenburg area is the shortage in the supply of affordable homes. A
worker earning minimum wage no longer has sufficient income to afford a
safe and decent apartment. And with regional fair market rents
averaging more than $650 a month for a two-bedroom apartment, many
working families are struggling to find homes within financial reach.
With your help, we can ask the Mayor to help.

hello
Jesus came into this world to help us all and if we have the Love of
God in our hearts, we can not help but feel the pain of others and when
we see the homeless and the lost we have to let the love of God shine
thru us and try and feel how they are feeling and do what we can to
make there life just a little bit better let them know Jesus loves them
and wants to change there life.most people will never know how it feels
to sleep under a roadway at night,to be cold and hungry or just
alone,we can bring just a little light into there hard world every time
we open up our hearts and give to them Jo Ann..
