introduction May 02, 2009 3:12 AM

I DO like hemp (the good cousin) as it grows quickly on low fertile land. I have some bags made of hemp and eat it as part of my effort to eat healthy diet. I do NOT like marijuana (naughty boys in my area are ruining themselves with it and the safety of the area). Being from the Netherlands (but now leaving elsewhere) and the association people have with the hemp leaf, it makes me laugh when people see me (a hijabi Muslim) in the shop paying from a wallet with the hemp leaf... as if I'd be smoking pot! In peace, globalnomad

anonymous Hello! March 13, 2009 9:14 AM

Happy to see this group! I use hemp from Manitoba in my 'hemp oil soap & shampoo bar' and knitted washcloths (sold in my shop, Smallbones), and nuts & oil in my own food. A new industrial hemp operation is set to open here this year (in southeastern Ontario, Canada). Unfortunately, it's not making the things I use, but will be making things for industrial use -- a great step and the first in this part of the country. My interest grew substantially after reading "The Emperor Wears No Clothes."

Hopeful Hempsters Invitation February 02, 2009 4:50 PM

Thanks for the opportunity to get something done.  I've recently seen some specials on Discovery and History channels that deal with the evolution of anti-pot attitudes and legislation in the U.S.   I know I've still got one TiVo'd and could let you know the source if You want.

I have just invited a lot of new members to this group, in a group mailing. My premise is that, with the new and more intelligent Administration of President Obama, we have a far better chance of de-criminalizing, legalizing, regulating, or whatever sensible approach will stop the horrendous persecution of people using a natural plant for whatever purpose! Here is in part what I sent out to people:

With this new Obama Administration, which has promised to respect REAL science, and not the phoney corporation-toadying pseudo-"scientists" of the Bushco mis-Administration, there is NOW A REAL REASON TO BE HOPEFUL!rnrnBut we are not waiting passively for results! President Obama needs US to spread the word, and counter-act the massive dis-information of the previous regimes; that means you & me. So that the President, and Congress, will have FULL PUBLIC SUPPORT TO DO THE RIGHT THING.rnrnPresident Obama made several promises regarding "ending the wasteful Drug Wars", during his campaign; but, IT WON'T HURT TO NUDGE HIM ALONG A BIT. So much of the present Economic Crisis could be solved, if American farmers were only allowed to grow Hemp, as their ancestors did in this country, and as is being done in countries all over the world today. Hemp is truly a Wonder Plant that grows fast, grows anywhere, and has a myriad of uses -- if you don't know of them already, you will learn when you join this group! We emphasize Industrial Hemp in this group, that can't get you high -- but, we are for ENDING THE DRUG WARS AND DE-CRIMINALIZING MARIJUANA/CANNABIS when used in a responsible manner by adults. Check out our group; if you like it please also invite your friends. The stronger we are, the sooner we will see desirable results in society!

As Serge did -- Yay, Serge! -- do invite your friends to join, also. It is time for us to make our strength and numbers felt.

"First they ignore you; then they ridicule you; then they attack you; then WE WIN!"

If you have this info -- I know it EXISTS, and there are books written about it! -- and you can condense or digest it into some form that a LAY PERSON who is not a chemist or a biologist can understand, then

I have STILL not had the time to do the requisite accurate research! Far too busy on & off of Care2!

I know that the Marijuana Magazine "High Times", for example, has such articles. But I haven't seen a copy of that mag for months!

What I am looking for, as best as I can express it, is,

I think this would be good info for all of us to have.

It is no doubt lengthy, and can be added to: so, therefore, starting a NEW THREAD FOR IT seems the thing to do!

There is a difference between Male and Female plants, right? A BIG difference, more than other plants, right? {I am so ignorant!}

When the U.S. Congress voted to ban "marijuana" in 1938, many of the Congresspersons DID NOT KNOW THAT THEY WERE BANNING THE HEMP PLANT USEFUL TO THEIR LOCAL FARMERS. "Marijuana" was a slang Mexican term, designed to make Cannabis/Hemp sound strange, foreign, "dirty" and "un-American"; and confuse the issue.

That confusion to some extent persists. PLEASE ENLIGHTEN US! With scientific FACTS!!!

[This thread will remain for "Introductions"; and if by chance there is anything else along the lines of "Research", it will be moved to a new thread.]

thanks for the invitation B Mutiny February 05, 2008 8:28 PM

Did you ever get an answer to the question you posted in 07 re the differences genetic or otherwise? If not are you interested in the medicinal chemistry components, just the pharmacology/pharmacognosy or biopharmaceutics or other such as the genome of cannabis as far as its mapped. Books have been written on all as I am sure you're more than aware of. Anyway let me know if I can be of help.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Well, Rod, don't smoke Industrial Hemp which doesn't have much THC or you'll get a HUGE HEADACHE!

As I stated on another thread, I am looking for someone to EXPLAIN THE GENETICS OF THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF CANNABIS. Not just off the top of one's head! UNLIKE THE GOVERNMENT, WE WANT TO BE SCIENTIFIC AND ACCURATE. If nobody comes forward I will have to do it myself, but I'm hoping someone will be knowledgeable or do the research because my time is so limited! or I would have done it by now! Probably "High Times" magazine or "The Pot Growers' Bible" has this info in a handy form!

Anyway, WELCOME ALL NEW MEMBERS and feel FREE TO INVITE OTHERS OF YOUR FRIENDS. We want to make legalization of Cannabis for all purposes A BIG ISSUE ON CARE2. I feel the time is definitely right and PUBLIC OPINION IS STARTING TO SWING OUR WAY.

The "Drug Wars" ARE A MAIN COMPONENT OF OUR CREEPING FASCISM; the govt STARTED by seeing if they could get away with TAKING AWAY THE CIVIL LIBERTIES of those nasty, dirty, untidy hippies and drug "addicts". Yup, jail 'em, beat 'em up, nobody cares about 'em. Lock 'em up and throw away the key.

"First, they came for the Jews........" DRUG USERS AND THEIR FRIENDS, WERE THE NEW "JEWS".

Hi everyone! Well, I have much to say about this important topic sense I grew up in the 50s-60s like B Mutiny and been an activist almost as long as she has. I stapled signs and charged bullhorns in 1966 fighting for womens equality, and have been active ever sense. I'm happy to be here and hope that I can add to this group. Do you mind if I smoke?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I'm Michelle, 33, married for 9 years this summer, attending community college (for library science) part time, bartending the rest of the time, a liberal in politics and Christianity, no kids, living in Minneapolis while my (brilliant) husband gets his Ph.D. in political science.

I'm obviously having a stream of consciousness writing moment here.  I don't usually do that, but it just spilled out for some reason.   I'm sure that I know some of you, and look forward to meeting others.

Hi Y'all February 09, 2006 10:16 AM

I'm doris, from Fairbanks, Alaska where we've been in and out of the courts and legislature over the marijuana issue for as long as I've been here, which is 1980. I'm the mom of four grown sons (My 215 lb. baby with the size 14 shoe will be 18 in May.), and the mom-in-law of two wonderful daughters, one of whom is the mother of my first and only grandchild, (who happens to be the delight of the Universe! lol) I'm 51 and was an at-home mom for years, active in the home-birth rights and right-to-choose/anti-pharmaceutical immunization politicical circle while doing that. I'm now a professional photographer, potter, elementary-school art teacher to 45 kids three hours a day, four days a week (JOY!), part-time assistant to the director at our school district art program, and half-time university student in my junior year of pursuing an art degree (more JOY!). As a student, I was eligible to use my skills as a radio broadcaster at our college station and in 2004 had a show called, 'The Aggressive Progressive' in which I tried to get my community to "Get off the couch and take back your country!" The second Kerry conceded, I knew the corporatocracy had delivered the final blow to whatever democracy may have been left in America, and went into deep depression for about nine months. I've decided since that fateful day to move to Canada so I can grow (or help grow), and play with Hemp-The Wonder Plant! because it's legal to do that there. Hemp - The Wonder Plant! has always been an increcibly viable option for saving the planet, but the corportocracy has the US Government by the proverbial testicles so completely and are now bound and gagged by special interests buying laws against it, like the fossil fuel industry, the timber industry, the pesticide industry (Hello! Cotton uses 50% of the worlds pesticides!), the textile industry, the medical industry and the food industry, that I've lost all hope for little people in this 'Homeland' of GW's. (Jeez, he even chose the same word as Hitler!) Because of that, and the huge mountain of other reasons, the invasion of an innocent country for their oil being the top one, my plan now is to put my potter's studio and electronic darkroom in a school bus after my last boy graduates from high school and head out of this country before I become an enemy of the state because I'm into peace, love, good-vlibes and power to the people, including Hemp - The Wonder Plant! grower type people. We face multiple decades in prison in Americka for growing Hemp - The Wonder Plant! I can't spend the rest of my life beating my head against the corporate wall. I appreciate sites like this one so much! This one and the frugal life site are the only ones I track every day, so even if my busy lifestyle keeps me from posting, know that I'm constantly rooting you guys on from way up here in the North! BYW, our legislature just passed a law making possession of more than four ounces of marijuana a felony. It was linked with a methamphetamine bill. They're still using ignorance and punitive methods to combat the mental illness of drug addiction. Putting meth users in prison with no rehab, (our governor pulled that last year) does little to help the problem, in fact, perpetuates it. ANYWAY! It's really great to meet and be inspired by all of you, and thanks again for the greatly needed, awesome site Natalie! doris  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

hello November 05, 2005 5:31 PM

Hello all,

My name is Jessika, I am 24 years old living in Charlotte,NC. I am getting ready to head to Amsterdam for the annual Cannabis Cup.  I contribute to NORML and I am always up for supporting any Hemp/Marijuana causes. I began doing so after I was diagnosed with cancer and my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. We were both givin the option to for treatment to smoke medicinal.  We choose to smoke marijuana for medicinal purposes/my mother still does so for her MS and I am in remission but choose to smoke for personal reasons.

Hope all is well

Hello Hopeful Hempsters! October 27, 2005 3:52 PM

Natalie, thanks for starting this group! I hadn't seen much activity and since I had been invited to Acoustic Coffee House, I did the hemp soap box thing over there for a while..At least, I can't get kicked off for being annoyingly one tracked minded!!!

I have emails to to HIA, (which is great..wonder how much they cost) about volunteering. I've also met a gentleman who is involved in medical marijuana issues who said he is willing to help me kick off a local grassroots group.

I know HIA and Hemp Farmers met w/ Congress last month, but I don't know what the outcome was.

I would like to distribute flyers, perhaps even to this site, to people I meet at anti war rallies...if we're going for change, might be a good time to go for the gusto! Fuel seems to have gotten us into alot of trouble lately! And I don't think I can imagine a Hemp Baron being Dastardly!

Barbara and Natalie, and the rest of you, I would love to hear about your activism experiences...

Blessings! Sharon

I have a 39-year-old daughter and live by myself, work part-time and consider myself a cyber-activist! Also an activist in the "real" world, since my teens. Never have worked much, always poor. Too busy to work!

Glad this worthy group is becoming more active!
