I think this is an awesome topic and I am glad you started it. Where do I start? OK, with the original questions... 1. Tom 2. 40 years old (please say I look younger.. 3. Just outside of Heidelberg, Germany 4. Don't have pets, but have plants and bass guitars that have names... 5. My favorite things are music, friends, more music and "quality friends" 6. My cause is my journey through this life. I want to learn as much as possible, I want to help as much as possible. I wish to be enlightened, as well as to be used to enlighten 7. My favorite subject is school "was" lunch... 8. My favorite food is Thai food, and almost everything my wife cooks for me 9. Favorite color is blue if I had to pick one. I actually enjoy lots of colors... I am very concerned about what our youth thinks about the world we have created for them. I posted this question in another youth oriented group and it did not bare fruit there. I grew up and was told to never question authority, but I had a ton of questions I needed answered. I wish earlier someone would have pulled me to the side and let me know that it is OK for kids to have a voice too...  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

My Intro October 30, 2004 9:58 AM

*First name or nickname/screen name: You can call me Jeny! *age (if you want): 28 *state or city you live in: Olympia Wa, USA *pets names and types: A cat named Mouse >^;^< *favorite things: my daughters, our cat and other animals, the seasons, learning new things! *causes you're interested in: I'm interested first and for most in learning, knowledge is power! With that in mind I have learned about many things that I am interested in, recycling, conservation, animal protection, clean water. Speaking up for those who have no voice and making this world a better place for us who are here now and those who will come to inherit it! *favorite subjects in school: My "Master Student" class and my Writing class *favorite food: anything with garlic! *fav. color: green and purple and rainbow stuff *favorite quote/saying: "I am a little acorn plain to see but once the mighty oak was a nut like me!" This speaks to me about infinite potential and greatness in smallness! One of my biggest concerns is the way that many people are frustrated and complain about things but never take the initiative to do anything about it! p.s. Thanks for posting an intro Tom, it's great to know you better! I so relate to the last part of your post about how you never knew that kids can have a voice (choice!) too!  [ send green star]

Introduction October 30, 2004 10:25 PM

Good idea, Jeny! I am "Stidmama" in many online communities, so that works. Close to 40, live near Olympia WA, one critter - a small mutt named Buffy, favorite things: my kids, my garden, my spouse. I don't join a lot of "causes" but am interested in sustainable living, peace-making, and education. When I was in school I enjoyed history, science and art; today I enjoy history, art and science... Food? Allergies abound; most animal products and most store-bought things are off-limits! I appreciate good Asian fare, and love fresh-off-the-tree fruit. Favorite color varies according to my mood and its use: to wear, usually green or brown; to decorate with, orange, red or yellow; to look at, anything bright or shiny. "It's not what you have, it's what you do with it."  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

On the Spiritual groups I go by either Greystar or Blackstar but on the Peace groups, Ross. I am 53 but act much younger. I currently reside in Grand Prairie, Texas. We cureently have three Black Labs named Threepaws, Sheppie, and Tippy. (Threepaws was named such because she has three white paws and one black paw) Our collection also includes eight cats, Fuzzy, Saddle, Toes, Meatloaf, Scaredee, and three unamed kittens. I currently host/co-host six care2 groups and two non-care2 groups. Four of the groups are peace related, two of the groups are shamanic, one group for writers, and one group for dreams. I am currently working on developing some educational programs for teaching peace and tolerence within school systems and promoting peace and healing worlwide. I have applied for several grants and will be applying for more in the coming months within this area. Action begins with our taking the first step! We can no longer wait for others to take the first step for us. My one daughter is married and living in Austria. Walk in peace, love, and beauty Ross  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

introduction January 21, 2005 2:17 PM

Hello ! I am quite new on care2, I discovered the site by searching for good e-cards a couple of weeks ago. ) But it was just all what I needed (I tell you know why in another post). If I had to introduce myself, I would say *My name is Jean-Michel, I am soon 31 years old, living in Paris, France. My parents had a cat called Mickey (indeed, my parents does not speak English ), but it ran away last summer. I was interested in many things, such as economics, politics, sciences, nature, art cinema, chess, sports, but I feel getting older and I now feel that I need to focus on important matters like God and how to help people as my small level... Now I am interesting myself at things happening in Ukraine, where a pacific and democratic revolution took place at the end of last year. I have some friends there and I am thinking at a way to join them and to help there for a while... In school, I loved learning foreign languages, philosophy and economics. My favorite foods are all kinds of cheese, provided they stink a lot, dark chocolate, good wines, salt crepes, gastronomy in general... Favorite color: navy blue The truth will make you free. Comment: truth is such a great thing, it is a shield which protects you and it can be a powerful sword to hit the wicked. Now, I write another post, about the reason why I came to you now. But it does not belong to an introduction. Anyway, I have some of your posts and I would like to tell you that you are very sympathetic. I will recall such things like "greatness in smallness" ) Jean-Michel  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

My first name is Tiffany. I just turned 27 today! I was born and raised in Sunny South Florida. I have 2 cats. Kaspurr, my charming and majestic white and black cat, who is going on his 11th year. Abby, my beautiful and devoted Tabby cat, he is 8 years old. My favorite things would have to be, of course, my family! My son (6 months old), my husband, my kitty cats. I love to listen and make music. I love to sing. Bike riding in the park. Swimming, walking and sunbathing at the beach!!! I'm interested in causes that involve children and animals. I would also like to get involoved in stopping violence toward women and children. Having grown up in a violate home I can relate. Hmm... Well, when I was in school my fave subjects were music, art, and computer classes. My fave foods....anything with alot of CARBS...of course! I love to wear pink but I like to decorate my house in greens, browns, and natural colors and woods. My fave saying is.... ¤••••••People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within••••••¤ •••••Elizabeth Kübler-Ross••••• Hmmm... what's left to say? I work partime at an elematary school as an Afterschool Counselor. 3rd grade. Never knew how sneaky little kids were until I started working there. I'm learning so much about children. Until my son was born I never had much interest in kids. I wish now that I had gone to school to teach. Children are so unique and special. Well, that's my intro! I probably could go on forever but I'm sure you got things to do! :o) Lots a love, Tiffany  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Welcome, new members! April 28, 2005 2:07 PM

There sure has been a flurry of activity this week! Welcome to all! Our host is pretty much offline at the moment, so I extend her greetings as well. She will be tickled pink to meet you all -- I am pleased we have such a wide variety of ages and experiences here. My own children (ages 12 and 10) and I read through the posts occasionally, and enjoy all the great ideas folks have. So, welcome again! Peace, Stidmama  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hello my name is David Boulton. I am 53 years old, single and belong to my 13 year old daughter, Deanna. I live just outside Louisville in Kentucky.

More than anything else within the scope of human influence the future of our families, communities, cultures, economies, and nations depend on our children's learning.  The most precious resource on earth is our children's learning.

What aspects of our children's physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social or academic development isn't profoundly shaped by learning?  Except for that ~

How well children grow through the traumas, challenges and disadvantages they experience depends on on how well they learn. How well they rise to the opportunities and advantages they experience depends on how well they learn. From their emotional health and maturity to their mental health and wisdom, their innermost growth and outermost development depends on how well, how healthily, they learn.

I describe myself as a 'learning ecologist and activist'. By that I mean my primary 'lens' is learning. Not, learning as a utility for acquiring knowledge and skills, rather, learning as the central dynamic of being human - learning as the process of participatively differentiating and extending into who we are becoming (from birth to death).  Further, I think the health of our learning regulates virtually all other dimensions of our development, health and well being.

Just as the efficiency of a lever depends on where the fulcrum is located, so to, I believe, does the efficiency of activism. I have come to think that 'stewarding the health of learning' is the most minimally presumptuous, maximally relevant, fulcrum for locating efforts intended to address the generational transmission of ignorance and negligence that plague our species.

I am here to learn how to dialogue with this community about learning and the role it plays in kids making a difference.

Writing on behalf of myself and my son.  This looks like an interesting group and happy to join.  When I saw the logo of the group 'kids can make a difference!' I knew it was for me and was also happy to see the children posting also which my son would love to meet kids from other parts of the world so I like that we can both be a part in this group, not just myself.  I totally believe that kids can make a difference if given the chance and I think this is group is inspiring.

Hi! December 10, 2008 2:09 PM

I'm Taylor, and I'm 14 years old.  I live in Gillette, Wyoming on a ranch with two horses, two dogs, and a kitten.  My horses names are Doc and Sauly, my dogs are Jake and Sage, and my kitten is Rylee.  I have two nieces and two nephews--Sadi, Aspen, Coyle, and Grady.  They are the main reason I joined this group because I honestly don't know what I would do without any of them.  My favorite food is ice cream, favorite color teal, and favorite movie Armageddon.  I want to pursue a career in marine mammal training, specifically with killer whales.  I love training animals, as I have trained both of my dogs by myself, and I barrel race with my horse Sauly.  I LOVE to swim, and I love the ocean.

Abortion is a huge issue to me because I believe that everyone has a right to life, whether they are the outcome of rape, they have mental or physical disabilities, or they won't live a very long life.  I believe that everyone conceived has a purpose to serve, and my nieces and nephews certainly do.  None of their parents are with eachother, and because of that, they could have easily been aborted.  I am so happy they weren't, but so many babies are.  I'm here to try and give them a voice that they don't have.

Hi Jenny,

Am Noah(real name),from KENYA,Aged 35,and with a 7 year old Son Joshua, married to 1 wife Joan aged 30 and we are serving in the kingdom of God,under the ministry;www.lighthouseinternationalministries-kenya.com

I id join this group for one reason of seeing that we are all united to help  Children grow up as good citizens of the world, well supported to forego their dreams no matter the situation(s) they face ,free of crime and well nurtured spiritually. For instance,I don't know even if it is right to put this on this group or not,but under the leading of the Holy Spirit of the LORD,I know and am sure that God will lesad others to view this.

Iam interested to link or just CONNECT WITH FRIENDS WHO WOULD WISH TO UNITE WITH ME ,SO AS TOGETHER TO SUPPORT A DESIRE OF HELPING THE VERY HELPLESS AND DESTITUTE ORPHANED CHILDREN IN KENYA-AFRICA.We have been working on the Kenya Orphan Rescue Project(KOREP) website with a dear American Brother and Freind  and who is a web designer,Brother Steve Orth,(steve@gonesurfing.ws )and we may be through with the web by the end of this month, for which all Friends will be able to read it.My activities, and who Iam, however can be fully read on www.lighthouseinternationalministries-kenya.com

Am in need of Freinds who would help me to start Fundraising or link me to possible Fundraising sites/ORGANISATIONS/Clubs/Trusts etc for this project activities in Kenya, and together that we may change and give hope to the lives of so many Orphaned Children in Africa.I will be visting Clarksville,TN and North Carolina in September and upto October 2009,and it would be better that we can chat on Phone when am there in this places if you happen to be in USA.Kindly call or write me,if God is leading you to join us in this project. Also pray that God helps me get the Money needed as Fee charges, for my VISA in JUNE.In Reference, please read Mark 9/41; ''Jesus said,if anyone gives you a cup of water because you belong to the messaiah,I assure you, that person will be rewarded!''

Bye and Shalom.

Brother Noah-Kenya(Africa)
